The definitive sony card rewards thread - a good start to a free game or controller

I apologize if this has been asked and answered already but do the advantages of the Sony Card also apply to the Playstation card? It's not really clear what the difference is between the two.

Try registering to Sony Rewards with the card and see if it goes through.

(You arent too far from me, about 1 hr. Visit the new Sonic they put in last week? We went a couple days after they opened and we cant wait to go back.)
 
I don't have either yet, I am trying to decide which one to register. It doesn't really help me to decide if I have to try it to find out :p.

No, I didn't realize there was a sonic nor have I ever been to one. I don't really get around town much, I'm pretty much always over by Western since that's where I live and attend classes.
 
this is a good thread...I'll prolly do enough to get a $25 gift card and call it quits,only because I have enough cc debt and have gone towards only using my debit card instead...but if I didn't I would definitely get the Sony CC as well....Good,informative post OP!!!
 
Quick question. When I go to the sony rewards site, it looks blank. I didn't know if its just my computer. I will try another one.
 
Just want to add my own thanks to the OP for putting all this information together in once place. I already had a Sony card, but I had no idea there's all these different ways to get extra points. Great stuff.

And speaking of my Sony card- did anyone else do the thing in November/December 2008, where if you spend so much on the card they give you 1500 additional free points? I know I spent enough on the card, but I still didn't get my 1500 extra points yet, and so I was wondering if anyone else already got theirs already or if it's taking a while for everyone (by the way, I noticed normally when the chase cards do these extra points promos e.g. get double points when you fill up your car or whatever, they ask you to register/sign up for the deal online, but this promo never asked me to do that...)
 
What's the difference between the Sony Card and the Playstation Card? Also, how is this credit card anyways? How does it compare to, say, bank issued credit cards? Looking to apply for my 2nd credit card :)

EDIT: Apologize for asking the same question, but I just don't get the difference between the 2 cards. Are they basically the same card with different artwork?

each card is subject to their own offers.. as of now id wait until there is another ps3 deal or something

What if I already have a PS3 and just want the card for points and an extra credit card?
 
Yeah I would wait for a ps3 deal to get this credit card. Or you can just get the card anyway and get points. If you already have a ps3, then the sonyrewards site is definitely good for getting games and accessories (using points on other retailers I mean).
 
I was curious if while my application for the card is being reviewed and I am waiting on approval is it possible to start earning points and then after I receive the card tie that to the rewards? I don't want to earn a few thousand points and then be sol when I can't tie them to the card after I receive it.
 
If you plan on getting the card, feel free to sign up under the sony rewards site without one and start earning right now, your points will not expire until a year has passed, if you get the credit card within that year, you can add the card to your sony rewards account and your points will be added, and will not expire.

Start stocking up on points now so when you do get the card, you can get something right away.

To anyone who is missing points, call the number on the rewards site, they have people who get paid to work on that kinda stuff, they can manually enter the points. If no one calls they probably just sit around playing call of duty all day.

Thanks for posting this, signed up and got all the points, going to get a card in a few months but might as well be getting the points now :)

Also have people actually won anything from the daily giveaway?
 
I may just be stupid, I'm not sure, but I can't seem to find the registration for blurays. The explanation given on the site implies you register them through the BDLive menu on the disc but there doesn't seem to be that option in the BDLive menu. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
 
So I did the Wheel of Fortune and Daily trivia on Friday (1/9), and now today (1/12), it says I've already completed it and the last quiz aired on 1/9. I know there's a new quiz, since the answers are already up.

is there something wrong with my browser? Seems like it's just not updating the page, my 500 points I bet still haven't been turned back in to me. Using Safari 3.1 on a Mac, but never had a problem like this in over 2 years.
 
You just have to wait until the website updates. The points don't immediately go back to your account. There are times when I have 1000 points on hold because a new daily giveaway shows up without having the previous day's 500 points returned.
 
Just a little addition the OP should put in...

"In order to get 3x the points from Sony Authorized Dealers you have to send in a completed form with a copy of a reciept...

This form can be found by
1) clicking on "My Account"
2) Clicking on "View Purchase Credit Form"
3) Complete it and send it in


I think this is complete garbage... is there anyway to go around this? (I just called and a Sony Rep said that this is the ONLY WAY to get the triple points).
 
For those not familiar with the frequency of quizzes and anything else related to quizzes, read below:

1. SPT happens every weekday at midnight est. That means you can earn a total of 50 pts per week from this category. Check out Martal's post to figure out the answer. He/she is almost always the first to post the correct answer (at around 1 am est).

2. WoF also happens every weekday but at around 6-7 pm est. This should earn you a total of 50 pts per week.

3. The 25th Anniversary Question happens somewhere between 0-3 times a week and each is worth 10 pts. I've never seen it happen 4-5 times a week and I've been playing these games for over 1/2 a year now.

4. Check out Sunshine's posts for all of the answers to the aforementioned quizzes. She's the MAN...I mean lady.

The 3 points redemption for sony purchases is kind of a pain in the butt, you HAVE to fill out the form and send it in, I usually don't do this unless it's worth my time and the price of a stamp. My guess is that it has something to do with privacy issues, meaning the sony rewards website does not review your purchases, it only checks on the ones you ask it too, just my guess though. I'll add a mention of this in my original post.

As far as points not being applied or missing or not updated, this can happen from time to time, but they almost always come eventually, only one time did I ever have to email them, it was when about 800 points went missing and I waited for two weeks, I sent them a nice email and a couple days later 1,000 points was posted to my account.

The sony website is not perfect and sometimes points can go missing, be patient, they usually show back up, if they don't, call or email, don't panic unless it's been a few days. While they are not perfect, they are not terrible or thieves and ripoffs, and they are always trying to fix there problems. I've been with this site long enough to know that they make honest mistakes, not ones on purpose.


The biggest problem I run into is the daily question, it's very random, but sometimes when I put in the correct answer, it'll mark it wrong, it sucks but not the end of the world.

I'm having the same problem. The only bluray I could register was casino royale but I can't register any others.

the blu ray has to be BD-Live capable. Which not all of them are.
 
Heh, looks like we all had the same idea. I signed up for Netflix free trial just a couple days ago to watch some tv shows I can never find to buy and now I'm just adding a bunch of BD Live capable blurays to earn the points. Thanks for the list as well, I couldn't find one.
 
I just registered and approved my self for a "Playstation" credit card and got the temporary account info. Do I have to wait for the actual card to come in to sign up with Sony Rewards? It didn't seem to take my information from the temporary page.

You can go ahead and create a Rewards account without entering the credit card. It took about 4 days before I could link my credit card number to my Rewards account. I think it takes a little while for it to get into the system.
 
can you register any sony product amd get free points? How far back can you go? I have several sony tv that were made in 2001/2002 and 2 psps, a sony clock radio.

Yeah I got most of the titles from that forum, but since not all of them qualify for the 100 points I decided to make an updated list with only Sony Pictures blu-rays.

Yeah I wish I didn't look for the model # on my ps3. I accidently bumped the power button and then the plug in the back and the hard drive became corrupted and I had to reformat. If I was thinking I would have unplugged it first, but oh well, I screwed up.
