The Joey Styles' Punch-Out!! Pro-Wrestling thread
Oh and btw I love Canadian crowds, they cheered for Y2J, cheered for Santino, booed the shit out of Cena, what else can you ask for?
I wish every single WWE event was like those ECW tapings from 2005-2006 (? forgot what year). That's all I ask. Maybe we can actually get better matches that way instead of the same boring ass routines and promos we have gotten for what seems like forever.

Jay, for you to not mention the excellent Jericho/Punk match at all in your recap serves as a suitable point for suggesting that you have no idea what you write about in your recaps. That was the best match on the show by a long shot.

See, this is why I wish RAW didn't suck balls. I turned it off during the JBL/Rey match. Every other time I turn it off, nothing ever happens. This time, a good match actually goes down? Damn. :D

Really late but wow that Jericho/Punk match was awesome.

I'm actually going to go the opposite direction with the Walls. The way it was incorporated into the match made Punk look like a badass which is something he really needed after his unfortunate super-underdog title reign. At the same time, Jericho overcoming a very strong looking Punk helps him regain some standing.
Don't you mean "Na na na naaaa.. na na na naaaa..."?
Yeah that. ;)

Anyways just finished watching RAW off of my DVR. Good enjoyable show overall. Punk vs Jericho is to me the highlight of the show. I dug Orton's speech. JBL vs Mysterio was okayish. The ending worked for me since it put over HBK now working for JBL. Santino was once again great as usual. Loved how he quickly turned the crowd from cheering him to booing him.
You can't resist correcting people, can you?
For something like that, no, I can not. Plus, it's Demoman. I like to jokingly bust his balls.

TNA Impact $9.99 new 12/28-1/4 at GameCrazy.. Belee Dat', Playa.

Especially since I did it on purpose just to see if you'd correct me.

Dag nabbit. Just bought it for $12 shipped from GF. Oh well, $3 isn't too terribly bad.

Guess I was wrong about it hitting $10 before Christmas. Oh so close.

But it was a damn good guess.

DAMN~! guess that all but puts the nail in the coffin for future TNA games.

Now if only TNA went under and all the investors got behind something like, say, ROH :D

I think Midway's future puts the nail in the coffin for itself, and indirectly another TNA game.

Two amazingly unlikely things have to happen for another TNA game to come out:
(1) Midway has to survive
(2) TNA has to become popular/increase in the ratings pretty substantially

Seeing as I'm more likely to join Bon Jovi as the lead singer than either of those two things happen, I wouldn't hold my breath. But if the stars align properly - if Midway finds someone dumb enough to bail them out, and if TNA manages to accidentally strike gold (because they sure aren't intentionally trying to increase viewership), it could happen.

Damn I really want a TNA Impact 2, hopefully another publisher team will somehow get the TNA liscence, considering Midway is fucking dead at this point.

Stuff.

It might just be my old school opinion but I still steadfastly believe that most wrestling fans today would still rather see actual in ring wrestling than well intended verbalizing by those that can't pull off that particular phase of the business. Monday Night Raw was really fun to watch and I credit much of that enjoyment to the fact that there was several meaningful bouts on the show. It was one of the better Raws of the year even though I still don't fully understand the outcome of the JBL-Rey bout that included HBK's interference.

Jim Ross for WWE President in 2012!

I would love to see more of her....that didn't come out just right...

So Punk and Jericho had a good match huh? I think I might download RAW and check it out.. it'll be the first wrestling match I've seen in months. :p

Awesome, Scorch. Thanks for posting. This is bad for the future of the (potential) franchise, but I missed the $20 sale and I wan the game.

TNA Impact for 9.99 is a really good deal although it isn't the best game in the world. I paid around 29.99 for it when it came out. I haven't played Smackdown VS Raw 2009 in a while or as much as I figured I would. When Smackdown VS Raw 2009 came out I didn't touch TNA Impact.
All versions of Impact $10 after Christmas? Guess it's time to check this piece of shit out. :]
I suppose it is time to give that game a play.

I suppose it is time to give that match a view.

I get a chuckle every time Don West and Mike Tenay try to explain the Suicide character (he's from the TNA video game!) It reminds me of Christmas movie classic Jingle All The Way when the parade commentators are talking about the epic battle between Arnold and Sinbad

Decent match between Kiyoshi and Sabin, but also lots of talking so far. Samoa Joe not being around has made it a little more watchable to me
So East-Coasters, is Impact worth watching this week, or should I continue watching Ice Age 2?
Get DirecTV so you can live in California and still watch it live like I do. :p But yeah, it's been a pretty decent show.

I have Comcast already, and I don't feel like changing providers just to feel bad about watching TNA earlier.

Eh, impact hasn't been nearly bad as I thought it would be tonight, compared to what's been shown recently. Then again, that's like comparing diarrhea to a debilitating fever.

Impact was okay - nothing particularly memorable about it, and there was way, way, way too much damned talking on this "total nonstop action wrestling" show. Mick's big announcement was great, but should've closed the show. While they made it seem like a big deal on commentary, it didn't play a part in the rest of the show, and came off as secondary to Jeff Jarrett's return. Not that I'm shocked by that, but of the two, Mick's got far more drawing potential for TNA. They also didn't do anything to make me think Rhino could win the belt - a bad thing given that he hasn't been shown as capable of beating a top-tier star since his renewed push began.

Foley beating up the Mafia really made them look weak - Foley barely looks able to get in the ring without appearing to be in pain, and yet he can hold them off, while the younger, healthier guys fall victim to them. Mick also breaking out the goofy sock in this angle revolving around "gangland hits" strikes me as odd, and something that sort of undermines the drama - but no more than say... Booker using that ridiculous accent in promos.

Mick - I’d like to wish everyone a happy holiday, and I’ve been trying to be merry, but it’s been difficult because last week, I raised glasses with the Main Event Mafia after we agreed to no more gangland-style hits! The next time there’s a gangland-style hit, I may have to become personally involved! The bloodshed stops tonight!

Funny little note about Maryse since she won the belt tonight, here's the lyrics to her entrance music in English (from LOP)

Why? Why?
Why are you so beautiful?
Why are you moving like this?
Why are you hurting me?
I'm feeling naked
Oh yes!
Why are you doing all this?
Why are you telling all this?
Why are you hurting me?
Oh yes, oh yes!

Please be near me
I need you
I want to be "inside" of you
Oh yes!
I need to be "inside" of you
Oh yes!

Man, Maryse looks lazy as fuck in the ring. I did really enjoy the Helms/Benjamin match, although I can't stand that new finisher of Helms' he has, the "Underdog," or whatever.

EDIT: Ugh, I can already see it now: Umaga vs. Kozlov. "Mauler vs. Savage."

Come on now... can you imagine what a promo these two would do together to hype the match....

Kozlov: I am Kozlov.
Umaga: AAAHHHHH GAH GAH UGHAH!
Kozlov: I am beat you.
Umaga: OOOHHH GAH GAH!
Kozlov: If he dies... he dies.
Umaga: NO GAH GAH!

That entire Maryse/McCool match dragged on for what seemed like an eternity. Maryse and McCool had a slightly better match at one of the PPV's a few months ago, not to mention how much better Maryse's match with Maria of all people was last week. I'm going to call the H "I'm dropping the belt so i'm going to phone it in" on McCool for that, as you could see how much more she was into the post-match beatdown on Maria than the actual match

I watched Impact on Thursday, but I'm watching the replay now- I guess after the UFC thing, they moved it to 6 A.M. permanently- and I just have to say, as my first HD wrestling show, this is awesome. I'm so glad to finally b able to watch in high def.

Also, while My network TV wasn't listed as one of the HD channels on DirecTV, I found out that Smackdown is in HD. I guess that's probably the only show on the channel in high def. All my wrestling in HD... so awesome.

I picked up the HD box from Time Warner yesterday (free swap!), and will be watching Raw in HD for the first time Monday. I'm a little scared to see HBK in HD.
