ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
Noticed on gamestop.com that Viking (used - 360) dropped to $40 ($26 with discounts). Might be worth a flip if it's getting $35.
Nice call:
TIV
360 Viking $35
America's Army $22

Did the TIV drop on History Channel: Battle of the Pacific? MY BB won't give TIVs over the phone and I'd like to know before I go buy it and try to trade it in. Thanks.

Call a different store maybe?
There is only one store within 90 miles of me. Thanks though.
As long as its a corporate store, they should all have the same TIV's. Just pick one out of the phone book. In my experience GR's will give me TIV over the phone but regular BB won't.

I just traded that in yesterday and got $28.50. That's as up to date as I can give you. Not sure if it was included in today's price drops though.

How does only having one store near you have anything to do with you not calling another store? I've called stores 50 miles away looking for a 60 gig ps3, they dont care where your from and they don't ask. Just look up another store if you don't see something posted on here, otherwise it just looks like your either
A. being lazy
or
B. begging another CAG to do the leg work

Man, I was just going to go there after work and flip some copies from my local gamestop...:bomb:

Hopefully, I can still get away with the HC:BFTP...;)

Hello, I was wondering if someone could give me some information on how Blockbuster's game trade-in program works. I'm in Canada, just called them up and was having a hard time getting information from the employee. I first asked if they were selling GTA4 and she said yes. Then I asked if they offer a a trade-in program and she said if you bring in 4 games that they retail at $19.99 or higher, I can get the game (GTA4) for free. Do they mean $19.99 for brand new, or used? And I'm assuming they would also have a straight trade-for-credit option as well? I want to trade in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and I've heard it's worth $28 there. It just seemed a little confusing to me. Can anyone clear any of this up? Thanks very much.
Did MLB07 for the PS3 drop yet? There's a bunch of copies for $9.98 at my local target that are begging to be traded!
I doubt it as they were selling it for $19.99 as of yesterday. I would guess that the TIV is 9-12. Of coarse you could call.

I was going to suggest you ask in the Canadian regional board as Blockbuster operates differently up there and we won't be able to give you much advice here. But then I saw that you did that already and someone told you to ask here. They were wrong ;).

Search back a ways in the Canadian forum, though, as I know they were discussing the "trade 3 or 4 games get 1 free" type deals in the past. Blockbuster in the U.S. has never had anything like that (just trade 2 get one for $29.99 and the like). I'll add a post to your thread there.

Also, I'll update the OP with trade-in values shortly. Apparently it was a busy week for the trade-in value adjuster guy. Seems like he's finally doing his job ;).

Hey guys I was just where people are finding HC: battle of the pacific cheaply (target?). My blockbuster finally got every system Wii(sold out before I got there) /360/PS3 and it looks like they've dedicated a whole wall to game merchandise including new games and accessories and from the empty space they left it looks like they're about to get in a ton of new stuff. Anyway if you could help me on my quest for a Wii it'd be much appreciated.

Oh, man, I didn't quite believe it when people here said Blockbuster was expanding their game sales and smaller stores were getting Wiis and accessories and the like.

So today I finally decided to mosey on in to my local store. They had 2 Wii boxes right up on the counter (just to be sure I asked and 2 are still available). Then I noticed they had taken 3 whole sections of the new release wall and devoted that to new games/accessories/systems. The Wii section had more Wii boxes and cases denoting all the accessories, including the Wii Zapper and component cables. The 360 section included several games, controllers, 1600 points cards, etc (no 360 boxes though they did say they had them for sale). The PS3 section had the 40GB PS3 and games and accessories. The games are the usual suspects listed in the OP and carried by the bigger stores already. As others have noted they also started renting DS games. They are also renting and selling Blu-Ray.

But, man, I just couldn't believe it. None of this stuff was there 2 weeks ago (or whenever I was in there last time). This is awesome as this place is a mere 1/2 mile from my house (whereas Gamesotp, Gamecrazy, and all the big box retailers are 8+ miles away). What sucks is that, as far as I know, I still have the "hold" on trading there. So this is my dilemma - do I ask about that and if it is still in place resume my quest to have it cleared or do I leave well enough alone since I can still trade at several other stores? It would be convenient to trade here of course and I'd feel better buying stuff from them if I could trade also. But now that I actually have an outlet for my credit (no need to save it to pick up 1600 points cards all the way across the country while on business travel ). But then all the stores where I'm still in good standing are ones that I can make runs of trading multiples (one per store) since they are near the places where I'm likely to find cheap clearance stuff. I wouldn't want some overzealous manager checking around the entire area and making things worse. Not that I have done anything on nearly the scale others have . My total credit obtained in March and April is only about $250 - hell, djkunai does that at one stop!

It is also very hard to just let a Wii sit there unbought (haven't seen one in store since Christmas) but the hassle of selling that combined with the lower prices and higher ebay fees is holding me back. Besides, I actually want to use my credit on gaming stuff for me and my family - this was never meant to be a money-making scheme. I certainly have sold the occasional thing in the past so that I am pretty close to break-even - but $250 is a big chunk of what I have left :whistle2:k... Oh yeah, the Wii's were tagged $249.99 with no indication of a bundle - so it sucks some stores do that but, apparently, not others.

Oh, and no dice on the inexperienced clerks giving me my Mario Kart preorder early - they said Sunday. Hey, I figured it was worth a shot (though they probably don't even have them yet).

Thanks for the tip. Anyway, for what it's worth I managed to trade in GT5 Prologue for $28 credit, paid $5 at Best Buy with a deal. I hope that qualifies me as a cheap ass gamer!

Jumper is still holding @ $22 if you can find. Going for $11 plus at GS right now. Gotta pick up another HC: Battle for the pacific tomorrow.

Does Blockbuster only change trade-in values one day a week, or is it everyday? In other words, would these recent TIVs be good tomorrow too?

TIV's traditionally change on Tuesdays, sometimes late at night on Monday.

local bb that had no systems before had wiis, 360s, and ps3s in stock on monday. sucky thing is they were bundles. the wii ended up costing $400 so i didn't even bother asking what came with it.

1 month gamepass, 2nd wiimote & Super Smash Bros.
If anyone gets a price for :360: Orange Box, that'd be rad. :)
I'd be interested in giving you equivalent BBV credit for it (or a little extra).
1 month gamepass, 2nd wiimote & Super Smash Bros.
It's actually up to the store with what is included in the bundles. I think the memo suggested the game pass, 2nd wiimote, and wii play. However it could vary as to whatever the store has in stock.

Actually from what we've seen trade in values change at exactly midnight eastern, 9pm PST. Hence whey some say Tuesday and some say late Monday.

I would agree with this. Cause think about it. It's not like the employees have ANY clue about TIV's or basically anything video game related. It's all handled via the computers, which probably all get updated at a specific time.
Anyone have trade values for:

Halo 3 or Devil May Cry 4 (360)? I have an extra copy of Halo3 and DMC is not my type of game.
I got $35 for DMC4 (360) last week.
Now I am not sure...is it worth chaning my pre-order of GTA4 for the special edition?
I dunno, the duffel bag looks kinda cool, but I've never been into special edition stuff. I know the box, soundtrack, and keychain will just sit in my closet forever. $30 extra is a pretty big premium over the regular edition.... I'm just gonna save that $30 and buy a DS game or something.

At my store in manchester, CT, we got like 2 wii, 4 360, and a ps3. store manager bought both the wiis to sell on ebay...

glad i put in my two weeks last weekend, its kind of BS

Thats where I'm at too, I would pay more for extra content but thats about it. No way am I going to drop 30 bucks on stuff that will sit under my bed forever.

That being said, most limited edition things end up used at gamestop which is where I pick them up. Back with the PS3 coupon, I got DMC 4 special edition used for the same price as the regular edition used and it came with the anime dvd and soundtrack. I guess I'm just a sucker for the metal tins
I'd be interested in giving you equivalent BBV credit for it (or a little extra).
Could be a possibility. I added it on Goozex, but I realize I'll probably only play it for a short while before it gets added to the collection in favor of GTA4. I had meant to put it on hold, but alas, Goozex was too fast for me.

I'll keep that in mind.
Let's see-
Pick up 3 copies of Brawl for $165.
Trade them for $135 GS credit.
Buy 10 copies of Darkness with that $135.
Trade Darkness back to GR for $220.

In the beginning you start with $165 n GR credit, and in the end you're left with $220 in GR credit- no cash out of pocket. Even better, if you're looking to just get GS credit, do this.

Pick up 3 copies of Brawl for $165.
Trade them for $135 GS credit.
Buy 2 copies of the Darkness for $25.
Trade the Darkness back to GR for $44.

Do this, and you get $110 in GR credit moved to GS, $44 back to GameRush, and you make $14 in credit in the process- and all it involves is three trips. GameRush, GameStop, GameRush.
wasted gas and you would be lucky if they let you trade in two of the same game at the blockbusters here

Also noticed that Condemned 2: Bloodshot (360) is now selling used for $40 ($26 with discounts) at Gamestop. Since I picked up a copy for $55 at Gamerush just last week (unfortunately...), it's TIV is probably $35.

can somebody please verify that if you pre-order from blockbuster you get a second wheel for free? I called last night and the guy was not sure.

got the same deal as you..and im not in any way regretful of my purchase (And since im a collector..i won't be getting rid of DMC4..EVER)

Prices on eBay seem to be $250-$300 (at best) so after eBay and PayPal fees you'd be lucky to break even. If you pay sales tax you'd probably lose out. Now, for converting extra BB credit to cash that isn't a problem since break-even is OK. And your manager probably got an employee discount or something (10%?) but it still doesn't seem worth the hassle. When it's all said and done, if he's lucky, he might clear $100 but with the hassle of dealing with a buyer/packing/shipping and the potential to get ripped off.

6 months ago I probably would have bought one to lighten up on my credit. But now that it might actually be useful again I want to hold on to it. I will definitely use it to get a PS3 at some point - but I'd like to wait for a new model and not get a 40GB.

Sadly, no. If they did that I'd never have to leave my small town!
