ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

I did the GS trade 3 games (2 brawls and 1 SMG) in and they made me put down a pre-order for a game, even though I already have paid for MKW @ GR. Oh well, i'll cancel it later. Also got a edge card finally, and it paid for itself, also got $12 back from the 3 NBA07's and 3 Genji's I bought w/o the edge card. Bought 2 more genji's and have $60 something left in credit, might check out another GS tomorrow and see if they have any more genji's and nba 07's or eye of judgements to finish off the credit.

It was a regular BB. I went in and just handed them the disk, figured if they ask for everything else I had it in the car. The sales clerk kept looking at the box because it said "Eye" included, but she took it to the manager and he said they'd take just the disc. I don't know if they are aware of the cards or mat.

Yea, I kinda did feel bad because they are never going to sell it, but I really wanted an Eye and there's no better way then to profit by purchasing one.
 
Whats eye of judgement's TIV this week, I need some money to pay off GTA4, and as much as I hate to do it, EOJ is all I have to trade in.

Blockbuster in Brick, NJ got in both Wii system and Xbox 360 'pro'.
They have about 4 of the 360's, they had 2 wii's.
I got me one, woo hoo.
May finally keep this one. resold the last two.
After a few days of flipping NBA 07's, Gengi, Overlord, F1, and a Folklore the Wii only cost me about $140.
Hmmm, should i sell it and use cash towards the next big flip or complete the trifecta of next gen systems.
Have two blockbusters I haven't flipped NBA or Gengi at yet so will hit them up next to build up some more credit for all the extras needed to play the wii.
they were teasing me with the preorder on Guitar Hero Aerosmith.

You don't necessarily have to put it toward the preorders. Some stores are shady and remove the poster/tri-wing that has the bonus for any 3 next gen game trades. The tri-wing also has the promo for the $30 extra for system trade ins so just keep an eye out for that.

If they do make you put it towards some preorders just put it on there and cancel it. Nothing they can do about it.

Just went to a BB to check on Wii's, no luck. However, I did pick up Pikmin. Got charged rental price until 5/1, then it would be mine. How much extra is it to keep?
The guy said if I buy it, it would it $9.99, but is that on top of the rental price?
 
Well, a pretty good day for me. I managed to pick up 3 Wii's at various NON-GR locations in the Long Beach / South Bay area. There's still a few left at the Rendondo Beach, Lawndale, and Bellflower locations if any SoCal CAG's are interested.

I also managed to flip some credit over to GS, bringing me up to 7 copies of SSBB to GS locations. Many of the locations would not allow me to trade 3 straight copies so I used the games from the B1G1 promo last month as a filler. Amazingly, I did not lose any credit as many of the games that were 14.99 + Free 14.99 game traded in around 8 bucks each.

Still no NBA07's to be found as well.

Grabbed 2 NBA 07's already, just need to nab a pair of gengi and possibly a folklore or f1. I'll wait to trade until after Friday's coupon drops, hopefully something good will come to add onto this awesome week.

Pikmin 1 or 2? The $9.99 price is on the receipt - they'll charge the credit card associated with your account that amount - the rental price you paid to rent it isn't included in that.

It's weird that stores have different "keep it" prices.
 
It's Pikmin 1. So total to keep the game is over $18. Ugh..maybe I should have asked here before I went to pick it up.

Weird..cant find Folklore on the website. Yes, I know about "Show" backordered items. It can't find th game at all. Guess I'll just show up at a couple of store to check.

I've been busy with class, but even if I'm not doing 40+ copies a title right now doesn't mean I'm not doing 10+ copies of 4 different titles. ;)

I just kunai'd 5 sets of nba 07 and genji, bought a Wii which someone returned 5 minutes prior still unopened for some odd reason. Already have it sold for $300 and still have $171 in credit left. I only spent $165 in cash and it paid for GTA IV, MKW, Wii and $171 in credit left over!!!

Whee, found a GS with EoJ + Camera for $30 (no mat); uses the 25% off coupon and flipped the game for $36 at BBV. time for more last minute stuff tonight before the promo ends!
 
Uhm, thanks for the asshole answers guys. Everytime I take the stickers off, the cover ends up getting ripped off. Doesn't matter how slow I go, the stickers just stick way to much. Why can't GS learn and use stickers that come off easily?

use a little bit of wd40 it works really good @ removing sticky residue.

Be careful if you use this on the cover art (under the plastic) as if you use too much then it is fade the cover art. Again if you flip it no big deal but if you want to keep it be careful.
 
Is there a list for Trade in Values at BB? I need to get rid of Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, Crackdown, and FF3, and it seems like trade ins there are high.

DarkRider23 - you were talking about stickers on the cover art? THAT sucks. All the games I've gotten at EB/GS have just had stickers on the outside plastic which is bad enough because even there they don't come off cleanly. But I just get enough off (with my fingernail usually) so that it will scan (since they put one on the front and one on the back over the bar code area). I certainly don't worry about some sticker residue when trading them into BB though.

Now, for ones I'm keeping I use all the new cases I got via swapping the cases on (new) flipped games for the game cases my old Gamerush was about to throw away. I have a nice stockpile of several brand new cases for each current and last-gen system. Then I'll use the sticker-residue case for a future trade-in from a new game.

But stickers on the artwork seriously sucks... I wouldn't use any "product" on those as you are more likely to make it look even worse.
 
Well 4 Genji, 6 NBA07, 3 Folklore, 2 F1s later...

I also paid for some kid's game with my credit (some 2k8 game). I asked for $28 (price was $29.99). He saved $5 after tax, I got cash, the store got what they would have either way. Kunai said it was good, and he rested. Until tomorrow's coupon...
 
Went to a local GS today and told me that the next coupon is 360.

I hope so. 360 flips are easier than the limited selection of the ps3.

I Hope they open early at our blockbuster game rush for GTA IV, Ive stopped going to gamestop, the trade-in credit @ GameRush is at least double what you would get at GS(On many Games). The only thing that sucks is that you have to wait till Friday for the new releases on games. Still Im never going back to gamestop.
