The Darkness - Gen Discussion & Info
I do not support this.

EDF is digital crack, grab it for 30 and it will hold you over until The Darkness comes out.
Ok I don't support my idea either, but I would buy EDF if I didn't have a huge ass backlog. I got FF XII, Super Paper Mario, about 4 Wii VC games, Puzzle Quest all that ontop of a World of Warcraft addiction. So yeah EDF would not help my problem right now I don't need more digital crack, lol.

What does it say about the state of gaming that the remake to frickin' Riddick is getting more attention than this awesome looking game? That kinda flies in the face of people demanding creativity and originality, doesn't it?

Not surprised at all that The Darkness is emerging as a favorite. You could tell for a long time that it was going to be good. Only a couple more weeks.

Wow thats a huge focus on multiplayer for the achievments. I figured it might have a few since so much was focused on the single player game. Never thought it would be like that.
???

I thought this game was single player only?
Nah, I saw an ad for the game in The Avengers Initiative that mentioned multiplayer.

yeah, OXM had some mp info recently. You can transform between human and darkling characters. You either have straight FPS control with limited movement but big guns and some damage resistance, or as a Darkling you can climb walls and move in vents and stuff VERY fast,, but you have melee only attacks and you die from a single shot. Somewhat of a Splinter Cell mercs vs spies concept. If it's well balanced, it could be interesting, but I don't really see mp having very long legs for this game. I'm disappointed they put so much acheivement emphasis there, cause I can't imagine that people are buying it for mp. Then again, maybe that part of the game is fantastic and this is their way of getting people in so that they find out.

They talked about this in the new 1upyours podcast. A couple of the guys said they've been watching the reviewer play through, and it looks fucking amazing. They seemed genuinely excited for the chance to play it themselves.

Coming out on the 25th and looks amazing. Hopefully the story is relatively long compared to games like prey. If any one has any info on the multiplayer, post it.

I am kinda suprised at the lack of tv commercials. IIRC the chronicles of riddick got a tv blitz. I know it is still a week away, but I would like to see something
Maybe the lack of commercials and demo is because they know that their game kicks copious amounts of ass.
this game wont suck, it just wont. it may not be THE SHIT but it wont suck so bad they wouldnt put out a demo. that makes me think its so good it doesnt need a demo, though its not as high profile as gears which didnt need one.
i feel pretty confident this will be a worthy $60 purchase. hope im right.

Gears didn't have a demo and Viva Pinata didn't have a demo until recently. Both of which are two of the best games on the system. So I don't put much stock in the "no demo = suckage" argument.

imo no demo on a game like this equals goodness.

These were my exact same thoughts prior to purchasing shadowrun. Unfortunatly, I was wrong and shadowrun wasn't all that and a bag of crutons. I should have waited for the demo.

Bad news guys, I have a feeling that this great game will get overshadowed by Transformers game due the same day. So when you go to your local game shop, try not to forget about this game, since I'm sure you'll be tempted to pick up Transformers instead ;)

I'm buying 3 games that day, one of which is The Darkness, and not one is Transformers

no reviews that I know of, the game is still at least 5 days away...they have been rather tight lipped with info about this game.

It was promoted heavily during this week's RAW and ECW. I don't think they're too concerned with their competition this week (Not sure about the PS3 front since I don't follow their release list). Is anyone truly going to buy Hour of Victory and/or Transformers over this? I sure hope not.

not holding out much hope. I had a friend that played it at some convention a while back and he said he loved it and it'd be a day one purchase.. but this lack of talk about it is really worrying.

I'm buying this for sure.

I don't know much about Transformers, but it would have to be really really good for me to pass on this to get it. The Darkness looks to be above average at the very least....Transformers...well, its a game based off a movie. Not many of those turn out well.

What lack of talk? I'm very psyched. The guys at 1up have been talking about this game a lot too, and the hands on time at every site has been very positive. This is one of the 4 games this year that I'm buying day 1. Halo 3, Bioshock, and HL2:Orange Box (only cause I got it po'd for $9.99 at Amazon) are the others. I have high expectations for the narrative, immersiveness of this game. There really hasn't been anything quite like Riddick since that game hit. This looks to be the closest.

No Assassin's Creed on day 1? Sad. :(

Don't mention Assassin's Creed in here! Now I'm all wet!
I must admit, though, not to psyched about this being a FPS. Jesus do we have too many FPSs already.
I read in the Game Informer that this isn't a typical FPS. They said sure it's in First Person view but there is sooo much more to it.

That definitely is a redeeming factor. I don't know much about it, but I know I can't wait to play.

That's also why I mentioned Riddick (Starbreeze's previous game). For those who played it, it's very much not another FPS. They bring a hell of a lot more to the table. And even if you do consider it an FPS - I can still get plenty excited about that genre when someone does one extremely well with a strong narrative and above par gameplay.

As far as the off topic Day 1 Assassin's Creed discussion, I'm really not so into stealth games, and as great as that game looks, I'll probably wait for a price drop. I'm a 30 year old gamer with 3 kids, so I have very limited time to play and I'm not that patient. I want to sit down and have a fast moving fun experience. Not trial and error gameplay. The games I listed will probably be the only ones I even have time to fit in this year. Largely because I probably won't spend much time in anything other than Halo 3 after it's launch.

No demo 'til July it seems:

As for The Darkness, there were a few problems with the game that could have jeopardised the game’s release date next week. They pulled people from the demo over to the main game to ensure it would be in-stores in time. However the demo is being submitted this week for approval, which is hoped to take two weeks, meaning that a demo should be with us in July. Some good news for those not waiting for the demo:

"Now, for all the doubters and non-believers in our midst, your purported reasons for why the demo is delayed are laughable at best. Woe be to you who’ve written that we are “afraid” to post a demo on Xbox Live because of the competition from all the other demos on there. Or those who thought we are intentionally delaying the demo because you think the game is overhyped and that the demo will show how allegedly bad it really is. When the reviews hit next week you will be lucky if I let you polish my shoes with your tongues. We get the review scores early so I know what they are already. You’ll have to wait until then before everyone has self-posted evidence of how big a fools you all are."

Seems the review scores are going to be good. The game should be shipping next week for those picking it up.

Next week does have quite a few releases and i hope all of them turn out good.

The Darkness is the only one i have ordered already(with overlord to be next) but i hope Transformers and The Bigs turn out good as well. If only reviews would come out sooner for games!

Also, no demo until july isnt that big a deal when the game comes out the last week in June imo.

saw a TV spot for this last night during south park - what song is that? looks and sounds pretty sweet... I never pick up any games day 1, so I'll wait for the demo.

Halo3 is the only day1 exception.

Overlord is this week as well if I'm not mistaken.
