What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Same argument I was given a long time ago by BBV. The trade in program is meant to help consumers recycle their games and is provided as a service, a benefit if you will. It's just a BS cop out due to the fact they realized too late that the trade in prices on a number of games was too high, so they use the NON commercial clause to reject the trade. Whats really annoying is you need to send 5 items to them to qualify for a shipping reimbursement, which was why I lumped them all together.
Yeah real cop out. This does serious harm to a business. Now is it there fault that they don't have their shit together? Of course, but if they figure it out you can't blame them for rejecting what is going on.

Secondspin is owned by Transworld which also owns FYE. Had an fye employee make me check secondspin.com for the tiv of the games i wanted to sell.

Not trying to be the fun police but can we keep on topic please? I keep checking this thread expecting something about bbv. Lol

Well looks like the B1G1 was the last one for my main Blockbuster store. One of the 6 remaining Blockbusters around me, also the last one I thought would be left, is closing now. Just found out today when I went in to check out some movie prices. They stop renting on the 13th and close a month later. This one has been located in a busy shopping center in my area for over 15 years and is the first one I remember opening around here. Sad day for me today considering I've been going to it since it opened.

Next month I'll be down to 5 stores from over 13 two years ago, and that's only if none of the others are closing their doors. Hopefully I'll get to see at least one more B1G1 before the inevitable end. Anyone else's stores announce closings yet?

Not that I know of. I think my area already closed a few, so the two that are right in town are safe... for now.

The other ones I know about are up in the city and I don't frequent as much as the local ones. Sad that it's come to this, but oversaturation will do that to you.

I'm down to two within 45 miles. Traveled to one about 25 miles away for the B1G1 just to find out the store had closed last summer.

One of my local BBV is shutting down because the property owner didnt want to renew their lease. It goes down o the 15th of this month and was wondering if i can expect prices to go up then give the liquidation pricing(wonder if there is a tier to that) or if there will be anything to get, that is if some company steps in and buys up all the good games. Just trying to get some CAG Info!
The other ones I know about are up in the city and I don't frequent as much as the local ones. Sad that it's come to this, but oversaturation will do that to you.
They may have been oversaturated 4-5 years ago, but certainly no more. I remember back then one particular highway with not a lot of population along it had 3 within 10 miles of each other. I know that's nothing compared to some more urban areas, but it was a bonanza for me when I could cruise up along to all 3, trade games at each one, and look for new clearance games (this was before the B1G1 sales but back when they had a lot of new games that were on unmarked clearance).

But since then 2 of those 3 have closed and probably half the stores in the entire area have closed. They are very distantly spaced now such that there is actually untapped market out there - ie, there are plenty of people who don't go to BBV because they aren't convenient. This is especially true after all the Hollywood Video stores closed as they had about as many locations as Blockbuster and those all went away at once last year. That should have increased BBVs business a ton - I wonder if there has been any uptick on customers because of that?

Well, in any case, I've helped them all I could with some big cash infusions of my own during the last 2 B1G1 sales ;).

I still got one near my house, but the two closest ones closed down. Luckily, I've been able to hit a lot of BBVs next to the university, and I've been going out further with each successive B1G1. There are probably 15-20 stores I can hit within half an hour from where I live.
Not trying to be the fun police but can we keep on topic please? I keep checking this thread expecting something about bbv. Lol
I SECOND THIS!!!!!!!! :bouncy::bouncy:

I keep seeing this bumping and think "oh maybe there's a good price drop!" or "oh, maybe there's another sale of some kind!". Annnnd....just more crap trade in talk. Somebody needs to make a FYE/Secondspin topic and keep the talk for those in there.

Apparently one of my local BBV's closed up at the end of December, and I missed it. This store was just a little bit out of the way for me, but I usually hit it up once or twice during a B1G1 sale. For some reason, I don't think I ever got over to that location during the last sale. I drove by there the other day, while headed to a different store in the same shopping center, and the place is completely gone now. So, I guess I missed out on the liquidation sale. One other store near me closed last summer, and while the liquidation prices for games sucked, during the last two days they were open, the used movies were all 99 cents, including the new releases. I walked about with a small stack of them. It would have been nice to get in on that again. Oh, well. No other stores around here (Metro Detroit) are closing that I know of.
Your cycle will end pretty quickly if you buy at 30 and sell for 22.
He's a GS employee, what did you expect?;) Unless they're saying 'would you like to pre-order X, Y and Z games' that void between their ears is like a concert hall.:D

Buy low, sell high for more than you paid or don't even try.:booty:
My nearby store in Swampscott Mass is closing now too. Kinda sad, I've had great luck there at b1g1 deals. Goodbye Blockbuster.
You still have Salem, Beverly, Haverhill and N. Andover.
You still have Salem, Beverly, Haverhill and N. Andover.
The Salem store closed a year ago, the Lynn store is the next closest.
A couple price updates I noticed the other day.

:ps3::360:Bioshock 2-$9.99
:ps3:Borderlands
I heard Minerva's Den might go on sale soon, if so I may have to pick up BS 2 again for $10! Unfortunately last time I was there it was cleared out, unless there was a display someplace that I was missing there was only about 5 XBox games.

Still hoping for a Just Cause price drop! It wasn't complete but I'd take it for a decent price...they had another SSFIV on sale there again for 9.99 too (no case).

Waiting for a price drop on Uncharted 2. If it hit's 14.99, I'll bite. Please keep let us know if it happens, hawaiiboy. Thanks for all your hard work :D

I picked up Singularity for the PS3 for $14.99 in Dundalk Md. Enjoying the game so far, a nice shooting gallery. It was a surprise, I've been waiting for a good price on this one.
A couple price updates I noticed the other day.

:ps3::360:Bioshock 2-$9.99
:ps3:Borderlands
What price did you see borderlands for, IATCG? I've been looking for a :ps3: price drop.

#-o Sorry about that. I thought I listed the price for the PS3 version of Borderlands. It's $9.99 and apparently it's $9.99 for both PS3 and 360 versions as KevinMassacre reported getting the 360 version for $9.99 today.
I heard Minerva's Den might go on sale soon, if so I may have to pick up BS 2 again for $10! Unfortunately last time I was there it was cleared out, unless there was a display someplace that I was missing there was only about 5 XBox games.
If you (or anyone else) wants a Bioshock 2 for 360 I ended up having an extra from the last sale. So $7.50 + shipping which would probably come out to just a bit more than the current $9.99 pricing at BBV.

Awesome, thank you (& KevinM) for reporting it!

So I was browsing through Blockbuster, not even going for games at first, when I decided to browse the used ds game section, skimming over the blank cases when something caught my eye - Mario Party DS for 9.99! Even though it was cart only, I HAD to snatch that sucker up considering how much it's going for on the market right now. I can get a box and instructions for less than $10 after shipping and handling(VideoGameInstructionbooklet lol), so all in all $20 or less spent.

Your store may also possibly have these;

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days - 14.99
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games - 19.99
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of the Sky - 14.99

And the ever infamous kirby SuperStar Ultra for 9.99, though I didn't spot one at my store.

Also;

Halo Reach 39.99
DeadRising 2 44.99
Devil May Cry 4 9.99
Beatles Rock Band 6.99

Do closing stores keep up with the weekly price drops? I know they don't participate in the B1G1 sales but I've never been sure if they still have their systems automatically update prices each week. Thanks!

NO they usually raise them because a third party handles store closing and rapes the casuals that flock in because they see store closing signs.

question: only store within 60 miles is closing, what kind of pricing can i expect on games?? Stop by when I saw the big closing signs but if their movie pricing is any indication, I might at well not count on anything. A used rental copy of Semi-Pro on bluray for only 12.99?!?!?!?! OH MY GOD! no wonder they are closing
Any thoughts on Army of Two 40th day? Worth 9.99?
Most definetly worth $10, improves on alot what the 1st one lacked. Last a decent time for a ten spot.

I enjoyed it a ton, as already stated, it is a huge improvement over the first I felt. Plus if you get two copies the game is a blast co-op.

**The game has splitscreen by the way, I only said two copies because I have all of my stuff set up double in my entertainment area so that I can system link games instead of splitscreen and what not.

Once the liquidators take over control of a store then all prior pricing schedules are gone. They usually jack everything up to MSRP or close and then the discounts start from there.

If you're lucky and maybe know someone well enough who works for them you COULD get them to pull the bullshit that the last one to close by me did, which was hiding drawers full of GOOD shit till the last 2-3 weeks.

Good luck either way, but know that you won't find any deals until the last two weeks to a month.

I don't know how BBV store closings are handled now, but when I went to some a few years ago it didn't seem like they were being run by liquidators. I mean, this isn't HWV/GC where the whole chain is shutting down - it is BBV closing a few stores here and there. They had all the pricing the same as a regular store, just with an additional 20% off. Of course, this was during a B1G1 sale and that was not in effect, which meant you would actually be paying more for many of the games than at a regular store .

And yet, whether it is run by a liquidation company or not, the masses still fall into that "store closing liquidation deals" trap and end up buying stuff at 20% off that they would ignore during a B1G1 free sale.

I remember at my local HWV there was a copy of Lego Star Wars II for the 360 that made it through 2 different $5 used video game sales (where all games $29.99 and under were $4.99) and yet the day the store liquidation started, I saw someone grab it to buy at $14.99 or $19.99 - 20%.

 I still miss HWV more than I'll likely miss BBV if they completely went under.

But that's only cuz the employees who know me as the 'deal guy who knows about sales before they do' always ask me what 'scam' I'm running now.

Ahhh. If they only knew.

Store nearest my vanpool spot is closing. Stopped in last night. DVDs (used) priced 7.99 or less and Blu Rays marked 12.99 or less, plus an extra 10-15% off used DVD/Blu Rays. Free copy of used merchandise up to 9.99 if you sign up for their online service (trial). Their game selection sucked, saw :ps3: FME for 44.99 and all games were 20% off prices marked. This particular store was still staffed by normal BBV employees, not the liquidator. Sad to see this one close as they were really cool employees, and some of the customers were top shelf MILFs/trophy wives.
