What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Is blockbuster just going to have this blueray sale ( which is looking very good btw, my ps3 could use some blueray movies) or will it be with a game sale as well. I want them to do the b1 g1 free They did not to long ago

I'm going in about two hours to check out the selection. I'll post if they mention anything to me about a sale. My guess is that Hawaiiboy's post is going to be spot on.

I wish you luck. I'm looking forward to hearing about your results. I thought someone would have posted the "code" by now.
Arent you supposed to advertise at least a week in advance ? Lol no wonder blockbuster is loosing money, cant do the basic things right. By the time the ad goes up, people would have already spent their money elsewere
Most all retail stores don't advertise or put up signs until the day the sale starts. They are doing it right. Occasionally stores will advertise a day early for something really special like a one day sale. Otherwise I don't know why they would advertise early. So no one will buy anything until the sale starts? That's dumb. The only reason we get advance notice of any retail sale is from people that work there or make and/or print the ads.

Well I stand corrected. I won't be leaving the office this afternoon. I'll most likely go on my way home this evening. That's only about 6 hours away. Hopefully someone looks into it before then.

Hopefully someone does. I thought I'd see your post in a little while. Keep in mind there's a thread about this sale on Blu-ray.com and another CAG thread in the DVD/Blu-ray Deals section. These threads also have a longer list of available titles.Someone may post more info on these threads. Also keep on eye on BBV's twitter feed.

Before people get too amped too early, just wanted to point to this post.
the sale officially starts for everyone on friday 5/20 but they are emailing select customers that the sale starts tuesday 5/17 but you must have the email with the coupon code on it to take advantage of the sale.
I didn't get any email so I can't check.

Are the email with the coupon code...generic? If so, please share and post a pic.
anybody try it out today, see if the 5-20 deal is on?
The sale should start tomorrow. I stopped by and the woman informed me of the sale and told me it had started today. I picked out my movies, but the register didn't give me the sale price. She tried calling another store and it wasn't working there either. She manually adjusted the price for me, but the sale won't officially start until tomorrow.

It is a no-go until Friday at mine. I asked about a sale and was given a flyer with the details which stated that it's running from 5/20-6/6. The flyer at my store was different than the one that was posted on the BluRay Forums. I scoped stuff out, there was a quite a bit that was 9.99 so I'm sort of excited. I'll probably pop back in tomorrow if others are having success with the sale starting.

We transferred about 200 pieces of new release blu ray almost all of which are $16.99 right now but starting on sun 5/22 we have a reprice of those titles down to $12.99 which will obviously qualify for the 3 for $20 deal. why they dont do it for the start of the sale doesnt make any sense to me but whatever.

Price drops only happen on Sundays. Didn't you say they moved the sale up a week? It's likely they were priced down to $12.99 for this Sunday to qualify for the sale if it started next week. Or they're idiots. I'll believe either.

Yeah, I kind of think that BBV would be on a lot more solid financial footing if Hawaiiboy had been running the company as opposed to just working for it.

Sale is on and handled by the computer automatically so no need to even mention it and u won't run into any problems with an employee that doesn't know about it.

Would Sleeping Beauty be one of those? Saw a copy today for 16.99.

Just saw that on the Blockbuster facebook page.

" Blockbuster Just to be clear: you should not need a password to take advantage of the sneak preview sale. And Blu-ray is only included in the 5 for $20 deal. Sorry for the confusion — we're clarifying with the stores. If you are asked for a password, please use "sneak peek." "

So no 3 for 20? bummer :\

Was able to do the blu-ray 5 for 20 deal today. No signs, but they were obviously getting ready for it since they had a table of just 9.99 blurays. Their stock of games looks less promising this time around, though.
There is a game sale as well ? Gotta check it out
Well, I don't think anything has been confirmed yet, but I was scouting out the selection in case the B1G1 did happen again.
I heard from a source who heard from another source that there will be a B1G1 ($14.99 and under used games like before) from May 27th through May 30th. That is a very odd timeframe (as they usually start on Tuesday and go for at least a week - usually 2-4 weeks), but that's the info they got and they swear it is legit. We shall see. One concern is that they might start that big round of store closures before then (I have no info on this - just speculating based on the articles posted a few days ago). It would suck to have most of the stores closing and thus not participating in the sale.

interesting. as we only get info 1 week in advance so i dont know who your "sources" are. i know we are having the usual movie sale 5 for $20 and 3 for $20 during memorial day weekend but only because it was pushed back from this past weekend til then. price drops have almost come to complete halt as we had 1 this week(dead rising 2 $29.99) and none the week before.
Ditto here. However, the system didn't mark them down automatically. Manager knew about the sale so she had to manually adjust the amounts to 5/$20 pricing.
It is indeed in effect. I picked up 10 BDs for $40 this morning. If they ask for a password, just say "Sneakpeek."
Wow good haul ! What movies did you get ?

I'm at work and the BDs are in my car - I'll send out the list a little later :)

Hey guys, would you mind listing the titles you bought?
My nearest store is now a ways away and this info would help me a bunch.
Thanks!

I picked up Beowulf, District 13 Ultimatum, Red Cliff I and II, and Brothers Bloom. The manager was nice enough to convert District 13 Ultimatum for me.

A word of warning though. The Blockbuster I went to for some reason hot glued the Blu-ray covers to the Blockbuster cases so now there are some barely noticeable stains on the covers. I don't know if I'm anal enough to go and try to get them exchanged but seriously???

I got 15 myself (!). Because...they were just mocking me, sitting there.

Red Cliff I/II, Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, Moon, The Road, Sherlock Holmes, D13: U, Green Zone, AvP: Requiem, Valkyrie, Superman/Batman, Cloudy w/ Meatballs, Up in the Air, and Alice in Wonderland.

They had a flyer in my Blockbuster saying that DVD's and Blu rays 9.99 or less are 5 for 20 and DVD's 14.99 or less are 3 for 20. So did the Blu ray 3 for 20 part of this sale get cancelled?

On a side note, Chloe was mismarked as $9.99 and they wouldn't let me have it :( It was $12.99. She said they were getting more movies Friday

I dunno - I had a hard time pulling the trigger on some of the Amazon Black Friday $5 Blu-Rays - and those are new. I just don't know that I want to spend $5 on used ones... I guess I'll have to check out the selection anyway.

So it seems YMMV on ringing up automatically? That is odd for BBV.

Bought 10 today:

Clerks II
Red Cliff I
Red Cliff II
Scott Pilgrim
Zombieland
A Scanner Darkly
Sex and the City (for my gf) - Edit: Who am I kidding? I bought it for me :)
The Princess and the Frog
Funny People
The Hurt Locker

$42.40 after tax. I already have 100 blank blu ray cases being shipped to my house. (I was just going to order 25, but for another $10 I got 75 more. I am a CAG after all :p )

There were only one or two copies of everything I bought except there were lots of copies of The Hurt Locker and Funny People. I specifically remember there were only 2 copies of Red Cliff, Sex and the City (older $6.99 movie), and Princess and the Frog. There was only 1 copy of zombieland, a scanner darkly, and clerks II, so these might be a little more ymmv.

If I had the $$$, or the BBV Credit, I'd buy like 40 or 50 blu rays, but I just tried to stick to the movies I think hold up to multiple viewings (in my opinion) or might look nice on blu ray.

I haven't seen scott pilgrim, red cliff, or a scanner darkly, but I'll probably give them multiple views as well. I never even heard about red cliff, but it seems pretty popular in this thread and the blu-ray.com thread so I figured what the hell. It's half the price it is on Amazon.com.

I didn't try to buy any of the 3 for $20 blu-rays. It would be nice to get some confirmation from someone who had it work. I guess I'm waiting for that Big Sunday drop Hawaiiboy mentioned a couple pages back. He said a lot of $16.99 movies that just got converted will be lowered to $12.99.

I'm sorry to hear that. Chloe is a good movie. And even if you don't like the movie, there are two big reasons :drool: to own it on blu-ray high-def. ;)
:bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

Maybe try to match it up with two other $14.99 or under movies for the 3 for $20 deal

Ok the BR deal is pretty cool I guess (won't get anything unless I can find some kid stuff), but the real meat and bones of this thread is the gaming B1G1 sale. Has there been any more news of the sale that was supposed to be at the end of the month? Last I saw (and looking back now...unless I'm missing something) it was still yet to be confirmed.

I think it ringed up automatically for me. The BBV employee ringing me up already knew about the sale, so maybe she typed in a code really quick, idk. Like you said, it's not like BBV to rely on the employees to input a code like Hollywood Video used to.

I see what you mean about buying blu rays. I guess it depends on how much of a cinefile you are. I have friends who don't understand the point of owning movies because they would never watch a movie more than once. In my opinion, BBV has a small handful of movies that are worth multiple views. I enjoy watching movies like The Hurt Locker or Shutter Island over and over again. I enjoy analyzing films by auteurs like Scorsese. If I'm going to watch a movie over and over, I might as well buy the blu ray for $4.

On the other hand, there are sort of crappy movies like Transformers 2 that just look awesome on blu ray and might be worth the $4 to look at giant robots beat the heck out of each other in high definition. When browsing the selection, keep in mind BBV has a lot of "Rental" versions that have the movie only and cut out the special features. Also keep in mind that some of the "2-disc Special Editions" are just 2-discs because one of the discs is a digital copy that BBV never carried.

I asked a knowledgeable BBV employee today about any video game sales coming up and she told me about the "B1G1 $14.99 and under sale that they're supposed to have for 3 days over memorial day weekend - Friday, Sat, Sun."

As usual try not to get your hopes up, but it's looking pretty good right now. :) I'm not as excited as sometimes. I just found out today that most of my blockbusters in my area are closed. I used to have 15 stores in a 5 or 6 mile radius of my home. Now there are only about 5 stores.

3 days only? Hmm, it usually runs for 2-3 weeks. Might have to do some insane road tripping on that weekend.

(500) Days of Summer
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
Into the Wild
Up in the Air
Alice in Wonderland

I only really wanted (500) Days of Summer. I've seen all the others, except Up in the Air. Figure I'll just trade some on goozex and make out a little on the cost, since (500) is around $10 anywhere, anyway.

Do you need regular blu ray cases to trade into goozex?

Up in the Air is a great movie. Now that you mention it, I want to buy (500) Days of Summer also. I didn't see it today, but you'd think they'd have lots of copies at BBV. Do you remember seeing a lot of copies today?

I only saw the one copy. I was looking for that and any Harry Potter, but no luck on that.

You do need the regular cases ... I'll just swap out some of my own until I can get replacements ... if I even bother to do that ... I'm not sure I care for myself. I noticed that the cover art is just lightly glued on to a blue piece of paper, bytheway.

Figures. I've already seen (500) Days of Summer three times, and I catch bits and pieces of it on cable every now and then. I'd still like to own it on blu-ray. I dislike romantic comedies, but this one is so great and so funny. I must try to find this one, shutter island, coraline, sherlock holmes, and a few others.

I've never used Goosex before, but it sounds like a good resource right now for those filler movies.

I'm just now noticing how these covers are glued on a little bit. It's not that bad. I've bought about 8 or 10 used blu rays from BBV in the past, but I don't remember if they were glued on like this.
