The Joey Styles' Punch-Out!! Pro-Wrestling thread
"'The Sun has an interview with reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion William Regal and he critiques the wrestler who he won the title from, Santino Marella. Regal feels Marella hasn't grown in the ring as he should have by now. 'I think what he does, the entertainment aspect of it, is brilliant,' Regal said. 'I try and help him a lot because obviously his wrestling is not where it should be - but he can get there. He's been thrown in the deep end straight out of wrestling school and he does a great job at what he does. I think he's got a great future but you can only get by doing so much comedy.' Regal said CM Punk is one of the few quality opponents who can work at his pace in the ring. 'The vicious stuff I'm doing now is the way I like to wrestle, unfortunately there are not too many people - and this may sound very arrogant - who can keep up with me. Very few,' Regal said. 'I'm looking to people like C.M. Punk and people like that to step up. The only ones who can keep up with me are of that style.'"

Kind words from Regal regarding Santino and CM Punk. I also like his comments about the Intercontinental title and his hair. God bless High Definition TV, if that's the case. ;)
I think Regal's longer hair makes him look more distinguished.

You can't see me!!
Man, I figured USA HD would be everywhere. My problem is that I don't have MyTV in HD. SD Smackdown sucks.
Oh, not even close, yet. :( In my market, Time Warner just added fabulous HD channels like HGTV, Speed Network, ABC Family, Animal Planet, and Hallmark Movie Network.

I had USA HD during the olympics, and then it was removed again. :/

To top it off, I don't have MNTV in HD either.

On the bright side, when they put USA HD back in, I should have an East Coast feed so I can watch WWE at an early hour. :)

I don't know if JJSP and I share a market, but I'd be interested to know.
Let Deuce use his real name, change his shirt, and pull his hair back.. and suddenly I take him seriously.
It also helpes that he's not a greaser anymore.
Yeah?! Nice upload, sir! :D
Yeah whomever had it up before deleted their account, so I found it on dailymotion and reuploaded myself.
I think she's hurt. She was visibly limping and looked like she was crying after the match.
Yeah. The post match reactions between the two seemed out of place unless she was really injured.

You would think WWE would have learned about top rope spots with Divas already. It makes me nervous when the guys do it let alone the Divas. Isn't that how Melina got hurt in the first place?

Trish may appear, but won't wrestle.

Is it just me, or has this Edge DVD been promoted a lot less strongly than the usual WWE release? I didn't even know it was coming out until seeing a commercial in Smackdown this past Friday. It's only $20 at Best Buy this week, and Edge is my favorite, so I must get it.

I'm betting an appearance by Trish.. or by Sunny or someone.

I doubt the injury was legit. They were working on her leg during the match, which I doubt they'd do if she was really injured. I think she was just selling it well.

I hope so, but that top rope spot looked bad as soon as she flew from the turnbuckle. I was thinking MCL or ACL as soon as I saw her hit.

LoW looks excellent - the WM XV arena is in, and the Rock's wearing the Winged Eagle belt in a screen (and it looks fantastic as well). The old-school turnbuckle pads being black instead of blue is slightly annoying though.

I'm on Time Warner SoCal (Orange County) - the QAM tuner in my TV picks up MNTV in HD, but I don't think they offer USA in HD. I watched Smackdown the other night and the Troops special on NBC in HD, and they looked gorgeous.

EDIT - I just checked Time Warner's programming page, and sure enough, they do offer it. The QAM tuner shouldn't pick it up (I think), and the basic digital box brings in the audio but not the video feed. I think I'd need to pick up the HD box from Time Warner in order to access the channel.

Apparently the new additions to Time Warner HD include ESPN, ESPN2, CNN, Food Network, Disney, TLC, A&E, Discovery, TNT, TBS, Versus, Bravo, SciFi, and FX amongst others.

Ha. The crowd hates Punk and loves Jericho. I miss those crowds.

EDIT: That was an excellent match, and a PPV quality match on free TV; but between this match and the last two Cena/Jericho matches, I'm never taking the "walls of jericho" seriously ever again.

I gave up on taking any submission move seriously years ago.

This "needtobreathe" group's singer has a breathy singing voice like John Mayer. I thought it was Mayer at first.

Man, Trish's pop is going to be INSANE. The Toronto crowd's hot anyway, and to bring her out of nowhere, and in her own hometown.. it's gonna be awesome.

I'm glad I tuned in for that match.

Punk and Jericho have put on some great matches. Most importantly, making each other look like a million bucks.

"Santino gave away lumps of Michael Cole to anyone he didn't like!".. Fantastic

Roucka? The person who Santino just pointed out was the biggest Beth Phoenix fan? That wouldn't make much sense, she wouldn't want to fight Beth Phoenix if she's her biggest fan.

//edit: y helo thar trish

//double edit: what the fuck, she looks eighteen times hotter than she did before! holy god almighty
Kizarny debuts on SD next week (January 1st)!
Aw, crap. When they stopped airing the vignettes, I hoped they had dropped the gimmick.

It'd be great if Trish came back and faced Beth at WrestleMania.

The "Cuck Fena" sign was gold.

STFU!

Pathetic internet response or notification of an awe-inspiring submission hold? You make the call!

C. None of the above.

Thanks for the SD match listing, JJSP. Reading that reminds me- are they just going to ignore the fact that The Big Show and Vickie had any association? I know the Show/Taker feud is over, but they're ignoring that union just like they're ignoring the turmoil between Vickie and Edge from earlier this year. Well, except for that video package from the Slammys.

BATISTA OUT FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS:
World Wrestling Entertainment's plans for Wrestlemania were thrown out the window with word that Dave Batista, who was in the running for the Raw side of the Mania main event, has gone down to a torn hamstring.

Batista is expected to miss several months and will be undergoing surgery shortly, according to several sources within the company. The Randy Orton punt kick to the head last week was the storyline reason for Batista's disappearance from the company.

There's no word whether the company will acknowledge the legitimate reason for Batista's absence or will just put the heat on Randy Orton.

Batista's hamstring began giving him problems during the most recent European tour and has worsened since. This would be Batista's third major muscle tear, as he's had previous tears to the lat muscles in his back as and his triceps in 2006.

Word within the company is that as of now, they aren't expecting Batista back until June at the earliest, with a worse case scenario being August, so all Wrestlemania plans involving him are out the window for now. That certainly puts momentum towards Cena defending the World title against Randy Orton at the company's flagship PPV.
Parttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a horrible person for saying this, but I'm very, very, very happy we won't be getting Cena/Batista at 'Mania. Really makes me curious to see how they book the main event for the Raw brand.

Congrats go out to Frankie "Yes, I'm Still Employed" Kazarian and Traci "Who Cares If They're Fake" Brooks, as they recently got engaged.

I know I'm going to go to Hell for saying this but....

SHA LA LA LA SHA LA LA LA HEY HEY HEY GOODBYE ROIDTISTIA!

.... I'll comment on RAW tommorow after I watch it.
I'm on Time Warner SoCal (Orange County)
Markets are much smaller than I thought. :)

Need to see if my tuner will get MNTV in HD, though, thanks for the idea...
SHA LA LA LA SHA LA LA LA HEY HEY HEY GOODBYE ROIDTISTIA!
Don't you mean "Na na na naaaa.. na na na naaaa..."?

Good ol' 'roid use claims another one. This would have been REALLY interesting if it had happened a couple of weeks after Cena's injury.
Don't you mean "Na na na naaaa.. na na na naaaa..."?
You can't resist correcting people, can you?

See, I'm torn on this news. While it's nice that we'll see someone else in the Raw main event, it was also nice knowing that Cena AND Batista were going to be tied up for the forseeable future with each other.

Sort of like, they wouldn't be going for the title (assumably), but I was curious to see what people like Orton or Jericho were going to do without be faced off against the two biggest faces on the brand. Would Cena or Batista (more likely) have turned? I hoped that maybe, just maybe, it would'nt have even been for the belt, forcing them to write an actual storyline for Cena and Batista... or, you know, just using the obvious one where Batista fucked up and put Cena on the shelf for months.

So, yeah, anyway... it sounds stupid, but with how much Cena and Batista screw things up, it was nice knowing where they'd be for at least the next 4 months, instead of randomly destroying the credibility of others (of course, they'd likley have worked that in, too).

I see what you're saying, 007, but there's also the "tying up 40 minutes of my goddamned wrestling show every week" aspect of said feud.

I mean, I don't mind it if people don't want to help me in the kitchen (as a metaphor); I can do it better by myself anyway. But I will need time in there to prep, assemble, and cook, so don't spend all day fuckin' up things by yourselves in there.

Raw thoughts -

Really good show, and pretty memorable, too. While nothing on the show topped the greatness of Flair's sendoff, this was a better top-to-bottom show than that was, and easily the best Raw show from beginning to end of the year - it reminded me of the early '07 streak of great shows.

Kane-HBK was good and short, while Kofi-Manu had some impressive stuff from Kofi (like the flying clothesline) and some unintentional comedy (him nearly falling on his ass during the pre-double legdrop taunt). The HBK-HHH segment was really good and addressed one logical problem with this "HBK is broke" angle. The women's tag was better than the Raw norm, with everyone working really hard, and a memorable spot with Mickie falling to the floor hard, and thankfully being fine afterwards.

Rey-JBL was JBL's best match since his return nearly a year ago - he moved around really quickly and is clearly benefiting from his massive weight loss. The fallaway slam>DDT counter looked sweet, and I loved the finish, with HBK saving JBL from the 619, while also getting some revenge himself by slapping JBL and also giving JBL the win in the tourney - allowing him to live up to his deal with JBL while also getting some retribution and giving himself the chance to get more in the four-way.

Orton's speech ruled - it was one of his best promos yet, and set up an instant revenge match for Batista if/when he comes back. Punk-Jericho was excellent. As a match, it was around the same high level of their cage match, but with far more crowd heat (which gave it a major league feel), and the finish was freaking awesome. The timing for the springboard clothesline>codebreaker was perfect, and I hope Yuke's puts it in the SvR games somehow.

The main event was awesome - Trish got a huge pop when she came on, and showed more fire than most of either WWE or TNA's female roster, and looked more spot-on her with her strikes despite being out of action for two years. It wasn't a technical classic, but as a "feel good" main event, it worked for everyone, as the arena crowd got to see a big hometown star return while fans got to see an Attitude era favorite come back.

Quotes -
Santino - My name is… SANTINO MARELLA! For the last 12 months, you people have shown me nothing but MISRESPECT! You cheered when I lost my Intercontinental title, and you giggled when I injured my…SCTROTUS region. So now it’s my turn to have a little bit of fun. You see I have a secret - a secret I want all da children to pay close attention to. A secret regarding… SANTA CLAUS!
Beth - Santino, are you sure you wanna do this?!
Santino - Beth, I love you more than anything else in the world, but I kind of need you to.. SHUT UPA YOU FACE! (he then takes a Santa hat off her head) ANYWAY! The secret is… (Cena shows up)
Cena - The secret is that you never liked Santa. Years ago, you asked for that big Barbie doll house with the matching pink Barbie Doll Corvette and you never got it, did you!?
Santino - WHO TOLD YOU! Um…HOW DARE YOU!
Cena - HOW DARE YOU, SIR! HOW DARE YOU! There are some things you don’t talk about, and Santa is one.
Santino - You have a big mouth John Chena,, and there’s nothing more I’d like for Christmas than to beat you. So how about you face Glamarella. Get a partner - pick anyone you like… (Goldust goes whoosh)
Goldust - PICK ME, PLEASE!
Santino - I meant anyone with… OVARIES!
Goldust - RATS!
Cena - You two…and I gotta find a partner? You’re on.
Santino - Oh, and I forgot to mention John Chena, when Glamarella wins, I WILL tell the secret of Santa Claus! Hahaha
Kane - I was POLITELY asked by Stephanie McMahon to issue an apology to Kelly for the events of last week. (to Kelly) I APOLOGIZE to you! BUT YOU SHOULD APOLOGIZE TO ME FOR LEADING ME ON AND THEN LYING TO ME! You’re not in love with the Miz and someday you will regret not telling me the truth! (HBK comes out)
(on Kane vs. HBK)Cole - CHRISTMAS HAS COME EARLY FOR THE WWE UNIVERSE!
Kofi - To all the WWE Universe around the world - Happy Holidays from Kofi Kingston! BOOM BOOM BOOM!
King - The Intercontinental title means more to you than Layla!?
Regal - It certainly does, yes.
Orton - I have had many memorable moments throughout my career. Being the youngest world champion in history. Winning the main event of this year’s WrestleMania. But nothing is as personally satisfying as when I kicked Batista in his skull last week! Four years ago, I won my first world title in this very arena, in fact. (crowd goes wild) But the next day, Batista, seething with jealousy, hoisted me on his shoulders but dropped me back on the mat and ambushed me. I have been dreaming about kicking him in the skull for the past four years - the same dream, every night, four straight years. And then last week, it finally happened - Christmas came early. So how does it feel, Dave? How does it feel to know that you won’t be facing Cena at the Rumble? How does it feel to have your career cut short? Four years ago, you were in Evolution, and now, you’ve come full circle - you’re back where you started - taking a backseat to me! (fans chant RKO) You did it to yourself, Batista. You had your time, and your time is over! And the next time that you’ll see me, I will once again be the world heavyweight champion.
Cole - I was on WWE.com earlier today and looked at some of Kelly Kelly’s pictures and I kept looking over my shoulder!
Cole - Santino gave away lumps of Michael Cole to people he didn’t like!
King - That’s the first good idea he’s ever had!
(after loud SAN-TINO chants)Santino - I appreciate that so much! But before I get started, I’d like to draw your attention to a young lady in the audience tonight! There she is! And she is the world’s biggest…SANTINO MARELLA FAN! (she yells Beth’s name) Yes, Beth in my girlfriend. That makes you the world’s SECOND biggest Santino Marella fan! Hey, but second-a place is not so bad! You Canadians are second place to the United States in pretty much everything! You’re all behind Italy - that goes without say. Now then, earlier tonight, I said that after beats Glamarella and the diva of his choice, I was going to reveal the secret of Santa Claus. But why wait? Children of the world, I am about to tell you something so big, it’s gonna change your life forever, and the secret is…(Cena comes out)
Cena - I did some research, and I found out your secret - it’s amazing! Honestly, it is amazing, because the secret is that Santa Claus, tonight is here. He took time out of his busy schedule to come here, drank some milk, had some cookies, shoot hands with Dolph Ziggler. He bought a front row ticket, he’s right there! He gave me one Christmas wish and it’s one I really needed - he got me another tag team partner. (Trish comes out)
Cole - ONE OF THE GREATEST DIVAS EVER!
King - One of the greatest women’s champions ever!

Oh and btw I love Canadian crowds, they cheered for Y2J, cheered for Santino, booed the shit out of Cena, what else can you ask for?
Overall it was a decent show, Punk and Jericho was just too good for a TV match, Trish Stratus apperance was cool but we all ready knew, no Boretista for the night, Glamarella in the Main Event, 'nough said.

**WARNING SPOILER ALERT**
I don't know if you care but...
At last night's SD taping Maryse became the new Divas Champ *sarcasm* Woo-hoo!!! *ends sarcasm*
