ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Oh, yeah, I saw DQS and Bully myself several days back and just forgot about it. I'll add those in. I didn't see HotD but I'll add that as well. DQS is not available for rent at either BB or Hollywood which is very strange. I mean, my local Hollywood has 3 copies of Manhunt for the Wii for rent - yet they can't stock one DQS? WTF?

I found Phantasy Star for the GC and the fire engine game for the PS2 today, along with a used and mint Cold Fear (the gf wanted this for the survival horror collection, but it got kind of mixed reviews so we couldn't justify spending "real money" on it) and surprisingly complete King of Fighters 2007...amongst many other things (all in the car still, since I'm dorming with no consoles). I also grabbed two of the King of Fighters 02/03, as every store seemed to have a mint copy of it -- with the $7 pricetag + BOGO + $2-per-$1 flips coupled with the $15 resale value on Half, its a pittance to pick it up along with another game to pretty much cover the cost of the original Darkness that paid for it and a stack of 3-5 other games. I also found a mint XenoSaga III that immediately got 550 Goozex points (actually...do I have that one, or am I missing it? I might have to cancel that...)

I took the GC flier to Best Buy and picked up three copies of The Darkness, burning half of my gift card, with one more from Sears (Only $10 with 110% pricematch). I also snapped up a GameCube Modem and a Marvel/Forza pack at GS for $21 total.

Yeah, buying before a dump day sucks, but I can just return anything that drops in value.

Tomorrow. I think that the used price of The Darkness was $15 before the ad though, so I'd be suprised if it went up past that after the ad is over.

Alright, I just came back from my local Gamerush. I signed up for a new account. They offered me credit either on my account or that amount transfered to a Gamerush card. I decided for the card, in case someone else were to use it. But, I forgot to ask (and maybe someone here can answer), is there a service fee for that? Like do they take a couple bucks or a percentage off my trade to transfer it to a card?

Also good decision on the card, if you get it on your account then your stuck using the credit at just that store while the card is accepted at all BB/GR.

No, Best Buy/Sears do not price match used games as they do not sell used games. There is a GameCrazy flier with The Darkness (new) for $14.99...however, the promo ends tomorrow.

I flipped 2 Assassian's Creed's for $35 each and 2 The Darkness's for $25 each...

making a GR Hannah Montana Gift Card with $127.20 after taxes included.

I made a little over $50 something off them. Bought the Assassian's for $23.29ea and Darkness's for $11.69ea

I think I want a PS3 but idk...

Darkness from GameCrazy....and Creed from GameStop....used my Edge Card and then the 10% off coupon that expires on 3-28-08....the coupon isnt suposed to stack with the edge, it doesnt ring up with it, some workers know and some dont. I just go in and ask if it will work (knowing it wont) and if they say yes then i use it and when it wont ring up they manually enter it since they already told me it would work.

The Edge Card stacks with everything at Game Stop. Whoever tells you that it won't stack with the 10% off coupon is wrong. The Edge Card isn't considered to be an "offer" or "coupon", so it will always stack with everything.
 
I think what he was trying to say is that the 10% coupon won't work with the "used game of the week" deal, when I got....*cough* 20 motorstorms not once did it work without being manually done.

The edge card works with everything, but I don't the coupon works with the used game of the week deal, unless you get an employee that will do it for ya.
 
Meh - it was my plan to trade in an Avatar and Bee Movie game before any possible drops but I just couldn't get motivated to make the 40 mile round trip drive to do so (and get a couple of other things done at a Gamestop near there where I have old preorders too). I'll take my chances and hopefully the values will hold this week.
 
I went into GR today to trade in Fifa 07 for $25 and Call of Duty 4 for $35, and pick up Patapon for the PSP for $20. The manager asked me if I would rather buy it used, and I said sure, but I didn't think that they had it because I didn't see it out. He searched for it and then went into his office to grab it before it had even been stickered. It was $14.99, which meant I also got another game on top of that for free. I couldn't find any games that I wanted for PSP, 360, or Wii for $15 except for Madden 07 (360), so I picked that up. It's the Hall of Fame Edition which is pretty cool.

Thanks to the manager, I saved $5 and got another free game on top of that. If only I was a lucky bastard that could find Pikmin 2 at my store. I'm checking the other BB's and GR's near me for it, but I'm not too hopeful. That thing is unattainable for a cheap price.

Keep checking at any BB (not just GR) you can find. I've found three in since January, because they are converting former rentals into PRP. Keep track of which stores have Pikmin 2 for rental and wait until they convert it.

I got this and Pikmin 2 for $14.99 (Shrek was stickered at $14.99, but was actually $16.99 and had to be manually adjusted). Technically, I got Pikmin 2 for $6 after trading in Shrek the Third.\\:D/
 
I noticed a copy of Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance II (PS2) at my local BB for rent. Does anyone know if I can buy it outright? I think if I rent it and keep it beyond, I will end up paying the buy price + the rental cost.

I imagine the managers may have some control over rental games, and whether they pull copies for sale or such. Can anyone enlighten me on this process. I would like to grab that one as cheap as possible.
 
Patapon for $14.99 is a nice deal....I wish my stores had some decent PSP stuff. I was almost thinking of upgrading my fat to a slim, but I still resist.

Hopefully Rainbow Six Vegas holds at $15 today.....and MAdden 08 still gets something decent. I keep forgetting to trade those two in.

You can try asking them what the Buy-It-Now (BIN) price is, but it's usually going to be a little more than what the games sells for used. That, and you have to pay for the rental as well.

Yep. I actually got into a bit of a row with the manager at an out-of-the-way BB that I'm probably never gonig back to over this. They had a Pikmin 2 for rent, I asked to buy it, and they said I would have to rent it, keep it, and pay the cost...and the cost would be $15 minus the rental price of $8 (!).

But then they told me I couldn't take the case. I insisted I should be able to, as I had no intention whatsoever of bringing it back, but they refused, and said I would have to come back after I was sold the game to collect the case...which was utter bullshit, since the store is about half an hour away from me.

They told me this after they had rung me up...and then I looked at my reciept to see that the cost to own was $14.99, not the cost of the game. Effectively, the guy who was ringing me up was chill (aside from being a cock and refusing to scan games to check their prices when I've seen them in other Blockbusters for less), the other clerk up front kept looking over his shoulder and acting like a bitch, telling him he couldn't let me take the game case, etc., and then the manager was finally called up and acted like the biggest cunt of all. She kept refusing to sell me the game outright or to adjust it so I would be paying the price I was told that I would be paying, and was actually rather rude about it.

I remarked about their horrible customer service on the way out and the manager kept repeating "He just made a mistake," but, really, mistakes happen, thats fine, but its really attitude that counts, and everyone at that store was just unpleasant and rude.

Actually, all Blockbuster's that still have a copy of DQS for sale should be converting it over to rental in the next couple of days. We switched our new retail copy over to rental a week ago.

Yeah, problem is my local store (where, clearly, I prefer renting since all other BB's are 10+ miles away) doesn't sell any new games besides the recent preorder deals (SSBB, GTA, Mario Kart).

Is there anything noted on my account or shown to the employee if I go register to trade at several GameRush's in the same day?

How about if I flip the same game at several GameRush's in one day (just a single copy per store)?

Will GameRush take more than one copy of a game at a time? What's the limit?

What else do I have to worry about so I don't get my trading account banned?

Has anyone that has had their account put on hold/banned had any luck getting it reinstated?
 
F1 Championship Edition PS3 gets $30. Should be getting to $14.98 at Target soon (I found one store that already did it, but a Target 10 miles away still had it $41.98)

3.limit is 2 as it says on the trade agreement, but some get away with more
4.nothing, maybe selling bootleg games or printed covers (hah)

I'm going by a couple of BB's that I don't normally go to on thursday to help out a friend, so I'll stop by and check them out.

Do normal BB's participate in the BOGO free? I think a BB by me has a bunch of used games that I think are less than $15.

Does Call of Duty 4 still trade in for $35. I'm trading in my friend's copy to get him Fifa 08 soon, so I need to know how much extra cash he needs to give me.

Oh well, I'm taking them with me to a far away BB and will report back what I find when I get home. I'll trade Avatar there but save the other two for a GC price match.

Viewtiful Joe (free.. only non-sports game that cheap, rang up 2.97)

Different stores. Also saw Valk Profile 2, Perfect dark zero, Kameo, Arc the Lad, Drakenguard 2, shrek 3rd (360), Ninety-nine nights and a handful of other okay games that qualify for the 14.99 deal.
 
Well, I hit up the 3rd closest Blockbuster to me (about 10 miles away) and good news - had no problems trading there and I even still had an active trading account (which is wierd because it has been a *long* time since I've traded there). It is possible this store wasn't included in the ones my "hold" was put on but if so that was just an oversight I'm sure as this one should be in the same district as the others. Or it's possible my "hold" was lifted though I haven't checked at my local store - it isn't worth the trouble of asking, really...

I traded Avatar and Bee Movie and will take Top Spin (and another Bee Movie I found right after at Target) to Gamecrazy some time this week. My extra Spiderman FoF will get returned to Target (unless anyone here wants it for cost).

Oh and they had nothing at all worth buying for the B1G1.

Im still trying to figure out if I should go try to open up a trade account at a blockbuster that I never opened 1 up at before! I cant trade in at any blockbuster other than the first one that I opened up a trade account at! Of course I can always drive out to the franchise ones that give half as much as the corporate locations. I don't even have much to trade, but I liked having the ability to go to which ever one I wanted.

You can seriously talk to DM and they will take all the nonsense holds off. I have like a list of 10 things that the first bb has to do before I trade. A big warning message flashes up and scares the s*it out of the hourly employee.

I guess I did ruin it for myself when I traded in enough games in 1 or 2 days to have enough credit for the ps3 bundle! Should of been alot more careful, then again all I wanted was the ps3 bundle.
 
Stopped by 2 BB (1 GR, 1 non-GR) on Tuesday. Both just got shipments of :360: Elites in on Monday.

The non-GR BB had preorders signs up for GTA IV, with the Special Editions pictured on the bottom half of the flyer.

Also noticed that a used copy of :ps3: Heavenly Sword was stickered at $34.99. Maybe the new copies will drop to $39.99 soon?
