Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.
what system? and do you know what the rayman origins price is on ps3?
I got it for the 360, I didn't see any copies of Rayman on PS3 but your store may have them.

Lucky day for me here. Had to drive across town to get Max Payne 3, decided to check the nearby blockbuster again and noticed that instead of being in a cardboard bin, they had neatly organized all the sales games and had some new stuff out.

Ended up grabbing Pokemon Platinum and Explorers of Sky for only 13$. Saw a few other games that I might go back and grab tomorrow or Friday.

I got 2 free months of the Blockbuster by mail since my last local BBV is closing down. As long as one game ships I'll be happy lol

They closed the last Blockbuster close to me a few months ago. It was always busy too. Really miss these sales, they had the best selection. I just did a store location search and found one close to Mother's place. She's about an hour away so maybe I can go there tomorrow or Sunday while visiting the family this weekend.

Blockbuster by my house is finally closing. Surprised it lasted as long as it did. Clearance deals are unremarkable at this point. (Irondale, AL)

I don't even feel like stepping into a Blockbuster these days because I'm usually 100% sure I'll be walking out empty handed. Waste of everyone's time.

My BB had a good selection of under $20 games. I got Red Faction Armegeddon for $5. Might go back for Bodycount $9, Syndicate, or Fight Night Champion... (all 360)
Every time this thread gets bumped I get scared some crazy sale is going on. I just got paid, please stop.
The current sale is as good a sale as they've ever had, if not better.

I agree, the 50% off $20 or lower titles is a helluva deal! So far I've picked up mass effect 3 x2, Uncharted 3 x2, Killzone 3, batman AC, BF BC1 & Red faction:A
My personal favorite was 5 for $25.
I must have missed that one or I just forgot about it. That is a hell of a deal right there.
My personal favorite was 5 for $25.
It was 5-$25 with a $10 GC wasn't it. It originally started as 3/$15 or 10/$25. Then they added $5 GCs to both and then a $10 GC to the $25 option.

I had like 12 of those GCs to use for a long time.

Also wasn't this the time when Duke Nukem was $5 at BBY and traded in for $17 at BBV? Then they nerfed the TIV to $2 making the game $5 to buy. In which case TRU had a a TiV of $9 or something like that. Man was that the best flipping I have ever done.

That month was ridiculous.

Yes, all of the above. Also the Kinect Adventures fiasco too $2 at gamestop to $15 at blockbuster.. I went a little apeshit on flipping then. I have repented since and don't flip nearly as much anymore.

I'm sorry but no - limited selection plus very limited locations makes this an average at best BBV sale. It isn't bad in theory, but there wasn't all that much to get in reality. I'd say it was one of the worst but I recognize that a few people are finding some good stuff. For me personally it was one of the worst. During the B1G1 sales of years past I was able to come out of any particular store with 6-12 games, easy (while leaving many other potential purchases behind). It was all I could do to scrape up 1 game at the 1 store I went to this sale (early on too) - and that was just a crappy copy of Madden 12 for Wii to trade in at Gamestop.

I see where IO is coming from because this sale would have been amazing in the prime of Blockbuster. Anyone else remember how many times we got cockblocked with 19.99 prices, hell, even 15.99 prices? And having to match up the damn games to get the full discount... this sale is so much more flexible, but Blockbuster is nearly a husk. NEARLY, since I'm still finding stuff.

Is this sale still ongoing or is it over? Just kind of checked through and someone mentioned till Jan 7th but can anyone confirm for me?

Still happening. Stopped by my BBV this morning, they had a massive selection of games at half off.

Here's what I picked up:

Final Fantasy XIII-2 PS3
Ratchet and Clank All 4 One
Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 PS3
Lego Harry Potter Years 4-7 PS3
Transformers Dark of the Moon 360

How much did it cost you for Killzone 3 and Red Faction:Armageddon?

At my BBV, RFA was $9.99, so $5 after the sale, and Killzone 3 was $14.99, so $7.50 after the sale.

I'd like to know when this sale ends as well. I'm not going back home until January 1 and was hoping to check the local BBV for any games.

If someone could verify, that would be GREAT. Also, is the giftcard deal dead as well?

Here's hoping it is still going on. :)

Well, I wasn't really referring to what one person may find at a particular store. I was just speaking to the sale (50% off $19.99 and under) itself. Fry's could have a 90% off everything in their store sale and CAGs would be calling it the sale of the year, but it would be a terrible sale for me since I wouldn't be able to participate.

How'd you manage Super Mario Galaxy 2 for $12.50? I thought only items $19.99 and lower were eligible for half off.

You're right the lady messed up. The code wouldn't work on the computers there and she just gave me half off the entire purchase and not B1G1 50% off... I purchased so much there though I didn't even noticed til I got home.
i am sorry but as usual i am late to the part, what kind of sale is going on? is it still 5-25?

thanks in advance
All games $19.99 and under are half off. All games $24 or more are B1G1 50% off

Sale should be good until 01/07/2013.

And the giftcard promo is indeed dead.

Picked up
:360: Top Spin 3 $2.50
:wii: Transformers Dark of the Moon $9
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen $5
Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs $3.50
Tiger woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters $7.50

The 50% off sale ends tomorrow 12/31. The b1g1 50% off ends 1/7. There is a price drop tomorrow but I couldn't get the list.

My Blockbuster, that usually doesn't have but a few overpriced games for sale, had 2 bins with about 100 games in each. The guy working there said they had just received a shipment of games recently. I passed on most because of lack of money but I did get Killzone 3 for $7.50 and Lego Pirates of Carribean for $5.
Are you guys going to Blockbusters that have GameRush still attached? Or just plain BlockBuster?
Just plain ol Blockbuster...I've never even seen a GameRush lol.

Glad I checked this thread. Found the following:

Xbox 360
UFC Trainer Kinect - 9.99
Mirror's Edge - 4.99

DS
Mario & Luigi - Bowser's Inside Story - 7.50
Mario Kart DS - 9.99
Kirby Superstar Ultra - 4.99

Sadly just found out that the store I planned on going to is closing down. Had my brother call to inquire about when the promo ends. They said that since they are closing, they are not doing any promotions. Is that normal? Kind of disappointed, because google shows them having good stock of games that I would buy.

Still might swing by to see what they have and what percentage they are giving off. I am sure it will be peanuts.

Stores that are closing usually suck because they ship off most of the good stuff to other stores then go into closing sale mode which usually jacks prices back up. Then they slowly start offering minimal discounts that never reach a decent price. At least thats what happened with the Blockbusters closing near me last year.
