The continuing adventures of improperly reported posts!
I keep toying with the idea of reporting a random post and saying something lame like "hey guys, want some sandwiches?"

But i haven't and probably won't. You're welcome.
one time defender was complaining about how the messages annoy him, so i reported his post as a joke, it went over pretty well, but we had a user yesterday report a post as a joke and it was most lame. if you can make it funny without a doubt, no problem, but dont be lame about it.

I've been reporting Omega's posts because IMO they are spam, should I not do that? [/serious question]
fucking people on the internet are some of the stupidest in existence.
Not true, they just have an outlet for it. The people who can't figure out the internet are obviously even stupider, but they don't manage to demonstrate it.

right before i read this i had just finished accidentaly doing it, i feel ashamed but it made the topic funnier

I like the people that e-mail magazines asking for their e-mail address.

OK, another bump.

Everyone has been very good about reporting spam and the like, but it only needs to be reported once. So, we're asking that anyone who reports a spam thread to please post in the thread that you have done so; that way, any other user can see that the problem has been addressed and won't re-report it. Thanks in advance.

I don't suppose the report button could be changed so a post can only be reported once?

It's a bit confusing when you say don't respond to spam, but post if you report it. At the same time normally they drop 6 different threads at once so should all of them be reported or just the first one you see posted?

To my knowledge, no, there's no way to change how it's reported without hacking the software, which Cheapy doesn't want to do.

I don't mind it being bumped to have someone say that they reported it. What I DO mind is the requisite first few posts of "Oh, not this again..." and "IB4TL!!!" To those of you who waste your time doing that, you're just bumping the topic for no good reason. If you're gonna bump it, report it first and have your stupid post include the fact that it's been reported.

Also, report each thread that you see, even if it's an exact dupe of another one (which they usually are). Just remember to post that you have in fact reported it.

Ok, looks like we need another bump, since some of you are either illiterate or too thick to understand it the first dozen times it's been said:

If a spam thread appears, report the post, post ONCE in the topic stating that you have reported the post (to help prevent people from reporting a thread multiple times), and LET IT DIE.

I know everyone just loooooooves to throw in their 2 cents and make the same jokes that people make every time a spam thread occurs, but it gets old REALLY GODDAMN FAST. So please, do the mods this one favor, and STOP NEEDLESSLY BUMPING SPAM TOPICS WITH LAME JOKES AND IB4TL POSTS, YOU SAD PATHETIC LITTLE CHILDREN.
You gotta admit though, that pic Quackzilla posted in one of those threads was hilarious.
Granted, but seeing a spam topic with 9 replies makes my head a'splode.
Also, report each thread that you see, even if it's an exact dupe of another one (which they usually are). Just remember to post that you have in fact reported it.
I just saw this part in the last post... do you still want us to report every thread? I've only been reporting one. I'm not sure if you guys wanted 6 emails about the same problem.
Granted, but seeing a spam topic with 9 replies makes my head a'splode.
Eww, gonna have to call The Wolf for clean up after that one.

I think you should or else we may miss one. Just be sure to post that it's been reported, because e-mails for 6 different topics = ok. 6 e-mails for the same fuckING TOPIC fuckING SUCKS.

^^^What he said. Please report each DIFFERENT topic, because like Sneaky said, we may see one and miss the other.

Not a bad deal.

When someone makes a stupid report, PM them this picture:

ngbbs4250630d86f25.gif

I think having the report button next to the online/offline status is only going to make this more common. It would make more sense to have that button next to quote, as it is a post related function.

While putting the report button near the edit/quote buttons might be a good idea, I really feel that if you mistake the Report Bad Post option for some kind of messaging, clearly there is little hope for you, no matter where things are placed.

True, though if the button actually said "Report" or "Report Post" you might see a slight drop in these incidents. That is, if these people can read in the first place.

If anyone continues to mis-use the button, they should be at least temp-banned.

On an off-note: untill now I had no idea we had an report bad post button, most of the time I'd just PM a mod
I report every spam thing I see, is that bad?
i must admit that i do report a spam thread from time to time without posting in the thread that i reported it....but seeing how a mod is usually on at any given time, i figured the thread would be locked before too many other people have a chance to report it

please don't spank me too hard....i'll be good, i swear

I'm sorry to hear stupidity sometimes comes with cheapness.

However, Cheapy, this is common with large, thriving message boards. For every smart member (the quackzillas, sweeneys, etc.), there's probably two stupid people to take their place. Some of those stupid people can't seem to fluctuate properly, either, and make stupid mistakes over and over... until they can't be called 'mistakes', but 'annoyances'.

Well that didn't take long did it?
Well that didn't take long did it?
Hey, I've only been doing that to people that deserve it. So far that's spammers, JimmieMac (in retaliation), and now him, who is purposely doing something every mod (and Cheapy) has said pisses them off.
must you roll your eyes at everything i post?
No, since that would be quite a few posts. :D

that's the way I've done it for probably 95% of the time when I report bad posts. I just hit the button, say spam or whatever is the reason for it, and send it out. Hopefully I haven't sent in a wrong thread or a thread that should have stayed open or made a mistake when using the report a post feature. If I have then I would like to know by somebody (either in this thread or through a PM, doesn't really matter to me) so I can change for future instances.

i think changing the graphic of the reply button from an arrow to the word reply would decrese the number of these reported posts, i mean, a flippin arrow?
See, now people like Cracka here? These people are cunts. fucking slime on the heel of existence.
Pretty bad example of posting coming from a moderator.

Remember what a moderator is: moderator - someone who presides over a forum or debate

moderator - someone who mediates disputes and attempts to avoid violence
go-between, intercessor, intermediary, intermediator, mediator - a negotiator who acts as a link between parties
modifier - a moderator who makes less extreme or uncompromising

again: moderator - someone who mediates disputes and attempts to avoid violence
must you roll your eyes at everything i post?
He's an eye-rolling-smilie whore.
quackzilla is a smart member?
He must hide it well. Or maybe vs. mode just doesn't allow it to show.
you got the point, so why don't you do your job and tell mr. anderson to change his sig?
Wow, someone is a little touchy all of a sudden.

I saw said sig in question and he's been PM'd about it.

I think this thread should be stickied, and the OP pasted along with the rules. Anyone who makes a stupid report should be banned, as I am sure we could survive without the useless member.

The rules should be forced to read before being able to post. Oh, if there were only a way to make them take a test on the rules before being allowed to post. It sure would help filter board-illiterate people.

Yes, to follow the forum rules would be nice for folks to do.

From the FAQ of rules: Although the administrators and moderators of Cheap Ass Gamer will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author, and neither the owners of Cheap Ass Gamer, nor Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. (developers of vBulletin) will be held responsible for the content of any message.

By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

Perhaps the first step that some mods could take would be to 'attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum' by not posting them originally.

The '!' by the status is a bad idea... If a person shows up online, one might mistake it for a 'PM' button...I almost did.

Now that the report post button is right beside the quote button some people might just push it instead of the quote and claim it to have been an accident ;)
