ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Trade-In Price Wiki

Decent run on Wednesday. Spent $259.26 in GS credit, got back $405.47 at BB with 1 more :ps3: Assassin's Creed left (that I'll probably return with another one that's coming from a SaySwap trade). :ps3: GT5 Prologue wasn't a good flip...

Wednesday TIVs
:360: Assassin's Creed - $32
:360: Turok - $32
:360: Viking - $35
:ps3: Assassin's Creed - $30
:ps3: Condemned 2 - $36
:ps3: Folklore - $30
:ps3: GT5 Prologue - $23
:ps3: Stranglehold - $36
:ps3: Viking - $36

My main GR just got in :ds: hardware after a long drought. They had 1 each of the red/black, cobalt/black, white, and black in the display case.

At a regular BB, Assassin's Creed for :360: and :ps3: were by the registers for $29.99. It says Limited Time but who knows if a price drop is in the works. Sorry for the crappy phone pics.

They also had a poster for Wii Fit preorders near the exit. The manager said it was posted on Tuesday.

Are there any good games to use with the Eye?
I dont watn to get stuck with it if BBV wont take the game without the Eye.

Downloadable games are pretty weak. I was able to flip EoJ, Assassins, and Stranglehold at the same time and sandwiched the EoJ in the middle. good luck

I inquired about the buy 2 and get 1 free sale, and one helpful associate said it will be here till sunday. Another store told me, "probably a week"
Actually this is flat out wrong.

Stores can make and force any bundle they want. There is no law governing it. Stores could sell Wii's for $500 if they wanted to. The only exception is if BB has an agreement with their distributor to not sell an item above, or below a certain price. Almost all of these agreements refer to the seller not selling below a certain price.
Doing the math on ebcalc.com, i'd still turn a profit on a Wii if I had to buy the game pass. With current flips of Assassins, Stranglehold, and No more heroes. I'd
get the wii and game pass for $148.
Would still clear a $100 profit after ebay fees.

I've already mapped out my trip for tomorrow. I should be hitting up 7 stores and coming home with at least 30 games to trade. I was already able to pick up a copy of Assassins Creed (360), History Channel (360) and No More Heroes for $52 after tax. Its only gonna net me $90 ish, but even at that rate, it equals to a Wii for less than $150.

I called a couple stores and they couldn't tell me the trade in value for Guitar Hero 3 saying "We dont have it for rent, so we cant buy it". Gamestop had the PS3 version for $30 used.
I am curious as well. When I opened a second trading account, they saw that I already had an account at the first location. Didnt cause any problems since second one was actually closer to my house. However, multiple accounts at locations farther away would look very suspicious.
they told you that you had an account at another location? I have 6 trade acconts in one city...

Ok so I know this is a stupid question but I can't find the answer anywhere. So I apologize in advance but I have a question. Do all Blockbusters take trade ins or is it only certain ones that will? Also can you trade in games for cash or only store credit?

Store credit only and blockbusters with Game Rush do trades ins. As far as I know, from reading the thread, is that some blockbusters without Game Rush also do trade ins.

Picked up:

:gc: Fire Emblem (for sale $30 shipped, CML)
:ps3: Stranglehold x 2
:ps3: Assassin's Creed
:ps3: Sega Rally Revo
:ps3: Folklore
:ps2: Nocturne (for me)
:360: Assassin's Creed x 9

That was today. Ragekod and AV can take whatever's left of the upper west-side. I'm done until I can shift the Wii I just bought.

Actually Blockbuster sent out a corporate memo about bundling the Wiis. So calling the DM will do nothing.

What store did you get Nocturne from?

As sort of a confirmation, it looks like Assassin's Creed is now $30 brand new at my GR. It seems like it will be dropping on Tuesday. Hurry and dump them!

My Blockbuster had Assassin's Creed for $30 as well. I tried to get them to look up Guitar Hero 3 (PS3) in person, but apparently it really isnt in their system. They said if i could get the upc code, they should be able to look it up. I just dont feel like calling up and reading off a barcode right now. I'll try my luck by buying a copy (worse case scenario, i'll just keep the game as I only have Rock Band for PS3)

Traded in

Eye of Judgement (minus camera)
assassin's creed X2
Sega superstar tennis
Stranglehold
Fatal Interia

Paid $104 got back $215 going to find more tomorrow but its getting harder and harder finding these games seems there are other Cags aiming for these games in my area.

Hey I was wondering how much gamerush would give me for my forza 2, marvel and halo 3. Because gamestop tried to rape me with 18 dollar halo 3. Sh*t.

Grabbed Assassin
iconxbox360.gif
, Stranglehold
iconps3.gif
, and No More Heroes
iconwii.gif
at Gamestop $51.98. 5 mintues later flipped them into $98 at Blockbuster.
Gamestop employee noticed i was buying one for each system, what can i say, I'm spoiled .
Blockbuster had the Wii for sale, so I grabbed one with credit from this and previous flips.
They did NOT require gamepass to be bought with it:applause:
Topanga. :whistle2:# You had a two-day head start.
It's cool, I bought my copy back when it first came out. Any Assassins Creed left at Topanga?

Lame. Make sure you buy AC without any exclusives. I blindly bought two ACs and one of them was Best Buy exclusive. BBV would not take it. I guess I can try to exchange for different case at GS and trade it in before Tuesday.

Oh yeah, no fking Stranglehold anywhere around here. Damn you CAGs!

Picked up a DS3, so not all that bad of a run.
If anyone gets an extra Playstation Eye, I'll pay $20 in GR credit for it shipped.
What if you just found some old PS2 eyetoy camera and traded Eye of Judgement in with that, they aren't that smart at the GR's you go to or they wouldn't let you trade in a dozen copies of the same game. Unless you planned to do something else with it.

I put my credit to good use. I bought an indiana jones hat... and some glasses with pictures of indiana jones on them. 12.99 for four glasses. 12.99 for the hat. 19.99 for a fedora... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Any games based on Movies will have good flipping values not long after they come out so keep an eye on those types of games.
Any games based on Movies will have good flipping values not long after they come out so keep an eye on those types of games.
Didn't even know it was based on a film. It just LOOKS like one of "those" games (like, say, Drake and the 99 dragons) who's sole reason to even be put into production is to be flip fodder between Gamestop and Gamerush. It's obvious by the premise alone.
Any Assassins Creed left at Topanga?
There are plenty left everywhere. I only picked up one from Topanga (to go along with the Sega Rally Revo and Stranglehold I grabbed) but they said they shipped out most of them to some other store recently.

im pretty sure he has something planned for it like sell it for cash.
im pretty sure he has something planned for it like sell it for cash.
I can't find EoJ used with camera around me, and I just want the camera so it can sit next to my 360 Vision. That's all.

I got three copies of PS3 Stranglehold at GS tonight for $48.13 after tax & Edge. They should trade for $108 total. And to think, I promised myself I was going to take a break from flipping. ;)

Anyone actually looking for Nocturne, my store has one used (if you're in the Long Beach area) at the Circle Center. Case and manual were in pretty damn good condition, as was the disc itself.

Gamestop USED game of the week Gears of War
iconxbox360.gif
$29.99
Searched thread, last quote wzs $25 trade in.
With buy 2 get 1 free and edge, it would $18 plus tax.
Not a great a flip but good enough if you need a 3rd game that will at least flip a profit.

:360: Assassin's Creed
:360: Fatal Inertia
:wii: No More Heroes
$51.75 after EDGE with tax

The 360 titles got me $67 at BBGR (who are still sold out of Mario Kart Wii), and I get to play No More Heroes over the weekend. If I don't like it, it goes in on Monday.
When I went, the one guy at Gamestop was teasing the other guy, who kept finding more games he wanted and putting them away to buy when he was off work.

TIV

PS3 Condemed 2 $36 (This is a good filler as the third item in a B2G1 scheme)

And my Gift to those of you trying to transfer credit back to GS at least those in striking distance of a +50% store:

DS Professor Laytons Curious Village gets $32 after +60%, and can be purchased new for 30$ at GR/BB
how much is Condemed 2 though? it may not be worth it
I think he's just reporting the TIV for condemed 2 and i think the DS game is used for transfering credits to gamestop. Thanks for sharing Stoned. I would do this but i go to my game rush cause they are actually helpful. I dont think its just mine but i think all GRs can special order almost any game that they dont carry.

nevermind, i forgot GR doesnt have great used sales like GS

Eye of Judgement doesnt even have a used store locater option on the website? I called 2 stores and they said no used without even looking the game up. This game is out for me.

It shows up in their internal search database for used. Call and ask if any stores around the area have a used copy.

Well, the GS coupon this week is 25% extra on DS/PSP trade-ins.... so what can we combine with Prof. Layton (haven't called GS to verify, but their website shows Layton gets $20) to move credit over to GS?.......

Probably not many options... my stores don't have that many used DS and PSP titles. There's probably going to be at least a small loss, whatever we come up with. But if you use the GS credit gained to just buy more stuff with B2G1 and move it back to Blockbuster at profit, it might be worth it.

YMMV for getting the game of the week price to stack with the B2G1. The computer normally only allows for one promo and Edge.
