Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.
Damn, that sucks. Thanks for letting us know. I was going to buy 3 more today with gamestop's B2G1. Thanks
I was going to do the same and just try to spread out some credit since the BBVs around here are pretty much cleaned out. Oh, well.

Did a flip to best buy two days ago for a $40 profit, was looking to do another one but the stores around here have either closed down or only had a couple decent games and a lot of disc only. Was hopping to get some more credit for black friday and the couple games I wanted for myself were nowhere to be found. Makes me sad to see all the blockbusters closing, really like these sales to fill my backlog and get decent flips. All the ones near my place are closed and the ones near my folks when I'm vacation are dwindling.

Fun ride while it lasted. Thank you everyone for the help, suggestions, and support. Specially you HB!

I made out like a bandit, $160+ in credit from trade ins, a brand new copy of Skyrim, and 3 used games I've been wanting.

And the deal goes on! Even without the KA madness some price drops could still be worthwhile for deals throughout the year.

Im addicted to flipping now.
Nothing personal...but the name of this site is Cheap Ass Gamer, not Cheap Benevolent Gamer.

I'm not one to kick the special needs kid in the local cul de sac either, but BBV is a business and at the end of the day if they don't have the people in place to avoid or remedy situations like this one, then they deserve what they get.

Look at Best Buy - TIV's drop right before big sales. Someone's paying attention. Will they catch everything? Probably not, but I don't forsee a Cranium Kabookii happening there any time soon.
:applause: Well said sir
Yeah they could pay me to troll the net and alert them to things like this. I dont come cheap though!
I do!

Hire me instead!!!

Picked up Bulletstorm (PS3), Force Unleashed 2 (360), AC: Brotherhood (360) for $21.64.

AC Brotherhood condition is a joke but the only copy I saw... I'll prob go back this week and try to exchange for something else. My location didn't have much at all.

On tuesday my store had TONS of games now they are picked over with nothing. Pretty much every single $15 and under game is gone except for some old odl games with no cover art. How 10 coopies of Harry Potter sold that quick is beyond me.

Seriously people WTF? Why so frakking greedy? Trade 2, fine, trade 4, umm ok, but that's not enough huh? Gimme gimme more huh?

If this was Walmart or BB, I wouldn't give a shmit, but these used deals by BBV have been awesome and everyone knows they're going/are/were bankrupt so why do you have to be so damn greedy and take even more advantage of BBV.

I didn't attempt one KA trade, I did flip a decent amount of games, got some as gifts, and some for myself and am very happy, content, and thankful for these great deals.
 I completely agree. Someone in the one social group I'm in on CAG openly admitted to doing THIRTY copies of KA to BBV. I mean, seriously, what the fuck do you do with $500+ in BBV credit from all of those copies flipped? I can see maybe a couple per store and spread them out amongst any remaining BBV stores you have. But they claimed to have done 10 or more at a single store.

THIS is why flips get killed. When you get stupid greedy and do a ton of the same flip. It's one thing to do an acceptable amount(1-2) or even as many as a trade program allows per title per year(3 @ BB per title), but to flood a company with so much crap just because you can is just begging for a ban and for the company to put trades on lockdown from now on.

After you kill the golden gooses, then what do you do?

Spent $30 cash at my local store by buying some Blu Rays (wish it was GS money instead of cash but KA was dead). If the store is not profitable it will close down so go rent some games and movies if you want to keep your local stores in business.

Was playing my Bulletstorm and got a Disc read error. Might exchange. IDK if i want to show my face there after the KA flip :)

# is more than wat u mentioned. If I have $555 BBV's credit, I know wat I can do w/ it.
Eat golden gooses?
Cook it 1st though

The manager of my nearest BBV said someone came in and bought 200+ games in one shot. I got what I wanted the day it started, but shit just got real. Actually it happened two sales ago, too, when I went at 11 a.m. the first day and everything was gone. Fewer stores mean more cutthroat competition I suppose.

I did notice that there was no KA on the shelves so it didn't look like anybody traded it in. I never tried to trade my copy because there wasn't anything left that I wanted.
Eat golden gooses?
Yeah. You could do that. But then what happens after you're done eating the golden geese and there's none left? Starve? That was my problem when I traded to GS too. I didn't think of the long term, only the short term quick cash/credit grab.

I only like going to the close BBV when Jody is working because he's cool and doesn't hassle me. The other one is run by mostly chicks, and they're not so bad to deal with. Jody hooked me up with 2 KA trade ins after I give him the part #. Now I just have to figure out what to buy since I cleared it out last week. Thinking about buying some blu-rays and selling them.

Roast/boil the goose bones and make stock. ;)

Shit gold. That's what.

Still though. That's just asking for trouble to try trading so many copies. I should know since that's the kinda stuff that was the final nail in the coffin for my ban from GS.

But unlike GS for the most part, I actually like the employees at my BBV stores since they're fairly knowledgeable and not d-bags who just tow the company line n try to sell, sell, sell.

Don't get me wrong. There are some good employees at a few of my local GS stores, but for every really good employee there's 10 fuckwads.

That's why I went at opening on the first day of the sale. I didn't wanna have to compete with the people who came in and grabbed tons of shit at the start of the last sale.

I still haven't hit the two further out stores, but I intend to before this sale ends, since the one has Dead Space 1 and 2 for PS3 in stock accordung to Google Shopping.:)

If anyone here lives in Morgantown, WV - the BBV by the stadium had an INSANE amount of pretty much all the games in this sale. It literally looked like no one had bought anything.
No price drops again this week and the only transfers are BF3. :(

It sells for $14.99 and trades for $6.

$19 and $17 respectively
And still no existent tiv for KA ? :whistle2:(

Went today and felt so cheated. 3 hours of my life I will never get back :[
There were literally only 2 used PS3 games on the shelf.
Even for the Xbox games most of them were priced at above 15.

Thank you, HB! I appreciate it! If by any chance you can confirm Brink held and is still $17 on both systems today (Monday) I'd be very thankful. Might be a decent way to turn some Best Buy credit into... well... more Best Buy credit ;p

i think i pissed the manager at one blockbusters off big time

he pulled some games off the shelf from rentals to for sell items or whatever he call them

i had picked out dragon age 2 madden 11 and fable 3 but they looked bad and he said you can bring it back whenever you want but i didnt want to drive back up there to get store credit for a store with nothing in in it

so i passed

You drove an hour and a half each way for this sale over a week after it started? Seriously?

Why didn't you either ask for a different disc or to see the condition of those discs BEFORE having them convert them over from rental to used for you? That's what I usually do before I buy used games. If the discs/cases are in deplorable shape or incomplete, then I won't even waste my(or the employees) time.

Yep, still at $17

How easy is it to get the Blockbuster stores to convert Rentals to Sales? I'm guessing it varies store by store, manager to manager?
