What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Well, there's really no excuse for me not to pop up to my local BBV which is only 1/2 mile away. I guess I'll go up there in a bit.

Just got back with:
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Ong Bak 2
Inglourious Bastards
Superbad 2 Disc SE
I Love You Man
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Alice in Wonderland
Quantum of Solace
The Runaways

My buddy grabbed:
Star Trek
Layer Cake (the last one too damnit)
Scott Pilgrim
Public Enemies
and some other blu.

Gotta buy some cases now.

I'm gonna be That Guy - should we move these bluray discussions to the actual bluray forum? There's already a big thread about this deal in there. I'm mostly looking at this thread for game price drops and information on the B1G1 sale, but instead its just endless lists of people buying Scott Pilgrim and Red Cliff.

thanks for the input. but everyone else seems to enjoy it including me. its part of the price of keeping up with the thread. if you check all the previous bbv b1g1 sales, you can reduce it down to a bunch of lists of what people got. the lists are good because you get a sense of whats out there. And I didn't know there was a bluray forum here.

There's only 2 BBV's in my area (down from 6) but I did grab my 5
Star Trek
Inglorious Bastards
She's out of my League
Halloween
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World...not bad for 4$ a piece and if they're going to run the BOGO game sale i'd rather get a few games than more Blu's
Is there a list of "rental" versions of these Blu-rays? I hate them, I know Whip It is one of them.
Star Trek is the Single Disc Edition (I'm pretty sure it doesn't have deleted scenes/special features, which is why I passed on it).

Sherlock Holmes is also a Rental version (passed for the same reasons above)

Well, worked for me no problem. They had no signage up and I didn't say anything to the clerk but afterwards he indicated he knew about the sale. I really don't think he entered a code or anything though.

After saying I didn't think paying even $4 for used blu-rays was worth it, I ended up getting 10 ;)

Alice In Wonderland
Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Princess and the Frog
Blue Planet IMAX
Astro Boy
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Star Trek
Star Wars Clone Wars
Planet 51
National Treasure

As you can see I mostly picked kids movies that will be watched repeatedly. We've seen most of those on Netflix or DVD already, but what the hell. American Treasure, Parnassus, Alice, and Blue Planet I've never seen but looked like good ones I can watch with the older kids. And believe it or not, I've never seen the new Star Trek movie so that was by far my "best" pickup. (I wasn't aware it was a special "rental" version but in the end that doesn't matter - I find I watch "extras" about once a year across all my DVDs and Blu-rays...)

Unlike with games, I didn't check these before purchasing. Looking at them all right now, AstroBoy and Alice in Wonderland are very smudged and dirty and, yes, even scratched to hell. So I will have to try to swap those tomorrow. I know they have several Astro Boy at least. The Astro Boy, in particular, is the worst looking blu-ray I've ever seen. Of course I've only had new ones up to this point ;).

My 3 year-old is watching Planet 51 right now. The only problem with getting blu-rays for the kids is that I don't want them messing with the PS3. Usually I just give them crappy beat up DVDs to play on the $40 DVD player...

Here's my haul:

Terminator Salvation
Eyes Wide Shut
Zombieland
JFK
Hurt Locker
The Box
2012
King Kong
No Country for Old Men
Inglorious Bastards

They had a ton of other great movies (Shutter Island, Star Trek, etc) but I already own them :)

I got..
Ponyo
Juno
the lost boys
transformers revenge
inglorious
planet 51
cloudy meatballs
ice age
g-force
princess and the frog.

My daughter is really into this ponyo movie.

Oh and a manager told me games are B1G1 so I got 6 and the promo did not work, but he over rode it for me. :)

FYI, "The Wrestler" has the rental exclusive label, but, I just tested it out, and it does in fact still have bonus features. Maybe there is a regular version that has MORE bonus features, but this version still includes the ones listed on the back of the cover.

I passed on Sherlock Holmes because it had the rental exclusive tag, and no bonus features listed.

These ones I got are rental versions:

Terminator Salvation
The Box

For $4 a piece though...who cares? Don't let the lack of bonus features stop you from getting an awesome movie in HD!

definitely going to check this out tomorrow! any more information about this sale? i have a few questions but i dont see it anywhere on the thread (original post said its on last page of thread..?)

but if anyone can answer it it would be nice

do only rental copies qualify? or all used copies? do they generally come in complete or generic cases?

All used Blu-rays $9.99 and under qualify and they come with the original artwork but Blockbuster cases. Also, I noticed that BB has started hot gluing the artwork to the cases which left a stain on some of the artwork.

I believe 500 Days of Summer is also a rental copy.

I just Netflixed Sherlock Holmes and The Wolfman, both really good movies.

I went with:
2012
Bedtime Stories
Grown Ups
Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Inglorious Basterds

I have older kids, most of these are for them, with the exception of the Basterds, obviously.
Exercised restraint and passed on Gran Torino and a few others.

The clerk seemed aware of the deal, but told me that I was the first in his store to take advantage of it, and "I hope this rings up right." It did.

Crap - I didn't see Ponyo or I would have bought that for sure. It is a great movie that would look awesome in blu-ray. My son watches the DVD version all the time.

As for the games, good deal there. I was actually somewhat disappointed with their game selection, though. They had a small candy display (those clear plastic bowls on poles) up front with all the $14.99 and under games and it was mostly crap. They had some nice stuff at $19.99 though (FF XIII, SWFU II, etc). Hopefully those will drop soon.

I just said check the last pages because that will have the most current discussion of the deal. But it really isn't all that complicated - it is 5 for $20 on used blu-rays $9.99 and under. They all seem to be in Blockbuster cases and why would rentals be included? It is on the used movies they sell (which are former rentals).

At my store they had a bin with "$6.99 and up" blu-rays. But most of the good stuff was on a couple of end caps and along one wall. It was mixed in with the $12.99 and $16.99 stuff for the most part so I was relying on their pricing being up to date and it seems like it was as far as I could tell.

I may have to hit up another store tomorrow for Ponyo, though I'm not sure what else I'd get to go along with it ;).

While I still don't think $4 each is all that great, it is a much better price than you could get most of these things for when HWV went out of business and also when individual BBV stores close. That's why I never understand why people want stores to go out of business so they can get in on the clearance - these regular sales are usually so much better (and will happen repeatedly ;)).
For anyone who got Scott Pilgrim, are the extra features on there too or are they excluded b/c of being rentals (ala Netflix)?
Blockbuster used copies do have the extras, save for the "make this movie tolerable" feature.

I really enjoyed SP. It took some warming up to, but in the end was pretty awesome.

I didn't see Ponyo either, darn! Need to keep an eye out for that one.

$4 each not a great deal? Madness! $4 is a steal for a blu ray - most of which are pretty good titles that are going for $10 to $20+ new on Amazon.

Granted, though, $10 for a new copy with regular case and insert is different than a smudged BBV copy ;). Besides a few Pixar movies, for the most part I've gotten my blus new from Amazon for $5 or so (got a bunch on BF and at the end of last year). And in a reversal of the way it used to be, I have plenty of cheap credit to spend at Amazon and none at BBV, so $5-$10 new blu-rays at Amazon is a much better deal than $4 used ones at BBV.

But, like I said, I still picked up 10 and if I can find Ponyo I'll get another 5.

Got 500 days of summer, alice in wonderland, she's out of my league, gi joe, bruno, district 9, couples retreat, funny people, brooklyns finest, and Truman Show for $40 + tax.

Not bad except I forgot I already had Truman Show lol anyone wanna trade ;)

Actually I would love to get a copy of Truman Show. What are you looking for?

Hmmmm.

I guess maybe Disney's 'no resale of used copies of their movies' agreement with BBV that the one manager told me about a while ago has been lifted for the BR copies of their movies now.

From what she told me, they were not allowed to put out the dvd version of Disney movies onto the previously viewed dvd racks due to said agreement. I asked about this at a second BBV and they corroborated the deal the first manager told me about.

Today I got:
The Hurt Locker
Taken
Shutter Island
Quantum of Solace
Tommy Boy Holy Schnieke Edition

All movies I really want to see for the first time except Tommy Boy which is an upgrade from my original release DVD. Just watched Casino Royale and QoS for the 360 is in my backlog so glad to find QoS in this deal. I may go back for another set including Inglorious Basterds and some of the animated flicks like Ice Age and Ponyo. It's just nice when you get the animated movies with an accompanying DVD, but $4 is hard to beat.

Good selection except for QoS (worst Bond movie ever).

Taken is AWESOME. Shutter Island is also amazing.

Shutter Island would look really good in blu-ray as well. I wasnt too much of a fan of QoS, but Id like to check it out in blu-ray if there isnt anything else.

Yeah, I've heard that about QoS, but since I finally got around to watching CR which was one of my first BRs and having QoS in my backlog forever, I figure it's about as much as it would cost to rent so why not?

Can't fault you there :) Heck, I picked up 2012 which probably falls into the same category as QoS. CR is awesome. Wish that was a part of this sale.

I dunno about that but I picked up a few Disney movies and saw many others, including Toy Story 1 and 2 which I think were $12.99. Maybe it is just DVDs.

Mr. Wint humbly disagrees.

It has all the blu ray features. I already own the DVD, but I bought the blu-ray anyway because I noticed it had blu ray special features that are exlcusive to blu ray. They actually had 2 or 3 copies of scott pilgrim at my store, so it probably isn't too hard to find either.
I totally understand your frustration. You might want to save some time and avoid this thread until we get a little closer to memorial day weekend. I'm sure the discussion will shift back to videogame deals soon.

damn those are some good hauls we need a sticky with all the titles I would go for Public Enemies, QOS, Shutter Island, and Red Cliff 1 and 2 definately
Wow. Guess I was lucky to find a copy of Ponyo and Scott Pilgrim at the same store.
I found neither at 2 stores.

just a reminder, you can have ur store search any surrounding stores(if you have any) for titles like ponyo and scott pilgrim or anything else.

I'm in my parents' tiny town for the next few days and the closest Blockbuster is 20 minutes away. I went to see what they had because why not... they only had two of the ones I was looking for. :( I wanted Coraline, Benjamin Button, Persepolis, Ponyo, and A Single Man. Ended up with:

- A Single Man
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2-disc complete edition!)
- Juno (It says 2-disc, but the second disc was just a digital copy so they didn't include it; all the special features are on the first)
- Scott Pilgrim (Collector's Edition!)
- Watchmen (Director's Cut 2-disc)

I already own Scott Pilgrim and Watchmen on DVD but neither came with special features, so I am fine with my haul. When I head back home I'll check another Blockbuster... here's hoping I get lucky!

Oh, and I had no trouble. The only employee working knew all about the sale and didn't even ask questions, she just gave me the sale price. I was expecting some resistance!

Picked up

Twilight
Twilight New Moon
Toy Story
The Princess and the Frog
9
Beetlejuice
Gandhi
Mean Girls
Pirates II Stagnetti's Revenge x 2

Those were listed at 12 or so on Amazon so figured I would pick them up to try to get some money back. Pirates II I think was originally a porno but they took that stuff out and sold the dvd (or something to that (extent)

Toy Story actually rang up at $12.99 but it had the $9.99 sticker on the case so they just adjusted them manually.
manager at bb toaday mentioned a b1g1 video game sale next week.usual $15 and under.told new price drops coming...
This is the reason I have this thread in my subscription list.

And BBV was nice enough to wait until the week I start my new job and will have extra income coming in again!
