ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

I just got back from picking up my preorder of GTA IV. Got off work at 11 so I was in Blockbuster for like 40 minutes browsing lol.

Back from Blockbuster with GTA IV!

They had closed at 11, reopened at 12. They couldn't get the system back up to take credit or gift/value cards! Ugh.
After a half hour they charged my blockbuster account $64.19 and told me to come back with the value card tomorrow to pay it.
Okey, so if i never go back to that store i'll never have to pay for it. :whistle2:k
It is one of the easier stores to flip at so I don't want to lose out in the long run.

I didn't preorder but they gave me the picture anyway. I'll hang it in the hall with the kids pictures, see how long before anyone notices.
You found his pressure point.
Now apply pressure. :)
It's okay, we got got drunk on Friday.

my local blockbuster stayed open til 1am EST. got there like 1245a. got a frame also. seemed like they only had enough for preorders. they had extra Ps3 versions tho

Picked my copy with kunai and abducted vision just a few moments ago, we were fourth in line and never did I think that there was going to be a big turn out.

Edit: Also picked up the frame they were giving out as a pre order bonus, it's not as good as the faceplate but at least it's better then what other stores are giving out.
dot com!

Some people behind us thought you were trying to pull a scam on them.
If I want to fuck you over, I'll have the goddamn decency to tell you I'm going to fuck you over. Their loss. I sold one after you guys left.

tried to trade in eye of judgment last night at 2 different blockbusters and they both claimed that they couldn't accept it without the eye. it's not in the system like that, they just look at the cover and said that they need to include the eye with it.

so much for my plan to get a cheap ps3 eye.

Well, I was up late working on playing through the end of Bioshock, so I decided to go ahead and pick up GTA at midnight, so that I wouldn't have to go by there today. Surprisingly, there were about 20 people in line and I didn't arrive til about 12:10 and was last in line. (for comparison, I picked up Mario Kart at like 12:15 and walked straight up to the counter... and that was a Saturday!) They only had one damn person on the register for most of it (even though 2 other people were working; one girl hopped on for 5 minutes or so, non-cash only). They were clearly more interested in getting their new rentals on the wall and registers closed up than getting us out the door quickly. I picked up PS3 reg. edition and the free frame. The frame is pretty lame btw; doesn't even have a hook to hang from or a stand to set it up. Doesn't look like you can even swap in your own photo very easily. Oh well, free is free.

The worst part is that I have important things going on at work so I can't be "sick" today and since I have two young children, i won't even get to pop it in until like 8 or 9 tonight. Oh well, I'll just flip through the manual here at work.

I hate each and every one of you who came in last night at midnight. We had about as many people as the Halo 3 launch there last night. I had a final at 8am today.

On an serious note though, most Gamerush's should be getting more Mario Karts for sale in with their game shipments this weeks. Just give your local store a call on their shipment day if you are looking for one.

WOOHOO! Just picked up my copy of GTAIV and got the bonus picture frame!!!

Trades:

Simpsons Game (360): $22
WWE: Smackdown vs Raw 2007 (360): $8

Noticed the used SELLING price of Conan for the 360 dropped to $20, for anyone who's interested.

:twoguns: :whee:

WOOT got my GTA! Clerk almost forgot to give me the art, so I had to ask if they had them when she was handing me the game. Noticed they had 2 360 CE behind the counter, but don't know if they were preorders or sale stock, this was at a non-GR, so a little surprising.

picked up my copy from a blockbuster non gamerush, and the manager and I almost forgot about the photo frame. good thing the other worker remembered. Now I am deciding if I should trade it in for the Special edition somewhere else since they did not have any. Is the SE GTA worth it?

That's funny, because mine did the exact same thing. She sold 3 before she realized it, but remembered it for me.

Anyway, the SE is pretty nice. I'm a sucker for cheesy extras, though. If you intend on using the stuff, def. worth it. Duffel bag makes a great gym bag. The best thing about it is that you can keep all the extras in the lockbox. So it's not extra clutter.

I need to write corporate about my experience at the BB by my campus.

I had expressed interest last week in regards to switching my preorder to the deluxe edition (which Dyeknom hit spot-on, by the way -- its contents are actually useful and compact), but they had said it was too late and had to re-allocate. I arrived early this morning to inquire about whether or not they had received any extras (and to pick up my preorder), and they had one -- that was on hold for someone who had called the night before. Phooey.

Then the manager asked me to hold on for one moment, picked up the phone, and -- oh, no, is my account flagged? Am I banned from trading and purchasing? No -- another local store has one single spare, and they're transferring it over -- just come back anytime after 1, and it will be held for you!

I returned about an hour ago and received the CE along with the framed art piece, paid for it entirely in credit.

I'm quite impressed with the customer service there.

However, I did forget to ask if anyone had traded Sega Tennis today -- did the value hold? If so, I'll flip one of my SSBB's for a couple and then pick up Kart; if not, I'll just return the SSBB and buy Kart instead.
MK may by even better, actually, if they give $35 + bonuses for the game and have a seperate TIV for the wheel. *evil grin*
I had meant to ask if they accepted the trade without the wheel, I just wish more games would come out so I could spend my credit. I think I may buy enough Wii Fit's to sleep on :)
WII SST $30
Thats a crying shame, I was hoping to rebuy that game. I guess I'll need to be patient.
WII SST $30
Thanks for the TIV. I've actually been buying a few of them new since there are absolutely no used copies in orange county. I didn't want to open them up before heading to BB/GR.:applause:

shockingly, I just may have to start spending actual money now that SSBB dropped and I burned almost all of my GS credit.

Hopefully MK gets restocked soon and involves some sweet bonuses.

As of 4/14 (OP), Half Life: Orange Box is $36 TIV.

Has this gone down? I'm looking to use this for GTA4.

*edit* I just called and luckily the girl was nice enough to give me a quote. It still gets $36.

For 360 correct?

that is what i intended on using the duffel bag for and i am sure i can find uses for the other items. thanks, i will think about it

On another note I had two games traded in to get GTA. Trade in value
Heavenly Sword $30, at Game Stop $16 and game crazy $24
Viking Battle for Asgard $36 , at Game Stop $18 and game crazy $18

so if you were looking to get rid of these games, those were the quoted prices

I picked up GTA w/ that beauty framed pic of Niko. They had a couple of Special Editions, too.

I traded in:

Godzilla Unleashed (Wii) $30 (one to watch for deals)
D&D Tatics (PSP) $18
I'm pretty sure it's Ps3. 360 games usually only get $35.
Sorry, I should've been specific. Yes, for the ps3.

Traded in two of them. I paid $14 total for both HF after using a Target gift card. Picked up the special edition GTAIV and paid 25 for that. $39 for SE GTAIV, not bad.
Nice TiV for Orange Box if you can find it below $20 at target, which is impossible here in so cal.
Nordhoff/Balboa had 6 copies while it was $29.98 and they all disappeared the next Tuesday. I'm not even sure they dropped.
Nice TiV for Orange Box if you can find it below $20 at target, which is impossible here in so cal.
Guess I was lucky to find those two @ 14.xx.

Remember to maximize B2G1, buy 3 games that are the same price (stacked with Edge, that becomes 43% off each game's list price after total).

Ie: 3 x Fatal Inertia = $74.97
After Coupon + Edge = $42.73 + tax
Trade value @ GR= $105

oh yeah...that B2G1 free deal is going to ROCK...going to have to run by my GS right after classes end tomorrow...damn...and this is hell week for me too..stupid exams and papers and finals...
If only you can find 3 FI at one store. Is this game really that rare?
I cant find it within 20 miles. LOL!
im having the same problem...no used fatal inertias or SST in my area...i hope a good flip alternative comes around before sunday....
