ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

[360] Conan - $15

I can't complain too much because I got 8 hours out of it and I enjoyed 6 of those 8 hours, but I really wish I knew what I was getting into (i.e. that the TIV had dropped and that some people absolutely hate this game because of the crappy last few levels).

Funny story / cautionary tale, just FYI:

very long-winded, so I'll put it behind a spoiler.

So, I bought a second PS3/2 Rock Band guitar at my local BB on Friday afternoon. I get home after work and put it together and test it out. Right off the bat, the motion sensor used for going into overdrive doesn't work at all, which sucks, but I figure I'll deal with it through the weekend (to play with friends), then deal with returning it or shipping it off on Monday. Then, a few songs later, the guitar just completely stops working. So, I try new batteries and mess with it a bit but nothing works. I decided to just go back to Blockbuster and see if they'll swap it out for me.

I know that technically, you're supposed to go through the manufacturer for defects like this, but that places like Best Buy and Circuit City will often swap it out for you. This being Blockbuster, I was worried they'd be hard asses about it. Sure enough, they were; they basically told me there was nothing they could do and that I would need to go through the manufacturer to have it replaced. I totally understood, but was still a little pissed. The manager even called her boss about it and got the same answer.

So, I decided I would try to be sneaky and I headed over to my *other* local BB, like ten minutes away. Lucky for me, they were nice enough to exchange it for me. At first, the clerk started to tell me that they couldn't take it back, then he stopped mid-sentence and said "well, let me go make sure". He goes to talk to somebody in the back and comes back with another guitar and lets me swap it out; doesn't even ring up a return or anything. So, I was pretty happy in the end.

Then, I get home and I'm in the middle of putting the guitar together when I get a call from the store I originally bought it from (and since I recognized the number, I didn't answer.... assuming they'd found out what I did and were mad at me or something). Turns out, they were calling me to tell me that they had gotten approval to swap it out and I could come back and they were sorry for the hassle. So, then I kinda felt crappy but I went ahead and called them and told them I'd already exchanged it.

I made some snarky remark about how I'd bought the bundle there, and how "now I know not to buy stuff like this here..." as I left the first store, all pissy. So, I'm pretty sure they must have realized that losing my business would be really bad for their store with all the crap I buy in there. I guess they have no idea that most the stuff I trade in there was bought elsewhere for much cheaper.

Anyway, long boring story, but thought I'd share my experience as an FYI.
Found a Pikmin 2 today. It has no manual tho. Another BB had a Pikmin 1 & 2 as well but they were only for rent.
If it's for rent, you can also buy it :)

I'd suggest doing the 2 for 10$ rental deal, that way you cut off a total of 5$ when you get both. That's what I did for Pikmin 2/Fatal Frame 1

Explain this. Do you rent it & then they charger you $15 if you tell them you lost it or what?

You can usually do this right in the store when you rent it. On your receipt is a "keep it" price, just tell them you want to keep it.

Thanks. Damn, I wish I had known this

Just thought I'd mention this so noone else has to endure the painful search for Pikmin manuals;

I just ordered manuals for both Pikmin and Pikmin 2 from the Nintendo Online Store. I know that most people are wary about ordering manuals from them because the website states that copies of the originals may be sent. Long story short, I ordered manuals for both Pikmins ($6 shipped) and ended up with crisp original manuals for both. Completeness for $6 shipped :bouncy:.

The BB in Venice, FL just put out a bunch of games for sale AND they're doind a B2G1F. Didnt get anything tho. Only noticable thing was Suikoden IV for 6.99

My local stores all had Wii's in stock. Unfortunately, they're forcing a bundle w/ 1 controller, a 1 month gamepass, and Smash Bros for $371.

I think i'm going to hold off. I want a Wii again, but i dont want to have to buy an extra controller or a crappy game.

:whistle2:s. Crappy game? If it was Ninja Reflex or something, OK. But anyway, I would probably pass on it because of the gamepass (what, that costs $31?) but the extra controller is OK (if you don't already have a Wii) and SSBB is a must-buy anyway. There was a time when I was hoping my GR store would get Wii controllers in (they never did despite my preorder for one) so I could give them my money (well, credit, anyway)!

And Overlord is $14.99, eh? I'll have to track down that copy I traded in for sure now ;).

I asked about that today and the lady there said you don't get the cover or manual if you do the keep it now thing. I was like what about the display box for the game and she was like no you only get the game and the crappy blockbuster cover that it comes with when you rent it.

I'm sure you payed more for those manuals than you'd ever get in trade-in value.:dunce:

Have you checked the going rate for Pikmin 2? I just sold a manual-free copy on amazon two weeks ago for $70, after paying $10 earlier that day.
I'm sure you payed more for those manuals than you'd ever get in trade-in value.:dunce:
No but if he put them on Ebay he could get an extra $20

Sometimes $3 in cash for a complete game is more satisfying than $6 in credit. He paid for peace of mind. It's not world peace, but it hits close to home.
The CE of Stranglehold might still be $35 TIV, because that's how much I got a couple weeks ago. Also, I checked today, and it was $65 used at my local BB, so it could still be $35 TIV.
$19.50 to $35.00 isn't bad.
Good call. Stranglehold CE (x360) still trades for $35 and is a nice flip with the GS coupon.

I noticed today that a lot of games had price markdowns so I bet trade in prices will go down on quite a few games tomorrow.
Prices I remember:
360
Timeshift-35
VF5 -35
Blacksite 51 -35
Overlord - 15
THPG - 25
MLB2k7 -15
Stranglehold -30

PS3
MLB the show 07 -20

There were a bunch more but that's all I can remember.

I also picked up Zach & Wiki new for 19.99.

On the money :).
I noticed this today too and it kinda makes me worry that they picked up on this price drop so quickly.....

TIV
All PS3
Madden 08 $26
NCAA Football $16
Tony Hawk Project 8 $22

Pretty good value for THP8 considering its over almost 2 years old and PG is clearance at some targets for around $13.

I'll be calling at least four BBs tomorrow to find out if they got the Dual Shock 3 controllers. I am really wanting to get one with my value card. Tuesday's aren't necessarily all that bad of a day in this case. . . since it's the day many of the stores around me get their week's videogame shipment.

Forza 2 - $15
MUA - $8

$13+tax after coupon into $23 credit- picked up 7 copies.

Also, HOUR OF VICTORY WILL DROP TOMORROW.

It sells for $19.99 at GR and they're giving $22 for it.
I noticed this today too and it kinda makes me worry that they picked up on this price drop so quickly.....
im worried too, I hope flipping wont come to an end

I'm sure this has already been asked before, but will Blockbuster/Gamerushes be getting in the special edition of GTA4? When I pre-ordered they only asked which system I wanted it on.
I'm sure this has already been asked before, but will Blockbuster/Gamerushes be getting in the special edition of GTA4? When I pre-ordered they only asked which system I wanted it on.
yup...my blockbuster is gettin the special edition version of GTA4...you should ask them which version you preordered...

Any good flips from TRU? I still have my $25 gift card left over from Super Mario Galaxy. I'd rather get GTA at Blockbuster since it's in walking distance of my house.

Noticed on gamestop.com that Viking (used - 360) dropped to $40 ($26 with discounts). Might be worth a flip if it's getting $35.

Well they brought down the hammer on these:

:360:
Timeshift- 22
VF5 - 22
Blacksite 51 - 22
Overlord - 8
THPG - 15
Stranglehold - 19
Still

20 for Fifa 07
6 for madden 06
Hours of victory 28.50
you sure with hour of victory? The previous quote was 22-23 so it's extremely impressive if the TIV went up despite BB lowering the price to buy the game in store.
