ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Very cool, and interesting. Also I think the GS and GC TIV % is so "relatively" high because you know to check BB and when there is a good flip.

I really need to get in on flipping but I am low on cash at the moment, I will probably go in to BB tomorrow and bite on the Bioshock for $20 if they have it.

Also just doing some quick math, it costs you roughly a "whopping" $24 for a new $60 game. SWEET!!

For everyone that Preordered Metal Gear Solid 4, I checked with the store manager where I preordered it yesterday and the computer date has been changed from the 20th to the correct date of the 12th. At my store they always had the 12th up on the Coming Soon board but the computer was wrong, they finally fixed the computer so no need to worry now, you can get it on the 12th, maybe even at midnight if you have a cool store like I do.

i would not trust blockbuster to have your mgs4 pre-order in on time.....i would ether preorder at to Gamestop or just pick it up at Walmart that day.. unless you have trades to use ..i work at blockbuster and we are completely uneducated when it comes to games in general.....for example i bought hour of victory from gamestop then went strait to blockbuster and sold it for 35....but this also causes the prices on some games to be way to high for them to make a profit (like hour of victory at the time sold for 55)

Get out of here moron, we all know more about how Blockbuster works then you do.

how could you possibly say that, you dont know me and i have worked there for almost 2 years .... and what pissed u off that you had to lash out at me? is that what you do skip around on diff. threads and tell them how stupid they are?..... blockbuster will in all likely hood not have the bundle right of the bat but maybe in a couple of weeks... i at leat know that we are not taking pro-orders on systems
Stranglehold Collector's Edition (PS3) - $36

No I read this thread everyday and post several times a week, your the one trolling up the thread. Your also not telling us anything we don't know. We know that blockbuster doesn't know what they are doing with games, that's why this thread exists. If you read the thread you will see that people are using this to there advantages. For example I got a PS3 for 137 dollars out of pocket with trades.

There are people in this thread that work at blockbuster who constructively help us with trade values, tips, etc.

You could help us like them, but but instead you are being a troll.

As far as the PS3 bundle goes, I don't know if it is coming in on the 12th, I didn't ask.

On Monday COD2 and Cars had 8 dollar TIV. On Tuesday COD2 and Cars had a 6 dollar TIV. It was late at night on Tuesday, so maybe Dump Day ended early, but I live on the east coast, so IDK.
I need to transfer some Blockbuster credit to Gamestop for Metal Gear 4 LE.

Any ideas please?
I think you're out of luck. The most you can hope to do is buy games from Blockbuster using your credit and trade them into Gamestop, but that would be a total and complete waste because you'd end up getting about 15% of your credit.

Flipped a couple copies of Sega Superstars Tennis and Stranglehold on my lunch today. About $65 out of pocket for $132 in credit. I usually try to refrain from flipping unless it's a 1:3 ratio or better, but I was down to about $40 in credit and need to snag MGSIV and Wii Fit. I love this fucking thread.
so does that mean the PS3 bundle will come out that day too?
I preordered a MGS PS3 bundle on Tuesday. The manager told me that she wasn't sure if they were getting them in but that if they did, I would get one. She also said that they would get them in on the 20th and she would call me if anything changed.

Depending how much credit you have try ebaying Wii stuff.
I just picked up a console, wii play and a nunchuk for $342 in credit. It's sells on ebay for about $400. So even with fees, you'd be getting equal cash back for credit.
Nintendo DS Lites are also close to even money for credit on ebay.
Ask around to friends before they buy games new. Offer to get them the games tax free with a discount. Like MGS4 regular edition for $50. Only costs $60 plus tax in credit. And depending on how much it cost to get the credit, you'd probably be making out.
I've been offering Madden 09 for $50 to friends. Based on current flips, will probably cost me around $30. I make $20, they save $15($59.99+4.20)

Which version of stranglehold (CE or regular) and or which system? I ask because the wiki has the 360 stranglehold list as $19 TIV but one of the posts says $36.

The PS3 CE of Stranglehold for $36 and the Wii of Sega Superstars Tennis for $30.

Also, the guy at my usual Blockbuster said they're putting MGSIV out for sale at midnight on Monday. I'm guessing he has his dates mixed up, but will probably stop by on Tuesday just to see if I can get mine early.

Mikey is that stranglehold the CE or regular. Just trying to determine if both CE and regular both get 36. Thanks for clearing it up.
Where is Viking and Condemned cheap?
I don't think you can per se, at least not at the big box stores unless you get a lucky Best Buy clearance.
Mikey is that stranglehold the CE or regular. Just trying to determine if both CE and regular both get 36. Thanks for clearing it up.
I got 36 for the CE so I assume it's for both.
Where is Viking and Condemned cheap?
I used 10% + EDGE to get it for ~22ish at GS. Not a real great return (~ $0.64 to the $1) but meh.

Io -

I'm glad somebody else keeps a spreadsheet. I'm trading in at a 2.4 ratio (meaning I get about $2.50 per every "real" dollar I spend) so using your math, that would be about 42%. Not quite there with you yet, but I'm a noob. :)

Going to trade my 5 free Blu-Rays from buying the PS3 (3 unopened) into GS today for about $37 in credit. Then buy two copies of PS3 Stranglehold, and flip into about $$75 worth of BB credit.

Not a bad return for movies I didn't want anyway.

i traded in the regular version of ps3 for 36

does anyone no the max limit for the value cards?

$500 from what I understand.

So it's $14.98 at your Target? Good lord, THPG is still $27.98 where I am! $14.98 is still probably 2 drops (3-6 weeks) away!
What does the CARS/FF2/OPEN SEASON 3-pack trade for respectively...picked one up for $5 at my Target.
Yeah, I got one for $11 and was wondering the same thing.

Last quotes are $12 for Open Season (seems weird with more recent games being less) and $6 for Cars from just yesterday. Note that you might be able to get more for Cars at Gamecrazy.

Fuzion Frenzy is $8 but that is from a few weeks back.
Been out of town all week working, so I'm a bit behind. Did the March Madness 08 value hold?
I havent gotten an answer to that either. I think tomorrow Im going to call/go down there and see for myself. Im hoping so!

Also for those looking for Stanglehold..its on EBgames.com new for 19.99 and used for 17.99 and use the "CAG16" code to make the used 15.11 (free shipping if you buy 2 and make it over $25...otherwise shipping depends on location).

Thanks...all my credit is at GameRush, so I doubt I will try GameCrazy. Do you know what GameCrazy may give for Mass Effect? GR is $25 from what someone said.

Also, the FF2 from the 3-pack has NOT FOR RESALE on it, so I may have to download a cover for the UPC :)

I haven't opened mine yet. Is it actually missing the UPC? I suppose I could trade my regular copy and keep that one.
I haven't opened mine yet. Is it actually missing the UPC? I suppose I could trade my regular copy and keep that one.
Yeah it has no upc. Says "Not for Resale" on the Front and on the back where the UPC should be.

Fixed mine...hopefully it stll gets something decent. I guess even if I get $5 for each I made $10

Also, anyone trade in American Idol for the 360? What does that get? Do you have to trade the game only or game and microphone?

I just traded the games from the bundle in yesterday (except FF2) and got $6 for cars and $12 for open season. Raised an eyebrow when they told me $12, but hey, I'll take it.

You'll get $18 just for Open Season and Cars. Let us know what you get for FF2. Hopefully it is still $8 and that would make it $11 -> $26 (for me, since the 3-pack was $21 at my Target), which is just barely passable. I may save Cars for GC though.
So it's $14.98 at your Target? Good lord, THPG is still $27.98 where I am! $14.98 is still probably 2 drops (3-6 weeks) away!
Yup, they have around 15 copies.

:360:
Timeshift - $17
Open Season - $12
Cars - $8
Fuzion Frenzy 2 - $8

Saddened since my store has Timeshift at $19.98, but delighted since the 3pack is $14.98.

$5 into $28 looks like fun.

Just sold my Wii Fit for $105. So i'm thinking about re-investing it back into credit. $105+ tax = 7 copies of Stranglehold, so ill turn $105 into $252. And the Wii fit that made me $105 was only $45 cash, so $45 -> $252?

Longer process, but im sure its well worth it. I just dont want to jump the gun and take out the entire stock before the supposed B2G1F at the end of the month, plus who knows if we'll get another 25% off PS3 coupon.

$19.98 for Timeshift is pretty good. Mine has it for $27.98. $9.98 after coupon is the best you are going to do on that one (maybe one person said it was $14.98 but I thought that was just THPG and not Timeshift). And the 3-pack is $20.98 here and I only saw 1 at 5 stores, so you have no right to be "saddened" ;).

So, did you just trade Cars for $8? We had a $6 quote earlier in the week - must have been a typo I guess.
plus who knows if we'll get another 25% off PS3 coupon.
This week's coupon is for PS2 games, what one are you referring to?

I've only poked around the game section of my local Targets a few times looking for deals, but I don't recall seeing a 3 pack of X360 games. And besides the $10 off coupon, what else is there?

EDIT: Looks like IO explained it for me...and I guess there's some sort of X360 coupon for Target floating around that I'll probably find here.

I called up for the ESA Holiday bundle quotes, so those aren't on paper.

And I'm drunk right now. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeah.
I called up for the ESA Holiday bundle quotes, so those aren't on paper.

Well, they got Cars wrong. I was just in a few minutes ago and was quoted $6 for it (after a scan of the actual game) so I kept it for Gamecrazy.

I do have the following on paper though:

:360: Open Season $12
:360: Fuzion Frenzy 2 $8
:360: Harry Potter OotP $15
:360: Call of Duty 2 $6 (boo - down $2, horrible flip since it cost me $4 - ruins my percentage ;))

I also noticed that used copies of PS3 NBA Street Homecourt were selling for $14.99 so I'm guessing there was a big drop there (probably to $8). Just to make sure I checked the 360 version and sure enough that has dropped to $8.

If anyone can get them to give you a quote on History Channel Civil War I'd appreciate it. They couldn't find it in the system for me. I assume it is there but listed in some weird way. If worse comes to worst, I'll xerox the UPC and bring it in (don't want to open the game just yet).

I printed a cover for Fuzion Frenzy to avoid the hassle of having them look it up or possibly not take it. I just used regular paper but it looks really nice - can barely tell the difference. I'm surprised people got in trouble for that before - they must have used really crappy printers ;). Just thought I should add there's nothing wrong with doing that as they should take them disc-only in any case, so the cover is just a courtesy for them to make it easier to scan and display (YMMV - some stores apparently won't take disc-only games).

traded it in game only and got $35. took the microphone to gamestop and got $4 for it ($4.40 with edge).
