The Gamers You Loathe
you made an assumption on that.

you should talk to the people who smoke and do drugs. they say they're in control but are they really?! hmmm??
Those things have physical addictions rather than just psychological....

I get the point you're making, but mine was just that people shouldn't be so weak as to get so addicted to something like games.
"I Hate Gamestop" gamers. Half of them judge the company based on one store; the other half do it to be cool.

It's an extremely successful business, so obviously they're doing more things right than wrong.
Meh. I don't bash them to be cool, or judge them based on one store. I've had several bad experiences, and lot of it just comes from the fact that most "hardcore" (for lack of a better term) gamers just rub the wrong way, as do little kids running around unattended. The store is pretty much staffed and shopped by those two crowds so it just annoys the hell out of me every time I go in there.

Add in shit like selling opened games as new, paying shit on trade ins, overpriced used games, hawking preorders, etc. etc. and it's just a miserable place.

Yes, they're making money so they're doing something right, but that doesn't mean it's a pleasant place to shop for everyone.
I hate:

they are the worst XD LOL

with today, anything can be a person's high. it's no longer about drugs. it's anything that we can use to get away from reality. david duchovny is a good example, you may say how the hell did he became fixated on porn. well as long as we have something to make us dream then we'll become addicted to it.

I'm not saying such addictions don't happen. Just that they're pathetic (even more pathetic than drug/alcohol/tobacco addictions) and people should have the self control to not get addicted to games.

I never said they don't happen, just that I have no sympathy for them and place the blame entirely on the person.

I can't stand the following types:

achievement whore
The only time I dislike this group (which I consider myself one of) is when a multiplayer game breaks down into working on achievements. That's why I hate multiplayer achievements in general. Try to get into a TF2 match without getting pestered about achievements.

Otherwise, I tend to like these people, as they will usually go out of their way to play a game with you that otherwise may fall by the wayside. As long as they're not disrupting the flow of a multiplayer match, I don't see what's to hate about them.

gamers that get all pissy when you say you don't like a certain genre of games (for example RPGs) when the only one they've played is FF7 or something like that.

Console fanboys. I hate the Nitendo ones the most, because if you're not bending over taking it from Mario and Zelda, then you're "not a real gamer." The other ones that piss me off are the ones that crtisize you for buying/having interest in other systems. I knew this guy who was a PS3 fanboy, yet the only games he owned were COD4 and Rockband. He didn't know shit about games yet he literally got pissed at me when I told him I was picking up a 360. Another guy I knew was a Wii fanboy and said that Mario Kart Wii was better than anything on 360 or PS3. Yeah, sure.

People who say PSP has no games. That argument barely held up in 2005.

People who only play Guitar Hero talking to me like I don't know anything about games.

"That guy". You know, the person who was the only person in a group of friends to religiously train on a game, ultimately raping his friends with every chance they got. People start to become reluctant to play with him/her immediately and much rather prefer a different game.

I should know, I used to be "that guy".

Pretty much, but I'd think of it as a more extreme version. It's as if the person were living and breathing the game where as the rest of the clique treats the game as a casual way to get together. There's definitely going to be some sort of seperation or alienation if this is the case.

I also hate those smelly gamers. A stick of deodorant isn't too much to ask, right? Thank goodness for the internet.

I've got one!

People who go "WHA! WHA! REVIEWS DON'T MATTER AT ALL BECAUSE I DON'T AGREE WITH THEM! REVIEWS ARE COMPLETELY USELESS AND EVERYONE SHOULD DISREGARD ALL OF THEM! WHA! WHA!"

Piss me off.

I will agree with you about smelly gamers. I remember when I was working retail and this guy came in and you knew if you were near him, because you could smell him like... HOLY fuckING SHIT THIS GUY IS RANCID. It was awful. And like, it was a big store, and you could tell exactly where he'd been based on the stench. It was kinda cool to pretend I was a dog with a heightened sense of smell, though, I think an actual dog's nose would explode from this stimulus.

Needless to say, an entire can of Oust was used to erase his essence.

I think "Smelly gamers" is a silly one. You can be smelly without being a gamer.

Story:

So at my school, there's this little building we call the Sports Complex across the way from the school proper. It has a weight room and a matted room, so we use it for gym class for lifting weights and dodgeball. So we're playing dodgeball this one day, and we have this kid, he just smells fucking terrible. So he's on the opposite team I am, right? So we play a game of dogeball, and when it's over, we switch sides and our team goes over to the other side of the room. It smells fucking rancid. So we play another game, and then switch sides...and now the other side smells terrible, too.

We opened all the windows. I hope he felt shame the way we felt his odor.

I think there's a direct correlation between fat people and bad smell, too. I should do a scientific study of that, but I don't like bad smells.

Naw, but if you have someone in shape who just excercised or some shit, they don't necessarily make you want to die from their Essence.

If you have a fat fat fat fat guy, then chances are he hasn't showered since whatever year it was he could still fit in a shower, so he smells approximately like a combination of rotten meat and semen.
A bookworm is a hardcore reader. A hardcore bookworm would be redundant. Same with movie buff.

Also, "gaming enthusiasists?" Seriously?
You missed the point entirely. We don't go up to people and say, "Oh, you read? Well are you a casual reader or a bookworm?" "You like movies? Are you a casual watcher or hardcore?" So why are these terms applied to gaming? If somebody plays a game they are instantly labeled as a "gamer" whether it be hardcore or casual. The same just isn't true for other forms of media.

It's just that gaming isn't as mainstream as books and movies. Pretty much everyone reads and watches movies at least occasionally. Not everyone plays games, especially not console games (i.e. if you don't count playing Solitaire or Bejeweled at work etc.).

So people just call people that play games a gamer. We just get the hardcore/casual stuff in the gaming community from all the nerds that want to differentiate themselves from the Madden gamers etc. They're little hobby isn't so little anymore so they have to do something to try to still feel unique/superior in the gaming crowd.

And terms like movie buff are used much more commonly than hardcore gamer etc. since they are used by regular people. It's pretty common for somone to go "you're a movie buff huh?" or something like that when I start talking about a foreign film I liked or they see my DVD racks etc. Book worm is not used so freely as that's usually taken as an insult.

Point being, people do make labels for people who are more into something than others. Another example, I love micro brew and import beers and get labeled a beer snob. For gaming, "gamer" covers if for non-gamers as gaming hasn't gotten big enough that Joe Six Pack non-gamer is familiar with terms like hardcore gamer etc.

Because I want to trust someone else opinion then using my own judgment. Game Reviews do not matter to sales at all.

Nintendo fanboys are the worst, ever, period.

You know, the ones who ALWAYS make the same arguments? "LOLOLOLOL GAMEPLAY>>>>>GRAPHICS go bakc to halo Xbot!!"

"WiFi is free LOL so it's sooooooo much better than xbox Live-gay!!!!"

"lol voice chat, leaderboards, lag-less games all dun matter i dun even care about online it's stupid lololol".

"Nintendo is so revolutionary and the Wii remote is amazing and is not a gimmick in any game at all!"

"omg liek wtf there are all these people who don't play mario just cuz it's kiddy jeez it's not kiddy don't dismiss a game because of 2D graphics nubbbbb go back your new-fandgled fps'"

And really only what makes some of these arguments annoying is that they argue with THEMSELVES. They just make topic about all these alleged people who hate Mario when I only see people hating on people who hate Mario and not people who actually hate Mario.

The extreme anti-Halo/FPS people are horrible as well, but they usually fall into the category of extreme Nintendo fanboy.

And the "OMG EA SUCKS SO BAD THEY NEVER MAKE GOOD GAMES" is really annoying. As well "REAL GAMERS DUN PLAY THEM CRAPPY SPORTS GAMES LIKE MADDEN".

Or when people justify a completely crappy WiFi experience or defend Nintendo to death over obviously bad design choices or laziness.
The hardcore J-Rpg gamers. Their reflexes are PURE SHIT. Because of this they don't play any other games except animu story driven games that don't require twitch reflex or precision. Due to this, they hate all other games and call them stupid or jockish. The theory is if you can't play fighting games or shooters, you play Animu rpgs and disparage any other game type that isn't slow paced. I've had animu rpg fans tell me flat out that Unreal sucks, Duke sucks, Quake sucks, KOF Sucks, Street Fighter sucks simply because their reflexes are fucking shot to hell.
Total bullshit. I consider myself a hardcore RPG fan but I play plenty of other games as well. Just because people with shitty reflexes prefer to play RPGs doesn't mean all RPG fans suck at other types of games.
Yeah, yeah. There's exceptions to everything. Don't get bent out of shape over it.
I would say that what you described was the exception. I know way more RPG fans who like other kinds of games as well than ones that only play RPGs because they suck at everything else.

Ok back to the self-loathing gamer thread!

Gamers that think Mature games actually make them more mature. It's like those little 12 year olds that think watching a rated R film will make them cool. Except in this case, many of these gamers aren't 12...

Tourney whores: The guys that take all the fun out of gaming. While I understand rules for actual tournaments, these guys are generally dedicated in ruining a game's true potential even in regular "fun" matches. It's like gaming is some kind of serious job/career/...religion to them. Regrettably I wasted time hanging out with some of these types back in my junior high, in desperation of finding someone that remotely likes games...

And with that I'm done. If you don't get it by now, you're not going to. :/

They're topics that are relevant all the time so I don't see a problem. It's not like he's bumping a thread on his thoughts about Mass Effect.

I don't see the big deal either. Better than starting new threads for similar things.

I'll add one:

Nerds on gaming forums that going on pissy fit rants over nothing. I swear CAG is getting worse by the day and closer to gamefaqs. Too many lifeless losers and too many teenagers.

people who swear up and down the wii is an awesome console and that mtion controlls are everything. the wii is junk the games are the same damn shit weve seen on nintendo consoles for years now only slightly better. and wiimote controls are a damn joke. i especially hated those commercials they used to show before the console came out of people hiding behind couches and jumping around wildly and hopping ( yes fucking hopping around ) while playing the damn thing. it was bigtime false advertising and stupid.

say what you will the damn thing is basically the pet roc for this generation. most people who buy them do so only because they see these dumb commercials and want one to try out and then leave sitting somewhere or to be able to say yeah i have a wii too. regardless of sales the system itself is a joke and youre only kidding yourself if you think it will improve and the games will get better.

i also hate people who debate on the pros and cons of the 360 and the ps3. you either have 1 or the other or both but shut the fuck up i dont care. if you thin the ps3 is losing fine shut the fuck up if you think the 360 is lame fine shut the fuck up. im a gamer first i just like games and i think both systems have alot to offer in their own way but these pointless debates over who is winning or losing or whose better or worse get you nowhere.

this generation there really isnt even a console war anymore the wii has saturated the market with nongamers who only buy as advertised and because of that the other 2 consoles are just trying to keep afloat. thankfully they have deep pockets to reach into until then.

Wow, spot on!

Luckily my friends play Super Smash the correct way, with items. Any other way is just wrong.

Why does there have to be a correct way?

Also, why all the hate on Madden gamers? Last time I checked it's still a good football game. It's also the only way to play the video game form of the most popular sport in America. Why do you care if someone just wants to play Madden when they chill out? Not everyone wants to learn new control schemes or follow convoluted story lines that make zero sense. Alot of people don't want to deal with emo protagonists that basically have poon tang thrown at them but can't step up to the plate.

Now don't get me wrong. I love RPGs, FPS, fighting games, sports games, and everything in between but I understand that they're not for everyone. I try to expose them to other people but I don't shove that stuff down their throats.

fair argument
a) I wouldn't say there is a 'correct way' but the smash players I'm thinking of are elitist dicks. noone likes elitist dicks no matter what they game. I don't mind playing on final destination heck I don't even mind playing with zero items, but when it's the only way you'll play against me and you call me out for playing other wise then you become loathed. These are the people I refer to as 'tourney'. There are lots of guys out there tournament level who are decent guys who you can play with or without.

b) the maddenites are similar. It's bad enough I can't understand your obsession with a single game that you re-buy every year just for the roster updates. You're almost as bad as the GT guys. I had a friend who went 200 laps in a minivan for that game. On top of that the offensive part of the maddenites I know tend to be hypocritically dickish towards other games and those who play them. It grinds my gear to hear you talkin about how great madden is this year when it's the same bloody game.

that said what I feel is just what I feel. I got lots of friends who are maddenites. some of them made fun of my gamecube being the 'mario machine'. they're still my boys even if their taste in gaming blows. I get annoyed when I talk to someone about smash and we can never talk about my fan throwing skills because they consider themselves above items but personally it's not my style to try to change these guys. Either they get it or they don't. Sure RE4 and Metroid Prime got a friend of mine to pick up a cube but that can't be everyone and I'm not trying to make it so.

most maddenites dont tend to be "gamers". theyre basicaly gaming specialists. they buy one type of game all the time and play the hell out of it and thats all they know. i grew up with alot of maddenites when sports games began to get more realistic it got worse with each year. i think sports games are a big reason why gaming suddenly wasnt considered kiddie or childish.
