What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Dude it totally works just be quick. It takes practice but its Not like you are stealing you are just exchanging the case, you are still paying the same price for the game/movie.

In many states changing the price tags from one item to another is considered illegal. This typically wouldn't matter for the same item, but you yourself have basically admitted that there are differences between the items and lets face it, there is a difference in value to most people.

In a lot of stores the employees honestly won't mind if you ask first and you won't possibly be on camera possibly committing a crime.

It is even simpler than that. If he has to be "quick" and hide what he is doing then it is wrong. Argument over.

So here we go again. different ownership, same lack or poor communication. they have changed the dvd/blu ray sale a little bit for next week. the sale officially starts for everyone on friday 5/20 but they are emailing select customers that the sale starts tuesday 5/17 but you must have the email with the coupon code on it to take advantage of the sale. this is a total change from the email they sent us on monday so stay tuned in case they decide to change it again.

no price changes this week but some huge game and blu ray transfers to get us ready for the upcoming sales. a lot of the blu ray transfers are new release titles that are $16.99 so they dont qualify for either the 3 for $20 or 5 for $20 which is dumb since it will just sit there and not sell.

Dish probably still has the same middle management clowns running things until they start to make their big changes. I bet BBV is operating on cruise control for right now.

I won't be getting the email, so that sucks. I don't expect everything to be gone or anything by Friday, I just had plans to hit them up tomorrow. Oh well...

Hey I know where to buy replacement blu ray cases (the bb ones are awful) but what do you guys do about the cover art? Do you leave it blank or buy the covers somewhere or print them somewhere? I'd like some opinions lol thanks in advance!
Hey I know where to buy replacement blu ray cases (the bb ones are awful) but what do you guys do about the cover art?
99% or so of Blockbuster's used Blu-rays have the original cover art, although most will be slightly discolored from the glue used to bind them to the blue paper backing.

Really? I recall seeing there cases being DVD sized with the cover art being of DVD size as well. I hope I am wrong!

To me, i dont care if certin blockbuster employes think its wrong or not. Blockbuster has been stealing From customers for years with fake late fees ( including myself a few years ago) if its wrong for me to exchange an empty case then screw blockbuster ! They have no right to say Whats ethical and Whats Not after the bs things They have done to customers.

They have a blue DVD-size backing with the regular Blu-ray art attached to the front of it. Some are attached with a rubbery glue that causes discoloration, some are just slipped into the case.

Way off there. By signing a rental agreement when you opened an account, you agreed that they can change their policies at any time, which includes late fee/rental fee increases. Continuing to rent there, with this knowledge, you obviously have no right to complain.

Nowhere in the agreement does Blockbuster acknowledge your right to change price labels. Legally, this is no different than shoplifting, as you are defrauding the company of complete value of the item.

Try to justify it all you want, but if you are caught swapping labels, you can be charged and arrested. I know this for a fact because it happened to my older brother. He was a minor at the time and they didn't press charges, but store security wasted no time escorting him to the office to wait for my dad to pick him up.

I guess I didn't notice I didn't really check it out too well. Thank you very much! :bouncy:

Now to figure out the best place to buy some blank Blu ray cases to take advantage of this sale :)

You think its ethical to charge a late fee eventhough you returned the movie or game before the deadline ? They did that to countless people. And why would swaping cases be defrauding ? Just like gamestop They charge you the same price wether the ítem has the acuall case or not

Your argument is invalid, YOU agreed to their rental policy. Stop trying to justify theft because they charged you with a late fee. Boo-freaking-hoo.

And "Strait Edge Follower"? Was the proper spelling already taken, or does being drug free mean you'll also have poor spelling and grammar?

Dude, i wanted to spell it that way. you need to relax, we are just having a friendly debate. Just take a deep breath my friend :)

Is this sale for every blockbuster ? cause ive seen no signs of it at my local blockbuster
Is this sale for every blockbuster ? cause ive seen no signs of it at my local blockbuster
Signs usually dont go up until the day of the sale.

bbv is not good about putting up signs or knowing what is going on. It will happen like hawaii boy says it will and you will probably shock the cashier cause they did not know about it. You have connections now that your on cag

Arent you supposed to advertise at least a week in advance ? Lol no wonder blockbuster is loosing money, cant do the basic things right. By the time the ad goes up, people would have already spent their money elsewere
I just picked up Allen Wake for $8, they where having a YMMV managers special 20% off used games.
Is that Alan Wake's evil nemesis?

While i agree with what you are saying, all im saying is that it would be a good thing to let people know ahead of time about upcomming deals. I like to compare weekly ads and say to myself ok, where is my money potentally going to ? I see motorstorm for 45 at gamestop lets see if i can get a better deal, oh look blockbuster has it for 40 Ill go there insted. I dont want to miss out on a better deal cause my money was spent just to find out that there was a better deal that wasnt advertised till the last minute.
dont like it, don't shop there.
I don't shop there at all actually. I only go in there when I happen to be at the mall and look around at the games while the wife wonders around other stores. It is so nice being in a game shop and having some zit faced man-boys ask me 3 different times if I need help finding anything, while I overhear them argue about their favorite killer app.

And I suppose all other retailers openly advertise their upcoming deals? Not quite.

The only reason why we, and some places like Slickdeals, get ads in advance is due to insiders. They either work for the stores and sneak a copy or for a newspaper, who typically get ads 2-3 weeks in advance.

In this case, we do have an insider, hence we are given the information. Once this sale actually goes live, I'm fairly certain BBV will have signage in-store. I don't know where you get your expectations, but they are far from realistic, which is not surprising.

They have Blockbusters in malls?
In many states changing the price tags from one item to another is considered illegal. This typically wouldn't matter for the same item, but you yourself have basically admitted that there are differences between the items and lets face it, there is a difference in value to most people.

In a lot of stores the employees honestly won't mind if you ask first and you won't possibly be on camera possibly committing a crime.

I can't believe I'm defending a newbie here, but here goes:

They do not say in their original statement that everyone is getting in an uproar over that they are changing a higher price label for a lower price one. What they ARE doing is switching out the generic rental case that maybe their BBV uses for selling the used movies/games in for the actual case/artwork/manual. See their quote below(bolded part).
My Friend im just like you and i have a solution to your problem,i did this when i got final fantasy 13. first get the movie or game that you want that doesnt have the case. Then you go to the rental isle that has the empty case for the movie or game that you want. Then you take the used stickers of the generic case ( they come off so easly ) and put them on the acual case that you want. Then you place the generic case on the rental rack.the used cases are the same as the rental case so they will never know. just do it out of sight of the employes just in case.
Albeit they could just ask the employees if they could have the actual case for the movie/game they want the original packaging for instead of being sneaky and switching it out in a side aisle. Although I've had employees give me a bs excuse that they 'don't have any PS3 cases lying around'(when they're actually using 20-30 of them to prop up some advertising on a small table over by the previously viewed games:roll:).

Mind you, they tend to keep sufficient cases to go with the extra artworks/manuals that they keep for all of the rental games anymore, so it's just a case of asking for a complete set anymore in most cases.

YESSSS see he gets it. Im Not stealing im still paying full price for the game. Im Not millipulating prices either, if i was doing that, then id be in trouble
It is even simpler than that. If he has to be "quick" and hide what he is doing then it is wrong. Argument over.
These insiders rock. They allow me to compair prices early. I should have joined this site ages ago.

Ok, now I just assume you can't spell.

Keeping it on topic, can't wait for the super sales to kick in @ BB.

Sorry bout that, this stupid touchscreen keyboard on my phone keeps on putting differint spellings of a word i want to type when i push the space key (dont ask why). People online make such a big deal about spelling mistakes online, why is that ? Anyway i agree with you cant wait to see the sale myself

Actually I thought I was in a Gamespot thread, so that shows how much attention I was paying. Regardless, when my local Blockbusters did have a Gamerush it was filled with zit faced man-boys so it works.
Hey I know where to buy replacement blu ray cases (the bb ones are awful) but what do you guys do about the cover art? Do you leave it blank or buy the covers somewhere or print them somewhere? I'd like some opinions lol thanks in advance!
If you find yourself looking for specific cover art to print out, look here. I always check there first.

Also, to help print them out at the correct size, download a program called UndercoverXP. That's what I use.

I don't think anyone should ask why since they should know it's autocorrection.
