The "Dem Boys" Briscoe Brothers Wrestling Thread

Hey, a quick thanks to you guys (Scorch, Hydro) for reminding me about the Best Buy policy. Totally had forgotten it was 30 days. That was quick, too... spent all of five minutes in Best Buy.

I wasn't unhappy paying $60 for WWE '12, but fuck if I'm going to turn down a $31 reimbursement.

Thanks again!

No problem. I'm glad someone else took advantage of that. I was pretty bummed about paying $47 for it (PM'ed at Target on launch day) after all of the server bugs, but $30 is about right. Very happy to get some money back.

I save all of my BB receipts now. The only thing is if you order it for in-store pickup from the site, they have to return the item (you don't need to have the item present, they just refund it in the system) and you re-buy it at the sale price. If it's bought in the store, they just adjust the price and give you the difference. That doesn't make sense to me since in-store pickups come from the physical store's inventory, but whatever.
Again, The Rock's return to the ring after EIGHT YEARS resulted in only 45,000 more buys than the event that sold poorly enough to get an over-20-year-old PPV canceled
Probably didn't help that it was in a tag match against two midcarders.
Probably didn't help that it was in a tag match against two midcarders.
Not to mention those two midcarders we're position to look like chumps going into the match.

I just don't understand why you'd book the Rock's in-ring return a year in advance, and then half-way through put him in such an inconsequential match at Survivor Series. It's like opening your presents three days before Christmas.
depends, does she have red hair?
This is an absolutely legitimate argument.

That Briscoe Bros promo was a million shades of amazing in terms of selling the importance of their PPV tomorrow night. There's a huge downside because it's unclear who the faces are and who the heels are - but still; go watch the video DemolitionMan posted and I dare you - I double dog dare you - to find a better promo from the past decade.

I saw that bullshit excuse for WWE not signing them coming form a mile away. Lord forbid they actually have some diversity amongst your roster.

WWE proves once again why image is everything and actual substance is circumstantial.

Go look at the FCW roster page. It's like a gallery of CAWs where the kid playing the game just decided to change the hair and skin color and called them different wrestlers.

Looks like the wrestlers came out of a fucking factory/laboratory, they're so common in terms of build and stature.

Bores the shit out of me.

Also: The Bushwhackers. Harley Race. Mike Shaw in any incarnation.

Speaking of 'diversity,' even the nonwhite wrestlers they have are motherfucking wonder bread and salt sammiches: Abraham Washington, Byron Saxton, Percy Watson (mostly), Jinder Mahal, etc.

Watched the Road Warriors documentary on Netflix. They seemed to touch on a couple of things and then just sort of forgot what they were talking about midway and changed subjects. Otherwise a good watch if you've ever been a fan.

Tons of other WWE stuff popped up recently, including:

- History of the AWA
- History of the WWE Championship
- Tombstone (Undertaker)
- Shawn Michaels: Heartbreak and Triumph
- Edge
- Batista

I've watched the HBK release before, not a bad deal, but the most recent set is probably my favorite of his. Personally I'm intrigued to watch the Edge set, and the AWA.

They advanced past the first round match, winning over the Krash Krew, but in the course of this match, Mark was injured when Jay inadvertently struck him in the mouth with the backswing of a chairshot. Mark was taken to the hospital after the match and subsequently lost a number of teeth and sustained damage to his gums as well.[72]

Amazing. I looked into the Detroit reference as well, and the injury he referred to was an SSP to the floor where Mark (I think Mark) landed on his head and had a number of seizures in the ICU.

I forgot to mention that the Ultimate Hulk Hogan Anthology is on Netflix as well, I know you're all dying to watch that.

I can't tell if I can blame the watermark in part for making him look old in that pic.

F4WOnline.com reports that WWE officials are considering taking the WWE Championship off CM Punk due to 'terrible ratings patterns' for his weekly segments on Raw.

The matter was broached prior to Sunday's WWE TLC pay-per-view event, which saw Punk ultimately retain the strap in a Triple Threat Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match against Alberto Del Rio and The Miz. The trend of lackluster ratings for his segments continued the following night on Raw as the program's overrun, which saw the Straight Edge Superstar, Daniel Bryan and Zack Ryder overcame The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler, only gain 59,000 viewers.

Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer analyzes: "That's almost impossible given people tune in to see the following show, which basically meant wrestling fans must have been tuning out in droves (they were during the first half of the match but then started gaining at 11 p.m., but hardly gained anything)."

The main event garnered a 2.67 cable rating (2.55 for the first half of the bout), which Meltzer says is by far, the lowest-rated main event on Raw in 2011 and possibly the lowest since 1997 for a non-holiday show in its regular time slot.

#DemBoys are the ROH World Tag Team Champs!

ROH World Title match up right now. Come on Davey!

Davey Richards defeats Eddie Edwards to retain the ROH World Title. Afterwards Kevin Steen who won his match against Steve Corino earlier in the night to be reinstated into ROH came out from backstage and proclaimed that he's coming after Davey Richards and the ROH World Title and that once he wins the title he's going to hold ROH hostage.

I hope we can still get Ziggler/Punk before the belt goes back to Cena. He's the last viable heel on Raw.

Miz looked strong through the summer before getting completely buried by Cena and Rock through November.

Del Rio has had every little detail of his gimmick turned into a joke by Punk for the past few months - not to mention that most of Punk's time has been spent dealing with Lauranitis.

The outcome of that TLC match was never in doubt.

Steen/Corino was *amazing*. Go out of your way to see it if you can.

The tag gauntlet match went far too long.

I had to leave to meet up w/ other people before the Briscoes and WGTT match and title match. Good PPV from what I saw, well worth $15. But their live production is fucking appalling - keeping the audio of the announcers when showing slowed-down replays after matches is a near unforgivable mistake.

One good thing about iPPVs - there's no definite end time, so you lose that "it's 10:55, the finish is coming any second now" feeling that removes some of the enjoyment of big matches. I'm not convinced iPPVs are the best thing going now, but I do see them as the future (compared with time-allotted cable PPV events). We'll talk in 3-5 years.

With the two UFC PPVs I streamed in HD during the Xbox 360 Beta, the quality was superb and you wouldn't have known it was a stream. It's a good option to have for people like me who won't buy cable or satellite and use Hulu, Netflix, and other sources for TV, not that I watch much anyway. I'm hoping to get UFC 141 when more spots open up.

That's because that UFC stream was being broadcast directly to that app. It wasn't like you were on a justin.tv stream or some shit, that stream was the same one that people pay 50 bucks or more per fight for. IIRC, those fights were both $49.99.

Just want to say thanks to those using spoiler tags for the ROH results (or just being vague). I hope to be able to watch the show in the next day or two.

Agree. I really enjoyed it.

The tag gauntlet match went far too long.

I wasn't so bothered by that as much as....

... the ending coming so suddenly and so anti-climatically. It was like "oh lets end now" without it really having any real build up.

I had to leave to meet up w/ other people before the Briscoes and WGTT match and title match.

Thoughts on the two matches...

Briscoes vs WGTT... was bizarro land. Briscoes getting face pops, WGTT getting heel heat from the crowd. Haas got legit pissed off with the NYC crowd and started flipping them off. Good match and quite fun.

Richards vs Edwards III in all honesty I felt was good but the weakest of the three. Some of it to me comes from it only being six months after the phenominal second match in the series which I'll say in my opinion is my personal MOTY. Don't get me wrong I still enjoyed it and certainly was a good title match but to me it was a step down. Maybe when I revisit the show down the road I'll enjoy it more but for now.

Also I do like ROH ending the show with them already laying forth what we might expect at some point in 2012 with Richards vs Steen. That should be a fun great match when it does happen.

Good PPV from what I saw, well worth $15. But their live production is fucking appalling - keeping the audio of the announcers when showing slowed-down replays after matches is a near unforgivable mistake.

Production wise this has been ROH's worst iPPV since their first one (Final Battle 2009). They had screw ups during the entire show ranging from problems syncing the replays into the broadcast, graphics not showing up (or incorrectly), the video suddenly going to black momentarily, audio cutting off, etc etc etc. Some of these problems does come from ROH using new equipment from what Jim Cornette mentioned during his interview on Live Audio Wrestling. On the other hand shouldn't they be practicing and rehearsing stuff to make sure it works prior to the show. It seems almost like as if their production team goes to using this stuff right away without making sure they know how to use it or even if it works correctly.

For smaller independent companies iPPV can be good for them since its much cheaper to stream their show through GoFightLive and the like. I can't see the likes of the WWE and whatever TNA calls themselves next week going to iPPV exclusively in the future. Yeah the WWE kind of attempts to have their PPVs available for streaming online but when the cost of watching said stream is the same cost as your cable provider then why bother?

Steen and Richards wrestled a few months back in PWG, and it was a WAR. Very stiff match, ending with Steen hitting a package pile driver on the apron before choking out Richards with a rear naked chokeplex.

Thanks. I'm hung over enough that I initially read "may Demolition Man live forever" and was going to accuse you of trolling me.

The second read made more sense.

If memory serves, didn't WCW or WWE (WWF) have an idea for a character that was frozen years ago and recently thawed out?

That was some WWF shit right there. Rumor has it that it was supposed to have been a Nazi Officer frozen during the 3rd Reich and then thawed out. That idea ended up becoming Heidenreich if I am not mistaken though.

Speaking of gimmicks, am I the only person who thinks that an evil (heel) Doink persona would work well in the current product if portrayed by the right person?

And NO I'm not talking about the dollar-store version of the Joker that Sting is trying to pull off. I'm talking a scary, freaky, creepy clown. Someone who could really play mind games.

Heidenreich was infinitely better for no other reason than this.

I wish that Daniel Bryan would say something to Cole along the lines of "Hey,do you despise me because I'm not Heidenriech?" one of these days during those god aweful "Danial Bryan is a liar, hypocrite, blah blah blah" segments.

Pulled these out while going through some storage bins - my dad got them in 1992 while working on the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ. IIRC he tried to get Kamala and Undertaker's as well but Whippleman and Bearer refused to let them.

Shane is long gone. He's working for a broadband provider to get into the Chinese market (plus sports management). I doubt we'll ever see him working for WWE again (and good for him).

They could have done a better job piping in the Cena Sucks chants. just like last week they could have tried to at least hide the obvious cut to the t-shirt collar which let you know it was going to get ripped off of him.

According to the internet, WWE has filed to trademark the phrase "WrestleFest." Hopefully because they're planning to bring WrestleFest to XBLA. Make it happen, people.
