ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

It's VF4 for PS2. It's not that bad of a deal.

trading in a game for 1.25 is....scary. for 1.25 I'd let it sit on my shelf and collect dust.

Upsetting PGR4 is already at $22. I actually own a copy from before, but was going to trade in...oh well.

Here's hoping GR gets MLB 08 before Friday ;)

Anyone know if :ps3: NHL 2k8 still gets $36? Never made it to the Wiki but was reported at that price a few pages back. Suppose I'll find out for myself later today.

They must have saw the RS ad, heh.

How much does SD Vs RAW 08 get?

hmm..... I'm tempted to ditch my copy. I haven't even had a chance to play it yet, but I got it for $20 from Amazon on BF. Wondering whether I should play through it and get the sequel down the road or just skip the first one completely and go straight for the second one.

Go straight to second. Sequel comes soon. Not worth playing the first one now.

Just got rid of my last $19 or so Motorstorm for $30, my 60 bucks in GS store credit is screaming to be flipped to BB credit we need a good trade coupon or a good used game of the week this upcoming week. Also I can verify the higher price on Forza2/MUA combo pack, the store I use to get them all from had it listed at either 24.99 or 26.99 I cant remember (i was pretty high)

Strangely Blockbuster has managed to get a copy of Dragon Quest Swords in for purchase, but not for rental. The one time when I actually want to rent a game instead of buy it.

They also had Revenant Wings and Pokemon Ranger for sale. So much for the "we don't get new DS games" line I was given a couple weeks ago for Professor Layton.

My local store got one copy of Professor Layton. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a GR with Apollo Justice (not even a rental copy).

Some TIVs

Spiderman: Friend or Foe (x360): $19
Clive Barker's Jericho (PS3): $26
NHL 2k8 (PS3) $23

I only got $15 for PotC At World's End 360 today =\

I was tempted to buy a DQ Swords today at Blockbuster but it'd dip into my 360 fund and Bee Movie/Avatar is the best flip I got right now at $12.50 + tax to $22 :(

I went in to a regular BB I hadn't been to in a long while. They had the PS3 setup like the other one I saw (so this makes 2 out of 10-12 stores that have it) and sold 40GB PS3s ala carte, Blu-Ray movies, and a handful of new games. To my utter shock, one of those games was DQ Swords. Well, I guess it wasn't "utter" shock but really just mild shock since I saw your post earlier ;) (though I thought you would be talking GR and not regular BB). Also, they did not have it for rent. And they did not have the DS games (or at least didn't have the cases out for them).

And I asked about Avatar Burning Earth since I just picked one up at Target before. I guess this is not news to everyone here but, yeah, $22... Not worth it to me unless I *really* wanted to get DQ Swords - but I really just want to rent that if only Hollywood or Blockbuster would deem to carry it for rent :bomb:.

My store told me that they are getting in a PS3/ HDTV setup for demo games and blu-ray promotion, if that is want you were talking about i think all corporate stores are getting them in.

Yeah, that's it. I'd be surprised if ALL stores are getting them though. Only the store in the wealthiest area I know of got one a month or so ago. Now this store today was the second I've seen. If my little local podunk hick town store gets one *then* I'll believe all corporate stores are getting them ;). I just hope my local store gets my SSBB preorder in a timely fashion.

Anyone going to check and see if GR gets MLB 08 The Show today (by some miracle...haha).

I can wait until Friday also...as I have a Best Buy coupon/GC also....so, do I use GR credit or my BB giftcards.
All Blockbuster stores are going to have the Blu-Ray Setup and ps3's by May.
I heard differently. Some stores are smaller and will not carry blu ray until (or if) they replace dvd as the primary format, similar to what happened to vhs a while back.

There's a blockbuster near me that is tiny. It's the main store that I go to and they have said that they will not be getting in blu ray in the foreseeable future. However another BB a bit further away has said they will have their blu ray setup as well as a PS3 gaming center and enhanced game selection by April.

Wow if that is true those stores will not have blu-ray until 2025 or maybe later. DVD still has a lot of life left the Blu-ray players are going to have to drop under $100 with discs priced the same as DVD if they want to push DVD out.

I seriously doubt it. They will switch when it's profitable for them to do so.

I remember when I got my first DVD player and went to rent DVDs they had them on a small circular rack. New releases only. Probably 50 titles. I'm guessing they will have something similar starting in a year or two.

I've been to two BBs in my area. One is in a newer strip mall and has Blu-Rays for rent. I asked about consoles and manager there said that most likely not and to try a bigger store.
I went to the bigger storer, which is in an older building. The square footage was definitely larger, but they didn't have any Blu-Rays at all. The lady I talked to they probably won't get them for awhile. They do have more games, but they are all crap tho. However, the rental prices for movies where cheaper than the newer one. Maybe, it's a franchise.

Couple more today, got enough credit to pay for my Brawl/GTA4 in addition to what I bought last weekend.

Mass Effect $35
Marvel UA $12
Ok, back on topic ;) Any MLB 08 yet :)
I didn't see any MLB 08 at my local store just now. I did notice they'd gotten in Frontlines and Turning Point, neither of which I'm interested in. They also had some Wii systems in stock and were selling them in a bundle as denoted by a hand-written sign on their door.
Marvel UA $12

:360:? A drop? How can this be?
I think it just happened, my friend traded his in yesterday and got $15.
LOL, it's about time. Blockbuster probably owns 80% of the copies of MUA that were ever printed.
I know the store closest to me has 7 (for the 360) :whistle2:#

Oh yeah? I know for a fact my old stomping ground has 25 copies. All from me.

Thanks....I guess Friday is still the normal for them (except for high profile games.....I can see them getting GTA IV on release day....maybe SSBB)

Blockbuster sent out a memo about it about a month ago and the Blu-Ray and game push is actually part of the new CEO's "Rock the Block" campaign. Every Franchise store should have the Blu-Ray setup by the end of May.

I just called a sears that i was hoping to stop at on friday, They said that they are sold out of the GC systems, Guess i'll hav eto look for other local sears stores.

:ps3:
Juiced 2 $23

:psp:
Killzone: Liberation $12.50

And to my shock I saw :360: console pro and core as well as 40GB PS3s at Blockbuster. I have like $490 in credit at the moment, I almost bought a pro but I really want an elite.
