Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.
So I'm guessing Warhammer's TIV dropped? I got $22 for it yesterday. Welcome back hawaiiboy! Hope you enjoyed your vacation/
Probably around $10 now. Its usually half of the current price.

Also I never knew $19.99 games and under qualified now... If so I would have hit up my local BBV earlier
Just a reminder all $19.99 and under titles qualify for the $3 for $15 and 5 for $25 sale and this is supposed to be the last week for the sale. I believe it will run thru close of business on monday but not 100% on that. If its not ringing up properly at ur store ask them to accept the price changes. Any manger can do it and takes like 30 sec

When did the sale change to include $19.99 and under games? Today? I'm going to head over to BBV immediately and pick up some games...
Yeah, I'm wondering this as well. I thought it was $14.99 and under for used movies/games and $19.99 and under for new movies.

Sorry guys I was excited and thinking about the retail stuff. It is $14.99 and under titles that are 3 for $15 and 5 for $25. I better edit my post

dammit! I was super-excited about the chance to score some great deals, but now my dreams have been crushed…

thanks for the update, as always

Looks like TIV's have held so you could trade in Warhammer for $22 and buy it back for $20
TIV's for homefront and la noire is $12

That's what I was thinking. Good thing I dumped my copy yesterday!

Oh myyyy... Know where I'm going tonight. You are the man!

I went to my local BBV, and they hadn't updated their prices. In fact, Deus Ex still rang up at $49.99. At any rate, I was disappointed because they had LA Noire and Deus Ex, two games I really want. However, I wasn't going to hassle with having them fix the price since my backlog as quadrupled over this holiday season. The fact that this sale is still $14.99 and under games makes me feel better about not being able to get those games.

Crap, you cost me 40 mins. Me and the Manager couldn't figure out why the deal wouldn't trigger :(

Note: the "Crap, you cost me 40 mins." is meant in jest !!

Hmmm....I never did finish Homefront when I had it, so that may be a possibility. I already have L.A. Noire but I actually ended up playing it more like a GTA title when I was playing it. I kinda found the game to be boring. So maybe I'll trade it in for $12 and put that towards a 3/$15 or 5/$25 dealie at one of my two closer stores.;)

Just got notice that the 3 for $15 and 5 for $25 will be ongoing til further notice. Never did get any big clearance info. Just some framed art at 50% off.

Do you get physical gift cards for trade-ins? I just did a trade in at my local BBV and they put it on my account, and told me it's only good for that one store. I know I've traded in before and got physical gift cards.

:drool:Till further notice.....:drool::drool::drool:

Oh please please please please say more shit is gonna drop to the magical price point within the next 2-3 weeks and the sale keeps going till then.

I'm kinda shocked that Warhammer dropped that quick to $20. It's a decent(if repetitive) shooter/hack n slash type of game. The kill animations get old after about 20 minutes, but you need to kill enemies with your blade in order to regain health.

I'm just glad I only paid $10 for it cuz it ain't worth much more to me.:booty:

Hawaiiboy corrected his mistake less than 30 minutes after he posted. He didn't cost you any time.

Hmm, yes and I left 5 mins after he posted. Let me just say I was not giving attitude to him at all, but you sir are putting your nose where it's not welcome !!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! My only BBV within 100 miles is closing.

Peru, IL location. I overheard them say some date in February was their last day. Everything in the store is 10% off which is pitiful. If the 3/15 was active, I'd be all over it, but everything is being sold individually.

Take some responsibility. And if you don't want people commenting on your posts, send a pm.

I was told March 18 at my local store. That seems like a really long time for a liquidation sale. I can't imagine they'll have enough product to stay open til then.

who should I pm? you for being the douche !!

Sadly, my closest BBV is closing. I must have bought close to 20 or 30 blus during the 5 for $20 and the 5 for $25. If they still had those deals going, I would have bought that whole store out
who should I pm? you for being the douche !!
Why would you pm me with something you say is none of my business? That's just a silly insult. I'm sure you can do better than that.
who should I pm? you for being the douche !!
If anything you're being a douche, HB had a simple typo and you blame him for wasting your time. Give it a rest and move on.

I'm excited to see how long this deal lasts, tons of higher priced games left at my BBV.

Looks like 3 stores in my area are closing. This along with the last batch of closing they did, there won't be a Blockbuster store open in 40 miles. The only video store left after they close will be 1 Family Video store.

What I find funny is the sign they have out at the nearest one closing says that the store is moving. While the local news picked up from the local DM that they're not moving, they're closing due to the company closing unprofitable stores.

You know, I thought the one by me had a "moving" sign up too but then later I thought I must have just read it wrong. I'll have to head in there tomorrow to return my last combo pass item and cancel that so I'll find out for sure.

It's really stupid how they are handling this round of closings. The signs in the store say were moving come join us at blockbuster.com. So ur right io and others who said they didn't see signs for closing.

I saw one of the outer stores that I had gone to on the last clearance just tossed up closing signs, but the other 2 more local stores are still going strong. Out of all of the ones I have been to, those 2 have the best management teams, so that doesn't surprise me.

I saw the 4 copies of KA that I flipped in sitting at 34.99... Wonder if they'll ever sell them?!? ;)

Yeah, like that's going to happen. I thought it was great when I signed up for the Combo Pass and they had that 1 month at a time shipment that could be returned to the store. But if there are no stores around, it is entirely pointless :bomb:.

Found out last night that the last BB in Atlanta proper is closing (Ponce). There may be a couple left in the burbs after this wave, but even that is looking unlikely.

At least they didn't have a copy of LA NOIRE to frustrate me, since the combo deal is now kaput there.

Wow... I remember when I visited there a 4-5 years ago it was Blockbuster, and especially Gamreush, heaven out there. Last time I was there (just under a year ago - I was out there a few times including when we had that meetup at Dave & Busters) there were still a fair amount. Granted, I was in the north suburbs.

I am just wondering how many more around here are closing. They were pretty much at critical mass as it was (in that losing a significant chunk more would mean they would have no physical presence in the eyes of many people).

Looking back 5-6 years ago it was definitely the case that they had oversaturated. There were stores just a few miles from each other. They took care of that with some closings 4-5 years ago. Then they got rid of a few more a year or two after that. At that point, they had really good spacing in terms of being able to be the "local" video rental place to a large number of people. The last round took them out of a lot of markets, though. This one is pretty much the end... Or at least the middle of the end ;) (we're way past the beginning of the end).

not sure if this is an obvious thing i should know or if it was already asked... but do stores that are closing still run the 3 for 15 / 5 for 25 used sale on games 14.99 and under, or no?

Almost positive its...no. sucks, I know...

Remembered there was a blockbuster on the way while driving home from the airport, I swear it's probably the last BBV in a fifty mile radius from my house. I was able to get Enslaved, Bulletstorm, Harry Potter 2, Duke Nukem and one other game that escapes me at the moment. Took DN, HP and the mystery game to the gamestop next door and traded them in for about $27 so I basically have Enslaved and Bulletstorm for free!

God I miss BBV, back in april of 2010 I spent like $150 and got a good 30 or so games while on a trip to Honolulu.

Where in Ohio?
went to a BBV and homefront and LA Noire didn't move prices. she even scanned them and said they didn't change. frustrating
They didn't pull the updates then, everything was good to go here.

Once again, ask for a manager and ask them to process the price changes.

Went to pick up LA Noire today and it was ringing up at $29.99 until the employee accepted the price change. It only took about 1 minute, then it rang up as $14.99. As he scanned the sheet he then mentioned to the other employee "we can put out more stuff for the sale". He also noted that they had got a new shipment of non used video games for sale, but they were pretty overpriced. Bioshock 2 for $19.99 etc. Thanks hawaiiboy
Once again, ask for a manager and ask them to process the price changes.
Hawiiboy, when does price change occur, those BBV stores i went to always lag a few days behind, and i tried several times telling cashier/manager about process the price changes, they just told me system did update automatically, even a yound mgr said that. i am not saying they are lying, but i am frustrated.

Checked my two closest BBV today and looks like they are both on the way out which was a big shock. In my whole entire area they were probably the most busy ones. It seems like it will not be that long before all of BBV are gone which will really suck. The funny part the stores are packed with people buying things at horrible prices, but if these people would have went to the stores other times they would have been able to get better deals. Now only time will tell what crazy things they will do next.
