Holy SHIT!!!!!!

Did anyone check PWTorrents lately!?!>!??!?R!@EOINFIU@#BRVEW

I'm freakin' stoked! I was down to a share ratio of .51% (they ban you at 50%), and apparently they were hacked a few days ago, so they gave everyone on the site 50gb of upload to their ratio!!!

Talk about a fucking merry christmas!!

yesssssssssssssss!!!!!

I decided to watch OVW instead of ECW tonight. Good show, recapping the feud between the Untouchables (kinda "Grease," kinda Andrew Dice Clay) and Cody Runnels and Shawn Spears. Fearless Jack Bull enlisted the help of CM Punk (!) to fight Joey Mercury and Idol Stevens...and Paul Birchall won a battle royal for a shot at the OVW title (leading to a three-way feud with champ Jacob Duncan, Chet "The Jet" Jablonski, and Birchall). And some shoot-fight dude named Boris Alexiev debuted; he looked good, but he's covered in jailhouse-quality tattoos. It's one thing to have nice work like Batista, Mysterio or others, but when you look like you got worked on at the GG Allin school of tattoo, you might not get a shot in the WWE. I've been wrong before.

OVW is really the wrestling highlight of my week - and they're coming to Cincy (it's a fucking hour drive for them, so I can't figure out why they haven't tried it before) on 1/6 w/ $5 tickets! The only downside is that it's in the outskirts of the really shitty (i.e., high-murder rate) part of town, so I won't be able to ride my bike there. Oh well, it's in January, so what would I be doing on a bike anyway?

Didn't watch ECW. I'd like to go out of my way to avoid it, if at all possible, save for the occasional good Punk match and to stare at Ariel for a moment.

Does Pwtorrents have it?

EDIT: That's a great video, sporadic. Makes me want to see more of him. I can't stand those skinny-ass punk rocker jobbers in OVW (Johnny Punch and Pat Buck), so I had a hard time watching Alexiev's match. He looks even better now.

After that, Guttman does the weekly reader-voted Moment of Insanity and then sends us over to part two for the interview with Bad News Brown.

Part Two of Radio Free Insanity begins with “Bad Leroy Brown“ by Jim Croce. James mentions that it’s not “Bad News Brown” but close enough. He says the song always reminded him of Bad News Brown anyway.

James says that the full, uncut interview with Brown lasted for 36 minutes and is available right now on ClubWWI.com. JG says that besides what you’ll hear on the show today, Bad News also talks about the promise Vince McMahon broke to him, how “No Holds Barred: The Movie” was supposed to play a part in Brown’s career, why his LJN action figure never came out, today’s wrestling product, the high mortality rate of young wrestlers today, the storyline that his wife hated, how that played a part in his WWF departure, his matches against Hulk Hogan, thoughts on Hogan, being recognized by fans, and much more. With that, Guttman cues up the interview.

JG welcomes Bad News Brown to the show. Brown thanks him and Guttman jumps right in. He says he grew up in New York and saw Bad News as a kid. James mentions that Bad News was Bad News long before WWF. He was Bad News Allen before that. He asks Allen how that gimmick came about. Brown says that he started in New Japan and Antonio Inoki decided to make him a heel. He thought Allen had good facials. They tried to think of a name and finally chose “Bad News,” which was a nickname he had from judo.

James asks about his judo accomplishments and Bad News says he did it for 14 years. He won an Olympic bronze medal and two gold medals in the Pan-American games. Guttman says it must have been hard to transition from the hard-hitting world of judo to professional wrestling. Bad News says it was tough and that the people were different too. JG brings up a quote from when Scott Steiner was on the show and said that fans would be shocked to see how some of the “tough guy” wrestlers were backstage. Brown says that’s true. He mentions that the nicest people he ever met were the heels, while most “baby faces behind the scenes were real assholes.”

Guttman brings up WrestleMania IV and the battle royal. Bad News Brown was the catalyst for turning Bret Hart into a good guy by destroying his trophy. He asks Allen about the angle. Bad News says that he had worked with Bret in Canada and was used to him. He knew Hart was “a prima donna and a crybaby,” but figured they could make money. Allen was there for his “bankbook” but Bret was there for his ego. Brown says that one day he told him:“Look, man. You’re not the World Champ. You’re the promoter’s champ, OK? So just be happy that you’re making money.”

Bad News says he was never satisfied with that, though. Bret had to be number one. Brown says he didn’t care about any of that. He says they could let Hart beat him every night, as long as they paid him.

JG says he’s always been intrigued by that aspect of the business - wrestlers who can’t walk away from their gimmicks when the show is over. Bad News tells a story about how one time Bret Hart had pointed to Shawn Michaels and said, “Outside the ring, he’s (Michael) Hickenbottom, but Bret Hart is Bret “The Hitman” Hart 24 hours a day.” Brown says that some guys don’t realize that they’re playing part. James says that some people must be missing something and use wrestling to fill a need in their life. Bad News figures some people don’t work hard. Someone, like Vince McMahon, makes them a corporate champion and then they believe their own “B.S.”

Guttman asks Brown what wrestlers he enjoyed hanging out with in WWF when he was there. He names Rick Ride, Slick, Haku, and Barbarian. He mentions liking Rick Rude the most and how he traveled with him for a while.

Guttman then mentions the infamous match between Bad News and Roddy Piper at WrestleMania VI where Piper painted himself half black. James says it was racist in a confusing way. Brown says he had worked with Piper in the past. He knew where Roddy was coming from:

“That’s his mindset. The guy’s a total bigot. I figured he wanted to do it, so go ahead and do it. I figured some of the brothers would get a hold of him and beat the crap out of him.”

Brown went on to say that when Dusty Rhodes debuted his manager, Vince McMahon called her “Sapphire.” Bad News thought it was an insult to his people. He asked Vince why he’d want to insult his fans when their money was as good as anyone else’s. That’s when he changed her name to “Sweet Sapphire.” Brown says that when the Piper angle came up, he said they could do it. That way the people can see what Vince and Roddy “were really about.”

James brings up how wrestlers today like to do highspots for the sake of highspots. Bad News says that he always tried to wrestle in a way that he would if he was in a street fight. He figures that no one would do any triple flips in a street fight. JG says that they could, but they’d be flipping off the pavement.

Guttman brings up how fans look back that the 80s and the flashy characters, but the matches made more sense then. Bad News says that the art of good guy vs. bad guy is gone and mentions a match he had with Hulk Hogan at Nassau Coliseum. When he came out, the people went crazy. He didn’t even have to do anything. You don’t see that today because wrestlers go from good to bad too often. Plus, there’s no kayfabe or psychology. It’s all about how many moves you can do.

James asks about the constant turning. He mentions how Lex Luger was criticized for turning too often in the 80s. Now it’s happening all the time. Also, wrestlers are having the same feuds over and over again. Bad News says that if a person comes in as a heel, he should be a heel for his whole run. If he works another territory, he can switch. Yet when you’re in a program, you should stay in you character. Brown also says that titles mean nothing today and looks at when Vince McMahon put it on himself as the day it lost its luster.

Guttman brings up World Wrestling Insanity: The Book and how he talked about the changes in the characters of all the McMahons. He says that without kayfabe, you can do silly things like make stars super-human even though they debuted as weak characters. Bad News says the heel should come in and beat everyone until people are clamoring to see him fight the champion. Today, though, everyone flips back and forth too often to do that.

Brown says that while Vince McMahon is a marketing genius but has done “more harm than good” for the business. He says that Vince has “some sick ideas.”

Bad News Brown is one of my favorite people ever now. I'll even forgive that awful storyline where he kept the mutant rat in a cage when feuding with Jake Roberts.

"The Spoiler" Don Jardine passed away today. He was a big man known for a bloody claw ropewalk that was banned from TV in numerous territories, and was walking the ropes decades before Taker.

There's the audio interview. I'm listening to it because I can't figure out why "Sapphire" was a racist name for a character, but "Sweet Sapphire" was somehow ok. I think the person summarizing the show didn't characterize the conversation so well in that part, b/c it makes no sense.

I'm glad he mentioned the Piper shit at WMVI; it always made me really uncomfortable to watch Piper doing that shit. I hope he eventually did get his ass kicked for it (and you gotta respect Brown for not pulling punches on speaking honestly about Piper even though he's kind of a sympathetic individual right now, what with being in the hospital and all that).

I'm not sure why "Sapphire" was racist ( the film Sapphire, maybe? ), but "Sweet Sapphire" wasn't any less racist -- It was ok with Brown because "That way the people can see what Vince and Roddy 'were really about.'"

That fact that Vince is coupled in that quote, with Piper, correlates to McMahon wanting to name her Sapphire, and the "compromising" with "Sweet Sapphire".

I think it was more of a "whatever" from Brown, but with the bonus that Vince is letting he true colors show.
Never heard of the film "Sapphire." I'll have to imdb it.
I just looked into it, and that's definitely not it.

I heard that it was a racial film, but it appears to deal with commonwealth immigrants in the UK.

My second guess would be the ol' "so black that they're purple" slur.

Are you talking about dem crack heads that smoke till they're blue/purple? Dey sure be funny :whistle2:D That's how you get cheap brand name Nike's around here!

Figured it out (thanks, American National Socialist Party Website!): Sapphire was the female character on the Radio/TV show Amos n' Andy.

Looks like I not only wasn't kidding when I mentioned that they should create a character from old shows like that the other day - I was 16 years behind, but not kidding.

MNM!!!!

4 WAY TAG LADDER MATCH 4 THE TAG TITLES!!!

cool to see hardy and london and kendrick face off

also mnm and regal/taylor

-.. what an awesome match,,

mercury is down... ladder to the face.. may have broken nose.. rushed to hospital sucks..

cmon nitro1!!

edit... london and kendrick retain

Yes, and this is the final show of the month-long string of MMA/wrestling PPVs. So Mercury basically killed himself in a match that wasn't advertised on TV two days ago. Brilliant move, WWE. MVP lost the inferno match, which was obviously what was going to happen given his ring attire.
What happened with this match?
kane won

man some guy in the crowd keeps yellin you suck at kennedy during his opening smack talk... its so funny

edit,, hees been doing it the whole match.. wtf.. how does it come out so clear

good match so far...

that crazy guy screamin is nuts

OMG what a bump taker just took off the armegeddon set

THAT IN HURST VIEW OF KENNEDY AND TAKER WAS AWESOME

Wow...they totally change the tag team match from something that looked great to one that drips with shit. The Taylor/Regal stuff versus Kendrick/London had not only been a *great* contrast in wrestling styles, but also age/learning backgrounds. They could have made a lot more of this feud based on nothing more than the obvious (and enormous) contrasts between the two teams, but they fuck it up by (1) making it a ladder match (which makes the hooker style of Taylor and Regal useless in this match), and (2) inserting a bunch of fly-by-night tag teams that are on-again, off-again, and (3) failing to properly promote it.

Rarely am I upset that people get "more" than what they pay for, but adding to this match took away from two very unique teams with two very unique styles who had worked seamlessly in the ring for the past few weeks. fuckers.

I'm watching a tag match right now - Bobby Flay and Giada de Laurenitis versus Mario Batali and Rachel Ray. I don't know who the heel is, because I fuckin' hate both Flay and Ray. The duck confit looks fuckin amazing, however.

i definitely enjoyed the tag match....prob the match of the night..

had it been just the normal advertised tag match it would have not been that good. (not taking away anything from both teams). Just for the pure possibility of seeing hardys or mnm regain titles.. and to see regal/taylor and kendrick/london face off against mnm and hardys.

Taylor and regal were out of place but they did get a few spots in and nice moves. Im sure they will complain and get a rematch on smackdown or something.

Adding the two teams and a ladder made it infinite times better. Throwing two teams in to that title match was not expected and pure awesomeness on wwe's part. i applaud them for once.

The fans definitely got a nice suprise.

I wish they would of thrown some crazy stipulaton into this main event tag match however.

The accounts make it seem like a damned good match; nevertheless, we all know the Hardys and MNM aren't going to stay a team forevery, and there's no reason to think they'll win the titles on a show they aren't on.

I just enjoyed seeing the stuff they'd been doing for previous weeks, and hoped they'd follow through on it. From the sound of things, Taylor and Regal were an afterthought.

EDIT: WWE's saying that best-case scenario puts Mercury out of action for two months. That must have been a hell of a blow - just as he was beginning to pick up steam from his most recent return, too. This, of course, also puts the kibosh on his OVW feud with Fearless Jack Bull.

Wow, after reading the results of the tag match...

All I can say is whoever promoted this is a f*cking retard. I mean that as sincerely as possible too, an absolute f*cking retard. You're going to add a 4-way tag match with two high profile tag teams like MNM and The Hardyz, and not just a tag match, but a ladder match, and you opt not to promote this? F*cking brilliant!

Seriously did they think such a match would lower the buyrate? That makes no sense at all. I'm pissed because I would've liked to have seen that match, and had I known that was on the card I would've gone to b-dubs to watch the ppv, but no, WWE is in-ept in every way, shape and form.

Seriously, how can you be that f*cking dumb? Maybe at the next ppv we can just have an Acolyte reunion in a HITC match out of nowhere, not advertised or anything, because we know that wouldn't draw buys.

I seriously doubt there is a bottom to the well of stupidity that those in charge, at WWE, drink from.

No, I don't know why I picked the Acolytes, that was just the first halfway decent team that popped into mind that could possibly be reunited on WWE TV.

yea while it may have been a stupid move by wwe not to advertise it...

it was a win for ppl watching or attending..i miss unpredictable wrestling..

i didnt think either mnm or hardys win the match but you never know.. it would of been a strange outcome. Atleast london and kedrick got some credibility but i was hopin to see the straps change

lol

Well you could try to find a writing job somewhere else first, but you'd need 3 to 5 years experience to get one.

I know! Experience this, experience that, good luck finding a good job without either f*cking someone within the company, or being a relative.

I'm amazed that the shit writers on their staff got 3-5 years in the business without being blackballed from television, what with the shit they put out on WWE.

I can see it now: 2001-2004, script writer, "Judge Judy."

It is pretty much the old Chuck Berry song (can't get a car cuz I don't have a job...can't get a job cuz I don't have a car); I'm sure there's plenty of entry-level writing jobs, but not for prime-time television programming. I imagine entry-level stuff comes from working with people developing pilots, internships, and other work.

Update on Joey Mercury
By Zack Zeigler
December 17, 2006

mercnose.jpg

According to WWE Dr. Ferdinand Rios, MNM tag team member Joey Mercury suffered what seems to be a broken nose in Armageddon's Ladder Match with London & Kendrick, MNM, the Hardys and William Regal & Dave Taylor.
Mercury was rushed to the hospital after one of the ladders smashed him in the face and caused his nose to pour blood. He is currently undergoing a CT scan, as a surgeon awaits on standby.
"I can't give a prognosis because Mercury could have shattered his frontal bone," said Rios prior to the CT scan. "Hopefully there isn't any problem in his brain; that blow was so significant there could be some damage and we just couldn't tell without the CT scan."
Dr. Rios continued to say that without any complications, Mercury may need plastic surgery and two months to recover before returning to WWE action.

THIS IS HORRIBLE

THIS IS A WORK

(I hope. I think it's just WWE's way of writing him off when they couldn't come up with anything for him)

Actually.. doesn't sound like a work. They say that blood poured out and that his eye shut immediately.. i'm going to download the PPV just to see it. Hope everything is okay with him, I'm going to miss MNM/Hardyz ladder matches.
I demand you leave your job as a professor and join me in the quest to revive the WWE. We can be like Ed Ferrera and Vince Russo, only with less gay hair-dresser gimmicks, celebrity champions, and making fun of JR.
They'd have to hire me first. They would hire me, I'd offer some ideas up...and then I'd get fired because I would always suggest ways to develop storylines based on things that people can emotionally get attached to (and I'm damn good at that, and truth be told, is something my profession helps me with greatly), and also character development for non-main event guys.

They'd say "you want to do what with Chris Masters, that doesn't involve him posing on stage or putting people in the Masterlock? BLASPHEMY!"

First thing I'd do is turn CM Punk heel by having him align with some of the "ECW Originals," such as Sabu, RVD, and Sandman. At the end of the hour on Tuesday, after your typical show-ending balls-out brawl (don't they happen every Monday Tuesday Thursday and Friday?), in a post-match celebration, Sandman's tossing out the beers, and despite Punk's insistence that he's cool without one, Sandman, in a playful joking mode, decides to pour one on Punk's head.

Well, of course, Punk becomes irate - but RVD and Sabu calm him down, to some degree. As a sign of peacemaking, the next week Punk asks Sandman to be by his side when they take on the team of Terkay and Burke. Of course, the match ends with Terkay and Burke winning, as Punk lays out the Sandman before the match even starts (beating him with his own cane). Punk enters full heel mode, pulling the "I'm straight edge, and that means I'm better than you" promos. He spends the next few weeks discussing his body discipline, and how it extends beyond sXe. Talking about how people fail to treat themselves as well as he does (which is easy in a crowd of people stuffing beers, hot dogs, and cotton candy into their maws), he can be assured that the crowd (we're still working with a WWE Smackdown crowd, so I don't believe you'll get that ECW fan "we love his work so we'll never boo him" bullshit) will turn on him. An extended series with the Sandman should culminate in more than an "extreme rules" match; at this point, Sandman isn't taking anymore shit, and is going after Punk. Spitting beer in Punk's face in the middle of a match would cause Punk to lose via count-out (yes, in today's ECW that would work), as he runs off to the back to clean himself off. Let them get the best of each other, but also reinforce that Punk wants nothing to do with Sandman - cowardly heel style. He'll beat him up if he has the opportunity, but he doesn't want to bring himself down to the level of fighting a filthy drunk and a lousy excuse for a human being.

So, give them a cage match, or better yet, whatever the hell ECW called the match where they had to climb a ladder to get all the barbed wire and use it on their opponent (it was Sandman and Cactus Jack if memory serves). Set something up for a PPV: it makes Sandman look resilient, gives WWE fans a heel they hate (they hate him because they *want* to cheer for him, but can't since he's such an asshole to them), and keeps Punk out of the title scene so they can push Lashley to the moon.

Short story long, they'd fire me in a week for giving that much thought to a nobody like Punk. Instead, they'd want me to put in 60 hours a week working on Lashley, only to have all my ideas shot down in favor of "the new ECW commissioner keeps trying to screw over Lashley, but he always prevails" character development. Like origami, but without all the folding.
