ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Nah, the district manager of 1 store basically enacted a city wide suspension on my account! I can only trade at one store, and can only trade in 1 copy of a game. I can still trade a franchise locations, but like I said they offer less than corporate stores. I guess I could try some of the stores I haven't opened trading accounts at, but I have a feeling that dm whore has completely blocked me.

Went in to pre-order Smash Brothers this afternoon and noticed '9.99 or under/price drop' bins across the front of the store. Three of the bins had all remaining XBOX and Gamecube games in them and and the other 2 had PS2 games. I also noticed that the the game section is even smaller... all of the wall space is now dvd's and the game area is mostly rentals. Not much left... bummer...
Well I have 2 accounts because my name can be "seen" as two names... ie. Micheal & Mike, Benjamin & Ben... =D
Wouldn't you have to show them the same drivers license?

Ok guys I need your advise. I just got back from Goodwill and they had 3 halo 3 games and 5 Mass Effects all were open but pretty good condition they were all $15 half off. I bought all of them but what should I do with them? Ebay? BB? or gamestop are they still doing the trade 2 get extra $10 thing? let me know what you guys think Thanks!!!

Wait, you got them for $7.50 or was the $15 half off? Either way it is a good deal but you made out like a bandit if they were $7.50. I'd do a little of each - maybe eBay to get the original cash investment back and then trade the rest evenly to GS/BB. The extra $5 deal at EB/GS goes till the 24th I believe.

I'm just happy your not in my city/area, you would have basically ruined flipping for that city. However I have a feeling were gonna all be affected from your actions. BB creates new policy's because of these things. Pissing of a DM will only get him or her to talk to the higher ups and the next thing you know were all screwed. :argue:

lol, that sucks!

You'll make a good buck at gamestop. I wouldn't do BB for those 8 games.

You'll make $230 in store credit from Gamestop/EB with just the $10 trade-in bonus. Gotta count the edge card in too. You might look a little suspicious though.

If you're getting Devil May Cry 4, GTA IV, Lost Odyssey or Super Smash Bros. Brawl you can get an extra 20% on top of everything you received already.

they were $30 I bought them for $15. I guess I will ebay a Couple then trade some in for Super Smash then BB the rest.
NO! In fact, they will look at you funny if you try to trade in a new game - it is not recommended ;). Open them first (once you are sure of the trade-in value, anyway). I mean, I'd often go in and ask for a few trade-in prices, then say, "cool, I have those in my car - I'll be right back". Then I'd go out to the car, open them, swtich the cases out (since I got a boatload of DVD cases from my GR store and would prefer to keep the new game cases of which I now have a never-ending supply), then go in and trade.

Others, including DJKunai, will say they have no problem trading in sealed games. That may be so on a case-by-case basis, but bringing them in sealed just adds the potential element for suspicion (ie, that you just jacked them from Walmart or something).

As for anything on the Wiki from "last month" just be aware that prices may have changed since then - always call yourself if a price isn't being actively quoted in this thread.
Wow! And GameFly I believe sends me a new manual and case when I buy a used game! Thanks for your pro tips, I will be sure to practice safe-kunai from the back of my car. ;)

Chicks respect a man who keeps it in the plastic.

Wow...for the first time in awhile, I couldn't find the thread on the first page...

Well today I decided to use my credit and picked up a Wii and DS cobalt/black...

Still have some more credit...What games do you recommend I pick up...Or should I flip it on craigslist?

They are only going for $350 or so on craigslist, if you want it, keep it. SMG, no more heroes, zelda, and with SSBB coming out and mario kart, how can you not want to kick some ass on brawl?

Was able to find Metal Slug Anthology mint used...BB guy wouldn't let me have the white Wii case, he did give me the instruction manual though...Was 24.99 that's like one Monster Madness game :) Also found Street Fighter Anniversary Edition for the PS2 i just looked in the case & the guy must have put the wrong game cuz its Street Fighter Anthology :bomb:

i went to do my first trade at blockbuster tonight and they told me my games were scratched and couldn't be traded in! the games weren't scratched bad or anything, just scratched up ya know? that kinda happens sometimes. i told the woman if you don't accept trades on games that are scratched then why is it that all of your pre-played games come that way? i also asked why the pre-viewed movies were scratched as well. at that point she slammed my games on the counter and told me to come back tomorrow and talk to "bob" the manager.

i'm never going to blockbuster again.

Don't let it get ya down, the good thing about BB is that they are about as common as skanks at a frat party. Just hit up a different one and you'll be ok. Its happened to me before just depends on the individual employee doing the trade.

Go to a different BB or get a different employee. You'll eventually get that employee that accepts everything.

yeah, i know it'll be fine if i just go to someone else. i was there last week with the same exact games and they said it was fine (i just didn't bring a debit card to put on the account). i brought that up and she acted like it didn't matter at all.

Thats because 97% of people who say things like that are full of crap... Like when people say they are a frequent renter, if 21 rentals in 6 years is your thing.

i just can't believe someone would give me such bullshit as to say "this is scratched and we don't take scratched stuff!" i mean, seriously...

i should have tried to buy a used game from them and then bitch at her about how it was scratched up.

I see your point and agree with you somewhat, however I think it'd be great if no one ever turned in really scratched games. I can't count the number of times I've been annoyed cause GS/EB had really crappy used discs simply because they didn't thoroughly check their trades.

It's all caveat emptor I suppose.

oh yeah, i agree too. i hate getting games that are scratched to hell. one of these has a tiny nick on it somehow at the top. the other ones only have like three or four tiny scratches on them. if it was scratched up EVERYWHERE then i would have understood what she was talking about.

I think the point Stonecoldfreak1 is trying to make (or should try to make) is that Blockbuster tries to pass off former rentals in their used game section and in general, these are scratched to hell and back. Yet they have no trouble putting those out there (often with no original case, original manual, or original artwork to boot - going back to the MUA/Forza issue as well).

EB/GS should have higher standards because all of their games come from trade-ins which should be scrutinized a bit better. But for Blockbuster to reject games when they have such crappy ex-rental stock on their used game shelf is a bit much. But then again, I have *never* had a game rejected for that reason at any store. I've traded in a few slightly dodgy used games at Blockbuster that I got from ebgames.com back when you could toss in a cheap used game for free shipping. But other than that, of course, most of my games are in mint condition ;). So they tended to give me the benefit of the doubt on my other trade-ins.

Again, though, as others have said, it is no big deal. Just take them to a different store or even the same one when a different employee is working. I have noticed that at regular Blockbuster's (as opposed to Gamerush) they seem to look over the discs a bit more than necessary though. I've even had them stare at, hesitate, wipe off, etc brand new games I just opened in the car . It is probably because they see far less trade-ins that when they do process them they do it more "by the book".

Edit - One time recently the manager was training someone who never processed trades before (a common experience if you go to regular BBs) and she was telling the clerk to check the condition and also to make sure they were for the right region! Now that is thorough (though probably applies more to DVDs but whatever).
Yeah im having withdrawls....
I think i have a sickness...LOLz... Is there some type of 12 step program to get off kunai?

Does anybody know how much the old PSP hardware trades in for? I could've gotten $60 + another $10 bonus at GameStop, but I want to keep all my credit at one place. If it's less than $80, I'll probably just keep it and not get a Slim PSP. I'm going to be checking my two GameRushes at least once a week to see if they have a Wii. This $300 in credit is really bothering me. :)

If you are looking for a WII I would ask them when their shipment day is...From there I would just call them in the morning to see if they got them in stock....

I picked up a Wii yesterday and I just called my GRs in the area to see which one had them in stock...

GS credit is always much more valuable. With that $70 in GS credit, you can possibly obtain up to $140 in GR/BB credit. Just wait until GS does one of their B2G1 and you can almost triple that credit.

Just a heads up for anyone in the area, the Brea, CA Blockbuster has 2 60 GB PS3's in stock. They're asking $450 for it (not sure if that's on par with what's been reported), but if there's anyone in the area looking for one, they've got them.
Great, i'll be in the Brea area tomorrow after school. Where might this BB be located by?
It's on Imperial and Brea. Brea is located in between Harbor and State College. Just be careful if there's a Don Vito (Viva La Bam) lookalike on duty though. This guy gets uber suspicious if you cough the wrong way. He usually works in the morning, so if you go at night you should be fine.

Anyone know the trade value of Ninja Gaiden Sigma? I actually found a copy of the collector's edition, so I want to unload my regular. Thanks!

Would any DVD case be accepted when trading in Forza and Marvel separately, or do I need lime green 360 cases? I just got a few Blockbuster cases for free, but they're black, and the Blockbuster logo is on their insides. I tried trading the games in with CD cases, but they were rejected, so I'm planning to print out inserts... plus, I have the original manuals.
Quick question. What is needed to open an account at a BB to trade in games?
You just need to have an existing BB account and sign an agreement to trade with them. If you don't already have an account, they'll need your DL and a credit card.

Ah, that's near their mall. Hmm, i'm going today around 11:30, hope it goes well.
