The Era of Punk Wrestling Thread

The best part was the Double Dragon music at the end of the magician one.

How the hell am I going to make that guy in Firepro?

I'm a little late to the conversation... but WWE didn't let me down last night. As a lifelong fan, I knew that MitB and the momentum the company gained it was too good to be true. I swear... it was like I was watching an entirely different promotion on RAW. The ball was glued to their hands... how in Jebus name could they have dropped it?! A tournament to crown a new champ for a belt that has yet to exist? Four guys work multiple matches in one show the night after an epic PPV?! Cena not being fired even though the stipulation from the five-star PPV match stated he would be?! Eight Diva tag disaster?!

Oh... and the only thing I hate more than Triple H is Triple H in a suit.

Thanks once again WWE. You captured my attention with the best PPV in recent memory, then you turn around and kill every smile... every reinvested fan. My gawd... someone needs to step up and kill this company while it's convulsing on the floor in a pool of it's own blood.

Everyone on this forum bitches about the lack of wrestling on RAW, and they give you damn near two hours of wrestling and you still bitch. And if you are upset about the lack of Punk last night, it fits the storyline to not mention him. The guy left the company with the title so it makes sense to get a new champion right away and forget about the guy who left.

Keep in mind that everything Punk said in his promos was designed to make money, and him mentioning Triple H numerous times was no accident.

and that right there is why you let WWE make up a name to give to you. Mistico will still be huge in Mexico. Maybe even bigger with the WWE exposure.

- For those still wondering, the end of RAW last night with Triple H and Vince McMahon was part of the storylines with a little bit of real life thrown in there as Triple H has been groomed for a year now to take over Vince's duties. WWE's website is teasing that the company's latest evolution captained by Triple H begins next week on RAW with the crowning of a new WWE Champion.

So...Trips is retired now?

He's less retired than Steve Austin, but more retired than Ric Flair is my guess.

He'll be in the ring again a few times, as he can still go for sure - but he'll never be a part of any awful beat-everyone-down paradigm like he had in the early part of the past decade.

Maybe with Trips in charge, he can get Shawn to come be his yes man Diesel and Pac can be his security and we can get a full fledged DX takeover?

I just would like to see them go a month or two with trips being face or at least neutral before doing the making him go full heel powerdrunk boss. You know the Evil Mr. McHelmsley era is coming.

That's the worst idea since the last DX reunion.

With Trips looking like he's going to appear on tv more often as the authority figure, does that mean they might finally ditch the anonymous GM gimmick?
Lords Of Pain is reporting that the plan is to release Sin Cara once he returns from suspension.
Totally throwing a party if that's true.

EDIT: Wanted to throw and edit in and add my two cents from last night. Frankly, these last couple of weeks have been the biggest events in professional wrestling in quite a while. Am I excited to see where everything goes from here? Absolutely.

Maybe I feel that way because we've not seen things of this magnitude of excitement in quite a while. In any event, I think there's a lot if people who are looking too much into the short-term aspects of recent events and not into the long-term.

This whole CM Punk thing has yet to even really get the ball rolling. I said it last night and I'll say it again. RAW is returning to Chicago on December 26th. Whoever wins the tournament (if it still happens) will hold onto the belt for a while and things will go on as they do in the E.

Then oop, Punk returns on RAW and shakes things up. Then he begins a verbal war with the "new" champ which results in a unification bout sometime next year.

That's just my take in the whole thing.

I'm really interested in seeing what's gonna happen in the near and distant future in WWE. Next week I fully expect Trips to come out and cut a 15-minute promo to start the show, but given the circumstances, I'll let it slide.

So long as we keep getting good matches and engaging storylines like we have over the last month, I'll continue to be invested in the product.

You know, over the last few weeks we've all thrown around a lot of different possible outcomes of this angle. What I have got to give WWE credit for is having an outcome that made sense and no one saw coming.

The other clever thing about Punk, McMahon, HHH, etc. is the way they've managed to mirror real life in this whole angle. We've all been complaining, as well as Punk, that WWE is stuck in its old tired ways as long as Vince is in charge. What do you know now? He's not. I found it particularly amusing that Vince mentioned last night prior to firing Cena that sometimes you have to weigh the longterm goals against the short term. Something all of us have basically been harping on them for not doing for months.

Let it all sink in. The WWE, after being so worried for 15 years about another Alundra Blayze/Madusa incident actually let a title leave the building. Now, is Punk completely out from under ANY contract with the WWE? Of course not. There's simply no way he doesn't have some kind of contract in place. Is it a performance contract? Maybe, maybe not. At the very least I'd expect its a contract saying that if that title comes within 10 ft. of a waste receptacle Punk will be paying WWE back till the end of time. The simple fact that they're treading on this ground is certainly interesting though. Sure they're gonna replace the title and have a new champ but the fact that they actually let someone leave with a title without putting someone else over says a lot about their willingness to try something outside their comfort zone.

I also know some people are tired of the montreal screwjob but I do have to say I like the allusions to it in this storyline. It was subtle, but frankly, the subtlety was hamfistedly destroyed by Cena last night. Still though, it is an interesting "Other outcome" category direction that they've taken this angle.

I wasn't bitching about the wrestling. I'm bitching about the failed opportunity to take a new direction with the product. Sunday night, I thought we were seeing a restructured product... something a bit more risque. Something progressive.

Wrestling aside, we were seeing something fresh. Storytelling that's rarely been used since the Attitude Era. A chance to elevate new stars, create new characters, introduce new competitors, build a strong story.

The Vince angle (which may be RL) isn't necessarily bad, but I feel it is one that they could have stretched out over the next few months. Have Vince continually make poor decisions that adversely affects his business... then have H step in. Too little, too soon in my opinion.

Shittiest scenario ever.

Let the Miz bashing continue...

From Lords of Pain:

"Well said chavo!" Snitsky typed. "Wtf is seriously scared of the fukn Miz? Ru kiddin me!!!!"

A follower of Snitsky's said The Miz "is awesome," to which he replied, "RU fukn kiddin me? Heez a putz and i mean that."

Snitsky was backstage looking for work at last month's SmackDown taping in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He revealed recently on Twitter that he was not offered a contract to return.

I guess the sarcasm about a DX in charge of the WWE reunion type thing was lost on everyone. Maybe I should have included the skit they did years ago mocking Vince, and the corporation.....

Dude's jealous, plain and simple. If he's gonna go down the "not physically intimidating" road then there shouldn't be any cruiserweights in wrestling either.

Considering WWE seems to want to plant seeds very early for the next Wrestlemania, wouldn't doubt this to be true. We have Cena/Rock confirmed, had Taker/HHH 2(3?) teased, and then possibly throw this in the mix also? Sure, why not

Basically, Miz made it and is a star, meanwhile he colored his teeth... became a jobber.... got fired... then didn't get rehired when he tried to.

If Snitsky wasn't 6-foot-whatever, nobody outside of Bumfuck, ND would have ever heard of him.

WWE's big man bias gave him a break he never would have, nor should have, had otherwise.

And in classless fashion the ex-WWE "star" and future gas station attendant had this to say...

"Love the haters on twitter!!!! I beat the miz in 30 secs and he could nvr hold my jockstrap! Im a div 1 athelete, former NFL player! $$$s," he wrote.

"Do your research you fuckin no life pieces of shit! Lmao... Anyof you mommys boys ever accomplish nethin b sides sniffin ur moms panties.

"Get out of your mommys basement and stop jerkin off to gay porn u wanna beez!!!!! Rotflmao at these nerds!!!!

He also called a follower of his a "retard" in response to a remark that The Miz has a job. The former Heat Superstar then boasted that he's featured in WWE's upcoming video release, OMG! The Top 50 Incidents in WWE History, while The Miz isn't.

"Oh and dont 4get im on the top 50 omg moments in WWE!!! Haha jackasses! Dont c miz on there!!!!! You DMF's," he wrote. "My time is money.... You idiots arent worth either! Lol peace out to all my beloved fans!!!! Have a wonderful day."

Snitsky capped off his diatribe by saying that fans of The Miz are "Mizarks."
It is almost like he NEVER wants to work again.

EDIT: I would like to make note he is bragging about beating Miz in a staged match in under a minute.

You kidding? He made it onto a WWE DVD, cdubb! He's living the dream!

In other news:

It has come to our attention that TNA has contacted John Cena and Vince McMahon about working together regarding the CM Punk storyline. We don't have many details, but our sources indicate that McMahon himself will be at a Impact taping in the coming weeks.

Source: The Wrestling Observer

I love how the word "Heat" is italicized just to drive home how worthless Snitzky really was.

Regarding that news about TNA, I think it's safe to say that Vince (or whomever is running the ship now) is wise enough to stay away from the poison that is TNA as possible.

I noticed Punk is still on the Raw Superstar page on wwe.com. WWE is usually pretty quick to yank guys off the site.

Didn't he kick some chick in the uterus and cause a false miscarriage in a false pregnancy. Very OMG.

Dude is the drizzling shits in the ring. Plenty of big guys can wrestle from Undertaker to Kane to Bully Ray to Bam Bam Bigelow. Snitsky is literally worse in the ring than Kevin Nash.

Daniel Bryan is most likely going to win the SD title this year, Punk just stole the Raw title, and if things continue from last week, either Rey Mysterio or The Miz is about the win the new Raw title. The era of giants in the WWE seems to be on hiatus.

How is Cobra Commander dressed as Daft Punk wrestling related? I mean, Punk has the Cobra logo tattoo, but even that's a serious stretch.

Seriously, the only thing that could have saved that angle would have been if as they were loading her into the ambulance, the twin to Mae Young's hand baby fell out of between her legs. At least then we could of all had a good laugh looking back at that whole angle, rather than the constant series of facepalms we are doing now.

I'm kinda marking out over this Smackdown spoiler:
After an interview with Cole in the ring where Cole kinda just shits all over him, D. Brine (that's Daniel Bryan for those not used to Booker's lingo) announces that he's going to cash it in for a match at Wrestlemania.

You must be right because he's starring in a sequel to...wait for it...Manos: The Hands of Fate.

I fucking swear to God I'm not making this up.

I try not to throw this word around often, but you'd have to be borderline retarded to think this even remotely resembles a good idea.

fuck me sideways. For real?

*sigh*

Well, don't think of Snitsky doing it like him having a choice between WWE and some shitshow movie.

He's Gene Snitsky; this is a choice between a shitshow movie and working as a dishwasher at Benihana.

You'd do it, too.
Good lawd, Survivalism, I am dying of laughter. Holy shit.
If you liked Mr. Magician, check out this battle royale for the DDT Iron Man Heavy Metal Championship, a hardcore title with 24/7 rules. If the champion lasts 10 minutes, he retains the title. The champion is a ladder.

Or here's a great match, Zhao Yun Zilong vs. Misutero. Watch Misutero's German suplex. Also, he is invisible.

If I was involved with Manos 2 in any way, shape, or form, and that includes watching it, I couldn't live with myself.

Heresy! Snitsky once punted a baby into the crowd. HOF-bound!

It's not a "stretch" at all. The fact that you picked up on it right away is all the proof you need. It's clear what the intent was.

Looks like that darn wrestler Twitter-hacker has struck again, since Snitsky is saying those comments were all made by someone who hacked his account.
It wasn't his fault.

Had there not been a mention of CM Punk in preface to the picture being shown, I would have thought the same thing, only without thinking about CM Punk's Cobra logo tattoo. I still fail to see how that isn't a stretch. Now if Cobra Commander had X's on his hands or a Pepsi logo somewhere, that'd be a much easier connection to make.
