What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
So are the "wherehouse.com" cash prices the ones fye uses? Sadly, FYE doesn't take used games near me anymore as they're closing down. Is it worth selling these games to wherehouse.com? How stingy are they regarding quality and games traded in ? Thanks!
i've never traded into wherehuse.com, but from what people posted earlier the games should be in near mint condition. If they think its too damaged they wont give you your cash or return the game, so you're pretty much SOL if you dont trade in a game in great condition.
Looks like no price drops this week. Also no rental conversions so hopefully we'll have a big one next week.
thanks as always! looking forward to next week & wondering if I should hit up BBV for one last gc buy today?

Sorry if this has been posted, but I have a few questions regarding FYE trade-ins.

Is there a limit to the number of games you can trade in for cash?

Do they require a case and manual?

I am only asking this because it is a 50 minute drive to the closest FYE that does trade-ins, however I can get a boat load of titles with good trade-in values.

Thanks for any help. And yes I have been reading the thread, but haven't remember seeing if there was a limit.

This reminds me of the good ol' days about five years back where you could take in Room Zoom for the Xbox and other crappy titles and get $26 in TIV. If anyone has any success stories, this could be good.

FYE's gonna require the games to be as mint as possible and complete. You can also check values at SecondSpin, I believe.

yes they will ban with the quickness! Anyone that remembers Big Lots can confirm. It only took 2 of the same title to do it for me once they caught on that people were taking advantage

I traded in somewhere around 10-15 copies of Powerdrome Racing for the PS2 to FYE about 3 or so years ago for $15 a copy in store credit after getting them from Gamestop for $1-3 a copy and I got a PStwo slim outta the deal.

As long as you don't trade in two copies of the same title in the same day to the same store you should be ok. Unfortunately with so many FYE stores no longer taking game trades it's gonna be quite the challenge to even find 2-3 in the same area to exploit the values at.

I miss the days when all of my closest FYE stores took game trades and I could hit up all three within an hour or so, then start the cycle again with the afternoon workers.;)

So, do I just go into the store and bring up any two games for the b1g1? LolJK just f'n with you ^^

Thanks for the updates HawaiiBoy, you're too awesome.

You never ran into an employee who caught onto your shenanigans? Just kidding.
You never ran into an employee who caught onto your shenanigans? Just kidding.
No. But then again I was going way far outta town for work at the time and hitting up FYE stores up in NY state and down by my state's capital, so I spread them out far and wide.;)
yeah, it was one of my favorites back in the day.
That's what I thought, I hope the second one is just as good if not better. :)

I just came back from BlockBuster they were bone dry on the good games

I got AvP, and NIER my friend got Bioshock 2, and Bad Company 2 for the Xbox 360, it had all the manuels and cases the games are in great shape. (no code for Bad Company 2)

we both paid $16

I didn't know about this deal until I accidentally dropped by Blockbuster today.
Got myself God of War 3 and Bioshock 2 for $15, with original box and manual in pretty good shape. I assume it's a good deal?

do we know if any games drop in price tomorrow?

Today I bought SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo 3 (PSP) + Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation (360) for $10.83

There's an answer for you no more than 15 posts above yours, why not READ the thread to see if you can find it? Here's a hint for you, look for posts from Hawaiiboy.;)

Nah, you should've came back home and asked us before you bought it. Too bad they don't take returns! Oh well, you'll learn.

Mine said I have 30 days to do a return.

Also it was a good deal so long as the person was going to play them. It's not like you can find GoWIII cheaper

Sometimes I wonder if people know what sarcasm is.
Shame every Blockbuster within 100 miles of me has gone out of business.
Ditto. We have one mom & pop Blockbuster franchise store in Venice, FL that's sticking it out. They don't have this B1G1 sale going on and never any prepack games. I did pick up Tiger Woods '10 for $9.99 2 weeks ago, that was good.

Maybe I skipped over it but all I found was there may be a drop Jan 3rd but it didnt even mention what. (so while i guess that makes the answer no it doesn't really help with listing games that will drop friday)
Geez, thanks, I guess.
You're quite welcome.:D:booty: It's just that it's been answered a ton of times and just like people constantly asking about which games are $14.99 and under and qualify for the sale(hint: theres a BIG list in the OP under a spoiler tag that you can't miss) it grates on the nerves that someone would just ask the same redundant question instead of looking for the answer first for a bit.

Quick. Someone toss Hawaiiboy a crystal ball so he can get all of the impatient people the list that might drop for next week. Seriously, patience is a virtue and if you wanna know what's dropped, dropping or may drop then keep up with the thread.

And yes, that means READING IT, not going 'duhhhh what dropped, I'm too fuckin' lazy to look for it myself so I'll ask for the umpteenth time'.:booty:

At some point, Hawaiiboy should really just use a cypher for this entire thread. It would be entertaining to see slackers try to figure everything out.

It's too bad I didn't look in to FYE a little more. I could have cleaned up while I was in the states this X-mas. If I brought my sisters and wife with me and had them do trade-ins as well.

I called this morning and they weren't taking trade-ins until the new year. I probably saw about 25 copies of GOW3, 15 copies of Battlefield 2, 15 copies of UFC 2010, 10 copies of DTR, 25 copies of Bioshock 2 through 4 BBV in my area. And that is what I didn't buy.

I could have made a small fortune. Oh well, maybe next year. ;)

I did however buy some games for myself and to do some trade 3 for a pre-order deals...

Bayonetta PS3
White Knight Chronicles PS3
Prototype PS3
GOW 3 (X3) - trade bait
Dante's Inferno Divine Edition PS3 - trade bait
Battlefield Bad Company 2 XBOX (X7) - trade bait
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Ultimate All Stars WII - trade bait
UFC 2010 XBOX - trade bait

I didn't find a lot of the titles that I was looking for to keep, but made out well enough. The 5 for 25 gift cards came in handy as well. I should have hit up a few stores in NY (Buffalo) on my way home... oh well!

Big thanks to everyone for this great info...
Sometimes I wonder if people know what sarcasm is.
Sometimes I wonder if other people can hear tone over the internet. With the amount of people complaining about how so many things aren't "deals" (such as over in the gamefly thread) its hard impossible to tell if someone is trolling or being sarcastic. Thats even besides the fact that some of Blockbusters' sales DONT allow returns.
And yes, that means READING IT, not going 'duhhhh what dropped, I'm too fuckin' lazy to look for it myself so I'll ask for the umpteenth time'.:booty:
I have been keeping up with the thread from what I can tell, but when you state that the answer to what drops is listed a few post earlier it implies there was something that dropped making people second guess themselves (especially when theres over 97 pages in this thread).

It'd also make more sense to answer "no", or "nothing", rather than giving a more round-a-bout response.

Went to another town today to hit up a few store. I stopped by blockbuster and was only interested in Bad Company 2. I decided to pick up Dead to Rights Retribution and will be trading that in to Amazon for 10.75 since I didn't really want it but I'm not going to reject a free game.

The post where Hawaiiboy said it looked like there were no drops this week was 20 or so posts above yours. How hard is it to keep an eye out for posts by him and just quickly read those?

Apparently VERY hard since a shitton of you still see nothing wrong with cluttering up a thread with 'duhhh did anything drop' and 'what games qualify for the sale'(see: title of thread and OP).

As for just answering no and being helpful by allowing you people to be even lazier than usual, I'd rather be obstinant and go the roundabout route.:booty: It's much more fun too.;)

Hmm I feel like cluttering the thread to make the lazies work harder. Maybe they're illiterate. It's probably a waste of my time even replying, but to those that aren't so lazy here's a tip Ctrl + F. Search for Hwaititboy (wrong spelling to make you work a bit =).....

Oh and here's a list of drops:

Uncharted 2
Modern Warfare 2
Bioshock 3
Mario Galaxy 2
......

j/k =)

You forgot COD Black Ops down to $4.99 each, I picked up 73 of those tonight.

Well I did another run, mostly to buy giftcardfs for next time and to get out of the house, but I did find some good stuff late in this sale. One store had Resistance 2, Ratchet Clank CIT, dante's inferno divine ed, Lost Planet 2, Crackdown 2, and UFC 2010, all complete except for ufc and dante (no manuals).
Store number 2 was pretty bare, but when the guy was looking for the Dead to Rights and Kane and Lynch 2 I found, I thought I saw a Toy Story Mania wii in the stack he was thumbing though. I asked to look through the stack and found the Toy Story Mania wii, 2 - Mario and sonic Winter Olympics, ps3 Singularity, and Harry Potter half Blood Prince DS. All disc only but in really good condition for some reason. I think I will go to a bunch more store tomorrow and ask if I can look through those stacks behind the counter. This might be a good strategy for finding stuff this late if you are OK with disc only games. The second store even let me apply the 2 free $5 gift card I got for buying 2- $25 cards on the same transaction the free cards came from. Score!

you are the cheapest gamer! My spot (Not FYE, but they have an acronym for a name and actually have more stores in NYC than FYE)lets me trade in up to 4 at a time of any game. I work around it by walking around for awhile and coming back to a different employee while not trying to make too much eye contact with the original one as they are supposed to start giving me less after i trade in 4 at each store but most employees NEVER check that

Dang it.... I missed that one... Have to make a run to all the blockbusters in the area!!!!! Someone posted that price error about 10 pages back!!!!

Can anyone get me a Crackdown 2? I'm able to get God of War 3, SC: Conviction, and Bad Company 2 pretty easily and would be willing to trade.

It doesn't really get to me like it does to some people, but man, it was just a handful of posts above your question. It is not the end of the world, but people come in here and ask the same questions, over and over, when the information is readily available. You're not the first, you won't be the last. In these huge threads, it just stands out more to those that follow it because it happens over and over.

I made a small fortune earlier this week doing that. Traded in a bunch of God of War 3 for $21 each, a ton of Kane & Lynch 2 for $26 each, a bunch of BF BAd Company 2 for $15 each, and some UFC Undisputed 2010 for $21 each.

All of that easy money made buying myself a carbon fiber hardtop for Christmas that much more rewarding.

I still think it's awesome that thanks to this sale, I gave 3-6 games as presents to each gamer in my family. My older cousin was really happy because he's obsessed with Bioshock and has been really waiting for the sequel. He works too much running his own company so he doesn't really have time to go out and buy the latest games... :\

I gotta keep milking this sale before it ends! Hopefully SecondSpin keeps doing trade-ins.

Hey, would anyone be interesting in setting up a trade thread for all of these Blockbuster used games? I mean, not all are in the greatest condition to be traded in or whatever, and we could exchange them with one another... If it sounds like something you guys would be interested in, I can set up the thread in a few hours when I get back

While I totally agree with the constant questioning which games dropped within 20 posts of HB's post... there are some drops that occur that his store does not have in stock. It's a shame they don't send the entire list. Though, it seems like they never drop prices of games on the christmas holiday weekends.

.... it takes longer to play it than it does to buy them :bomb:

Do you mind telling me what store(s) in NYC besides FYE and Gamestop take trade-in's that are equivalent to price of secondspin/fye? You can PM me if you don't want to just say outright. Hope it's ok.

Do you send in the games to SS or do you go to fye based on ss prices?

Also to the mass, what do you consider "mint" condition for these trade-in's? I have the case, the cover art, the manual, the game disc with very minor scratches.

Lastly, kudos to the person who said put it up near a heat source let it warm up for a few seconds to make it easier to peel off the sticker.

hopefully, arkham asylum ps3 or prince of persia forgotten sands ps3 aren't the blockbuster price drops on jan. 3 or i'll be pisssed! (b/c they're super cheap at best buy / amazon)
still hoping for assassin's creed 2 ps3, god of war collection ps3, uncharted 2 ps3. hell, i'd be happy if i could find uncharted 1 anywhere. couldn't even find nier or singularity and i was at every blockbuster 0-day!

Mint condition means NO scratches typically, even though SecondSpin's own policy for trades says a 'few light scratches are fine', though that policy is contradicted elsewhere on the site.

Even if everything else was in perfect shape before(case/artwork/manual) I have had games rejected for one tiny scratch at FYE that the employee only saw because they nitpicked the condition of the disc for 5 minutes tipping it back and forth until the light hit it just right.

Not sure if your local FYE's are picky like that, but if they are then you're better off getting copies of some of the better valued games at Gamestop NEW and trading them in for profit there as opposed to taking a chance on BBV's stuff.

If you haven't played Tomb Raider Underworld or Mercenaries 2, I would suggest the ESA Game Pack for a cheap copy of Uncharted. It comes out to about $10 a game for the 3 game pack($29.99). Best Buy, WalMart and Gamestop have it in stock.

You missed out on the $6 clearance price at Toys R' Us that they had just before Black Friday. I hooked up about 7-8 CAG's with copies from there. But they've jacked the price back up to either $19.99 or $29.99 now.

i have underworld from bbv and i'm not interested in merc 2 so that's a no-go for me. thanks for the suggestion though. i actually even tried two toys r' us locations when posts about it were making the rounds but they were out of stock. anyway, no biggie. should've got it when it was $14.99 on amazon during the black friday sale but what's done is done. i'm sure i'll see it on sale again.

If you buy it during the current Gamestop B2G1 with two other $19.99 used games it'll come out to $13 for each game. Not a phenomenal deal, but it's about the best one you'll get right now unless GoHastings has it in stock and has another 60% off sale.;)

EDIT: It's $13.61 at GoHastings currently, but out of stock.
