GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Just got denied of using reward certificates for $5 and $15 when buying Xbox credit and Nintendo credit. Is this new???
You'll need to specify if you were denied by the register or just the associate...

Edit: I see you edited... The rewards are tied to your account so I'm guessing he/she needs to enter your info in

Is there something wrong with the website trade values? How come the "Saved Trades" sections give one value, and then when you click a specific game, the cost is different. Also, the value doesn't match the app.

Returning 2k20 already? Are y’all not likin it?
The gameplay between the lines (except the double-team bug) is improved with more animations...plus the ball feels more organic (less tied on a string). Also, you get the updated rosters, courts and new classic teams.

But otherwise overall not much improvement as a total package unless you love the MyPlayer, MyTeam and Online features.

I have 2k18 and I think I'll stick with that. $59.99 TIV too good to pass up (especially when you consider the 20% bump for trading in towards the game)...ends up being a $6 rental for the weekend.

Anyone else still waiting for $5 figures from 8/25 to ship?
Got an email today saying they cancelled my order due to lack of inventory. Order still shows as in progress online though, and my trade credit has not been returned. I see myself having to call them to get this resolved >_>

So I finally decided to use the new Gamestop website since they lowered Atari Flashback Classics on Switch to $19.97 new (and only 4 stores within 100 miles of me had it), and I was told to add about $30 more in items to get free shipping.  So I add well over $30 more of merchandise and I still got charged for shipping.  So I guess free shipping on Gamestop is a myth, or just an outright lie?

I'm sure my Atari Switch game will be "Gamestop-new" too.  Hopefully it will at least come with the box.  Man, fuck Gamestop.

it's free "shipping" but apparently there's a $5 handling fee now if you get it....

Still waiting.. the website finally shows my order. Two items say processing, one says checking inventory. I sent a message to customer support a week ago and they never replied. Anybody call in? Thats the next step for me.

Yeah, I guess I was charged the $5 "handling" which is more than most companies charge for shipping. I guess that's why Gamestop changed their base shipping and handling charge to $10 ($5 shipping and $5 handling). Its stupid and only going to encourage fewer sales, not more.

It's ridiculous. $28 to pre-order a single amiibo online is criminal.

Finally received 4 emails from gamestop. One overall apology cancellation and an email for each seperate item. Its situations like these that make it easier to receive trade boosts, cancel then purchase elsewhere.

So I took a gamble during the Labor Day BOGO sale (while CAG 16 still worked) on two high priced PS2 games... and wow, I should have listened to you guys and passed. I picked up .Hack 4 and Haunting Ground. Haunting Ground has a slash on the face of the disc that runs through the data side (you can see through the disc) and .Hack 4 was a demo disc.

Welp, time to see how difficult it is to return these but worst case, I'll just ask my credit card company to step in. Not like it matters if I get banned, barely shop there any more anyway.
Alright so just an update on this- I was able to return the games but it was honestly kind of uncomfortable experience and I honestly think an innocent employee might get in trouble for this.

I got a nice, early 20s woman who was super chill and was ok with the return. She tried for 4-5 minutes but couldn't figure out how to do it. So she asks her mgr for help... the mgr was a lady in her late 20s, not as chill. Got a bit of an attitude from her (Why are you returning them? Do they work? Inspected the Haunting Ground disc for a good second and gave me a 'ok, whatever' look) but she processed the return. But before she did, on her own register, she asked the other woman for her employee number when I left the store and checked my receipt, it was the other employees name on the receipt.

Really hope the younger chill woman doesn't get thrown under the bus for something.

Make sure to give her a great survey and mention how rude the SL was.

Or call Customer Service and tell them about your in-store experience and stress how great the younger employee was but how poor the customer service was from the SL and she made your experience terrible.

There, now go burn it down.

Aw shit, didn't even think about the review. Pretty sure the receipt is still in my car, gonna grab it and do that- good point.

Online returns are usually done by the SL in my experience; it's not something they train everyone for. Depending on the store culture/how organized and well-trained they are, usually it's one of

-Ask for the return, employee knows what's up and quickly swaps with their supervisor who does it right off

-Ask for the return, person there goes and grabs a big fuckoff binder of policies that their SL set up beforehand that walks them through it

-Ask for the return, employee struggles with it (or, very rarely, tries to bullshit that they don't take them) until their senior comes in and either trains them or takes it off their hands entirely.

You got the games from 'em, the lady wasn't trained for it but tried her best, neither of you have anything to feel bad about. If lady gets lip that's just a shitty manager, but I wouldn't worry about someone inspecting the disk down the line and phoning their store specifically to demand that specific associate get punished for processing a legitimate return. If they paid that much attention, they wouldn't have accepted that brutalized disk in the first place :V

I also got the flurry of cancellation emails this evening. 2 different captain marvel figures, Ronan, and the kratos figure others have mentioned. Really annoyed, especially that it's coming 2 weeks later.

Oh ok I thought people were returning it because of the casino drama. I did like the demo gameplay but didn’t like how my sharpshooter’s open shots weren’t going in. This was a 99 OVR player btw

I got A LOT of figures in several orders that I bought using a variety of purchasing methods (credit, paypal, debit/venmo), many of which are now partially cancelled. Should I bother verifying that I got charged the right amounts? Surely GameStop's website hasn't broken down so hard that it's committing fraud.

Not sure how that was uncomfortable. That's typically how online returns are there. I tell them I changed my mind or it doesnt work (depending on which is true) and would like a refund. I then get said refund. Sometimes they need help or a binder to figure it out. Returns dont kill individual employees necessarily. They just reduce store income.

How would an employee get in trouble?

The uncomfortable party was the way the manager acted and seemed like she didn't want to do the return. And the only reason I think the chill employee might get in trouble is because the manager used the chill employee's ID to log into and do the return. Don't get why she didnt' use her own ID for the return.

Of course this happens exactly one day after I ordered my PS3 on gamestop.com.

I'm honestly surprised to see that the cheapest PS3 system is still more than $70 at Gamestop.

Also, there's lawaway at Gamestop now according to the weekly ad. Maybe I'll finally be able to get a PS4 and/or an Xbox One.

I’ve been saving them for a long time. Planned to use them for $100 off a Switch Lite
I was like you, saving up points to take $90 off of a PS4. Then I saw how almost everyone's accounts were getting hacked and I cashed those points in on gift cards (Amazon, AMC, Taco Bell). The easiest way to cash out points is when they have the try a game for 48 hours and trade it back in for $59.99 promo.

I'd definitely report the manager for using someone else's ID. That kind of thing can get people fired or trash their numbers and there's no reason a manager should be doing that other than some kind of performance fraud.

Theres a lot of things employees dont want to do. Im just persistent. You're not doing anything wrong. Dont let them make you feel like you are.

Maybe it's because I call before noon, but I usually get through to customer service right away. The only downside is the rep is usually clueless and I'll have to spend 20 minutes explaining my problem, and why their made-up explanation is wrong.

Might be YMMV, but I found this listing on their website and placed an online order for in-store pickup for $40.49. Only after I completed the order did I get suspicious enough to check the customer reviews to see if it was truly a Pro controller, and pretty much all of the comments were describing a third party controller like the Power A enhanced wireless controllers even though all of the imagery shows black or Smash pro controllers. However, when I got to the store to pick up the controller, it was indeed a legitimate Nintendo brand Pro controller.

Thought I'd mention it in case it's more than just a lucky break for me.

This worked out great for me, found a 20GB backward compatible PS3 at local store. Note that the POS did not take $20 off, needed an override for that. Firmware on the system is 2.42, crazy. Used a bunch of reward certs, so only ended up paying about $10.

This was in my email, does this mean you have to buy all 3 games or you get a $10 reward for each? I don't see anything on the website about this either.

I will always question why people acquire so many games and how they find the time to play them.
For me, it's not about trying to play all of them. It's about having options. I like to acquire games I'm interested in at the best price so that if any time in my life I want to play that game it is readily available. Plus its like having your own arcade in your home. Some are just collectors plain and simple.

I spent over $400+ of my trade credit on the 3 for $25 ($20 for elite) sale right now. I got $900 worth of games for about $400.
Did you do this in store or online? I cant get the 3 for 25 to show up in cart. It is only showing my pro discount.
