Current Trade in Promos:

GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Was anything particularly rare on 360?
Depends on what you define as "rare"

For me, anything that isn't on the Backward Compatible on Series X I have to track down and that goes double if it doesn't have a digital copy on the marketplace.

And no re-release or remaster

Deadly Premonition (yeah I know it's on Switch......)

Persona 5 Arena (digital copy and on Xbox one)

Persona 5 Arena UltiMax

Beautiful Katamari (digital copy exists)

Muchi Muchi Pork & Sweets

Splatterhouse

Raiden Fighters Aces

Those are the games I want to track down disc copies for I can think of as well as a Gears 3 Xbox 360 consoles and Gears 3 Legendary Edition. I'll have to find a list of xbox 360 games to see what isn't getting re-released or has no digital copy.

Culdcept saga

I hope 360 games aren't all sent to the abyss that is the GameStop warehouse. Not yet at least. Although it almost doesn't matter with how bad GameStop's inventory tracking is right now.

I would highly advise against ordering 360 games from GS, regardless of how good the "deal" is, especially if most of them are coming from the warehouse. You were already playing roulette with ship from store orders with 360 games, but they intentionally fuck them up even worse in the warehouse similar to what Gamefly does with their discs. You have a far, far, far greater chance of wasting time and effort driving to a store to return them compared to getting a 360 game in even acceptable condition.
Yeah a lot of my 99 cent 360 games from the gift card fiasco look like they were scraped on a sidewalk

Just kick the points toward a guaranteed to love title, then trade the games in a little later at a different store. You get full credit back and points as well!
What does "love title" mean? Trading the games at the store can get full credit back? I am sorry that I cannot understand that,

Can you pre-order Doom 3 VR in-store?

$5.99 seems a bit much for just regular shipping.
I was going to order it online too....but 6 bucks for the cheapest shipping and no pick up at local store options is whack.

Pre ordered it in store today, along with Returnal and Resident Evil 8 ;p

Many of the last-last gen games that I saw from last year's big restock were damaged games (actually damaged, not just butchered by the warehouse's buffing machines) that they decided to just go-ahead and sell anyway. PS3 games were the worst/most commonly damaged. They even have the "damaged/return to warehouse" sticker still on them, albeit covered over. For 360 games, I understand that they ship these games to the warehouse to be "refurbished", but they don't (usually) refurbish blu-ray games so they're literally getting them in as damages at warehouses and then just putting them up for sale on-line.

I really wish I had pulled the trigger when they were doing those constant buy 5 pre-owned get 50% sales a couple months back...I have a whole cart ready to go now.

I don't follow Gamestop sales that much, is there any expectation here that they'll ever run that deal again?

Hopefully they do, but I'm willing to bet that they were running that promo to liquidate their pre-owned games in preparation for the new gen. I noticed that they nuked trade values for a lot of games that were eligible for that deal.

GL to anyone who ordered a bunch of HG/SS/Platinum from the recent restock! I used to buy these a lot but I'd say 50%+ winds up being fake. I suppose that since the prices have spiked even more now it's probably worth the risk.

Got cart only copies of SMTIV and FFIV in today along with complete copies of Pikmin 2 Wii and Bloodstained curse of the moon switch, which was a steal at $40 considering it goes on eBay for $100+, glad to add it to the collection without having to pay the eBay price

They will- it’s a fairly common promo sale

I had a rough time getting a genuine SoulSilver a couple years back. Got a real one on the 4th try, so hope those who purchased have better luck.

Guess I'm out of touch. I thought pre-ordering a game online meant you got it on release date. I preordered Hades on Switch that came out today and received an email from GameStop saying it was delayed and had not shipped yet. Chat support gave me 2,000 points and then I checked my email and they had shipped it in the meantime. Oh well. Doesn't look like they are carrying it in stores?

I don't think Gamestop ever ships out before release date. If you want it on release, go with Amazon or Best Buy.

Yeah, I find Platinum has even more fakes. Those are harder to tell if they are real than HG/SS. Though I didn't seen any Platinums in stock this time around, so maybe they didn't restock them. If a GS employee can't tell the difference between a real and fake HG/SS, then they really deserve a .

They all look good to me. There are less fakes of black/white than HG/SS/PL and it's easy to tell by putting them under the light to see the red. The easiest way to tell for Platinum is to look at the "o" in Nintendo on the back. If it's an oval you are good, if it's more circular you are boned. There are other ways to tell too but it goes into too much detail to explain. HG/SS are usually obvious since the fakes are super obvious the label colors.

Mediocre luck on the last shipment of 50% off 3DS stock from last week, but did luck out on FFIV for DS complete. Happy I found SFIV as part of the 4/$20 this week. Still waiting on Advance Wars Dual Strike... one of the few DS games I actually beat many years ago. That Pokemon yellow looks pretty fake to me... white E?

Easier way to tell if silver and gold are fake is trying to get the coin case for the casino stuff. Or if you have the pokewalker though that's less likely.

According to grandpa google pokemon yellow has 3 variants due to its age. Originally there was no esrb when pokemon came out. So because yellow was in print for so many years it has the no esrb, white esrb and black esrb. There may be 2 more variants according to comments about holographic and non holographic versions of games that got gbc boxes.

The black carts are all real.

For Platinum, you have to check the arrow to see if is flush with the cartridge (if the arrow looks like your other real carts then you're good). If the arrow is more of an indent, then it's fake.

You can also check the top of the cart to see if it has a rectangle in the center (this would also be on your other real carts so you can verify with them). If it doesn't, then it's fake.

Matching CPUE on the front and back of the cart doesn't work anymore, as I've seen fake carts where they match.

Certain titles can be brought back for a full "refund" (trade credit) within 48 hours even if opened.
What are those titles? I never know about that!! I really want to kill some points because I have too much points now....

Thank you so much!!

Splatterhouse is already over its original MSRP. Yeah like the quote says you would want to concentrate on games that are not backwards compatible since most likely those are not on the digital 360 store either. Also the top CE of the era have skyrocketed in value.

Got my replacement Persona Q in today from their return department...aaaand this one doesn't work either. Dammit. I contacted Atlus who said they'll send me a code if I give them a picture of the destroyed cartridge. I think I'll just go return it to GameStop.

I received 3 of the games just right now.

I thought Bluray disc was scratch proof and since it was a niche game it would come complete but it came in a yellow sleeve and the disc is very scratched. Didn't test it yet but I skeptical that it actually works. Pokemon Platinum came in a yellow sleeve and in bad condition but it starts up so I took a picture because I was surprised. Pokemon Art Academy came in a black case but without cover or manual. The cart look good on that one I guess because it's newer.

That black case is more than likely the generic ones they occasionally have. 3ds cases are white in my experience. There probably are a few exceptions to that though.

Looks like somebody's dog got to the Pokemon Platinum. Never understood how people let their animals or kids destroy their stuff.

Same with the Blu-Ray disc. Those are a lot more difficult to scratch. Did the people who previously owned it use it as a frisbee or coaster?

I mean is this not why we have game cases?

Not Gamestop's fault, there is a physical problem with those cartridges. I actually had this problem in April 2019 before the launch of PQ2 but didn't think to contact Atlus b/c it was a 5-year old game and I figured they wouldn't do anything so I had to buy the $20 digital copy out of my own pocket.

Damn, you ain't kidding about Slatterhouse! I loved that game and I thought the critical reception was poor and thought it was easy and cheap to track down again....nope!!

It kinda is their fault for selling a well known defective game that doesn't work for most copies. But yeah atlus really screwed the pooch with that one. I bought it digital myself recently because I wanted to skip the middleman. It is really cool that atlus still gives the digital codes though.

Never knew that about Persona Q. That is a shame. I checked my launch copy from the CE and it worked and started the game but I would probably play digital whenever I end up playing it just because I wouldn't want my game to crash halfway or something

What happened to that seal of quality, Nintendo? 🤔
