The Falcons Are In The Wild - But Rarer Than A Mewtwo! Gotta' Catch Them All!
Fry's online is selling 360s w/HDMI out. So that's a definite way of getting the new heatsink.
So are you saying that the new Premiums w/HDMI have the new heatsink on them? I don't care about the HDMI part, what I'm really concerned is if the new HDMI Premiums will be able to last longer/have lower rate of the "rings".

I read this whole thread and all this confirmed/unconfirmed got me confused now

I'm almost 100% postitive. I haven't heard of a HDMI premium without the new heatsink (though, not many have been sold at this time). I'm sure MS doesn't want anymore broken 360s they have to pay for and all future 360s will have the heatsink.
do you really need the breakout dongle for the audio? looks like you've got room to plug in both HDMI and whatever A/V cable you already have.

:drool:salivating at the chance to capture video on my cheap little RCA->USB box while using HDMI to view on my TV (make gameplay videos for my Gears clan). as of right now I have to use a digicam for offscreen footage . come to think of it they'll probably only enable one video out at a time...
That'd be great if that's the case that you could pipe out optical from the top and use the HDMI for video only, but i'm a bit skeptical on that. But then again I don't have the unit so i'm not gonna say for certain. Just saying it's gonna suck if they force you to pay $50 for a damn HDMI cable just so you can get Optical audio out.

The more important thing is the cooler chip and DVD drive though. Maybe with that unit you won't have to replace your xbox every year like I have since launch :)

and unfortunately the cooler chip is very very unconfirmed and dvd drive is still a crapshoot as they're still using multiple versions.

lol I had a dream last night where some website finally did a teardown of several new HDMI-enabled 20gig 360's :applause::lol:
Uhhhh....if you don't want to use optical, can't you just buy a generic HDMI cable?
not my point. it's still a rip.

The heatsink plus the new chip would be ideal but from everything I've read, Microsoft isn't going to announce/confirm what chips they are using.

So I guess we can either wait for someone to crack their system open or keep an eye out for the systems with the new heatsink. Supposedly if you have HDMI, then you have the new heatsink.

With MS extending the warranty, they're going to do EVERYTHING they can to avoid the RRD issue. If they can spend $1.50 to save the cost to ship the broken 360s to the repair center, pay someone to repair it, then pay to ship it back they will do it.

I agree, the new products are almost guaranteed to have the new heat sink.

The heat sink's a no-brainer. They've been sticking them in repaired systems for what? Almost a year now? Like Crimson said, they're cheap and if there's a chance that it'll result in say, 10% less repairs they have to do, they'll definately put it in all the consoles.

At this point we should have a race to see who's launch 360 will last the longest without any sort of heatsink augmentation. Mine's still in the running which is nuts considering the hours that I've sunk into it via Oblivion.

Looks like the boxes do indicate HDMI output:

Hey thanks a lot, you've helped me out tremendously. :D

Question:

I bought my 360 from Best Buy at launch, with their replacement plan. I've replaced it once so far, and I've been living off a RLoD box for the past week.

How can I be sure that, when I finally get around to getting my box replaced again, I can get a Premium with HDMI and 65nm?

Make sure it says HDMI on the box. We don't really know about 65nm though. It's possible none of these have the new chips, or all of them do.

Will the old boxes without HDMI be taken out of the stores eventually?

Good news for people looking to buy a 360, the packages now have printed on them if they contain the new HDMI port, and when the new Falcon chips come out it should be marked like the Zephyr ones.

Thats good to know. I just wish I could exchange my 360 for one with the new chip and HDMI. I just got my 3rd 360 in the mail a few days ago but it wasn't a new one.

Yeah I still got a EB warranty on mine, I'm gonna wait until winter or so for the old ones to clear out and then exchange my 360 for a new one.

I think the zephyr ones are the old ones. It should say Falcon for the new ones, right? My launch 360 just died on me a week ago and I have a replacement plan. So as soon as these things hit the shelves at my local best buy I'll pick one up.

I got mine through BB and i did get the 3 rings of death. So I sent it in and they gave me a gift card for the amount that I paid for. So I bought the Elite for the $450 and I now have another year of warranty. And at least xbox bumped up the 3 ring of death to 3 years now ;)

Ah you're right, edited the story.

Good to know the boxes are marked. When we start seeing premiums that are Falcon and $300 I'll take the plunge. Hopefully the rumors are true and that will be this fall, if not I have no problem waiting indefinitely as $300 is as high as I'm willing to go.

Isn't the PRP for a gift card? That would mean you can get whatever you want.

My launch console is still running fine but I kinda want a new 360. I just dont want to risk getting a crap one because my regular 360 is running fine. So what should I do? Sell my launch console on ebay for about $300 or just keep my console. The other thing is I dont want to wait for microsoft to fix my thing if it dies.

I'm on the same boat, i want to play Halo 3 when its out, but i dont want to buy a 360 now with the new heatsink+hmdi if it is going to have all that plus the new chips for alot cheaper and not much longer after Halo 3 possibly.

Man good thing i bought the replacement warranty on my xbox. however it is RRoD free. it does have its issues. Maybe itll be time to use my $50 waranty for some good. and its not like ill have to buy anotehr warranty since the MS is now 3 years unlike the 90days like it was when i first bought it.

Personally I wouldn't do anything. You are worrying too much and getting caught up with all the price drop/new system hype. Your console is fine. Save yourself the hassle.

And like you said, you don't want to get a crap machine if yours is fine. I say keep yours as long as you can. Assuming it lasts a few more months, by that time, the 65nm chips should be out everywhere and you have nothing to worry about. Right now you have no reason to justify getting a new console.

The box for the HDMI premiums say that they are using the Zephyr chip, not the Falcon (65nm) one.

I'm still tempted to switch out my old premium to get the HDMI, but not if its just going to cost me another $50 to switch out again when they come out with the Falcon versions.

I received the elite I ordered from amazon a few days ago. The manu. date is 6-8-2007.

The weird thing is, is that the original box seal was cut and another clear seal was put over it. I called amazon and they told me to return it.

Also if you buy with that link CAG gets money :D

I never understood this... What is the benefit of the 65nm chips vs the current ones? Supposily Lot #0727 has HDMI, new heatsink, and a quieter drive, and Lot #0728 has the 65nm chips, but since 0728 is not out yet, what is the benefit of waiting?

I saw 0729 Elites at best buy 2 days ago.

Okay.. I musta heard wrong then..

But still, whats the benefit of the 65nm? I basically have money in my hand waiting to find out whether I should get a 360 now or wait.

There is little benefit to you. It will reduce the heat, but it is not the solution to the red rings. The new heatsinks are the answer and are being installed in the new HDMI premimums. If you want a 360 now, you should no longer have to worry about hardware failures (if you get a HDMI premium).
