ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Oh, I should also add that I saw some more new games at this (non-GR) store, including the first PSP game I've ever seen: God of War of course. They also had Army of Two, PGR4 and a few others - I'll add them to the OP for us GR-impaired people ;). And they still had DQS for sale and not for rent.

You can also find Pychonauts at many big lots on PC for $4 to $6.

A few pages back I wondered if you have to trade 3 games exactly to get the $5 bonus (if your store participates). I traded 4 and got no bonus a month after I traded 3 and got one. Anyhow...

Today I went in with 3 games and indeed got the extra $5 (got $27 for Avatar 360). So heads up on that.

Wow at Perfect Dark being $1, I hope you kept it...I've never played the game but in my mind even crappy old maddens are worth more then $1 (even if its just for the case).

Anyone know if Motorstorm held this week? I found another one under my bed, damn.

That's interesting. A store by me has had the $5 bonus for months now, but last week I traded in four games and no bonus was applied. If I find anything else worth taking in, I'll try trading them in three at a time. Thanks for the heads up!

the store by my house will do the $5 bonus if you trade in 3 games....but if you trade 4 or more they wont? Maybe their system will only do it for 3 games...no more than 3

I traded it, it fetched me $6 with the bonus. I should call another store and see what the TIV is straight away. It's possible that the $5 wasn't applied to that for some reason or another. I'd ask the employees at my BBV, but they don't seem to know they do the bonus.

I'm almost positive that it trades for $6 but since it sells for $9.99 the bonus isn't applied to it (check the CAG wiki for information on how the bonus works).
 
i saw army of two ps3 and bought rainbow six vegas 2 for ps3 at a non-gr bb yesterday. thought i would share that for io if you want to update the op with it.

Bought the following at the B1G1 sale...

Everything was in great shape and complete (original cases!). Admittedly, I picked up The Guy Game just because it's banned and rare, and I don't honestly plan on keeping it. I'm not even sure it's on the BC list. :)

It was banned after they found out one of the girls featured in the game was actually 17. Most stores pulled it from the shelves and sent them back to the manufacturer.

Retailers were supposed to stop selling them because one of the girls in the game is supposedly underage, but of course, some of them didn't. I haven't really paid attention to any games other than the 360 ones, but I'm sure there are a few around at my Blockbusters as well.

all 9.99 games trade for $6 and all 14.99 games trade for $8. with CA tax i lose some change with the 14.99 games, but the 9.99 games i make an extra dollar something. pretty much an even transfer from bb to gc credit.

Or you could trade in the $6 games separately on two different value cards at GR and cash them out.

Tried to trade in Madden 08 (PS2) yesterday, but I don't have a case and manual for it. Do any BB/GR stores take just the disc in trade?
 
I picked up a Guy Game ages ago to cash out some credit...turns out it has no half.com listing and my eBay auction was closed, and Goozex stopped allowing it as a tradeable, so it looks like its going in my collection whether I want it or not.
 
So, are there any good flips coming up? The Darkness is over and it appears to be the twilight hour for the Marvel/Forza bundle as well (as it only gets $27 total).

Or should I just start buying all the $9.99 BOGO game and trading them back for $6 each?

Some of the Target clearance games are much better flips than the $9.99 BOGO games.
 
I like this sale. It allowed me to pick up a couple of games I've stared out every time I go in there but don't want to pull the trigger on when there are new PS3 games out or on the horizon.

It goes for roughly $35 shipped on Amazon pretty regularly.
 
Went to Blockbuster at Lunch. Grabbed these Xbox titles:

Psychonaughts (9.99)
MK: Armageddon (9.99)
Serious Sam 2 (4.99)
Armed & Dangerous (4.99)

and the guy tries to charge me $20 + tax. Said they're supposed to scan them that way. I finally talked him into doing it right, but he acted like he was doing me a favor!

Also, for some reason he asked all the customers before me (who were middle aged women) if they wanted to pre-order GTA4. And he didn't mention it when I got to the register.

Yeah, I had some problems with Amazon a while back (people ordering things and changing their minds, or finding it cheaper, and filing claims instead of asking for refunds...getting refunds and keeping items). So no more 'zon for me.

Yea he did the 9.99 and 4.99s together so you would only get the 4.99 free. i had to tell my cashier to do it the right way too.

When the promo first started, the first Blockbuster I hit was not yet aware of it that Tuesday morning. As the clerk ruffled through the promo materials, I was reading the literature over the counter and it specifically said to scan two games, then the promo barcode, then two games, then the promo, etc. So, yeah, that guy obviously didn't do it in the right order. Just passing that along to people keep an eye out for it. Same thing has happened to me at least twice already.

There is a Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance PS2 at a Blockbuster near me. How much is this as well as Guy Game PS2? I am still looking to find a few more games, there is a complete Klonoa 2 (GBA) for $10 at a BB near me, couldn't find anything to complement it. None of the stores will let me return Chromehounds, I really did not want this game.
