Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

Nice.... Might have to check out the store on 56th Street and the one on 86th Street tomorrow. Any Indy CAGers know if they will do a 19.99 with a 14.99 free one?

:360:I got 4 games for myself, and 4 games to trade.

:ps3:
Dead Space 2-$19.99
Bulletstorm-$19.99
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood-$19.99
Battlefield: Bad Company 2-$9.99
SW:TFUII(x2)-free
Medal of Honor-free
:360:
SW:TFUII(x1)-free

I spent $74.84 and traded the free games to Best Buy for $57.20.
Thanks for the heads up.
So 40 is middle aged and some sort of "other" that shouldn't be buying games to you people?
Well, I guess I'd fall under that category then ;).
No it just seems like the hoarders are always middle aged women, more power to them if they are actual gamers or giving them to someone if they aren't but the two recent stories were both about bitchy middle aged women trying to game the system. Fatwallet and Slickdeals are mainly where you will find these types.

And the average life expectancy is about 78, so like it or not 40 is about as "middle" aged as you can get. I don't think there are many middle aged women gamers though or there would be more Oprah and General Hospital games out there. I kid, a woman with that kind of gaming experience is a dream woman to most.
Just out of curiosity, do you guys have people who seem like gamers doing the trade ins at Best Buy? A lot of the CS reps were gamers and they put a guy who used to roam around in charge of the trade ins at the new games section who's also a gamer.

I have to admit I wouldn't mind doing 4 SFU II's (2 for each system) or something but I can't stand the thought of getting odd looks. I did do multiple Two World II's though so...
Ya the guy at the store I go to in spring hill fl is a gamer and head supervisor of video game dept always in and out fast with no problems but a store closer to me finally updated their systems so I hope its as smooth there but I doubt it will be

4 out of the 6 guys I deal with at my BB are gamers. Sometimes I get sucked into talking games with them for 30 mins after doing trades. I don't mind but I always think i am going to get them in trouble because the are not really working. I guess that is part of the job now though.

On a side note. If SWFU:II TIV does not drop 2morrow at BB I will be amazed. I am sure most BBV have been cleaned out and redistributed to BB today.

I had a great time. Only went to 3 stores this time and got:

Bulletstorm - $19,99
Legend of the Guardians - free

Two Worlds 2 - $19.99
Blur - Free

Mafia 2 - $19.99
Mindjack - Free

I might go back for Mindjack if people say it is worth the $7.50. I was tempted but could not do it. My closet BBV had a bunch.

Had the feeling I was going to get denied since there was no signage up. This store is usually good at the sales too. Was told that the Bogo doesnt start until next week. So they told me to write my name down on the games & come back next week to get them. Since I knew something was up just grabbed splatterhouse & Bulletstorm. wonder whats gonna happen next week when there is no sale? Hopefully the'll give me a call when they find the barcode.

I went to BB this afternoon and no signs were up plus the female clerk did not know about the sale. She said she would call another store and they told her it started today. She was on the computer for about 10 minutes because she said the barcode was part of a large email attachment and she had to find it. She was very nice. The other BB's I went to were very nice and they all understood the sale to be buy any priced game get a $14.99 or less game FREE.

I had fun tonight. I ended up getting a bunch of stuff to flip, mainly because most of the games I wanted were the $19.99 games and I didn't find many $14.99 games to go with them. I won't bore you with the flip stuff, but I did end up getting for myself:

Dead Space 2 PS3
Fable III Xbox 360
Spider-man Shattered Dimensions Xbox 360
Splatterhouse Xbox 360

Very happy with my haul tonight. I think I am done. My stores said they didn't convert anything for this sale like usual, so it was kind of bare. Mostly copies of the same 3 games (Fallout NV, Epic Mickey, Golden Eye) but there were some goods to be had. Maybe I'll go to one more later this week. Finding deals is so addicting!

Whoa whoa whoa game guides are 75% off !?!?!?! Can we get the barcode numbers for this promotion because I don't think my store know about this.

IF they did the price changes in the computer it will ring up automatically.
FYI: If you want, you can buy the @Gamer magazine at Best Buy this week and it has a $20 off Brink(or Hunted: Demon's Forge) coupon that takes either game down to $10 this week. With the cost of buying the magazine, that makes a copy of Brink or Hunted: Demon's Forge for either console $15 this week at BB.

That's why ya ask if they have everything BEFORE buying it if it's gonna be a problem for you if it's incomplete.;)
Ok cool thank you for the info :applause:
24 is an amazing amount. Unfortunately she won't have much of an issue as you think. Between the 2 of them they could do 6 per system per store per day. If they live close they could load them all off in 2-4 days. Best Buy say 3 per title per system but if you come back the next day they will gladly take 3 more.
What happened to people getting banned as a result? I recall a few people mentioning it in the trade-in thread.

Haha bummer, stupid me didn't know I could buy a game over $15 and still get a free $15 game, thought both games had to be $15 and under, oh well.
Got Splatterhouse and fallout new Vegas.

Got everything I was looking for plus some nice surprises...

PS3
Blur
Bulletstorm
Dead Rising 2
Dead Space 2
Modnation Racers
Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions
STFUII x2
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Battlefield Bad Company 2 (Scanned as the first one for $9.99!!!)
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock

X360
STFUII x2

Wii
Super Mario Galaxy 2 x2
Ghost Squad

After trading in the STFU II's and the Mario Galaxy 2's, total comes out to a little over $40. Also, at one of the stores, the clerk totaled two $19.99 games together and I got one $19.99 free. Thanks HB!

Yup, guide discount rang up automatically here. Snagged the kid his FFXIII guide he's been bugging me for. 6 and change just so I can quit listening to him bitch. Priceless. :D

Went to 2 Blockbusters today. The first one was stiff about the deal being only $14.99 games. The second store, the moment the manager saw me he let me know that I can buy any priced game to trigger the $14.99 or under game free. He also made sure that when I went to the register to purchase my games that the other employee matched the titles prices so I got the best deals. Was great to see he was on top of things like that.

My haul:

Guitar Hero Smash Hits Wii: $6.99
Virtua Fighter 5 PS3: $6.99

Jeopardy x2 Wii: $9.99
Wheel of Fortune Wii: $9.99
Rock Band 3 Wii: $9.99
Rock Band 3 x2 PS3: $9.99
Burnout Paradise PS3: $9.99
Boom Blox Wii: $9.99
Endless Ocean Wii: $9.99
Endless Ocean: Blue Ocean Wii: $9.99
Toy Story 3 Wii: $9.99

Force Unleashed 2 x3 PS3/Xbox360: $14.99
Goldeneye 007 Wii: $14.99
007 Bloodstone 360: $14.99
Motorstorm Pacific Rift PS3: $14.99

Bulletstorm 360: $19.99
DKC Returns: $24.99

Sadly the second store didn't have any Splatterhouse copies. They did have NBA Jam for 360, but it rang up $19.99 :(
Yeah my understanding it was three a YEAR... But I also heard (so not sure if it was true) that the only thing that then happens is a message pops up on the screen that can be ignored by anybody. And even if you try to do more than 3 at a time it won't let you, but if the cashier doesn't care they can just ring you up twice.
lets just hope she gets banned iatcg stlye.

Picked up Test Drive Unlimited 2 (FREE) and NFS Shift 2 UNLEASHED ($25), both for the 360. Check 2 out 3 stores. No one had NBA Jam (just wait for the On Fire Ed. i guess), Super SF4, Singularity, Wolfenstein, etc games i wanted. Every location i went to the MOST or almost all the main titles i wanted was on PS3 only not 360. I plan to pick up NFS Hot Pursuit and one other title tommarow. Overall I cant complain and quite happy with what i got.

Man I wish the blockbuster near me had splatterhouse. well atleast I got dead to rights retribution for free, heard it has avatar awards =)

picked up star wars force 2 and ff13 14.99 each

since i did my flips to bestbuy yesterday with ps2 games (almost a 100 ) i got those to play

i had force 2 about 15 times but never played lol

How did you get a 20$ game free?

I think if she walks in with 12 copies or more per system of SWFU:II she will get turned away fast. IF she divides them with the hubby and takes 6 a day in for 4 days she might get away with it. I am not sure how exactly the system locks people out but I was told from the guys at my BB was they were limited to 3 per system per transaction. I only say this because I traded 2 SW back during the last BOGO sale and traded 2 more this time on the 360 and it never even came up as a question about previous trades. BB is really pushing trades right now and I think they are following the 3 game rule so as not to look shady to the local governments. I know my 2nd closest BB has to do fingerprints now because the city board passed an ordinance that all "pawn" type activities needed better documentation. BB does not care where a game is from or how many you have...they only care if you stole it or it appears you stole it. I don't mind a good flip but I try to not abuse it to death either or else in the long run it just gets harder to trade.

Lol I think I might actually keep one this time too to play and trade in later.

Picked up a copy of Shadows of the Damned for $29.99 and got a free copy of Madden 11. Proceeded to trade in Madden 2011 for 10+40% at Best Buy with some other games. Cheap Shadows of the Damned!

Mine usually has good stuff but not this time. I was going to get Mario galaxy 2 to flip to amazon again but amazon currently isn't taking Mario galaxy 2 right now. I guess ill get splatterhouse for 360 and get enslaved to keep. I'll then flip splatterhouse to amazon for 10.50. It's not profit but since the ps3 version of enslaved is 14.99 (didn't have 360 version which is cheaper) it will be like I played 4 bucks or so for enslaved if I trade in splatterhouse so its not all that bad right ?
Lol I think I might actually keep one this time too to play and trade in later.
I think everyone here has flipped force unleashed 2 atleast once this year (I've done it twice). the 360 version in particular has had solid flip value for a while

I got:wii:Hasbro Family Game Night 3, :wii:Tron:Evolution-Battle Grids, :ps3:Dead Space 2, :360:Enslaved, :360:Transformers: War for Cybertron, :360:Splatterhouse, :360:Guitar Hero 6: Warriors of Rock, :360:Tron: Evolution, and two copies of :360:NBA Jam for $80.

NBA Jam and Dead Space had the price tags $9.99 and $19.99 but rang up as $19.99 and $24.99, I told him about how you have to manually change prices now, it took him 2 mins to update the prices with no problems.

At my other store their computer wouldn't get games over $14.99 to work, I told them it worked at the other location and they price adjusted it for me and said they would call to get there system fixed. Overall pretty good customer service at both of my stores today.

I Purchased :ps3:AC Brohood (19.99) and Fable 3(19.99)., AND got :360:star wars force unleashed 2 and :360:NBA JAM free.

$42 for FOUR games I had missed and will eventually play :) good deal to me.

Told a friend about it, but his BBv gave him some bull about it not being in their system yet. However, the manager at my store was complaining about her upper management changing policy on the sale (said he had called her three times and it was only 10:30.) so it might not all be bull. Anyone else have issues?
IF they did the price changes in the computer it will ring up automatically.
I drove 50 minutes to BBV just for the employee to tell me that the prices aren't updated, that the prices update automatically, and that he can't update the prices. I tried to explain corporate's new policy of having each store update the prices manually themselves. I explained that it's a fairly recent policy change and that it's no longer automatic. He didn't believe me and/or give a flying fuck.

I would buy about 10-12 different guides if they would update the prices. Maybe they would like to have them sit on the shelf until they are destroyed.

Got Splatterhouse, Tron: Evolution, Bulletstorm and Transformers for $37.

I may go back tomorrow, they have Medal of Honor and Shattered Dimensions (DS) for $9.99 each...

For those of you keeping Force Unleashed 2 to play, rather than to flip, there's a very good chance you'll be done with it before Best Buy gets wise and lowers the TIV. That game is 5 hours, tops. It feels like half a game.
how are you guys doing 19.99 games, both stores I went to said 14.99 and under.
You swap stickers and put a $14.99 one on a $19.99 game ;)

What comes in the "limited edition" version of bulletstorm for ps3? Is the bonus content on disc or was it on some insert code that has probably been used?

I went out this evening and found a few more games. But I also had a surprise pickup - I got the Avatar Extended Edition Blu-Ray for $9.99 (new). I think people were talking about that a few weeks back. It was tagged $9.99 (sitting right at the front register no less) and rang up $12.99 but they took $3 off because of the tag. So that was a nice bonus.

Funny how I got that for cheaper than their generic/rental case used copies ;).

I also saw one oddball game that I don't think has been mentioned here but clearly must have been a recent price drop:

:wii: Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 1: $9.99

Does anyone have a list of the current $19.99 games? They aren't listed in the op and I went back a ways in the thread and still found nothing (because it looked like people have been posting non-stop for 2 days now).

Went to my local blockbuster and asked the clerks working there if the sale had started because there wasn't any signage out for it and one of them said he thought the sale started next Monday but he would credit me one game for free if the promo wasn't loaded in their system. Sure enough, he rang up the games and they didn't promo out a free one so I put 10 games or so back and went with Heavenly Sword and STFU II for the PS3. Its unfortunate since they had a lot of other titles I would've liked to have gotten but I can always go back in Monday and hope they actually have the promo updated in their system at that time.

My BB (Waialae Ave, HI) was ravaged. Empty shelves and a tiny bin of games, most of which are Hannah Montana: The Movie: The Game for :ds:. Drove out there so I picked up :ps3: Bionic Commando, :ps2: Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, :ps2: Destroy All Humans, and :ps2: Bully. Came out to about $10.70 altogether after tax. Worth the trip, I suppose...

Don't wait - get back in there and ask them to look up the promo. If you wait until Monday, your games are likely to be gone once they figure out how to run the sale. It isn't ever going to be "updated in their system" - they have to scan a bar code now to get the sale to work. It isn't automatic like it used to be. The last sale was the first time they went to the bar code. Just ask them to look at their current promos. Every store I went to today had the bar codes on a sheet by the register and even if the clerk had no idea about the sale, they could find it on the sheet when I asked them about it. I guess the exact placement of that sheet is YMMV depending on the diligence of the manager, but it should be around somewhere.

On a side note, I think a lot of the comments from BBV clerks about the sale starting "next Monday" just stems from their misinterpretation of it being a "Labor Day" sale. Yeah, it is a Labor Day sale, but it starts the week that contains Labor Day and for BBV promo weeks start on Tuesday and end Monday. Thus it started today and ends next Monday (yes, after close).

Seriously, I beat it on normal in less than 4 hours. Pretty and fun, but absurdly short.
