The "Damn!" Wrestling topic!

I'm skeptical that it's as much on Vickie's leaving as some speculate - I think it's part that, part his knees, and part...well, I don't know what else. Maybe coming to his senses that WWE programming is a 5-hour weekly shitshow of court jesters that only serve to please His Royal Majesty King McMahon? And that wrestling is not what they do anymore?

I'm a bit hopefully naive about that.

There's no coincidence that Vickie wrestled a hog pen-themed mud wrestling match the day before her departure was announced, and I'm willing to attribute this to Mysterio's leaving.

They've embarrassed her for years.

I guarantee someone has been sent to essentially beg Rey not to leave. Not selling those masks would be a BIG hit in merchandising sales. I'll be disappointed not to see a Mysterio/Jericho program but no surprise to see him jump ship.
What? But what about the Chris Jericho/Mysterio fued? :(
Jericho defeats him for the IC Title and takes his mask off, like he promised, the end?

Mysterio has sucked ass for years anyway. He can't go anymore. I'm glad he's gone (if the rumor is true).
there's relevant stuff to talk about that ain't pretty - drug use, for instance. lex luger's an interesting guy (speaking of which, who watched the "round table" on the The Wrestler DVD and had their jaw on the fucking floor the whole time, with a thought of "THAT'S LEX LUGER!?!?!?" bouncing around your brain?)
I haven't seen that, but I did come across some shit on youtube with Luger giving his testimony. Apparently the guy is a born again Christian. I don't know the date of the video but it looked pretty recent. I was like, what the fuck? When this happen?

I think that, like any other cruiserweight, or high-flier, Mysterio 1.) wrestling in the WWE (period), and 2.) constantly wrestling big, dumb galoots nerfed his moveset, and consequently made him boring to watch.

That, and for me, his current appearance really bothers me, for some reason.
Dude's so covered in merch on his way to the ring that his entrance music ought to be a constant repetition of "GOT SOME NICE THINGS FOR SALE, STRANGER."
He looks like one of those guys walking through the area selling popcorn & cotton candy. "Step right up & get your Rey Rey mask. Get'em before I go out for another few months again."

On the subject of "The Wrestler", I saw it on ppv a cpl of weeks ago and immediately picked it up on blu-ray on the cheap off ebay a week or so ago. The wife & I sat down and watched just over half of it today. I haven't gotten around to the extras yet, but I'm definitely gonna check'em out.

I remember when Luger made on appearance on TNA. I believe it was a couple of years ago. I was like..."whoa! what happened to him". I believe he was wearing a turtle neck & a dress jacket. Definitely not the Lexy I remember.

Watching the Macho Man DVD. Overheard Gorilla saying that Hogan (in December 1985) made all the other "old-timer" champions "pale in comparison," I wondered if that was a veiled shot at Sammartino (but I guess I was wrong, as he was with the WWF until 1988).

But saw this on Bruno's wikipedia page. Uncertain of its authenticity, but it's pretty damned funny nonetheless:

On July 26, 2004, Sammartino met in Pittsburgh with Vince and WWE officials about doing a DVD release and providing commentary for WWE 24/7 Classics, but Sammartino would not agree to be a part of the current product. He was invited to stay for the Raw show that night, but declined because he did not want to be seen endorsing the product. He was told the main event was Chris Benoit vs. Triple H. He reportedly told them he would've stayed if Benoit was wrestling Kurt Angle; one of the people he said this to was Triple H, who he didn't know.

I was genuinely surprised when he was attacked by Jericho in a Rey mask. I Soooo did not see it coming. That was awesome!

CM Punk from the Greatest Stars of the 90s DVD:
"Lex Luger was a huge superstar because of the way he looked. He looked (throws up the quote marks with his fingers) like what a wrestler is supposed to look like. He had big muscles, he was tan, he smiled a lot and he had a mullet. They put him on a bus and he's going around the country and he's trying to kiss babies and shake hands. To me, as a kid, I just saw through that. I just thought that this guy was a total fraud." (Looks right at the camera) "Sorry, Lex"

HA!

You might be looking at Mysterio through shit-stained glasses. When Mysterio goes, he is still awesome. Mysterio/Edge was FANTASTIC. And even at the HITC at No Way Out, he was great.

When doesn't Punk try to make himself look cool? Just listening to his shoot he talks about how he always hung out with older kids, how he never talked to anyone at school because " they were all the same ". Now he's somehow saying that he somehow wasn't like all other kids, who like anything, while burying a veteran. Then there's " I wanted to call it Go To Hell, but they wouldn't let me, so I called it "Go 2 Sleep". Just something about the guy makes me want to punch him in the face.

TNA News from TNAWrestlingNews.com:

TNA will announce the 2009 Bound for Glory location at the Slammiversary PPV. Los Angeles, Dallas, and Minneapolis are apparently the cities/areas that are being considered.

Jeremy Borash has updated his Twitter page (Twitter.com/JeremyBorash) stating: Today doctors cleared Shawn Hernandez of L.A.X. to return to the ring. He recently underwent successful neck surgery. That's great news. Hernandez' medical clearance comes far sooner than previously expected.

It looks as if the second "TNA Global iMPACT! Special" will not be happening. The feeling is that Spike passed on the special.

LOL. Yeah. True. Remember the last promo he cut on Umaga right before Extreme Rules? "I'm not bigger than him, I'm not stronger than him. But there is one that I AM...I'm CM PUNK!" WTF?

LOL> Just read this:

"CNN.com reports that a Slim Jim factory exploded in North Carolina the same day as the Macho Man Randy Savage DVD release."

Nope. My glasses are clean. Guy has been balls boring for years now. I saw those matches and honestly I can't even remember a single thing from them.

his matches with evan bourne were fun and i remember when him and hbk faced miz and morrison on raw a couple those were all fun matches, they dont give him the chance to shine because hes so injury prone, hes a talented guy, really he is, vince just hates the high flying style

Mysterio was always pretty good, but I fucking hate the 619 and all of his finishers, outside the frog splash. That one actually sort of looked like a legit finisher.

At the very least, WWE is looking mighty interesting with all these departures lately. All we need is HHH to get hit with a career ending injury & for the board of directors to remove all power from the McMahon family and I might actually have faith in the product.

Problem with Mysterio is he's more "same old shit" than most guys. Gets his ass kicked the whole match, pulls out a headscissors, 619, west coast pop, pinfall. His frog splash is completely ridiculous as a finisher because he's 150 lbs - about as much impact as Hornswoggle's version.

Looks like he's not going anywhere - a couple of sites are reporting that he's just taking a little time off to rehab a (surprise!) knee injury that's been bugging him.

We are getting the Punk heel turn though - he's booked on Big Show's team for a bunch of house shows in July against Cena and Mysterio.

Going against Cena is about as heel as you can get these days...unless he gives ya the ol' "I'm a Stand-Up Guy" handshake afterwards.

Get your memory checked then. You're watching WWE with a chip on your shoulder. Mysterio can go about as well as Chris Jericho can.

Probably his GI Joe Cobra and Pepsi logo tattoos.

From PWTorch.com:

Ring of Honor's series of bi-montly PPVs will end after Friday's debut of the "Take No Prisoners" PPV that was taped on April 4 in Houston.

ROH does not have a future PPV taping scheduled and the company will shift its TV product focus onto the HDNet shows on Saturday nights.

"Take No Prisoners" will debut on InDemand and DirecTV in the U.S., but ROH is not advertising that the PPV will be available on DISH Network systems.

No surprise on ROH ditching PPVs. Honestly it made a big cluster fuck of a mess trying to follow the product with the story lines on the PPVs and TV not being in sync together.

Oh good, so I wasn't going compleely insane about that either. It was werid as hell hearing about matches and storylines through video wires that were barely acknowledged on television.

I love ROH, but when they pull shit like that it make the product really hard to keep up with.

Mysterio in WCW was MUCH more entertaining then Mysterio in WWE, however he was champ in WWE...I don't get it...

When the show was announced as doing 2-3 tapings at a time I was wondering how they would reconcile that with PPV's. Plus with their PPV's debuting on Friday nights not once did I ever remember it was on. Hopefully they'll start doing less bulk tapings so the show will be more current.
Mysterio in WCW was MUCH more entertaining then Mysterio in WWE, however he was champ in WWE...I don't get it...
He was champ on SD which has a large Latino audience. That's why he and Eddie spent so much time on that show. Putting the belt on him juiced the ratings and sent merchandise sales skyrocketing. Someone needs to put together a video of Rey walking down the aisle touching heads with all the kids with his masks on and insert a "cha-ching" sound effect every time he does that.

Honestly I never really get all the Rey hate that I see in various places online; I think he's the bees knees. He did have one of the worst-booked heavyweight title runs ever though! Sometimes I'll think people exaggerate how bad that reign was... but then I'll remember more of it and I'll be like "oh yeah, wow, that really WAS bad." Like once they had him wrestle RVD, who was WWE champ at the time (in a throwaway champion vs. champion match on some TV show). RVD laid a chair on Rey and went for the frog splash... as RVD jumped, Rey threw the chair off, then took a "normal" frog splash and got pinned clean anyway. It's like the booking went out of its way NOT to protect him!

Can you really blame me? :)

ROH MIGHT be doing PPVs in the future - their non-compete with G-Funk states that they can't do any for six months, but after that, they're free to work with anyone for them.

WWE.com posted the following this morning regarding the release of Umaga earlier this week:

As reported on WWE.com on Monday, June 8, 2009, WWE Superstar Umaga (Edward Fatu) has been released from his World Wrestling Entertainment contract.

However, consistent with the practice of announcing wellness policy violations, it should be noted that Umaga's termination was due to his second violation of the WWE Wellness Program and his subsequent refusal to attend a rehabilitation facility.

-The reason why Jerry Lawler did most of the talking on RAW (especially during the Batista stuff) was because Vince McMahon quite frankly doesn't really like Michael Cole right now. Cole announces the way he does to try and please Vince, so he doesn't get fired or lose his spot. Vince consistently screams in Cole's ear. Vince had Lawler to call the Batista stuff because he doesn't trust Cole to get the big angles over.

Maybe Cole wouldn't be absolutely atrocious if Vince wasn't constantly in his ear. He'd just merely be horrible. This is just more evidence that Vince is completely cut off from reality. He's already chased off 2 announcers from SD. If Cole were to leave you know it's an awful situation since he has no problem kissing ass and being a puppet.
Did Shane Douglas really need to add the t-shirt tan on top of how bad he already looks?
i wonder if target had to approve all the time he asked off for?
That garbage can spot was cool.
I like how Steiner's arm was inside the can, and when he fell over you can see he tossed something under the ring with the same hand. Blade anyone? :)

I can't believe how Douglas looks. He had a pretty good look in the mid 90s. I like those arms of his. Tan forearms with white as snow biceps. :D

Yo so I just listened to Cactus Jack's anti-hardcore promos and this shit is brilliant. I can't believe it. It's so cutting edge and intelligent, nothing in wrestling ( that I've seen ) was ever able to be anything like this guy. I can't believe that this is the same dude who pulled a sock out of his pants, put it on his hand and stuck it in people's mouths.

Also, I was wondering how exactly a wrestler would "call it in the ring" if they have tinnitus of sinus issues that impairs hearing? How would they deal with that? How loud to people usually "call"? Is it like a whisper or what?

Cole was reporting from Yugoslavia during the war. As far as I am concerned he is more of a man than Vince could ever hope to be and Vince yelling probably doesn't mean shit to Cole.

Either way, Vince need to chill the fuck out. The announcers aren't as bad or good as anyone thinks they are.
-- The June 22nd edition of WWE RAW will be a historic broadcast for World Wrestling Entertainment. For the first time ever in the show's 16 year history, RAW will air without any commercial breaks. No word on whether the show will feature alternative product placement to make up for the lost advertising revenue, but it should be interesting to see how this change affects viewership. The commercial-free show will take place from Green Bay, WI and will be the final RAW before The Bash on the 28th.
Interesting. Hopefully they use this chance to put on a few longish matches but I'm not holding my breath!
And "alternative product placement" isn't so bad if it gives us more stuff like Santino stealing a delicious Subway sandwich from Lawler.
