Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

You want me to buy you a calendar OC? Lol.
Any word on a supposed Labor Day sale?
Their Facebook page says "Get 50% off all previously viewed movies, plus save 75% on framed art and posters!" 8/28-9/3

When I think of all of the games I've picked up at the various sales versus the level of sucktitude that was that last sale that equaled out to a B1G1 50% sale I get sad.

Although if Dish had not bought out the remnants of Blockbuster, then this thread might be a long forgotten memory by now or at the most we would be talking about how horrible the discounts are at the national liquidation sales as the entire chain gets closed down.

blockbuster.com is fail, the games section says Dishonored is available to rent in store but the game was delayed until October lolol

Movie selection for the sale is okay but nothing I want. I did get an Iron Giant poster for $2.69 since I'm a really big fan of the film. And my Madden 13 rental came with an unused online pass, woo hoo!

I'd like to try out Darksiders 2 or P4 Arena before I play Borderlands 2 though.

With the death of this thread (and HWV before it) I find myself on CAG a lot less. It is so much harder to find decent, newish games for ~$5 these days.

I stopped into my nearby BBV on the way home today to check and see if they knew anything about a potential game sale coming up for Labor Day.

The only sale they're having right now is a 50% off pre-owned movies deal for this weekend apparently. But since most of them are $9.99 apiece that means they're $5 each.

I also noticed that Dish jacked up the formerly $.99 movies(The Informant, Sex & The City 2, etc) to $2 apiece. You can tell they were the former $1 ones cuz of the white stickers over the UPC's on the back.

About the only thing that some of you may want to check out is the 75% off on framed artwork/posters for this weekend.

While there I checked their game selection and honestly there's not much in the way of games that would qualify for the old BOGO's or even that 3/$15 or 5/$25 like they had last fall. Not to mention Dish must not pay any attention to gaming news, since pre-owned copies of Uncharted 3 were still marked $29.99.

Not only that but they had ZERO copies of most of the newer releases. Although, as expected they had almost a full row of fuckin' Madden. Oh and it's $2.99 for the first night with some 'blue carpet' rental bs I guess they're promoting now.:whistle2:#

Oh well. RIP Blockbuster. And Dish can suck the big one as far as I'm concerned.

Combo pass ftw

Well until my local BBV closes down lol
Combo pass ftw

That's great if you rent stuff regularly. But there's not many games or movies I really want to play or watch nowadays that I don't just wait until they hit their absolute lowest price I've seen and then pick them up.

If I've gone to even Redbox and rented a movie more than 3x since they really got wide distribution(and they're oversaturated around here imo), then it's a miracle.:D

Combo pass is nice, but they only get 3-4 copies of each game. By the time I get off work all copies are gone which nobody returns till month later. I'm stuck with Gamefly playing old games as I never get new releases.

I must be really lucky then. I've been able to rent Spec Ops: The Line, Sleeping Dogs, Transformers FOC, and currently Madden 13 over the last month. I don't mind waiting it out for a copy since it usually takes me a week or two to get through a game.

I honestly only have a passing interest in either TF: FOC or Sleeping Dogs and most of the rest of the stuff that's come out recently I'd likely wait for a $5-10 price on at BB after @Gamer coupon so at least I own them.

I can't figure out why it's so important for you to own the games because from what I see you usually trade them in anyway. Sure it's nice if you can make a buck or two but in the end most games are rentals if you end up trading them in. One month when I was off work I rented 25 games in 30 days from Blockbuster with the $15 Pass, and yes I finished a majority of them ;). Would I have rather owned a few of them instead of rushing through? Sure, but i couldnt argue with the price and value of it.

At least if I own them then I can go through them on my own time schedule. But you're right, I do trade in a majority of what I buy, but that's largely only if they have actual value left. If they have zero trade value anywhere then I'll keep them.

you should pass on the new transformers fall of cybertron, the sp is short, it is basically a $10 game.

Who says I can't enjoy the games on my own time with the combo pass? I played Dragon's Dogma for a month before I got another game. Besides I just can only have one out a time. Or get a movie if I'm not in a gaming mood.

Also carne asada fries are delicious.

I was there on Friday. The sale was nothing great. BD's $9.99 and under were 4 for $20 until a few days ago (and before that they were 5 for $20) which during this sale makes them the exact same price. There were a few I saw marked at $6.99 making them $3.50. Saw 4, Max Payne and the Nicholas Cage Bad Lieutenant remake. Sex & The City: It Won't Die aka The Movie was $6.99 or less, I'm forgetting or wiped it from my mind.

I saw no framed art or posters. I didn't pay attention to the DVD's but while walking through the store did notice a season of Weeds and some other tv shows marked at $15 so $7.50 each may not be too bad.

After getting the first game at launch and hating it because I ran outta ammo frequently I'm likely going to wait till it's at least a $20 game if not less than that.

Eh. I just don't like renting games. Especially since there's so few games I really want to play nowadays.:whistle2:#

well, my closest store is now closing. I went and found a few things yesterday on the first day of their closing sale, but they are only clearing things out for 2 weeks. Not much worth going back for.

Looking at the store locator, another relatively local store has disappeared, too. I'm not sure how much longer they can hold on.

Here in the southeastern United States we have a supermarket called Publix. A couple of years ago all the local stores received what best can be described as "Bluebox" units. They were renting machines similar to Redboxes but with the name "Blockbuster Express".

For some reason they decided to put all of these machines inside the stores, so if you wanted to return/rent movies it could only be done during the store's operating hours. They also charged more than Redbox, especially on Blu Rays, and did not carry video games.

I received an email stating that the machine I've been frequenting will be removed permanently in a week. If Blockbuster can't sustain self operating machines, then I think it's time to ring the death toll.

Good riddance I say. I hated how Blockbuster would move into a location, lower their prices to drive all the local mom and pop chains out of business, then raise them back up to $5.00 and higher as soon as they killed off their competition. It may seem strange to some of you, but there was a time when we didn't have the world wide web and the only way we could enjoy porn was videos or magazines. The local mom and pop store by my house back in 1998 had a backroom where you could browse adult entertainment. Not at Blockbuster though. You can only see people getting killed, not ShaqFu'ed. And does anyone else remember the ridiculous rewind fees they'd charge you if you forgot to rewind your videocassettes? I'm not going to miss this chain at all.

Sounds like you missed out on this news from earlier this year: http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-5...ys-$100-million-for-ncrs-blockbuster-express/

Yeah, those "Blockbuster Express" machines aren't owned by Blockbuster/Dish, it was just a licensing deal to use the "Blockbuster" name on them.

Blockbuster video was the Walmart of the movie industry?! I never made the connection until now.

Guess all the mom and pop stores had closed up in my area about 20 years ago. There was only Blockbuster video stores near me, unless you want to count the video rental section of grocery store as a mom and pop store. Those were the closest non-Blockbuster video store that I knew about.

So, Blockbuster (B&M stores that is) found a way to screw me over from the grave.

You remember that big clerarance sale they had 1-2 years back, with controllers and headsets and points cards 90% off? Well, I got one of those PS3 Lava Glow controllers. I finally, just today, opened it up since I've been trading my Dual Shock 3's in to Gamestop ($42 each using the preorder promo which I'm using on a couple of Wii U games I'd buy from them anyway). I thought my 4 year-old could use the Lava Glow instead of the old DS3 that is starting to show its age.

Well, I realized the damn thing was not sealed and while the controller is in there and looks brand new, the receiver (dongle) is missing. fuck! So now I guess I have a pretty $3 paperweight (it has blue liquid in the handles and such) to give my 2 year-old to pretend to play along with her older brothers ;). The waste of $3 doesn't bother me, but that means I probably can't trade a second DS3 in for $42 at GS since I don't have a replacement for it like I had thought.

In other news, that Blockbuster online thing (the 6 free months glitch) is working out decently enough. I have yet to get a game from it, but I've gotten a few DVDs that Netflix doesn't have so that has been nice. I haven't even bothered with the store exchange option and I don't even know if the last few remaining stores in my metro area are even open any more. I haven't been to a BBV in 6 months or more.

Sorry to anyone who read this thread thinking maybe there was some BBV game sale news. Please go back to ignoring Blockbuster!

I have a copy of Bayonetta from the glitch...been playing it for over a month. Cheapest rental ever!!! I don't know if I ever will get another game thru the mail from them because of the lack of availability but even if it is only this one game...YOU CAN'T BEAT FREE!

io, I will admit you got my hopes up.

But on the subject of the free 6 months of rentals, can we exchange for games in store? I looked online & it only seems to say you can exchange movies in store. It wouldn't be a whole lot different for me, as I've only gotten 2 games in so far. Annnnd now good games, that I actually want to buy, are starting to come out. But still, it would be nice.

You can only exchange for games that are 99 cent rentals

RIP blockbuster. My last local store closed today. There were actually games left at 50% off, which surprised me, I got KH Re:coded for $2.50. My wife found a few movies, but there was really not much left.

yeah, the one down the street from me just put up a now closing sign and will close at the end of October.

Ill be there few days before!

it's worth checking fairly soon just to see what they have - there were some games that were not a horrendous deal even when they were 20% off. There may be some out of print DVDs that are worth picking up as well.

I actually did check it out the day I found out "about 2 weeks ago" only thing I got was Alice Madness Returns ps3 for $12 and some change.
50% off previously viewed movies from 9/25-10/1

Although if the sale started 2 days ago why am I getting the e-mail now?
Because DISH is a well-oiled machine

Anyway, with the free 6 month trial thing...I have been able to get Bayonetta, beat it, and then returned in-store. I wanted to make sure those bastards did not say they never received it. Anyway, Dragon Age (the first one) is supposedly on its way. I went ahead and put over 50 Xbox 360 games in my queue. Of those, 3 are available for shipment. HAHA! So glad I am not paying for this turd.

:lol:That sounds like those frickin' Rocketfish controllers I bought from BB a few years back for $10 each. As it turns out, at least fifty percent of them were defective either almost immediately or after some usage. Unfortunately one of the defective ones turned out to be one I sent to a fellow CAG that I believe they said they used for a lil bit before it started acting up.:whistle2:# The other one being the one I was using as a beater controller for games like God Of War III and GTA IV, which started having a wonky R2 button(controller kept thinking it was being pressed when I wasn't even touching the damn button).

That makes me wonder about those damn PSP Go's I have now, since that's another $100 sitting here collecting dust that I should really somehow test to assure they work before the warranty(if any is left) is gone from Sony. But they're worth so much more sealed/new versus used.:booty:;)

Anyway, back to ignoring Blockbuster even still exists.:D

I traded in mass effect 3 360 today at a blockbuster gamerush that is still open near to me. It traded in for $22.

Blockbuster is a Blockbuster killer. And I guess
Dish no longer has plans to use Blockbuster as a nationwide video streaming or DVD-by-mail service, Ergen said.

means Blockbuster Online is going to finally be put out of it's misery.

So what this means is essentially we'll see more and more store closings until Dish has done what Blockbuster themselves would've likely done a year ago already with the condition they were in(i.e. shuttering the entire chain ala Hollywood Video:whistle2:#).

Funny because I was just about to post in here that Blockbuster Online seems to have lifted the 2 per month limit on discs from that 6 month free trial. They have been sending me stuff more frequently. Figures it will probably die soon now...

I'm not sure they lifted it, as I never had the limitation to begin with.
