Brodus Clay was pre-Superstars dark match vs. someone in pink tights (Heels wear pink, you know) accompanied by Abraham Washington. Even Funkasaurus halfassed it for the dark match, and he only had one of the dancers with him.[/QUOTE]

I see what you did there...

If Matt Young still reads this, there's a meet and greet this weekend in Industry, CA for a bunch of legends. Heenan, Jake Roberts, Roddy Piper, Orndorff, Bob Orton, One Man Gang, Missy Hyatt and Tatanka will be there.

These videos are a group of guys doing an MST3k act on No Holds Barred. Usually anything in that category is awful, but although it's hardly perfect I actually got some laughs out of this (yes, I eventually watched the whole thing...a lot of the funny stuff is later on in the film). My main gripe is they laugh too much at their own stuff, but this is significantly better than most MST3k stuff done by non-MST3k cast.

Here's part 1, the rest of 'em are similarly named.

...if you watch it, that's Demolition Ax as the opponent in the opening match.

"We incorporated Sports Legacies ten days before the Benoit tragedy. A year prior to that I sat down with Benoit when I was still working for (WWE) and he just started asking me questions," Nowinski said on the "Busted Open" satellite radio show. "He was more interested than any other wrestler, which helps me realize that he actually knew there was something wrong with him. He asked me about how many concussions I had and I asked him and he said, “'Well, I had more concussions than I can count”.' So, because he told me that and then he told me to give him a call. I remember months later... I called him and he acted like he didn'’t know why I was calling after he gave me his number. So, I thought maybe there was a memory thing or maybe a mood thing going on. So, when it happened, I was sure that is why it happened."

Chris Nowinski on Chris Benoit. Absolutely tragic, and totally believable.

Random thought: Dolph Ziggler should be jobbing a lot less. Between last night and jobbing "four times" in the Royal Rumble main event, it doesn't seem like he's going to continue to be taken seriously by fans at this rate.

Orndorff? No shit. I was just watching some old WCW Saturday Nights and wondered what happened to him. He just sort of vanished.

WWE is the only federation where the heels are the underdog.

Wha..wait. There are people that actually take Dolph Ziggler seriously now?

Dude's a goddamned good wrestler. Sorry he didn't spend time earning $50 a match in ROH so that you could fall in love with him before he hit WWE.

Ohhh snap!

Ziggler's stuck with a corny name, but I'll be damned if he can't work a solid match with anyone on the roster. He's going to be absolutely huge if he can stay healthy - the comparisons to Hennig or Michaels aren't too far off.

The name "Dolph Ziggler" fits the persona and look quite well.

I despise his name. He's good enough (or he's held the name long enough) that its ridiculousness has diminished a bit over time. When you're working with guys named Triple H, CM Punk, and The Undertaker, it's hard to take criticism seriously if they're telling you your name is goofy.

When they give horrible names to guys with name value (Hennig, Rotundo) that are kick-in-the-dick bad, that bothers me more. Anybody who thinks that "McGillicuty" would do anything other than sandbag Joe Hennig's chances at success should be shot in the face.

WWE uses proprietary names so that their employees "independent contractors" can't use their name on the indies, in TNA or ROH, to make money - even if it's the wrestler and not the company who gives value to the name (see also: Fake Razor and Diesel, which WWF actually thought would work).

Some guys get away and take on better names. D'Angelo Dinero is, to me, much better than Elijah...Burke? I actually can't seem to recall his WWE name, so that speaks to that. Giant Bernard is an awesome name, and much better than Prince Albert or A-Train.

But, since WWE will never try to stop exploiting workers protecting their intellectual property, they should at least take it upon themselves to provide respectable names. The best names they come up with today are largely inoffensive and forgettable. Seth Rollins is fine - it's not "Husky Harris" or "Ken Dykstra," but it's not the kind of name that I think people will remember.

In regards to the Dolph Ziggler comment. The matches can only be as good as the person in there with you...and there's a shortage. That's why he and Cody Rhodes are getting pushed out of the mid-card and being utilized so much...cause most of the time, they're the ones really carrying the matches with the better established sooperstars and they're the ones making them look like a million bucks.

Speaking of wrestling names and the changing of, was I the ONLY person who hated Johnny Nitro's name change to John Morrison?

Also: LOATHED his most recent entrance theme. God awful.

The Ryder/Ziggler US Title match from TLC in December was very fun and enjoyable. I know that's only one match, but I liked it.

Elijah Burke is his real name.

He had at least one awesome match against Kane that I saw. He can absolutely go.

I actually really liked that change because he needed to stop being "that one guy from MNM" and start fresh. Plus he's one of those guys that absolutely needs to have a character to work with.

Once he stopped being "John Morrison: wrestling Jim Morrison" and became "John Morrison: Parkour Enthusiast" he lost a lot of what made people love/hate him.

Both of these are certainly more convincing than anything he said as Johnny Nitro or face John Morrison.

If you guys could be so kind as to spread this around and vote, Joseph Meehan is in the finals for hosting MLB's Fan Cave contest. Out of 22,000 entries, MLB narrowed it down to 50 who will duke it out for a chance to cover the upcoming MLB season and watch all 2000+ games this year.

You, of course, may know him better as "Magnum" Joey Ryan.

Haha, I was just going to post that here too. Would be pretty sweet to see his reaction if/when he wins, he's a huge baseball fan.

In all honesty, I have never watched a RoH broadcast since it has never been on air in my area. It isn't an issue of something like that to me anyways. To me the issue is the god awful moniker that WWE stuck him with. Yes, he is a solid performer. Yes, he could prolly have a damn good match with a broom. However, every damn time i see him I can't help but remember 6 months of him introducing himself to everyone and trying to shake their hand. Maybe in time I can, I mean shit, i am finally past him being in the Spirit Squad.......

Nope, that fucking sucked. Johnny Nitro was way better. Morrison was especially bad with the Doors gimmick. That name is still Dolph Ziggler-level corny.

The only time I really enjoyed Nitro was when he was Bischoff's little protege and came out to the Monday Nitro theme. That didn't last too long.

I always got a great since of enjoyment out of that. I have no idea why but it was always good times.

I got over that goofy name-dropping/hand-shaking gimmick once I saw this match:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13XxWxUGAxo

And then once I saw some of the promos he cut on Ryder's youtube show, I knew he had what it took to be a top guy in the company.

He's got a decent shot since it's based off of fan votes - every wrestler on Twitter's been shilling for him, so he gets to all their followers by proxy. I'd love to see Joey win.

Source: The UK Sun
As noted last weekend, Hulk Hogan spoke to The Sun on a number of topics including creative control, Ultimate Warrior, not losing to Shawn Michaels in 2005, the Montreal Screwjob and more. Regarding Hogan's use of creative control dating back to his time with World Championship Wrestling, he said, "People say 'Hogan, you have this creative control clause?' and I say 'yeah, but the only time I've ever exercised it in 30 years is when Vince Russo screwed me'. And it didn't even help then! I got screwed and couldn't do anything about it!
"Nowadays, we have a working relationship. I would have bet my bottom dollar that we wouldn't work together again. There was a point in time where if I was to go to TNA it was him or me. The truth is Eric Bischoff sold me on it. Eric had met with Vince and explained to me how things were different and we should sit down to talk."

As soon as he beat the piss out of Khali with a steel chair on Smackdown (that feels so long ago), I knew Ziggler was going places. Who really gives a shit if he was in the Spirit Squad or if he was introducing himself? He's a stellar performer NOW, which is what matters.

It's the same thing with Mark Henry. Saddled with ridiculous shit, but he made you forget that instantly with his work recently.

Like Survivalism said, it's his real name so of course D'Angelo Dinero is a better in ring name. I agree with you about Albert too.

But it's still a damn shame that WWE cut Shelton Benjamin and Elijah Burke. Those guys are awesome to watch in the ring when given the opportunity to shine.

This is probably my favorite match from WWE's ECW revival:

The only good part of the whole "Dolph Ziggler introduces himself constantly" gimmick was that the Zig Zag was called "The First Impression".
