Holy Christ I'm confused. I can't wait to see how even more of a cluster it seems like on the actual broadcast.
NEVER BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF TNA!
...except, of course, every time.
I hope this leads to another week of Mike Tenay pouting and making wacky faces on Impact - those were the highlights of the show 2-3 weeks ago when they did that shit where Angle won the belt from Sting, which I'd actually completely forgotten about until I remember what brought on the wacky faces.
The dude in the mask who jumped Abyss is Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli, doing his "REDRUM" gimmick. He'll be called Crimson Blood in TNA.
When I read a physical description of, I did think about that for a fleeting moment, though I've only seen one crummy photo of him in that getup. He kinds looked like Dragon Muta in the photo (but, again, it was a crappy pic).
I fully agree that it looks surreal, Brak. The good kind of surreal is sorely lacking in pro wrestling today. The bad kind of surreal (e.g., the finish to the title match tonight, or also the very hackneyed ing overcooked concept for the title match tonight) is in abundance.
How TNA can have as solid a roster as they do (their preshow match was LAX/Sonjay versus Triple X for 's sake, when WWE would give you Val Venis versus Snitsky or some shit!), and that they manage to squander their wealth through poorly written and overcooked crap storylines, is beyond me. The Team 3D/MCMG storyline is solid, and the Joe/Roode was okay (though I couldn't tell you a thing about it, it was so under the radar)...but the match booking, especially the finishes (on TV and PPV) are mindbogglingly irritating.
That said, I'll be glued to the TV at 9PM Thursday.

I'm all for anything that gets Stamboli on TV, but doesn't TNA have enough mid-card fodder lost in the shuffle. Shit, you've got LAX, WHO TNA PUT IN THEIR ROAD TO GENESIS SHOW BECAUSE THEY HAD A GREAT MATCH ON THE BIGGEST SHOW IN TNA HISTORY, doing NOTHING on the actual PPV. Zip. There's your reward for busting your asses, guys, you get to be in the DVD extra match. Hell of a way to keep talent from wanting to leave, TNA.
Stamboli actually did the MUTA gimmick for a little while in TNA, so the comparison between his current character and that one is pretty fitting. Crimson Blood as a name... I'm not sure if it's better or worse than Black Reign, but it's definitely not a good name, and it's a bit redundant since visible blood is always, you know, crimson.

Wasn't LAX working that show in Japan along with several other key TNA names? That might explain why they were not on the Genesis PPV.
Nope, they worked the pre game show apparently. Oh, and Kaz is already getting his world title match on this week's Impact, which will also feature Booker's Impact debut. Hell of a build for both of those things.
I have the game SvsR2007 for the PS2, I need help on unlocking Stone Cold. Gamefaqs says beat the Royal Rumble in season mode, but in my season mode I wasn't in the Royal Rumble. I was defending the title. So does anybody know how I can unlock Stone Cold?
I recall the rumor that he was in talks with WWE again, but I don't remember seeing him listed on any house shows.
Genesis thoughts (ongoing) -
The BLACK REIGN SHOP OF HORRORS! was a hilarious way to start the show. I can only imagine what a first-time viewer of TNA thought when Tenay started talking about the importance of Misty the rat in this feud, including the rat being placed on Abyss' head apparently being more vile that TRYING TO CRUSH A MAN'S HEAD WITH A VISE.
The mysterious black limo shown during the entrances had to make a first-time viewer double check to make sure they weren't watching a Nitro tape from '98, and I can't even fathom how "the workshop" could have made sense to a new viewer. Hell, I've seen every appearance of it so far and I'm not quite sure what it is, or where's it's located. There was one skit where it was in a parking area, then it was just in some sort of Impact Zone area filled with old PPV set logos, and now it's out in the ringside area. It could just stay there it wouldn't make any less sense than it does now. Onto minute seven of this PPV...
Minute seven - Don West buries match by saying that the only thing we know about it is that it's a no DQ match, while the emphasis on the rat in this feud makes me think that Abyss needs to get ahold of a cat of some kind to counter the rat. This would require a variety of skits, including one of Abyss at a pet shop, a pound, and then he can find one in the deepest, darkest corner of the Impact Zone, which may or may not be near the workshop. Skits involving the purchase of food and/or toys for this cat would also be quite great.
I'm glad Abyss was so considerate of Black Reign's health by starting his assault with the barb wire bat by hitting him in his bodysuit-covered stomach, instead of hitting exposed flesh with it. Shockingly, the chokeslam off the stage to the floor in mid-match meant absolutely nothing. At least it was replayed a few times, which is more than can be said about AJ Styles being thrown off the top of the cage to the floor in the Lockdown '07 main event, or James Storm being border tossed into a wall during the LAX feud, or Runt falling off the set at BFG '06. Tenay firmly establishing that Black Reign created the BLACK REIGN SHOP OF HORRORS match was hilarious, but not as funny as Don suggesting that Black Reign use the force to defeat Abyss.
The comedy of errors that was the shop of horrors just got better and better as it went on. After barb wire, a vise, a mouse, and tons of other wacky shit happened, they somehow expected BLACK REIGN USING KNUCKS to mean a goddamn thing to the crowd. Hilarious. And then Crimson Blood came out. Holy Christ, the show has just begun and I can't imagine how they can expect anything to mean something to the crowd after this spectacle.
Oh my God, it gets even better. Crimson Blood debuts, and is called a demonic-looking FIEND by DW. This is just hilarious. I'm going to be said when this kind of shit kills TNA, because it's a laugh riot. I can only imagine what a new viewer thinks when they see Kane Jr., La Parkadust, and a Muta clone dressed up like a gladiator on the ramp. Given how small Crimson Blood's ring attire is, they might think they've stumbled upon a horror-styled porno.
Abyss gets tossed off the stage, and this is the big visual impact we're left with -
Quotes for the opener (worthy of its own section) -
Pre-show video - TNA - WE ARE WRESTLING!
Penzer - The opening contest for Genesis is the BLACK REIGN REIGN SHOP OF HORRORS MATCH!

DW - THE ANTICIPATION IS ABSOLUTELY THROUGH THE ROOF!
Tenay - We are in the opening minutes of this Black Reign Shop of Horrors match - A MATCH THAT WAS INVENTED BY BLACK REIGN!

Tenay - WE CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT’S THE SAME KEY WE SAW RECENTLY ON IMPACT!
(after a suplex on two trash cans on the ramp)Crowd - TNA! TNA! TNA!
(after a flying shoulder block from Black Reign knocks Abyss down)Tenay - It isn’t often that we see Abyss go down like that!
DW - He needs to use the force.
(during the opening match featuring a vise, chains, road signs, baseball bats, chairs, a rat, a key, a big black box, and a barb wire bat)Crowd - BOR-ING! BOR-ING! BOR-ING!

(after a Black Reign pedigree into mouse traps)Tenay - HE HIT HIM WITH THE BLACK OUT! FACE FIRST RIGHT INTO THOSE RAT TRAPS!
DW - 1-2...NO!
Tenay - Wow, Don, can you imagine being put face-first into those dozens of rat traps!?
(after a vise, mouse traps, a barb wire bat, boards, signs, and a choke slam off the stage)Tenay - BLACK REIGN’S GOT THE KNUCKS! IT’S LEGAL!
(after Abyss wins the first-ever Black Reign shop of horrors match)Tenay - VERY IMPRESSIVE DON, when you can say that you’ve beaten a man in his own SPECIALTY MATCH! THE BLACK REIGN SHOP OF HORRORS, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER HERE IN TNA!
DW - This match had everything - barb wire, rats, garbage cans… NOW ABYSS HAS GRABBED THE KEY! REMEMBER WHEN BLACK REIGN TOLD HIM ‘YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE KEY’, WELL NOW HE HAS IT AND HE WANTS THE REWARD THAT THAT KEY’S GONNA BRING!
(as the BIG BLACK BOX is shown)Tenay - I’M CURIOUS AS TO WHAT THE CONTENTS ARE! What’s it say?
DW - It says ‘Crimson Blood’ on the box.
(Crimson Blood comes out of box)Tenay - WHO IS THIS, WHAT IS THIS!? I BELIEVE HE SPRAYED SOME KIND OF A MIST IN THE FACE OF ABYSS!
DW - THIS DEMONIC-LOOKING FIEND JUST CAME OUT OF THE BOX!
DW - BLACK REIGN’S GOT HIS DARKNESS FALLS WEAPON AS WELL!
Tenay - OH NO, NOT THE DARKNESS FALLS WEAPON!
DW - Black Reign and this… OTHER CREATURE are picking up Abyss AND THEY’RE PUTTING HIM INSIDE THE BLACK BOX!
(after Abyss is thrown off the stage)DW - WHAT JUST HAPPENED HERE?!
Tenay - I’VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE! On that note, let’s go to Jeremy Borash IN THE BACK!

Kinda no brainer on what to do. You've got to lose the title at Armageddon or New Year's Revolution(don't remember which one goes before RR in story mode). My brother had the same problem.

I am done with season mode. I already played the Royal Rumble.
Will it work if I just play a Royal Rumble in Exhibition? Will I get the Royal Rumble trophy that way.
Thanks Scorch. I saw the match on dailymotion earlier.
You can see that Booker is *charged* about wrestling again in his body language. Add to that the fact that he showed up in TNA rather quickly suggests he's not the kind of Rikishi-like primadonna who would hold out for more money. Classy.
i still havent been able to figure out how to get flaming tables....
Since it sounds like you already have the game, might as well ask. Is the 24/7 mode as screwed up as the IGN reviews makes it sound(limited selection of wrestlers, no ECW brand)?
Just noticed when IGN brought it up today, but the PSP version has 3 exclusive legends(Neidhart, Eddie Guerrero & Sgt. Slaughter). Anyone want to take a guess how quickly THQ sells them on the marketplace as DL content for the PS3 & 360 versions?
*Edit- just looked at the unlockables for the game. They wasted two spots on Vince(one regular, one bald)? That really shows how THQ is wasting the spots that could go to actual wrestlers(Paul London seems to be omitted from the last two games).
this may be old news, may not be... apparently umaga has "overruled" mr kennedy and will be wrestling triple h tonight on raw in the lumberjack match. ing gay i was actually looking forward to watching kennedy v. triple h.
thought you guys might find this interesting, specially considering a few posts back someone said nic cage was doing research for the movie at an ROH show
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Original, Nicholas Cage was going to topline Darren Aronofsky's next flick THE WRESTLER, but this morning came news that not only was Cage not in the film anymore, but Mickey Roarke has signed on to play Randy "The Ram" Robinson. I certainly buy Roarke as an older wrestler who gets back in the ring for one more ROCKY BALBOAesque shot at glory more than Nicholas Cage. In fact, wasn't Roarke a boxer?
I don't mean to shit on Cage. I actually like him as an actor, but in this role I think Roarke is ten times more interesting in the role. What about you?
It's a pretty good knock-off of his old WCW/WWE theme. Given that it's just production music though, I'm kind of surprised TNA didn't just try to get the rights to it, but it is probably best in the long run for them to have a theme that they own for him.
WWE shop is selling the "Triumph and Tragedy of WCCW" dvd for $21.96, but for $2 more, you can get a heather grey t-shirt with the WCCW logo on it in black.

Yea i started playing the ps2 version but since started to play the psp version..atleast until i pick up the 360 version..
so far im not really enjoying the 24/7 (career mode)...its really not that entertaining and the cutscenes sometimes make no sense...plus some of the storylines are stupid ( fighting for a movie role??)
the roster to pick from in the 24/7 mode is pretty crappy... no ecw.. (which pretty much eliminates all the new ppl i really wanted to play with)
You may enjoy it if you liked the gm mode last year.. but im not really into the raising stats/resting thing. you may end up just simulating through everyday of the week until its time to wrestle etc..
the psp version does have the extra legends...and they have actually improved the loading times which was a nightmare in previous installments.. i actually can give it a thumbs up
I haven't marked out like that in a while.
Indeed. It's even sweeter when the person you're marking out for is clearly marking out themselves.
On another note...get your ass in gear, Midway. Omitting Booker T from the TNA game would be like leaving Triple H out of SvR.
...I was just thinking about this: has the ship sailed on Jericho's return? I'm excited about it, but far less so than I was 3 or so weeks back. Are they taking too long? (I know this is contradictory to my "the anticipation is always better than the payoff" mantra).)
Are they taking too long?
Depends on what the pay off is going to be. If its Jericho vs Umaga (or something akin to that)..that ship sunk on its way out of the shipyard. But if its something watchable (Though nothing watchable springs to mind currently), then it'd maybe worth it.
Indeed. It's even sweeter when the person you're marking out for is clearly marking out themselves.
He looked really happy, mang.
At this point, if the Jericho return doesn't amount to something meaningful, it's wasted hype. You can't promote something for weeks and have it go nowhere - ask Glacier.
The WWE has to be really careful not to bait and switch this. There's a lot of buzz on Jericho's return, both industry and mainstream, and if they screw it up, you've wasted everyone's time.
He's probably going to come back as a face, and if that's the case, he needs to be super-face and get a top spot immediately. Having him wrestle Cade and Murdoch for a few weeks or something would be terrible - if nothing else, let him wrestle Kennedy. I've got a feeling we'll see the Elimination Chamber come into play very soon with Orton, Kennedy, Michaels, Jericho, Umaga, and either Triple H or Jeff Hardy.
I really dig Beth Phoenix's theme music. It's just so original in this day and age. It also lets you know someone important is coming down the aisle.
Seriously. It's a shame Victoria is on SD now. They could have had some great matches, but then, with all the interpromotional shit going on now, there's a shred of hope for that.
I'd say more than a shred (especially since she was on Raw in that dumbass sumo outfit for the Halloween episode)...save for the fact that she's the on-the-backburner diva. I don't think that they would have a competitive match given how the WWE surely looks at Victoria's position in the company at the moment. Kinda like when RVD wrestled Jerry Lynn on Sunday Night Heat.
Last week's ECW rating: 1.2
Last week's TNA: Impact rating: 1.5
That's the first time TNA programming beat any first-run WWE programming in the ratings. I can't help but wonder if that's behind a lot of this cross-show stuff tonight (and tomorrow, since the ECW main event features zero ECW guys).
I don't think Impact got a final 1.5 rating - that was the estimate. The final was about 1.2 or so. Jericho video update - the 2nd coming is happening in 6 days, 23 hours, and 55 seconds. YAY, Bryan Danielson's theme (Final Countdown) is used during the Sonic/Mario game ads.
The last Y2J video was a touch too obvious, like TNA's pisspoor attempt from the other day. I prefer ambiguity, and they, as always, bludgeon me over the skull with their idea of mystery and subtlety.
I like how WWE did it - the stuff only aired for a single frame, and was still more subtle than TNA's thing. Jesus they're really loading up on pointless stips for this Orton-HBK match, now HBK doesn't get a shot for as long as Orton is champion if he can't win. Just let the match sell itself, damn. Damn thing has like three goofy stips attached to it, with only one of them being really logical. Did Russo come back?
