The General 360 Owners/Buyers FAQ Thread (Updated 1/15/10)
Either way when you receive the console back from MS Mexican repair facility just ebay it or put it on craigslist asap to unload it quick. Go pick up an arcade unit and double check the lot# and power rating (12.1 amps) to make sure that you get a Jasper and get a warranty if available.
Jeez, really? So you think it's just going to crap out on me again? They must not have a very good repair record, huh?

I don't think I'd feel very good about unloading it on someone else, though... And I suppose I wouldn't get more than $100 for it. That still leaves another $100 before I can buy an Arcade unit.
Hello everybody,

I have a question for all of you and am looking for an answer. I currently have an 360 premium(purchased just after release) and have already had it replaced once due to RROD. I have a bunch of gift cards and was wanting another 360 for my basement and want it to be a 360 elite. Should I get it now(dont really "NEED" it, just want it), or should I wait until after E3 to see if some kind of announcement is made involving some kind of new design or feature(keeping fingers crossed for built in Wi-Fi adapter). I am just curious as to what you all think. Any response would be greatly appreciated.
Your Gift Cards are for where?

Ok, I noticed this week that EB Games (Canada) has "You're in the Movies" bundled with the camera for $50...

The only other games I know that use the camera are;

Uno
Burnout Paradise

Is it worth it to get it? Are there other games that support it? I can imagine
the novelty of being "In the Movies" would wear off pretty quick.

I know Rainbow Six Vegas uses it to map your face onto your character, and the new Viva Pinata game uses it for in-game characters sorta like Eye Of Judgement (take a picture of a card, get it in the game).

Other than that, it's a fully functional USB webcam. I'd wait till it's cheaper though - you can pick up just the camera pretty cheap these days.

There's also that horrid Totemball game and you can scan cards into Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise with the vision camera. Other than that, you can experience all there is to You're In The Movies in about 20 minutes.
So probably not worth the 50 bucks.

I got mine for 10$ on clearance :D. Got extras with it too like Uno, so it was a great deal. Anyway, I'd definitely say its not worth more than 15-20$. It's a pretty good webcam and such, and you can use it with Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Since I bought it though I really never use it aside from getting the odd achievement. The only reason I bought it for 10$ is cause it came with a 1 month XBL code and Uno (and a headset yet?) so it was an auto buy XD.
BTW I heard that you can get your own avatar or picture as your Xbox live gamertag icon there? Not sure how or if its true though...

Ive done many searches, but not sure if any are the setup im trying to do. I have a dell pc connected via an internal wireless adapter card and high gain antenna to network A with a router connected to the internet that is inaccessable to me. The connection isnt great but it works for internet use. I cannot use a wireless adapter for the 360 to connect to the same network because of the distance from me unless someone can tell me how otherwise, but really dont have anymore money to spend. Then I have a belkin router near my pc that is stitting there doing nothing was for my personal network B before I moved. I have a cross over cable that is long enough to reach from my computer to the 360. First can someone give me a step by step instruction for newbie to share the conneciton on my pc to the 360 the easiest and simplest and cheapest way. Second can somone tell me the best way given my equipment and possibly using that router that is just sitting there.
$17.95 for the camera @ www.gamedealdaily.com today.
It's well worth it at that price. Uno's really fun, and Spyglass Board Games uses the camera if you dig chess and checkers like I do (400 points). Just like what JJ said about Rainbow Six, you can scan your face for use on in game characters in Tiger Woods 09 and the very cheap and fun World Series of Poker series. Oh, and you can do a 30 second post match victory celebration when you win at Bomberman Live. ;)

There's also the comedic value of sending funny pictures to your friends, using a personalized Gamerpic as the last guy said, and you can do video chat on the dashboard.

One more thing- if you need to re-up for Live anytime soon, you can do what I did- but the bundle for $80 that comes with 13 months of Live, the camera, Uno, Robotron 2084, and an extra headset.

Ok, my younger brother really want L4D but my parents hate spending $60 on a game i found it for $40 on play asia, Will the game be any different as far as text and the characters voices and online servers, as long as the cover art is the only difference we're in good shape. Also, the two games being from different regions wont have to same upc, since his birthday is monday and we ordered it today, i was going to buy it at gamestop sealed and then return the one from play asia when it arrives. Thanks in advance guys, hope everything works out for him.

sup fellas

took the plunge and got me a re5 bundle. impressed by the xbox so far....
anway, i have a question....
1)Is it okay to leave the ac adapter plugged into the outlet but not connected to the console? I'm worried because of the light on the ac adapter. Will that light burn out?
2)is it okay to move the console around with a disc in the tray when the console is off?

much obliged

1.) It's fine. I'd say even leave it all plugged in, but if you need to take part of it out, it'll still be fine (I've had mine plugged in, always on, since I got it).

2.) I have moved my 360 with discs in it before, but as Bioshocked said, just take the few extra seconds to remove the disc from the tray, just so you don't have any problems (I never have, but I've only moved it from room to room, or horizontal to vertical with a disc in).
You said yourself they are different regions and different UPCs, so no, you can't return it.
Thanks for clarifying, now for the actual game and case?

Are you talking about this version?

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-dw-77-3-49-en-15-left+4+dead-70-2zsg.html

I don't see any on there for $40 so I'll assume the price went up since yesterday. Anyway, if you click on the box, it says "English and Chinese Texts (English voices)". Looks like that answers most of your questions. As for servers, someone else will have to answer that, but I assume if you have a US Xbox Live account, you'll be connecting to the US servers no matter what region the game itself is from.

I leave mine plugged in.

I have moved it with a disc inside but I've heard alot of horror stories about scratched discs and what not.

You really should worry more about ventilation for the system.

Alright i think everything is well, i read that same page a bit earlier so it clarified it for me, thanks guys the only difference is cover art and ill print out the us cover art so everything is the same
I've had my 360 plugged in since 2005 without issue.

If the console is off, I don't see how moving it with a disc would hurt anything.
The disk does not snap into anything on the tray. Moving the system with a disk in could cause the disk to fall out of place and cause problems the next time you turn on the system. It is bad enough that the 360 has been known to cause scratch rings on disks...why play with fire just to bitch about Microsoft later?
You should always, always, always eject any discs from a system before moving it.
Hell, that even includes CD and DVD players.

Most games are letterboxed. A VERY few will actually do HD in a 4:3 (or whatever) resolution. A few more will be distorted except at 640x480. But most get letterboxed.

Also note that it's not really 1920x1200 or whatever. 360 games are rendered at 1280x720 or below, and run through the system's internal scaler to match the resolution you select in the system menu.

no

The 360's wireless protocol is proprietary. This is why certain 3rd party controllers are wired on 360 and wireless on PS3. The PS3 uses the open standard Bluetooth.

Theres a company from hongkong that has 794 ebay feedback (mostly positive) thats selling 360 arcade sticks for around $135 shipped, just curious if anyone has used one, seen a review somewhere or just have any info on the quality of the sticks?

Take a peek at my list here at: http://club.ign.com/b/list/custom?&lid=100018&owner=Adon_Idom&mode=vown

Im mainly looking to rent Xbox 360 games. so if there's any 360 games you think i should rent. tell me.

The 3 that i have on my Game Q right now are Smackdown VS RAW 2009, Fallout 3, Legends of Wrestlemania & Dead Space. *in that order*

Here's my gamer profile btw: http://profile.mygamercard.net/Allan Caesar
And my 360's Blog: http://360voice.gamerdna.com/blog.asp?tag=Allan Caesar

Games im tempted to rent are:

Blue Dragon
Call of Duty 4
Enchanted Arms
King Kong (Achievements wise)
TMNT *Not only because of the achievements being super easy, but being an original TMNT fan*

Definitely COD4 and I've heard King Kong is actually a pretty good game.
HAWX
Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 or 2 (go with 2 since it seems some CAGs still play it)
Halo Wars (if you can stand the idea of an RTS on a console)
Oblivion (if you have not played it, I didn't see it on your list).
Ninja Gaiden II or better yet Ninja Gaiden Black for XBOX if they have it.

Fallout 3 is 2nd on my Gamefly list currently for rent.

I own NHL 09.

Smackdown VS RAW 2009 is my number 1 pick for rent.

I owned RSV2, i didnt like it.

Halo Wars im not interested in at all.

Call of Duty 4 im so-so on it, but im tired of playing shooters... every shooter is the same to me -_-

I noticed my kit doesn't really charge anymore, and I'm wondering if the calibration is off since I turn my 360 off when charging sometimes. When i plug the controller in it goes straight to green, though if I take it off it turns off immediatly. So in other words I need it plugged in to even turn it on. Is there anyway I can some how charge it fully and get it recalibrated?

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. I haven't been playing my 360 much (probably 3 weeks to a month now) and turned it on tonight, only to have both my battery packs (different controllers) do this.
