The Fall 2010 Television Thread

watched detroit 187, killer show.. cant go wrong with christopher with sopranos, new sunny in philly is great of course, waiting for sunday for Bored To Death and East Bound and Down on HBO.

Only show I'm watching is the end of the fourth season of Venture Bros on Adult Swim. Otherwise I can't be bothered to watch most episodic tv anymore, though I do watch the sporadic episode of American Pickers and/or Pawn Stars if I remember they're on on Mondays.

I'll be sticking to my usual shows this season which is Smallville, The Office, 30 Rock, and Friday Night Lights. I got The Event on my DVR so I'll check it out this weekend. Plus I hope that Parks & Recreation is back sooner than expected since I got a feeling Outsourced won't last.

Raising Hope was great.. Big Bang Theory and 30 Rock were as well, but that was expected..

but oh my god, Outsourced was terrible. TERRIBLE!
yes.
yes yes yes yes yes.

i thought that was hilarious even though most people won't get the joke it was freaking hilarious.

The Office was surprisingly good. Surprising only because lately it can go either way. "NardMAN is my father"

I'm not sold on Nikita but I have a lot of time and now I have something in English to watch when I'm procrastinating and I've watched everything else.
Outsourced was crap... who the hells idea was that?

Seems like some bad corporate made show, where no actual talent was used to make it.
was it just bad bad like Un-Hitched or was it decent idea bad execution like Cave-Men.

Not really big on ABC/CBS/FOX/NBC shows, but I will be watching Dexter, The Walking Dead, Sanctuary and Stargate Universe (and hope its not fucking boring like season 1).

I still do NOT get how folks find The Office funny at all. I tried watching it the one night and it was putting me to sleep. The only thing I chuckled about for a second or two were the local references(I'm from the city the US version is centered around). Otherwise it was like watching Office Space but without the laughing.

As for Nikita, I prefer the 90's version with Peta Wilson that used to be on USA. Hopefully they don't cancel the new one after wrapping up the whole show and then try to bring it back like they did with La Femme Nikita cuz every episode after the 'restart' was a bit more confusing and annoying.:whistle2:#

To be honest The Office is a show that is far better if you watch it from the beginning. If you got Netflix the first five seasons are available via instant streaming.

Nah. I hate episodic tv for the most part anymore. Unless it's a show I've got a decent interest in(Venture Bros), then I'll consider watching the continuing episodes.

But The Office just seemed a bit dry to me.
But The Office just seemed a bit dry to me.
Because you didn't start at the beginning.

But it could've just been the episode. Some are lamer than others.

I tried to get my sister and her kids to watch season 1 with me and they couldn't make it past two episodes. I think it shines more by season 2 but either way it can be sorta dry. If you're not watching 'episodic' TV I'm curious as to what it is you do watch.

Eastbound & Down, Dexter and Metalocalypse all have their premieres on sunday. It should be a good night.
And the first new show to get axed is..... Lone Star.

http://www.deadline.com/2010/09/its-official-fox-cancels-lone-star/

Poor poor Adrianne Palicki.
Well, that's a shame. I was going to get around to watching the first two episodes sometime this week. Guess there's no point to that, and we'll have another "Smith" on our hands. Probably the only way we'll see the other three episodes already in the can is to wait for them to go to DVD or online.

Lie To Me takes over its slot next Monday, which is a good thing.

Who didn't see that coming with the ratings it was getting?

---

Last night's episode of The Event was even better than the first. Chase was decent, too.

I tried to watch the first episode of Lone Star.. I didn't even make it for ten minutes. I remember seeing the preview and saying "cool, another show soon to be canceled by Fox".. I thought it'd last longer than two episodes, though.

Side note.. I'm a HUGE fan of Chuck. s04e01 did nothing for me, but last night's episode was amazing. I seriously doubt it'll get renewed or even the back 9, but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. SO GOOD.

Good to know that The Event was better this second episode. I need to watch Chase, which I heard was weak in the first episode.

Chuck's been brought in for 13 episodes.

I know. That's why I said it probably won't get the back 9. As much as I would love it to, it still can't seem to break out of the 1.8-2.3m viewers range
I really hope they pick up Chuck for the second 1/2 of the season.
+1. But I'm expecting the status quo, meaning new "Chuck might be canceled stories" popping up in a couple of weeks.

Man, I feel overwhelmed with all the new shows in addition to all the returning shows. I don't want to watch 2-3 hours of tv everyday, which is what I'd inevitably wind up doing if I tried to watch everything that I'm remotely interested in.

Big Bang Theory season premiere was awesome. I can't remember the last time I've laughed out loud watching a tv show multiple times (this includes Community and Modern Family, which are two shows that I really enjoy), but this episode did it for me. Very entertaining. Hopefully the rest of the season can maintain a high level of quality.

dude i need to rewatch the Event. I was up on CAG while I was watching it so maybe because I wasn't paying attention I hadno idea what was going on. It kinda sucked. Like Flashforward. A wanna be Lost but without the cohesiveness, but that is just a first impression. I'll watch it again and make sure.

Lonestar wasn't that bad actually. I have no idea how it would last storywise past 3 episodes but the first one wasn't terrible.

It'll probably depend on The Event and Chase remaining with decent to good ratings, since anyone who isn't DVR-equipped will probably watch the complete NBC block if they like the other two shows.

And yes, there's a lot of TV going on right now, and I have multiple DVRs I need to go through to catch up. That's what happens when you go out of town the week of the new premieres and are busy the following weekend.

BBT was some of the funniest TV I've seen in a while, and I can hope they'll try to keep up that level of funny through the season, though it'll be tough. Even when BBT isn't on top of its game, it's still better than a lot of the comedies out there.
No Ordinary Family was pretty solid. Liked the pacing a bit, though it did drag at some points.
Good to hear it was good. I was concerned that ABC might screw it up, though it's just the initial episode, so anything's possible 5-6 episodes in.

Sons of Anarchy is coming along very well.

The Colony season finale ending WTF?!?!

Boardwalk Empire is awesome.

Dexter is back!

The Event had a decent pilot and I will continue to watch.

Supernatural is back!

I might have to check out The Chase, initially I thought it was NBC's version of In Plain Sight however, it has nil to do with witness protection and all about hunting dangerous fugitives.

Didn't watch No Ordinary Family Last night, going to take a wait and see approach with this one.
Looks like I won't bother starting Undercovers or Outlaw.

If Community gets axed & Outsourced lives, I may seriously have to kill someone.
Outlaw looked DOA from every single review/comment I read on it. Friday night timeslot only works for some shows, and I don't think it was going to do well.

I liked Undercovers, and I think given a few episodes, it'll get its legs and get some better ratings. If they canned it, I wouldn't be surprised, since it is NBC.

I can't see Community getting axed over Outsourced, since I've not heard of anyone liking Outsourced over Community. Plus, since S1 of Community went for cheap at Target and super cheap at Amazon with coupon, people should be watching S2.

Blah, I don't want Chuck to get canceled, but I am tired every year of worrying if Chuck will get canceled or not. I hope they just give it a proper ending for this season... and NBC better let it finish airing.

Is mid-November when a back 9 order is due for the current season if there is to be one? Better keep my fingers crossed, then.

Definitely agree with how you feel about BBT, shrike. Psych is also another show that even when it's not on top of its game, I still highly enjoy (although the first half season this year was a bit disappointing).

Oh my god, that can't be a serious possibility...if this happens at NBC, their TV department will need a major overhaul. I wonder if we could take them to court for cruel and unusual punishment XD. And besides, if for no other reason, the world needs more Alison Brie!

I just finished watching the first episode of Blue Bloods. I thought it was pretty good. Tom Selleck is always awesome.

I also watched Shit My Dad Says. Good God, that show is horrible. I stopped it with about 15 minutes left. The only reason that show might last is because it's sandwiched between Big Bang Theory and CSI.

I've heard that the CW might be interested if NBC doesn't renew Chuck.. time will tell.. but hopefully Chuck stays with NBC!

That's funny because they already had a failed version of a show close to the same vein as Chuck called Jake 2.0. It aired in 2003 on UPN.

have 2 episodes of lone star recorded, still havent watched it.

shit my dad says lasted about half the episode, man that was bad.

running wilde, seems like it could be funny but needs a little more work, going to stick with it.

the event, im watching it. im surprised (2nd episode spoiler)
they dropped the alien bomb so quickly,
but hey we called it after the first episode. gonna stick with it for now, the timeline jumping around is a little lostish, and actually i have a whole lost vibe from the show, like its what theyre trying to duplicate. but they havent even come close to it yet, the first episode of lost is probably the best 2 hours of television ever.

agreed, community is my favorite network comedy by far. outsourced was meh, just doesnt seem like they can drag on the premise for that long.

Chuck however has enough of an audience that would help the CW's ratings tremendously. As far as Outsourced goes.... that show needs to be taken to the back of the woodshed and shot repeatedly until dead then stab it in the heart with a wooden stake just to make sure its fully dead. Then burn its dead corpse just to really make sure its dead.

Even if that is the case, I just want the show to have a real ending. Please do not end like Veronica Mars. :(

Yeah, I had read a similar article about Zucker. It's interesting he is being forced out, because in the article I read, it said that GE was only selling 51% of NBC (to Comcast). I guess maybe that was inaccurate and it's a complete sale. Someone at Comcast deserves a high-five, at the very least.

Yeah, community is great. I think Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Chuck, and Psych are up there as well, in terms of solid comedy shows. In recent years, I was never a big comedy guy, besides religiously watching Curb Your Enthusiasm, but this has really changed.

My new favorite show this year is quickly becoming Raising Hope on FOX. I really recommend it for anyone who likes dark comedies. It's written by the same guy who created My Name is Earl, and I've seen people compare it to Malcolm in the Middle. Best new comedy for sure.

It'd be a serious shame if Community got axed and Outsource didn't. Hell, it'd be a serious shame if Community got axed at all. Then again, even more of shame would be not axing Outsourced...

I think that website is being fairly ridiculous in trying to predict things this early in the season. In some cases, some of those shows haven't even aired more than one episode yet. The only shows you can really call this early on are the ones that do horrifically bad or those from last season that kept their ratings. Even new shows that do extremely well can't be called at this point due to people just tuning in to find out what the show is like. This time last year, Flashfoward's ratings were fairly strong.
I guess that would be Chuck coming home to WB, since WB produces the show. I'm sure people would follow Chuck to whatever network it's on, including myself.
The bad thing for moving to the CW is that it usually means a much smaller budget. In Chuck's case, I'm not really sure how much that'd matter as the show has been cutting its budget pretty much every year as a way of staying afloat. The show might not have to change much if they move networks, which would be great.
