Oh come now, those are the kinds of fabulous continuity issues that make Impact so enjoyable. Really, the red herring SHOULD have been the Big Show instead of Hall - he would actually fit Sting's description on Impact, could come in easily, and they could get an easy test to how well fans in the Impact Zone would take to him. Of course, he, like Hall, wouldn't fit the ad's statement of the partner and Sting holding 40 world titles... which begs the question, did Sting tell THE AD GUY who his partner is? Or, did he just give the man stats and information about him?

Also, why did the FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT TO FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT reverse battle royal/battle royal/tournament need to take place if it's possible to get a title shot without having to have ever wrestled in TNA before (mystery partner), or without having had a TNA match in over a year (Nash).

Re: the No Mercy rumor - If that happens, I WILL buy a Wii. I'd be kind of surprised if it does, but I'd love to see it happen. A modern-day roster game with that engine would be fantastic, and sadly, still superior in a variety of ways to the SvR series despite it being seven years old.
Won't they have to update more than the rosters? They need to do finishers and spot moves as well, no?
If they were smart, they would just drop Yukes then drop a metric ton of money on AKI and make them take over the Smackdown series.
Well, bye bye Carlito, have fun working in Puerto Rico for the rest of your life.
Hmm. I honestly don't expect him to get his release before Christmas. They need to have new job boys to establish first (like KC James, or...isn't James Curtis the name he was using as a job boy on ECW?). They, strange as it may seem, need him on the roster. They can't parade Hacksaw Duggan around every week in his role, and while Super Crazy might fit the position Carlito was in, they seem content with making him the "Slowpoke Rodriguez" stereotype of WWE.

Carlito's hard to figure out. He is a capable wrestler, but he's kinda like Raven if he doesn't want to work, he's not going to. I'd rather have a full motivated Snitsky than a half-assed Carlito. Some people have earned the right to be a primadonna, IMO...but Carlito is not one of them. He has the capacity to be a good enough wrestler such that he might eventually deserve to be a princess. But that's years away.

TNA won't benefit from such an attitude, either. Their upper card is stacked to the gills, and if he's brought in, with his princess demeanor, he'll poison the well (even more) down there if not sent straight to the top. He needs a year or two to learn that having an attitude like his will get him nowhere.

To be fair, I'm sure that the vast majority of his gripes about not being used are legitimate. But, at this point, whose fault is that? Is there anyone who goes to the WWE anymore thinking they legitimately have a chance to be used properly? Look how long it took Cade and Murdoch. Or Palumbo. MVP and CM Punk are anomalies, IMO...the majority of folks fester for a long time without getting used properly, if at all.

On another note, Ryan Wilson (TNA's Trytan, OVW's Jacob Duncan) was released from his WWE contract this week. That's a shame. I thought they'd use him. Guess I'm wrong. In other OVW news, Ryan Reeves, who was released from his WWE contract some months ago, has moved to Louisville to work with OVW again in the chance that WWE will pick him back up. Guyver should be pleased about that.

OVW tomorrow night for me. Huzzah.

This picture of Harry Smith looks JUST like some kid's cereal I used to see in grovery stores as a kid. All I can remember is that it's a hot cereal, like fuckin' Maypo or CoCo Wheats.

Carlito always seemed lazy. He was interesting to watch when he was fueding with John Cena years ago but ever since it's been nothing but staleness. I guess after being made to be DH Smith's bitch he had just about enough of the WWE and asked for his release.

I always had issues with his ring style and felt the flying around he did really didn't suit him. I think had he approached a more Cena oriented heelish moveset, where Carlito only flew when he absolutely had to, he would have been far more interesting to watch in the ring. As it is, the backspring elbow and whatever else he does seems extremely forced and it's easy to tell that he doesn't seme comfortable doing it.

Now Carlito can leave WWE, where he's lost in the shuffle, and go to TNA, where he'll be lost in the shuffle BUT on a much smaller scale. Well, at least he'll be able to have the flip-floppy matches he wants, and they'd be forced to nix the "Caribbean Cool" parts of his character, which I'm all for - it's impossible to take him seriously due to apples being ALL OVER his ring attire. His inconsistent wrestling isn't going to do him any favors anywhere. Fortunately, unlike other lazy wrestlers, his father owns a wrestling company, so he'll at least have somewhere to work without needing to take a break.
it's impossible to take him seriously due to apples being ALL OVER his ring attire.

What about a sleek new white iCarlito?

It's got Finlay-Rey on it - it'll be a good show at some point. ...and Taker-Khali...okay, that'll probably suck shit. But Taker's worked miracles with Khali before, maybe he can do it now.

I just downloaded the show. I'm going to just watch the Punk/Noble match.

EDIT: Just saw the match. It doesn't end the way I thought it would and generally it left me happy.

Noble looked great out there.

As for the rest of SD, Finlay/Rey was even better than their PPV match, and I loved that match more than I expected to. One thing that I loved this match was how Finlay casually tore the buckle padding off - it wasn't the usual "OH THE BAD GUY IS TEARING THE PAD OFF!" thing, he reached up in the heat of battle, it came off, and was used logically in the match. Finlay's match structure is simply incredible. Every single thing in this match meant something, and by God, it had fans buying nearfalls off of dropkicks. Absolutely incredible. AND FINLAY WON THE THING, which made it even better. Then, the man who loves to fight, just kept beating the shit out of his opponent, and in what I assume is a response to Cyber Sunday, walloped him a laptop. Fantastic stuff.

Then you had Punk-Noble, which was getting really good until the ending, and Khali-Taker continued their run of having surprisingly good matches. I wasn't expecting to see Khali tap, so that added an element of surprise to the match, and I like that he did it to the triangle, which 'Taker hasn't won with before. Tonight's match cemented it as a move perfectly believable finisher by him.

JBL - When Jamie Noble’s been in the back with Gerry Brisco, there ain’t a good ear between ‘em.
(after Noble is the last man standing)Cole - What just happened?
JBL - Jamie Noble’s left tall, and I don’t think he’s ever been called tall in his entire life.
(Batista comes out)JBL - I’ve gotta take a call!
Cole - You know, it wasn’t very nice of you to leave when the world champion came out.
JBL - I apologize to all my fans for that. Business isn’t convenient, it happens when it happens.
JBL - Look, MVP’s the captain - he’s got a C on his chest.
(to JBL, and Moolah)Cole - Remember when she’s come up to you in the locker room and you’d be left with that lipstick on your face for the rest of the day?
JBL - Probably the only time you’ve been kissed by a woman.

The TNA puzzle pissed me off to no end until I figured out you could actually flip the pieces. I had half of it done and nothing matched anymore. Ha.

I like the fact Noble is getting a push. He deserves it. Call it RoH bias if you will but I'm a mark for Morrison as well.

The Miz can die.

Regarding the CNN comments...

CNN: A lot of talk about steriod use... drug use. Have you ever used steroids?

Cena: Absolutely not. And this is not -

(cuts Cena off)
CNN: Even back in the football days, the body building days?

Cena: This is a crazy question and it's something that is tough to answer just because of how society is now. The way people conceive things because performance enhancing drugs have got the spotlight and its a hot thing to talk about anytime you see any athletic in any athletic venue, could be the PGA Tour, acheive phsyical greatness, something that is beyond the norm, even for a top tier athelite, if top tier athel are rushing for a 1000 yards and somebody comes and starts running people over and rushing for 2000, it's not athetic acheivement anymore, and that's something that really gets me, it's he or she is on performance enhancing drugs and it's only because that certain athelites have gotten themselves into certain situations where automatically the finger is pointed at somebody: "Oh they're on performance enhancing drugs." My answer to that question, "Have you ever used steroids?", is the only thing I can say.

I can't tell you that I haven't but you'll never be able to prove that I have because each one of you, each one of you out there, has an opinion on how I carry myself and I can take a million tests, I've been tested for drugs since I've been 17 years old, I can take a million tests, I can pass every one of them, as soon as I pass it, there's some other guy on the other end going "Oh there's masking agents", there's this, there's that, I know the arguments because I've been in the situation.

This is a subject that's very, very near and dear to me only because since I was a very small child I've worked my ass off to get to where I'm at and it sucks to be able to have to deal with people saying that I rely on a crutch. You know I wake up everyday and I work myself to the bone because I love what I do. I got the best gig in the world. I love it. And it kills me to have to sit here and do this with one arm. Like I want to be back out there. You hear stories about guys coming home from the war and they're in the infirmary and all they want to do is get back in the field. I want to get back in the field. It's killing me.

But to have to deal with the popularity of a substance that enhances performance, it's tough to take. I take great pride in the fact that I have a god given gift of above average natural strength and I show it off whenever I can because to me that's fun, that's entertaining, that's what I love to do.
All that was reduced to a single sound byte.

Regardless of what I have said before, I have to admit that when I heard the comment, I felt it was strangely out of character for John Cena. Now I know why.
TNA's got their own save_us cryptic message viral video thing going on their site. It only took them a month+ to copy this WWE idea, and instead of WWE's method of doing it, which is to draw things out for drama, TNA starts it mere days before the message's conclusion at the PPV. Fabulous.
Where is this said video anyways?

Edit: Nevermind.... didn't realize it was a website hidden on TNA Today that lead to a jigsaw puzzle that ends up like this:

Ditto. No Mercy isn't my favorite 3d wrestler ever made (that honor goes to King of Colosseum II) but it is, in my opinion, the best one that ever made it out in the US. I still don't see it happening because of move issues but if it does, I begin the Wii hunt.

In regards to the No Mercy Wii thing, I was particularly intrigued by the fact that it was called WiiWare, NOT Virtual Console. Since WiiWare is going to be stuff that is original and newly worked on, it's entirely conceivable that there is a team that is being paid to *really* update, including the addition of moves. If Nintendo is committed to doing this correctly, it'd sell like gangbusters, and at least someone in power surely must recognize that.

My only gripe is that because we're getting it 'updated', it'll basically be an entirely new game. Looking at the roster of the original, which was HUGE, there are maybe, what, 10-15 guys that are still working with the company? *Wishful thinking mode activated* I know it will NEVER happen, but dear god, my dream would be to have them leave the original game intact, and just add in new wrestlers and moves. *Wishful thinking mode deactivated*.

Bah, now I'm all excited again. FPRW needs to get here sooner than Thursday.

EDIT - ok, so there's more like 20 guys (not including unlockables), but at least half of them are affiliated with the company in non-wrestling capacities (APA, Rock, Malenko, Tazz). I bored enough to check that out. Sorry.

Was it really too hard to give "Ravishing" Rick Rude his robe during his ring entrance, or were they too busy not getting the announcer to call him "Ravishing"?

I think they were busy searching the right elevator music catalogs for that dogballs stock music they gave him.

Speaking of which:
http://www.wwe.com/inside/cenaoncnn/

WWE is trying to do their spin on it. But it's obvious that Cena does roids just by the shape he's in. If he didn't, he'd look like Chris Masters after returning last year after the roid suspension.

Call me naive but I don't believe he does roids.

I wouldn't say it's "obvious" he does them, but if he doesn't, he's got the world's greatest genetics to look like he does despite having (when he was active) the busiest travel schedule in WWE.

Rude's theme in SvR '08 is a knock-off of "The Stripper", which was his WWF theme before they made their own theme for him. Thanks to the custom soundtrack feature on the 360 version, I don't mind it being used, but the lack of a robe, mic work (WWE owns basically every pre-match promo he's ever done, there's no reason they couldn't give Yuke's one for the game), and oh... everything else about his entrance being wrong irks me. The hip swivel DURING the Rude Awakening bugs me too, as I don't remember him ever doing it.

I love Funk promos. Every one of them. Ever.
Was it really too hard to give "Ravishing" Rick Rude his robe during his ring entrance, or were they too busy not getting the announcer to call him "Ravishing"?
I heard some time ago that he had legally changed his name to Ravishing Rick Rude... if true, they could use that name, no?

At least the Sabu entrance is badass.

The Rude one just annoys me...they gave him generic tights (the guy had HUNDREDS of tights, at least put a decent one on him) and no robe. Just a generic promo would have been fine - if they could do it for Triple H in WWF Attitude, why can't they do it in SvR?

A rundown of the historical Observer from 10 years ago that covered the Montreal screwjob - http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=21280

The coverage from this link gives you some of what happened to lead up to the screwjob. At one point, Bret's official site had the complete text, but Bret's site's been revamped and a lot of stuff seems to be missing, including that. Fortunately, the internet archive still has it - http://web.archive.org/web/20050207120528/www.brethart.com/montreal/facts.asp

Rude wore the tights he has in '08, but considering the dozens of elaborate designs he used, it is pretty generic, and so many other things about this video game incarnation of him are off that it's going to reduce how much fun I have with him, which is sad, as Rude's one of my all-time favorites. I don't recall whether he changed his name to "Ravishing Rick Rude", but even if he didn't, he went by that moniker in the WWF, and there wouldn't be a problem calling him that. Even Acclaim called him that in Showdown: LOW, which at least gave him a robe and did justice to his ring attire.

I remember no such thing. Probably because for a large part of that time I had no cable. Either way that would be amazing nowadays.

Are you going to come down for the december ROH shows? There's probably going to be a couple of crazy matches. Here are the cards for both nights.

I have a feeling Nigel McGuinnes vs. Bryan Danielson is going to main event Final Battle 2007. I can't see any other match headlining the Ring of Honor's final show for 2007. They've just been building up Nigel as being unable to put down Danielson since 2006. This should be where he gets the job done. Besides that Street Fight is probably going to be INSANE.

I also have a feeling that they'll put a Fight without Honor between Bryan Danielson and Morishima for the 5th PPV since they've been building up heat between the wrestlers since August. You can see the reaction they got in the show I put up.

Sunday WO news update - http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=21294

Nick Bockwinkel is recovering well, it's believed that CNN will edit the version of "Death Grip" that airs tonight so that Cena's reflected in a more accurate manner, and Kip James turned 44 today.
................................................................
Not a whole lot of news, but I'm glad that Bockwinke's recovering nicely from his bypass operation, and I hope CNN actually does make some changes to the documentary, as that editing faux pas hurt it a lot.
