ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Quick question: Does Blockbuster still have after hours drop offs of rentals? I just realized a rental is due back by noon and I can't get there in the morn. Ugh. I thought they were due back by closing.

your BB doesn't have a drop box connected to the store? I've never seen one without it.

Blockbuster has no late fees. As long as you return everything within a week you will be fine. The "noon" deadline is also not enforced as far as I can tell.

Even if you are really late (like 30 days) they only charge you a $1.30 restocking fee -- I abuse this frequently to rent games for 4 weeks.

Trade-In Prices

Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights (360) - $22
The Bee Movie (360) - $22

These were at Blockbuster Non-GR stores in Ohio. Flip possibilities with Targets in the area that clearance out their games quickly and cheaply. This is how I'll be getting MY copy of Brawl! (And maybe more)

Anyone know what they're giving right now for Spiderman Friend vs Foe?

makes you sound like an ass..and don't bombard me with justifications or insults simply for stating an honest opinion

I dont think your an a **. Do what makes you happy. BB can always change there policy.

Heh, figured I'd draw some backlash on that. I could care less what others think. It's their policy, not mine. I never pay for my rentals, always use MCR coupons or the coupon from Total Access.

I typically do this for games that my son wants to play, but I'll never buy "Atlantis Squarpantis anyone?", or games that I want to try before buying, or games that I feel I can beat within the allotted timeframe.

I do this too....if i can rent a game for what amounts to around a month for like $10 bucks, why would I not do that?

I would assume tomorrow....at least I hope...time to use my credit.

Yes, damion is an ass. He doesnt return on time, so he has to pay the penality, which is $1.30. Let us call the police on him for doing something highly illegal/wrong.

wow...a bit presumptuous aren't we? forgive me, perhaps i wasn't clear in what my underlying intention was in saying to damian "makes you sound like an ass"...what i was INTENDING for that to mean is "Damion, keeping it for 30 days prevents other people from playing it...especially considering BBV's 'we rent out 1 copy of the most popular game' policy"..i dont' give a damn about the $1.30. Who the hell would? you honestly think I'm going to call out damion on account of not returning on time? pssshhh...i got better things to do with my time man.

and in response to daminion's post above:

i never said I thought you were an ass man...i said keeping a game for 30 days makes anyone ELSE who'd like to rent that game see you as an ass. Kapishe?
Has anyone seen any PSPs at their local GR in SOCAL?

any where in socal would be nice. LA OC SD LB??

I drive all over for work so I would be able to pick one up any where!? THANKs!
Good luck, I asked the same thing last week, nothing to be had. But the God of War / PSP combo is highly likely to be sold by BB, and it comes out in June, so I will just wait until then.

I too do this, I often keep things that I rent for 14 days and up, especially games and typically wii games. I even keep the occasional game. As with all my GR/BB dealings, I'm playing by their rules, and they have plenty of my cash to prove as much.

For people interested in getting MLB 08 The Show :ps3: from Blockbuster (not Game Rush)...I asked at a few stores that have received games like DQ Swords and Turok :ps3: to sell if they were getting The Show and at one store the manager said "its whatever they send us" and at another store a manager checked the computer and said there were not any to sell on order.

Damn I was really hoping BB would get MLB 08 since I have over $300 in GCs and credit there. I'll have to stop by tomorrow and check it out.

I saw over 6 MLB the shows @ my GR today.... Along with about 3,000 copies of Brawl.....

traded in today:

Avatar (360) - 22
BLue Dragon - 22
TW 07' - 12
Tax - 4.22
Total - 60.22

Also stopped by Target today and found Jerico for $12.48 and flips for $26 and NHL 2k8 for $14.48 and that flips for $23, also used my trusty $5 off "TOY" coupon again for a total of $24.12 and a total flip tomorrow of $52and some change. I still have to flip tomorrow, 2 Avatar's and Juiced 2 and whatever I can find at my other local area target.

I'm telling you what, target has been a gold mine lately, especially with the coupon. easily doubling my GR cred to finally get a PS3 and complete the console trifecta....

They actually had Brawl on the shelf?

Nope, in boxes behind the register, along with Bully, The Show, and Army of Two. I told the cashier to take it away from my sight or else I might have to do something irrational, she gave me a questionable look, so I then shut the fuck up...
More Wii trade values as of today, 3/6:
Kororinpa $9
Did you actually trade that in? You can get $30 on ebay for it!

Anyway, nothing new, but confirmation on these two which I traded in :

PS3 Folklore $36
X360 Bee Movie $22

I got to my Game Rush on Tuesday at around 6, and I picked up their last Wii. They got 5 in that day after not getting any for a few weeks, and I was able to nab one. They said it was mandated by Nintendo to preorder SSBB which sounded like BS, but I was going to get it from them anyways with my leftover credit.

Price of Wii: less than $100 thanks to the Marvel/Forza combo, The Bigs, and Hour of Victory. I'm happy to get it for this cheap.

I'm drunk. But Ilm irish so its okay.

$6 - Xbox Live unpluugged
$8 - outfit
$12 - cabella alaksa
$1.25 - harvest moon wonderful life gcn

No! I did NOT trade in any of those since it was not the $5 bonus store. I will return Harvest Moon yet flip the rest. Genius! Drunken genius!

Thanks, usually if they are getting them in to sell, they will get them on Tuesday or Wednesday. I was able to rent (with free rental) The Show last night before they officially put it on the shelf. I'll go back in this weekend and pay the keep it price.

I am so very tempted to pick up a PS3 this weekend....If my flipping adventures go well today, I should have enough credit. I heard that there is going to be a new white one coming in early march, and that would go well with my white Wii and white 360... Don't know whether to wait or not.

Could you let us know what the keep it price is? I forgot about that, might try to do that. Will you always get the option to get it?
Could you let us know what the keep it price is? I forgot about that, might try to do that. Will you always get the option to get it?
Keep it is the full retail price on new releases. And you usually won't get the original case or instructions.

No MLB 08 THE SHOW at my GameRush (checked at lunch). Didn't even appear to have any rental copies. I will check anotherGameRush on my way home....if not, Best buy gets my money (gift cards/RZ actually)
Keep it is the full retail price on new releases. And you usually won't get the original case or instructions.
As he said, $59.99 for The Show. I have never had a problem getting the original case and instructions. (Of course, I usually do this as soon as the game is released)

Im curious can you do this for all games you rent? Rent & then decide to keep it? Sounds pretty cool...They have quite a few DS games they rent out & dont mind using my store credit...Also can you just ask if they are willing to sell it instead of renting it?

They stopped creditting you the value of the coupon a while back when they realised ppl like me were renting the 20$ games and keeping them due to the 8$ discount that the coupon gave you.

I have noticed that some older games do have buy/keep prices that are lower than retail, but I have no idea how many times the item would need to be rented before that happens, and I'm sure the # of store copies effects that option.
Just to clarify, is it the rental fee + $60 or $60 total with what you paid for the rental included?
Rental + $60 (hence the reason I used a free rental)

In the past (year or so ago) it was the price less the rental fee, but they changed that policy

racaido - yes, you can do this for any game or movie
Picked up Patapon and God of War for the PSP today.
Does BB rent psp games? im interested in those 2 games

wait, so i could just do the keep it price if i wanted to buy games at my blockbuster? thats amazing, cause my bb has crap games for sale and i need to burn some credit.
