The Legend of Zelda™: Skyward Sword

I don't get Giant Bomb's review or it's comparison to COD, which he said needed change. Why didn't Zelda need change exactly?

No clue what that comment was about, all games need to evolve in some way (look at Wind Waker, that was completely different, but also my favorite game in the series. :))

I don't like this though "(prepare to catch lots of bugs, and read descriptions of what those bugs are every single time!)"
I was playing Link's Awakening DX not too long ago, and realized how annoying it is to read through comment boxes over and over and over again (every time you touch a heavy object, it tells you that you can't move it yet.)

Overall though, it looks like it's going to be a freaking amazing game, can't wait! I like how they've been saying that it takes some elements from Metroid games (you have to go back through dungeons to find something you couldn't have found the first time.) I think that will add a lot to the gameplay, though it may be because I like Metroid almost as much as Zelda games. :p

As per the Giant Bomb review: "Zelda doesn’t need to become something else to maintain relevance, but at a certain point, when “a brand-new great Zelda game” isn’t enough, there’s reason to pause."

But I really disagree with Patrick Klepek's final assessment, THIS is EXACTLY what Zelda needed...a kick in the pants and something new and different.

I was thinking about it earlier, Wind Waker should have been released second (before TP) and I think had it been it would have been accepted better (by most who gripe about it, including me). If they hadn't teased the Space World demo, that might have also helped with the acceptance of it, but I digress.

For all the crap that Zelda 2 gets, I still like it after 20 odd years, because it did something totally new with the concept and made it feel fresh, then LttP came along and perfected the 2D overhead view from Zelda 1. Ocarina and MM were ok for what they are, good games but limited by the technology they were on.

So for Zelda to stay fresh and relevant, yes this game needed to be what he says it didn't need to be, if we got a rehash of TP, everyone would complain (except diehards), I was trying to remember the ending of TP a few minutes ago and honestly I can't, so what does that say about it's staying power, I actually preferred the grey original version that was shopped before they redesigned it midway and came out with the final released version we got. TP felt like OoT 1.5.

I'm really looking forward to this game (I think it's the first Zelda, I have bought on launch) but moreover, I'm glad it is the innovation that I personally needed to see happen to make the game relevant to me as a player, and I'd argue the same care and attention needs to be given to some of the other franchises while they are at it too.

And I re-read his CoD comment twice and have no idea where his train of thought even came from on that, he must be playing too much MW3...I dunno.

I'm sick of the Ocarina skeleton. I would love to see a return to the arcade combat of the first 3 games. The art stye of Skyward Sword sold me though... plus console Zelda is like pizza, even when it's bad it's still pretty good.

COD needs a big kick in the pants, too. Everyone knows it does. Saying Zelda didn't need change is a fallacy of the highest regard.

Question? Does this require a motion plus controller and if so is the one that comes bundled with the special edition the correct one to play the game with? or do I need to buy the dongle thing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKYn4ACAd7s&feature=player_embedded

This is awesome. I can't wait to hear the whole disc. It's also depressing at the same time. Zelda would be even more epic with a full orchestra in-game soundtrack, a shame that Nintendo hasn't done this yet(TP wasn't was it?).
Was tempted to plug in my wii to play LTTP after hearing this.
talk about someone who takes their job was to serious that chick with the wand and headphones. the fuck
Question? Does this require a motion plus controller and if so is the one that comes bundled with the special edition the correct one to play the game with? or do I need to buy the dongle thing.
It requires Motion Plus, whether it be the add-on or the controller with Motion Plus built in.
Is every game coming out in the next 6 weeks going to get a 10/10?
it's a score that used to mean something, now it just means good.

Don't know if this has been posted before, but I've done some asking around and the soundtrack seems to be bundled in the package. A NWS employee mentioned that it was going to be in the whole first run (even though she didn't seem to know what first run meant.) So anyone preordering should have 0 issues actually getting their bonus.
I've really got to reach for a time when scores really, actually meant something.
the perefect 10 used to show it's face like once every few years. now it's been given to every holiday release.

Perfect 10 scores are bullshit anyway.Every game has flaws,no such thing as a "perfect" game. The whole numerical score system really needs to go,since most people care about the score and not the pro's and con's of a game.
Totally stupid, but I really want a gold nunchuk to play my LE bundle with.
That's really the only gold accessory left to make. They've already got the gold classic controller and now the gold Wii remote. I doubt it'll ever be made but that would make for a cool setup.

Only because the substance behind most of those reviews are terrible.

i dont think a 10 is considered a perfect game, but it still should be a delicate score to give out, and I think I've seen 5 in the past month. i guess we're living in the golden age of gaming guys!

A 10 does not mean perfect...

Gamespot gave it a 7.5 !!!

Didn't they get tons of hate years ago for the Twilight Princess score? I'm sure a 7.5 will make even more people angry.

I don't care what score a review gives as long as they are mainly spoiler free (This review is so spoiler heavy it comes across as having an agenda to say others shouldn't play it), factually accurate in its' criticisms (again, this one has a couple of major inaccuracies) and has well defended criticism (It's not).
A 10 does not mean perfect...
Exactly. A 10 in my book is simply a game experience like no other and not to be missed. A game so great that you can overlook a few minor flaws.

Anybody going to the launch event on Saturday at Rockefeller Center? I'm hesistant on going, since it'll be very likely I'll buy the game at Nintendo World, rather than waiting for bigger savings.

Gamespot is the last place you should go for wii reviews. (hi or low)

I mean I didn't expect it to be given a 10 like arkham city but they probably just picked a number out of a hat. There will be more reputable reviews coming soon.

I find it funny when people bash the score a game got without even touching the game(7.5 is good score anyway). That score that Gamespot gave it reminded me of this video

7.5 doesn't mean it is a bad game. To me that means average. I expect this game to be much much better than average but I don't see any way that I'll like it more than Batman or some of the other AAA 360/PS3 games that are being released this holiday. Unless this is a complete reinvention of the series (on par with Metroid Prime or some other series that took a giant leap forward) I think B/B+ is about as high of a score as I'd give it simply because no matter how clever the dungeons are or how big the overworld is we've all played this game a thousand times already.

More of a good thing is definitely still a good thing but not a 9 or 10 in my eyes. Maybe (hopefully) I'm wrong though and this is the absolute pinnacle of 3D adventure games based on the existing Wii technology.

Also, Twilight Princess wasn't that good. It was a below average Zelda game (but an above average game overall when looked at in a vacuum). I enjoyed it but I can see why people wouldn't care for it at all.

The Gamespot reviewer admitted he didn't even know the Wii remote didn't use the sensor bar (i.e. he was playing the game wrong).

Professional journalism = lol

Good Lord.

People still pay attention to reviews? Beyond, like, "This game is riddled with game-breaking bugs," or, "Blizzard has replaced Battle.Net with a Thai lady-boy who comes to your house shoves cocaine up your ass"?

If there is something dramatically fucking wrong with a game - or at least dramatically different from its predecessors - then a review can be useful. Otherwise... eh. We all know what we like, don't we?

...I didn't get any cocaine? What the fuck Blizzard.

And eh, if reviewers actually reviewed in a meaningful way without giving away spoilers and being a bit more objective about things, then I might read them. However since spoilers are prevalent in reviews I don't bother with them and by the time I don't care about spoilers anymore, the reviews have zero importance to me anymore. I can't really go by generic user reviews either as they are nearly all 1 or 10 because people don't understand how to review something. I can only go by previews at this point or wait until people I have an ounce of faith in buy the game and tell me the pros/cons and their reasoning.

But with Zelda? fuck that. Day 1.

That's basically what I do.I look at the pros/cons,and then I'll watch a video of the game on Youtube to see if it's something I would want.

This is pretty much how I am. I also put much more faith/stock in actual gamers on a few trusted forums. If you read impressions on the boards you visit, I get a much better idea if something is all hype or not.

I know I like Zelda. This will be a Day 1 purchase for me.

I don't really read reviews anymore. I mostly look up you tube videos of the game and I just check the reviews for any game breaking bugs or such and to get an idea on how long the game is (considering it's a new ip or a shooter where lengths tend to vary).

I can usually tell by that point if I want the game and how much I want to spend on it.

With that said, the more I think about Skyward Sword, the more I realize this is the Wii game I bought my Wii for. A Motion Plus controlled game that is huge, with tons of fun things to do and is just a quality tier game. Plus it's Zelda and I have become a whore for Zelda

Zelda is the only franchise I care about from Nintendo anymore. They already destroyed Metroid,Mario doesn't really do anything for me anymore, and Pikmin 3 ain't coming out for awhile.

They dropped the ball on Pikmin. They should have released it this Christmas as originally planned because it is not a system seller in the slightest.

No! Metroid is still awesome (*pretends Other M doesn't exist*). Mario is still awesome too. I don't think I'll ever tire of those games because they require little to no time investment and they are always innovative (at least more often than not).

I can't believe the Wii is almost over and we haven't seen a dedicated Pikmin game yet. Totally inexcusable.
Hell, I think they dropped the ball putting Skyward Sword right at the end of the fucking videogame orgy we just had.
Agreed. Not sure Zelda can carry the holidays anymore with a November release. This would have been perfect in February or March though.
Hell, even if it'd come out at the beginning of November, they'd be up a lot of sales.

Also, what's Other M?
Metroid's Wind Waker: A good game everyone hated for stupid reasons when it came out but will probably come around on it later.

Hey. Wind Waker's my favourite Zelda. So far, at least.

I've seen some of the cutscenes for Other M. I have no idea how it plays, but based on those cutscenes, fuck Other M right in its stupid face. It does not deserve to be compared to Wind Waker. It can have the greatest gameplay ever, but those cutscenes? No. They are wrong.
Metroid's Wind Waker: A good game everyone hated for stupid reasons when it came out but will probably come around on it later.
No it was just shitty game.Other than the terrible story and destroying the character that Samus had,the gameplay was terrible.Exploring wasn't fun at all,and they had that half-assed FPS view mechanic.

No, it wasn't a shitty game. Samus barely had a character before this, so the idea that this game "destroyed" her is nonsense. It just went against people's assumption of what she was like (ie a woman who acts like a man).

Actually I would just call it a sub-par action game with the Metroid license thrown in.Even if they didn't do anything with the character of Samus you still got the terrible story with some of the worst dialogue in a game(worst that the cutscenes are unskippable).

Then you got the unnecessary scenes where you were forced into you fps view and had to scan for something, which were pretty damn annoying. The fps mode itself felt more like something to handicap the player, then being something helpful. The game's good if want an okay action game, not something to play if you expect a Metroid game.

it went against a woman to destroys giant aliens turning into a submissive lady and has to beg to use her powers imo tbh iirc fwiw

wonder if its too late to pre order the special edition D=
