The General eBay Rant Thread

So I've been slowly selling these - http://www.ebay.com/itm/271329359718 - and no problems until today. (I also combined/refunded the difference in shipping before I got this message from the guy)

Why are you shipping the item? You can just tell me the codes rather than wasting the time and fees of shipping. The name of the item is "Care Package Code" not "Monster Cardboard Box with Code on it".
So I only replied with

While I agree with your sentiment, I am following Ebay's policies.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/downloadable.html
and tossed him into my blocked bidders list. I mean I get his point, but I'm only CYA'ing for myself. The guy didn't put a note with his payment about wanting the codes via email, and I had already dropped them into the blue box so it's not like I could go get them now anyways. I thought I got it right, but should I change something in my ad in anyone's opinion?

Wow, nevermind - the A-hole must have reported it because Ebay just sent me a "copyright violation" message that because I offered to email the code along with mailing it. What a jerk.

So I sell replacement cases and instruction manuals for DS games on eBay. My items are clearly listed in the cases category, my title clearly states they are the case and instruction manual FOR xxxxx game. The item description clearly states the auction is for replacement cases and instructions, and my photos clearly show no game in the picture. Most transactions go fine but I have a few right now that just auto-negatived me stating I was trying to scam them and rip them off. This crap infuriates me to no end. EBay does nothing for me in regards to the negative feedback and I'm the one that ends up screwed because people are to dumb to read and understand what they are buying. Best line in the last message I got was: " Who would buy empty cases and instructions with no games? You are a scamming idiot.".... Yep, I'm the idiot.

TLDR: EBay is full of morons.

I've actually seen a few listings where along with the picture of the case and manual, they include a card stock note saying no game is included.  If they can't even see the picture and know that the game isn't included, then they are even more idiotic than I thought.

Not saying that will prevent it from happening again, but its a nice idea if you want to consider it for your upcoming auctions.

Is there a separate category for replacement cases and stuff? I see them in the general Video Games one all the time but is there somewhere more appropriate they should be?

So..I got this letter in which tells me of a class action lawsuit against eBay for uneccessary charges on the mobile app. Is this really a thing?

You can call eBay. Speak to the resolution dept.

If you can prove (and you should) that you clearly listed everything clearly...you should be able to get the neg removed.

I agree with the poster above about selling to collectors. One time I had a Xenoblade Chronicles up back when they were really rare and a guy asked me to examine it under a microscope to see if it had any smudges or sun spots and to smell it to see if it had any odd odors. I just put him on my block list immediately. I wasn't going to deal with that whole song and dance. Get a negative feedback because an eye lash was on the game when it arrived or something. I have no problem with collectors, but that is pure insanity and I think could be legally filed under a mental illness when it is that over the top.

Anyway, I sold a DLC card on eBay that came with one of my Xbox One day one editions. I know selling DLC on ebay is risky. Whatever. I take the risk, it is my choice. I bought it and mailed it. The person then filed a case against me saying item not as described and said they just received some card and not the game. I responded and told them my listing clearly states no game included. Bold and underlined. It took this person 3 days to respond to me and to my surprise they accepted responsibility for the mistake and said they should have read the listing clearly.

The only problem: they didn't close the case. It's still sitting there and it has been sitting there for 5 days now. They have like a 250 feedback, so I doubt they are scammers. I just hope they close the damn case, because I think my funds are being held.

I have a customer who bought a Blu-ray, but needed it shipped to a different address. I said I could only do it to the PayPal invoice address and they went in and changed it. However, the invoice is still showing the old address. How do I refresh it?

Question- I went to my local Meijer Supermarket to ship a couple games via USPS and wanted to do first class shipping. I asked about tracking and they said it was $3. I thought it was 99 cents. Also he told me priority doesn't include tracking.... is he right?

No.

Just buy a printer and print online. Ship like 20-30 things and you'll recoup the printer/ink/paper costs in year.

It doesn't refresh. You have to refund and have them resubmit payment / repurchase the item.

Anyone here know what happens if a buyer opens a case, you respond to it, and the buyer goes AWOL and never goes back to the case to respond back?

PayPal or eBay?

Both will time out and be found in your favor if the buyer hasn't escalated it to a dispute AND they fail to do so in a set period of time. I believe for eBay INR cases it is 30 days. PayPal INR might be 30 as well. I think there is a smaller window in SNAD cases.

I have had a number of international INR cases time out. I figured the buyer was just too lazy to do anything with the dispute after they ended up receiving the item.

ebay.

I mentioned above that I sold a DLC card from one of my Xbox One Day One titles, and the buyer opened a case saying they thought they were getting the game and didn't receive the game. I responded and told them my listing clearly stated it was just for the voucher and I even made it bold and underlined in the listing. They responded back and apologized and took responsibility for not reading the listing thoroughly, but they never closed the  case. This was almost a week ago.

They might be one of those ebayers who only logs in once a month, but currently the funds are being withheld until something happens.

Yeah that stinks. I almost never get hit with SNAD cases so I don't know how long they sit before timing out (they will eventually time out though).

Did you ship the item?

Have you responded to the dispute at all?

If you responded return for refund they have 14 days to submit tracking and show delivery.

I don't think you'll have any luck getting a CSR to close the case in your favor while it's open unless he blatantly takes responsibility AND I wouldn't risk escalating the case as eBay may for whatever reason find in the buyer's favor or decide "no fault" and there have been rumors circulating on the seller boards that even if you're not held responsible, if eBay decides "no fault" and refunds out of their pocket they still hold the case against the seller.

Yeah, I shipped the item, but didn't use tracking because with a small voucher card I only need a little envelope to put it in and USPS told me that to get tracking on something that small, I need Priority Mail. I asked for the total and it came to like $4.50, which is ridiculous, because I sold the voucher for $15 and did free shipping, so I'd basically have to eat 1/3 of my earnings on shipping alone.

I responded to the dispute and said my listing clearly states that there is no game included. I made it bold and underlined. They didn't respond for about 3 or 4 days. Then finally they responded(via ebay message and not the case) and said they were sorry and it is their fault for not reading the listing and they'll just keep the voucher.

I responded back and told them I appreciate them understanding, but can you close the case so I can get my funds? Haven't heard back from them and that was almost a week ago.

Well the good news is the fact that you didn't use tracking won't come into play. The buyer already stated they received the item. If it gets escalated eBay will most likely decide "return for refund" where the buyer will have to ship the code back AND show proof of delivery (i.e. purchase tracking) to win the dispute.

You can always try to see if CSR will just close the dispute but my experience is that they won't for anything that isn't black and white (i.e. an INR dispute where you can show delivery).

Unless he said something very clear stating that he made a mistake and would be closing the dispute, but never did, I don't think they'll close it for you and you'll just have to wait for him to do it or for the dispute to time out

I notice now that in order details, it lists the buyer's phone number. I was thinking about calling, because for all I know this could be some 60 year old guy who barely uses a computer buying this for his grandson. I know ebay tells you to do your best to keep in contact with the buyer, but I'm not sure if calling and asking them to close it is pushing the boundaries and invading privacy.

I also have another case open too. I mailed out another voucher from another game(without tracking for the same reason) and the person claims they never got it. If they had low feedback, I'd figure they were using the code, and trying to scam me, which happens. But they have like 550 positives, so I doubt it. They didn't ask for a refund though, they asked for a tracking number. So I had to bum my friend's voucher off him and send it via Priority Mail with tracking, just to make sure they got it so they don't give me a negative. It arrived 3 days ago, and they haven't responded to the case either. I sent them a message asking if they were satisfied and got no response.

Can I refund via PayPal without cancelling the transaction?
I'm going to be honest... I've been in this situation a dozen or so times and I've never found a way to issue a refund without eventually haven't to cancel the transaction.

Many years ago if you gave the buyer a refund they would then get the option to resubmit payment---or at the very least you could send a new invoice for that transaction. I have not seen this option for at least the past year.

I get a lot of buyers who message me after the purchase claiming the used the wrong shipping address and I get a lot of international buyers that checkout using an address that has foreign characters and some shipping software won't accept addresses in that format (technically USPS is no longer supposed to accept packages that don't use standard english characters) so I end up having to refund and then cancel the transaction. At that point I can just create a new listing for the buyer and have them buy it again.

It is a HUGE hassle relatively speaking though. Maybe someone else has experience....

Keep in mind I only list Fixed Price, Immediate Payment Required so I guess it could be different for auction style listings.

In Paypal, all you do is click "issue refund" and the next screen allows you to change the refund amount and you can also add a note and invoice number to the refund if you want. This s of course after the transaction, but I too am using the "pay immediately" feature.

Right... I know you can issue the refund through PayPal. He is asking if you can do that and then allow the buyer to pay again under the original transaction.

Before you could issue a refund through PayPal and the item would go to the "awaiting payment" section of eBay. At that point in the drop down menu for that item the seller had the option to click "resend invoice" and likewise the buyer used to have an option called "resubmit payment" I don't believe those are there anymore or at least I can't find them.

Now when you issue the refund through PayPal the item going to the "awaiting payment" section and the only option is "Open unpaid item/cancellation request"

You can ship a 3 ounce package with tracking for 1.69 through paypals shipping.. You really should be using tracking for everything you send out to protect yourself and giving the buyer a better experience of knowing where there purchases are.

Sorry - I am in a bit of a fog since I had a bombshell dropped on me last night.

It's okay. I come off as an asshole sometimes but that is just my chemical imbalance!

I hope everything is alright.

On another note just a quick eBay store.

I sold a relatively inexpensive video game related item to a buyer in early December. I shipped it first class (domestic) with tracking. Three weeks later the buyer asks "where's my item" but I was traveling for the day and didn't want to respond via my phone.

I get home to find out he left me a negative to the effect of "I didn't receive my item... not happy... please make right". I check the tracking and it shows it was delivered three days after he made the payment.

I send him the tracking information..showing it was delivered and I ask why he waited so long to notify me that he hadn't recieved it when the order details stated the estimated delivery date was two weeks before contacted me.

Two days go by and he hasn't responded (in the meantime I contact eBay CSR and they remove the negative) and then he writes back:

I was happy when I purchased your item for my son with cancer, but now it's sad that someone will enjoy this gift at my expense. Yes it was but who accepted it? Not happy....

I mean seriously? Is this how low people go to try and score a free item?

I bought a game a few weeks ago that came with two manuals. I think it was accidental I guess. So I figure why not put it on ebay with the DLC voucher and try to get something for it to lessen the cost.

Clearly listed it as inserts and said no game was included in bold. They got it and wanted a refund saying they thought it was the game and I should have been clearer in my listing and they were just going to mail it back. I bring this up, because they snuck in a "I bought this for my mentally disabled son, and..."

I can't prove it, but they clearly didn't read and threw in some pity story to try to make me take the item back when they saw my listing said no refunds and tells the buyer to read the listing carefully before bidding.

^ I get a lot of "my son is mentally challenged and we spend all our money on his medical blah blah blah... he is really interested in your (extremely rare and valuable item) but we only have (insultingly low offer... like 20% of asking price) could you please find it in your heart to let the item go for that price"

Like it makes me sick sometimes.

Same here, but it doesn't surprise me, because that is how people are today. No one wants to work for anything anymore, everyone wants to make money or get valuable things the easiest way possible. The concept of working hard and buying things the old fashioned way just doesn't seem to cut it for the laziness of people in this day and age anymore, I guess.

I also love when I get the "Why is this so expensive?" questions on rare items I'm selling or  if I have a rare game up for $200, I get the "give you $100 shipped for it right now. deal?" messages.

This is a first. I got a "question" on one of my items saying "Want to trade this?" - Yeah man, I want to trade it for the amount of money I'm asking for it.

I just realized the other day that the only negative I have ever received was randomly removed, and I never even asked for it to be removed. It was over a year ago when I was selling a DLC voucher on there. My friend got banned for messaging his DLCs when he sold them, so I don't even want to risk it, because they blacklist basically everything even related to you from re-joining. So I always mail them out.

A guy bought a DLC from me and and several hours later I got a message from him "HELLO?????? WHERE'S MY DLC?????" I was like, I mailed it out this afternoon, you'll get it in a few days. He said(in all caps) "THIS IS RIDICULOUS, I'M NOT WAITING A FEW DAYS, JUST GIVE IT NOW VIA EBAY MESSAGE!!!!!"

I told him I didn't want to get in trouble, so I'm not going to do that, ebay has access to all messages for security purposes. Then he gave me a negative. It said something like "Worst ebay experience EVER! Shady! Stay away!"

This guy had like 400 positives, so he wasn't a scammer. Also, he never filed a case, he just gave a negative. I went through his feedback history and he gave a lot of people negatives over really ticky tack stuff. He gave someone a negative, because his package arrived a day later than it said on ebay's arrival date estimate.

Anyway, I noticed the other day the negative is gone. I wonder if this guy got banned or something for being an ass. Don't remember his username.

Yeah I think that's what happened. When eBay bans a buyer/seller their account goes NARU (No longer A Registered User).

I've read they only ban as a last resort because they want to be able to inflate the "registered users" stats for the share holders. That is why if you get banned from selling they don't ban your account... they just tell you that you are no longer welcome to sell but you can still buy on the site.

You're probably fucked. I assume you shipped it First Class? If it was within the lower 48 it should have arrived last week. It would be odd for it to make it all the way through the system without getting scanned at any point. You should go talk to someone at the PO where you dropped it off.
Just a follow up. I received a letter from the claims department, and they made me sign a form, swearing that I dropped the package off for shipment and had me list the specific location. Mailed it back out to them. I really thought I was screwed, now I have a glimmer of hope that Im not out $70.

As mentioned before, just invest in some size 0 envelopes and use those to ship first class. I dont know if some postal service workers are trying to up sell by misinforming or what, but I remember getting an angry message from a buyer once that I was illegally taking advantage of the USPS, because I was shipping items other than letters using first class. I didnt even respond, but your story reminded me of that.

So, I have been buying Sunuku Mailers Size 0 and 2 bubble mailers on eBay for a while now. They are roomy and strong, though the glue is weak. Still, for $15 combined for 25 size 0 and 15 size 2, it's a minor nitpick.

Well, I had a bunch of eBay listings end Friday and I ran out of envelopes. Because of my work schedule that day, the only place I could go was Staples to get more. Got 2 12-packs of size 0 and 1 12-pack of size 2. Freaking $35. Geez.

Try a dollar store ( Dollar General or Dollar Tree) next time.. they usually have two packs for $1 in various bubble mailer sizes..

I use mailersusa.com

I stumbled across them by chance. I had been using strictly kraft mailers but I was looking for something cheaper and a tiny bit lighter. I got a shipment from Best Buy in poly bubble mailers (not poly bags...) and noticed on the inside it was branded with a company name and 1-800 number (I think the name was valuemailers).

I called the 1-800 and they referred me to their wholesale company which happened to by mailersusa. The prices have gone up each year for the past 1-2 years due to the cost of UPS/FedEx going up as well but you should be able to get a 100 of the #1 or #2 in yellow kraft of white poly bubble for about $.25 or less depending on the promotion and size.

You can do better with eBay and some other sites if you sit and wait but I like having mailers when I need them and mailersusa has really good customer service too.

Hope that helps someone

I use valuemailers on amazon.com.. I pay about $30 shipped for 250 for 0#.

I buy cardboard box type mailers for steelbooks and jewel cases from uline.com.

#0 is too small for anything I'd want to ship. It is almost form fitting to game cases. If I was selling used games or games in which it would be acceptable for them to arrive damaged or low value DVD's I'd use #0. I like having extra material to fold over and that is why I buy #1.

[But 250 for ~ $30 is a great price]

I can also fit larger items in #1 envelopes as well and for smaller games like Vita/3DS you can essentially wrap the extra envelope space around for a second layer.

I also prefer poly bubble to kraft bubble but that is a personal preference. There are a few instances where I like kraft because because they are more rigid and hold their shape better.

I havent had issues with #0 from customers yet.. If its $50+ older game/ hard to replace game, I will ship it in a cardboard box mailers. the boxes are especially helpful for genesis complete games.

One thing I like about the Sunuku mailers are how spacious they are. Offer just as much padding as 3M mailers but I have never had a problem getting a case with a slipcover into the mailer.

Cardboard box mailers are good too.

I think my resolution for 2014 is to use less packing tape---on everything.

Problem with a buyer.

Person bough 1400 dollar item. Insured, sent, etc. It has now been at the post office for a week because the buyer won't pick it up.

I sent ebay message, personal email, and just left a voicemail. Anyone have any experience with this?

Looking at the ebay buyer protection page it says this:

Important: If you refuse delivery of an item so you won't have to return it, the item isn't covered by eBay Buyer Protection.

Looked at some ebay forums and it seems that refusing to pick up a package is the same as refusing delivery. I hope this guy picks it up, because he is being a massive pain. He is also apparently a lawyer.

This is kind of a timed thing, and I would lose probably 300 dollars if I had to resell it again. If the guy pulls a fast one I am hoping that I can keep the money and make him take it again.

Unfortunately you can't make him take it. PayPal/eBay won't let you have the item AND the money.

If he refuses the package you certainly could set the terms of the refund when the item is returned to you by USPS (Don't refund until it has been delivered back to you... not just on its way back).

You could say issue a refund of the total cost minus original s/h and whatever you deem acceptable as a restocking fee. They can still leave feedback and/or possibly open an INR. They may lose due to what you quoted but they always have other venues like opening a dispute through PayPal or filing a chargeback.

Well, I've contacted through ebay, e-mail, and left a voice mail. I was wrong when I said he was a lawyer (looked him up online and it sounded like a law firm), he actually makes gym equipment for what looks like hotels and stuff in Las Vegas.

Either way this is tiresome. I'm hoping I can get him somehow. I don't want to keep the item, I want him to keep it and I get my money. I also stated no returns.

The value has now dropped a few hundred bucks since then.

I feel like sending him a link the buyer protection policy, but then I'm afraid that will cause him to pick it up and say it isn't as described and try to screw me out of $1400. So I might just let it roll with a few more personal messages to him through eBay and take my chances with Paypal & eBay. If eBay sides with me and he does a chargeback at least that will be him against eBay.

Maybe he's really busy around the holidays and just hasn't gotten around to picking it up?

It wasn't sent to his home?
It went to what I assume is his apartment. Been about 8 days so far. No response to voicemail, email or eBay message. I'm going to send him multiple ebay messages reminding him and just one stating that is not allowed on ebay to just not pick up a package, etc.

So I'm looking to bid on this lot of comics, 15 to be exact. The seller's description list them as varying in condition. I politely ask the seller if he could list individual conditions (considering that's a huge difference in the value of older/valuable comics and he said it was only cover wear so it was a matter of just looking at the cover). This is the message I get back.

"Think of a scale. That's as individual as I'm going to get."

So tempted to not buy from him now, but I need those for my set :wall:
