The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - 11/11/11

Damn had my first few bugs today, lost one Companion who just disappeared, wasnt fighting anyone, (one from Riverwood) then I got a bad ass one from Azura's Shrine and I am in a dungeon and POOF she disappears next... I am afraid to take any of them with me now since I just got Lydia. I don't want them vanishing. They both died when I was fighting no one too. I just turned around and they were gone

I also got bit by the game doesnt auto save bug, I finally went to Solodil and walked up to the execution and they attacked me and I ran out the door and far away but I an KOS no matter what when I fast travel back. Taking a break since I have to do about an hour over again now... bleh
this early in the game, i dont believe anyone has encountered a vampire and lived...most likely you're sickly from diseases from fighting undead or skeevers. Check your active buffs, it will most likely say rockjoint or something.
I fought around 12 vampires at around level 3 or 4.

The leader killed me a few times, but I eventually got him stuck on a rock and bowed him to death.

Good times...

my god I can't wait for this freaking game. Should be in the mail tomorrow. My job is taking us on a staff retreat, so no lunch. Gonna be the longest day ever, this thread has me so excited

Has anyone ever played Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy? I could swear that the voice actor for Ross in that game plays a bajillion NPCs in this. The bards who sing about Whoever The Red, a couple of NPCs in Whiterun...his voice sounds so familiar.

The level cap is 75, I believe, Matto.

I completely forgot to take Lydia along with me as my companion so far, would have made things a lot easier. I've been using my trusty Flame Atronach for when I need a helping hand. Playing as a Mage is awesome but can get a bit difficult at times, my guy just seems weak.

Skyrim's a nice kickstart back into playing singleplayer games for me, I'm really enjoying it. So much to do, so much fun. I've encountered a couple annoying things so far, at one point I was randomly being mugged by a thief, and wanted to go through the dialogue options to see what she had to say, but while in conversation mode a wolf started attacking me and I had to exit the conversation to stop it which prompted the assassin to attack me. When I reloaded the save, the thief wasn't there anymore. Bleh. Having different NPCs all of a sudden say the same lines as another completely irrelevant NPC kind of irks me a little bit as well, but it's nothing big. I understand how much dialogue in the game there is, it's only natural that stuff repeats.

early in the game meaning, just getting out of the intro chapter. since there really isnt "you're only lvl 3 you're not supposed to be here yet" you could walk to the ends of skyrim avoiding combat and straight into a coven of vampires. It's just a common occurance that ppl have been running into early in the campaign.

As for getting a vampire leader stuck on a rock...a shame it was poor AI pathing vs the ability to stick them to the ground with a bow and arrow.

Brak, was the vampire spot you went to the same spot I went to? The coven there with the Master Vampire? I just randomly found myself at that place at one point.

I got a couple of lame kills early on in the game from some unfortunate AI. When I came across 2 giants, I figured I'd test my luck and I went for it and then I found out I was extremely outmatched. Those dudes are ridiculous. I ran to a watchtower, the giants smacked the whiterun guards aside with ease, but they couldn't get inside the watchtower door so they just endlessly ran into it trying to get to me. I just shot em with an arrow until they died, and then felt lame afterwards.

I only found out a little while ago, after hitting level 12, that there were those Guardian Stone things right at the beginning that I missed. Only found that out from a buddy and had to run all the way back to get the bonus. I feel like I missed out on a lot of potential XP from that...

Got my smithing skill up to 60, but I've hit a problem.

The first blacksmith you encounter in that small town (raven something) is not giving me the option to buy items. Making the rest of my orkish armor is going to be really hard without this...

riverwood? from my understanding
not every npc or blacksmith actually sells items, you'll have to seek elsewhere

XP, Skill, what have you. You know what I meant!

I'm hoping if I head to the Mage college in Winterhold I can beef up my guy a bit, I'm getting my ass kicked.

Stupid question time: Some armorsmith lady in Whiterun started a little mission chain for me where I have to make a bunch of different items, and one of the items she wanted me to make was a Leather Hide Hat or whatnot. This was right after I made leather and leather strips on the tanning rack. She said she gave me the rest of the materials to make it but...where do I make the hat? I tried going on the tanning rack again, had no option to make a hat, I went to all the other stations where you can craft things but none of them gave me the option either. Is it a glitch? Am I doing something wrong here?

Yeah riverwood! He sells items he just randomly stopped.

are you sure? i dont think i was every able to actually purchase stuff from him, only
take stuff from him as part of his hospitality
You do realize there's probably a blacksmith and/or forges in every major city. Why not...talk a stroll. ;)

Check the time. He might be on his break

The final boss battle for the Gauldur Amulet quest was a royal pain in the ass. Tedious? Yes. Difficult? Not so much depending on your build and how familiar you are with RPGs in general. I didn't even have to prep for it. My archer was putting in work (he's a one shot kill terror for undead now with an extra 26% dmg boost via enchantments) covering Lydia while she did most of the heavy lifting. I think by now it's pretty obvious I'm a loyal fanboy. Gauldur's Blackblade is the perfect compliment to the Ysg shield so now I only have to babysit for recharging purposes. Slide a few potions her way for emergencies, set, forget. She rarely falls into a down but not out state now. Sadly I lack the skill to enchant magic resistance on chest plates, helmets and gauntlets otherwise she'd be a walking fortress. Until then I'm on the hunt for more health syphoning weaponry for constitution buffing purposes.

The second brother is one HELL of a little teleporting Unrelenting Force spamming son of a bitch though for real. He must have disarmed me of my bow at least five times in a row prompting me to panic search and reequip. I'm honestly surprised the floor didn't swallow it up. The third took the bitch in him to another level what with his constant Frost Atronach summoning, but Sang's Rose got the last laugh. At one point Lydia and my Daedra had them both pinned down in corner for good ol' fashioned stab-a-thon. Still rather ticked I couldn't soul trap them all for the second time. I'm definitely pursuing Azura's Star after this because hauling all these soul gems around for us is dicking up loot opportunities.

Oh, and do NOT take advantage of the opportunity to use the experimental Flame Cloak scrolls from one of the students at the mage college in Winterhold. They work great... until you realize you're taking more damage than the surrounding undead. It took two reloads before I finally took notice. ;\

Overall I'm convinced from a game play stand point Skyrim is a HUGE improvement over Oblivion. You know you're hooked when you feel guilty for even thinking of playing something else. A couple of minor gripes here or there but I am not regretting this purchase like I thought I would. It's definitely a must buy title IMO.

Panda - Use the forge. If the option is greyed out then you're either lacking necessary materials or skill to make it.

Sucks that it takes 1 in-game month for all the ores in a mine to regenerate.

It's gonna take awhile to make a full set of upgraded Daedric armor when only 2 mines have ebony ores.

So is anyone having LOTS of trouble killing trolls? How do you guys do it? I'm a level 17, and I have TONS of trouble doing it STILL, and it's preventing me from doing some quests...

Also, does anyone else feel like they can't leve an area until they have entirely explored it? It's starting to get me mad, because I always have to stop in the middle of a quest because I haven't explored the whole area I'm in yet. I have so many quests to finish, it's not even funny. I am 19 hours in, haven't started ANY guilds, have done one main quest mission, and only about 5 side quests. The rest has just been exploring.

The quest line for the Mage Guild has been pretty epic. Tons of great loot in awesome dungeons and I just finished the best one yet. My next character is probably going to look like a medieval Sith Lord with the collection I've got now. All that's left is to find a Blade sword and some ridiculous non-hooded robes. This is shaping up to be my game of the year.

Not with trolls, no. Just use fire - they really, really hate it.

My biggest issue has been with high-level undeads rising out of their tombs and taking control of my atronachs. So instead of me fighting the undead 2-on-1, I'm suddenly on the 1 end.

The one thing I hate about WRPG's is that you can never upgrade every skill. I love being ridiculously overpowered, especially with something like this that has some kind of weird level scaling mechanic that I can't figure out, but does impede my progress every once in a while.

Perhaps this will answer your question, related to trolls.

Has anyone found a good way to quickly gather souls for enchanting? I'd like to enchant and sell some daggers, but the process seems time consuming.

Still doesn't seem to be working for me, and I'm a level 50 destruction.

Just get a normal soul trap spell and cast it on everything you fight before you kill it. If you have a good enough soul gem for it, it will fill the soul gem, and you should have PLENTY of soul gems to fill once you're fairly deep into the game.

Finished up the Champions quests, and now I can ask them to help me in battle. I finally have someone to hold my 150 pounds of dragon scales and bones

I want a house but I only have like 2,500 gold :(

I did this this just to enchant daggers and flip for coins;

1.Buy cheapest 1H weapon with a 3-5 sec long Soul Trap duration.
2.Equip ST weapon to left hand, favorite/strong to right hand.
3.Hit wild animals with left, kill them right.

Managed to change a 10g dagger into 600g by adding Turn Undead and petty gems.

I just realized you could put Weapons and Shields on your Favorites Tab

Mind Blown

During gameplay, open the favorites list (UP on D-pad), and hold Left/Right on the D-pad to assign a quick use item (Left=1,Right=2).
You can add any favorites to there but the potions seem like the best way to go.

Or as you're viewing any item in your inventory hit "y" to assign it to your favorites menu.

is there a specific strategy to kill elder dragons? i deal with normal dragons no problem (am at 41 now, was able to recover my game with an earlier save i didnt know i had), but elder dragons just one shot me some how.... even in full dragon scale armor and everything :\

wow...vampires insane.

I thought I was playing WoW for a moment, some vampire wandering around decided to raid a town and proceeded to kill chickens and raise them as their thralls. Then, murdered the entire town and walked off as the sun started to rise.

(reload game)

Killed the vampire, but it had pathing problems so I won. The dozen times previous I was lightning bolted to death right before she ran up to me and did some crazy blood drain spell. oi...this game rocks.

I keep being told by NPCs that I look sick, so I took a cure all potion, but they're still telling me that I look ill. Anyone have any ideas of how to stop that?

Enchant a bow with Soul Trap and set it to trap the soul if the creature dies within 1 second. You'll have a ton of charges on the bow, 700-ish.

Assuming you have the right size soul gem, the killing blow will capture their soul. Makes for quick gathering of souls in crypts and such.

Same principle applies to a melee weapon, though I'm a long-range Destruction mage, so I prefer to keep my distance.

1 second would only work if you can manage to one shot with the bow... right? which would require a sneak - bow 3x damage, good bow, +archery bonuses and such.

Touch a Holy Statue/Idol. The one in Whiterun that's behind the Priest is your best bet. Or inside the Church of Riften. Or it could just be a matter of not enough sleep.

It's really possible to not sleep enough in this game? Dang...

Sometimes it won't tell you anything, sometimes it'll tell you that you've awoken rested, others it'll say you've awoken fully rested.

Yeah, I haven't slept at all since starting. I literally almost never sleep in Fallout games.
I just got a 55 inch tv last night. It's really hard not to pick this game up now.
What did you get?

I recently switched my 32" 720p HDTV with a family member for their 19" 1080p HDTV. Going to be a little difficult readjusting, but it's better for space in my room and it helps out the other person.

I have to get back into Skyrim, I've been caught up in all these other games. Bleh.

So how do you invest in stores, and how do you get married? I can't figure it out for the life of me, and google isn't helping either.
Sometimes it won't tell you anything, sometimes it'll tell you that you've awoken rested, others it'll say you've awoken fully rested.
I was under the impression that the "Rested" vs. "Fully Rested" things were based off the bed you slept in. As in, if you sleep in a bed that you OWN (like in your house), you get Fully Rested. Otherwise, just Rested.

I've heard all the hype about this game, is it worth getting for a newbie to the elder scrolls world? or should I get oblivion first?

I never played much of Oblivion myself but it doesnt matter. you really don't need any introduction. This game is one of the rare ones worth 59.99 right from the start just to be a part of everyone playing through it at the same time and all the different things that happen than your game
