The "Messiah CompleX PWNS Countdown and WWH" Comic Discussion Thread

Yeah. Sinestro Corps definitely fully deserves this HOLY fuckING SHIT. That was absolutely insane. I didn't know the significance of the last page till someone told me it was
Superboy Prime and the freaking Anti-Monitor
. That literally made my jaw drop. And seeing all the scenes with
Kyle on the Sinestro Corps planet and then him ending up becoming the new host for Parallax was insane. It was so heart-wrenching. It was interesting how they tied up the "Kyle's mom dies" arc by making it Sinestro that caused it.
I definitely think I'm dropping Amazon Attacks to start picking up all the Sinestro Corps stuff.
Uh...yeah...chicks making out...yeah...yoohoo...
I'm guessing this was sarcasm. Sorry we all haven't lived an exciting life such as yourself. I guess I could have streched the truth a bit and said my dad was in there making out with them holding the ice-dildo, but damn, what's it take to impress some people? That was probably the biggest jaw-dropping experience I've had...and I've seen a lot of weird shit. Just out of curiosity what would yours have been?

I finally got to reading the rest of my comics, Cable and Deadpool was excellent. WWH X-men and Frontline were pretty bad, and damn that Fallen Son series is horrible. Is Jeph Loeb really writing this crap for Marvel or is it one of his proteges? And of course Wolverine Origins was ass.

I was only trying to be funny. I guess I need some work. I did not mean to offend you at all. I apologize.

Man, you don't have to apologize to me . It's all good. I've been trying to be funny for 29 years...and so far I've only managed to impress my fiancee...I guess that's why she decided to marry my sorry ass.

I got to read advance copies of Thor, New Warriors 2, and Fallen Son Iron Man, and I don't really want to review them on my site till the day they come out, but NW2 was probably the best one out of the three. I think old school New Warriors, Generation X, and New X-men (not old school) really should be picking up this series.

Wow was X-Men 200 awesome. Granted, most of the changes talked about by Carey related to
Mystique changing sides (which I'm not sure if I liked, cause I sorta enjoyed her on the X-Men, even with her boning Bobby)
, but it was still great. I can't wait to see what happens with the Marauders and what the heck Sunfire and Gambit were up to. I just hope they don't fuck with Emma too much, cause I remember in the promo art she was on the Marauders' side, and I personally love Emma as an X-Man bitch. It's the perfect role for her.

New Avengers\Transformers was kind of a let down, but I wont give up on it yet.

Thor was good even though it was a big tease. Very well drawn. Asgard is in Oklahoma? Did I miss something somewhere? When did that happen? I like the idea, though.

Marvel Zombies vs army of Darkness ending was hilarious.

So come on people let me know...

WHO IS A SKRULL AND WHO IS NOT?

...I think Karsh is a skrull...

X-Men #200 was a waste of my time and money. I loved the cover, but that was it.

All Star Superman was excellent and the art continues to be the best.

I wanna ask. Is anyone absolutely loving these new series Marvel has been throwing at us post-Civil War? All the young-heroes, new-team books. Cause so far I've been reading Avengers: The Initiative, New Warriors and now The Order and so far they've all be awesome. They remind me in a way of Young Avengers and Runaways when they started. They're definitely three series I'm gonna keep up on reading.

So I haven't read comic books for years (was mostly into Spidey). I saw this badass comic on G4 Comic Con, something about the assassination of the President. They said it was only a buck too. Are there any more comics like this with a political kind of story line nowadays? Can anyone reccomend me some cool new comics (never was into Superman, XMEN, etc or any of that).

Yeah, that comic was Black Summer issue 0. It came out in June. It was definitely interesting. I wonder when the next issue is out. As for other politically inspired comics, I'd recommend looking into Ex Machina by Brian K. Vaughn. It's a comic about a super-hero who quits super-heroing to become the mayor of NYC and what occurs both before hand and afterwards. It's a really well-written comic that I love.

yeah im liking marvel's new direction. Im also reading the avengers initiative and the new warriors...i was thoroughly satisfied with how they started these two series. i think Night Thrasher has become real bad ass. i wanted to pick up the order at my local comic shop but they out =( same with the sinestro corps 2nd printing.

Yeah, I definitely love the direction they're taking with Night Thrasher. Though I'm more intrigued by Sofia and Jubilee showing up. I never liked Jubs before but I find her intriguing now that she's lost her fireworks powers but has something new. But I always loved Sofia back in New X-Men, so I like that they've brought her back.

I recently started reading Invincible since my library had some volumes of it. I wish I had started reading this comic sooner. Robert Kirkman is awesome. I really love the characters he's created in Invincible. Can't wait to read some more.

Well, I know they repeatedly hyped the Loeb Wolverine-run as being "The final showdown between Wolverine and Sabretooth" and everyone mocked it.
Well, I definitely didn't expect Wolverine to cut Sabretooth's head off with a sword that blocks the healing factor. That was definitely pretty cool. Though I hope they leave Sabretooth dead for awhile. He's sorta run his course and this is good for his character.

Also, I loved what female Ultron's plan B was. I can't wait to see how this plays out.
I wonder if this is gonna bring the Void back. This definitely is gonna fuck the Sentry up big time.

Time for a triple post that covers multiple days. Regardless, they announced the new Astonishing X-Men team today at Comic-Con and WOW. Warren Ellis and Simone Bianchi. I'm not too sure how Ellis will do on the big X-Men team, but I absolutely love the Bianchi on art part. He was one of the only enjoyable things about Jeph Loeb's Wolverine arc. Plus it seems X-23 might be joining the team since the preview art page has her with the Astonishing team. Although losing Joss and Cassiday will suck, hopefully this will put the book back on a monthly shipping schedule after Unstoppable is done.

I haven't read the New Warriors, but The Omega Men was great. It kind of reminded me of that really weird X- Force team whose members where always dying and getting wasted, except not so over the top. It was a great read. I like that The Intiative tied into the WWHULK really well, most tie-ins don't. I wondered why Starks big needle didn't work. Mighty Avengers RULE! I've been re-reading all my CAP(sigh) stuff more than the new stuff. I love all the new marvel teams really. They are all very enjoyable.

I didn't know that Joss and Cassiday were leaving. That sucks. Any news on there next gigs? I hope they stay with Marvel.

I never got any of the 52 issues. Not one. THESE TPB'S ARE AWESOME. I love this f'n story.

My all-time favorite story in comics is Kingdom Come. DC is bringing it into regular continuity and the Super-Man of that (else)world is joining the Justice Society of America. I can't help but feel psyched for that. Thing is, I don't read any DC books regularly. But I will starting with the JSA. Whats the best and most definitive Super-Man book right now? I got the Sinestro Corps book and loved it. That book is like The Legion of Galactic Doom.
Paralax?
Super-(evil)Boy?(i LOVE how the only Super-Boy in the DCU is a villain)
Anti-monitor?
Sinestro?
A thousand evil Yellow Lanterns?
...shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit...

New Warriors is getting really good. you should pick up the first 2 books. if you like it than read on...because Night Thrasher is totally bad ass..and the fact t hat many ex Xmen and other fugitive regestration dodgers are on the team also.

yeah the my best friend recently started with the JSA and JLA and said they were all fantastic reads. you will like those books alot...i dont read DC that much either but I picked up Supergirl and cant put that down. im also liking what DC wildstorm did with Gen 13. a whole new change and a darker storyline is what it needed to be revived. a very good read IMO.

i saw an add for a JSA tpb. so i'll definetly get that one. probably the JLA one too. i snatched up a couple of the morrisson/frankly Super-Man issues. thats a fun book and the art is so different. it really grabs you. is that book in continuity? i can never tell when comes to DC.

the new avengers keeps getting better, i must say.
is that it for Omega Flight? i was digging that book. i guess there's room for only one Omega(Men) team.
is it just me or does avengers\transformers kind of...y'know...SUCK?

Ever since I decided to go to Comic-Con on a whim a couple weeks ago, I've been inspired to pick up a bunch of trade paperbacks. It's a good thing I haven't bought any video games for the past couple months 'cause I've already picked up 24 trades!

At the least, I haven't paid full price for anything; I've taken advantage of 50% off sales at the con, Amazon's 4-for-3 deal, In Stock Trades' 35% off prices, and Buy.com's Google Checkout $10 coupon. I do feel bad for my local comic shop now...I'll probably go there next week and pick up a few things.

What was your experience like at Comic Con? I swear, one of these days I'll make it out there for it. But I'll probably just end up with a bunch of useless free stuff.
What was your experience like at Comic Con? I swear, one of these days I'll make it out there for it. But I'll probably just end up with a bunch of useless free stuff.
This was actually my first Comic Con ever (as well my first comic convention of any sort), despite the fact that I live only 3 hours north in Los Angeles. So I might not be able to give you any sort of veteran run-down with comparisons to previous years. Plus it's been impressed upon me that I'm the sort of Johnny-come-lately that's caused Comic Con to now become an overly crowded affair.

I'm sure that the convention has always housed much more than comic books, with attractions extending to movies, television, and games among other things. But to me, the presence of these other mediums was quite significant, and I sometimes felt that they overshadowed the comics themselves. Perhaps this emphasis on non-comic book attractions --witness the vast floorspace being given not to comic publishers but to movie studios-- has led to the skyrocketing increase in attendance from casual comic fans.

All I know is that I'd never seen jampacked crowds like this before, and I've been to E3, auto shows, baseball and basketball games, music festivals, you name it. Whether this is a good or bad thing isn't for me to say, especially since I'm not a longtime patron with claims to the "good old days."

As a first-time attendee, I did feel overwhelmed by the convention. There were so many booths, signings, giveaways, panel discussions, sneak previews, and other programs all going on at the same time that I hardly knew where to start. It certainly didn't help matters that the provided maps were very poorly designed (though the schedules were clearer) with odd alphanumeric designations that had little rhyme or reason. This is not to mention the fact that some walkways and halls had been designated as one-way or contraflow paths, and this was not reflected in the guide books.

All complaining aside, it was quite the experience to see so many big names in the comic industry in one place. Seeing as how I can only recognize about 10 comic creators, the Comic Con experience must be even more incredible to a hardcore fan. After all, it really took me some time before I realized that I was standing next to Greg Rucka near the DC booth, or that I was shopping directly from Kevin Eastman at the Heavy Metal booth!

What I enjoyed most about Comic Con is seeing how the comic book industry opens its arms to its customers and fans. I could actually go to a panel to see Neil Gaiman in person and hear him speak about Sandman's legacy! I could ask Tim Sale for a sketch and he'd give me one gladly! I could find myself chatting one-on-one with Brian Azzarello about the plot of 100 Bullets! I could see Paul Dini's face beam as I told him how his depiction of Mr. Freeze moved me as a child! These are the sorts of things that I don't think are afforded to the general public by any other industry, and I'm glad to see comic creators embrace us like this.

Maybe the Con you went to had a big hollywood presence because it was in
California?

I've been to a few Cons myself but they were not large ones. Kentucky doesn't really attract many names from the industry. The guy who did Marvel Zombies was at they last one I went to. His name I can't remember, but he was really great with the fans. My step-dad has a HUGE collection and has a booth at most Ky Cons. His stuff is mostly golden age, alot of 10 cent 30's and 40's comics. Not a lot of buyers at Cons for that stuff but it's cool to watch people stare at his Green Hornet #1 and Green Latern #1(1941).

You guys should see his basement. Every fan boys dream. I just dig through box after box. It's awesome.

I grabbed those New Warriors books. They're pretty good. I like Jubilee making a little come back. I've always had a soft spot for her since those Jim Lee X-Men days.

I found some JSA back issues. They are really good, I'm reminded of those great Astro City books (no it's not just the Alex Ross covers) except these are centered around the heroes and not the poeple who love among them.

Speaking of Alex Ross...he is working with Jim Krueger on a book with all the public domain characters (those whose copyrights were never renewed) from the forties. It will be called SuperPowers.

Does anyone have opinions to give on these comics?

Avigon
The Black Forest
Gotham Central
The Mighty Skullboy Army
Terry Sharp
The Wicked West
Zombie World

and anything by Jason besides The Iron Wagon

It's easy for Robert Kirkman to attend conventions in KY since he lives in Winchester. And you are right the guy is really cool. Just out of curiosity man, where do you buy your books in the Ville?

Dood, Thrasher has always been a badass, this the guy that dropped Rich Ryder out of the roof of a building because he thought it would help Rich get his powers reactivated. Lucky for Nova this worked.

The Zone. Between Biglots and the lazer tag place on Shelbyville road.(if i go missing, everyone here call the police.) They have good deals for holds and subscribers. They have a poor back issue collection but have good toys, statues, and shirts. Their website was hacked a while back. I go to The Great Escape for back issues but to The Zone on Wednesdays for my weekly fix. It's Tuesday and I got the shakes.

I used to love the Zone years ago, when they used to have 50% off backissues on Tuesdays. I haven't been to a comic store in a while.

Regarding spoiler #1
I'm just trying to figure out where the hell this falls in continuity, as we've obviously seen Sabretooth escape X-Men custody in adjectiveless during the previous arc.

Guess he's going to show up in the current arc, considering he is/was a Maurader, probably ending with his recapture to set up the Wolverine story. Or one or both could always be clones, what with that "Sinister made backup copies of all his Mauraders" nonsense.

What I'm trying to figure out is the whole Beast backup story.
I never read the final issues for X-Factor and missed a bunch of stuff related to this in X-Man and who knows where else, but I had heard that all of the AoA characters had been hunted down by the Shiar or something? I know AoA Nemesis/Holocaust was snorted up Hyperion Rex's nostrils in Exiles, but I thought Dark Beast and Sugarman went bye-bye. Obviously not.

On the last point, no it's not just you. It's TERRIBLE. Just a lousy crossover idea. Wolverine screaming "I'll kill you GRRRR" over and over again after being run over and pinned...Jesus.

In any case, All Star Superman is definitely not in regular DC continuity. At this point it may become one of the 52 worlds/realities, but in any case it is outside of mainstream/regular DC. Same with All Star Batman, obviously.

All Star Superman is so damn good, in my opinion, because it has that feel of the old far out 60's and 70's stories. Just really trippy, off the wall stuff but it flows so well and is so superbly written, with such a fitting, strange art. But what more do you expect from Morrison and Quitely? Top notch stuff. If you like it, I recommend getting either the original issues/full run or the collected hardcovers of Morrison/Quitely's run on New X-Men. SO damn good, and it basically set up the foundation for Astonishing X-Men.

Not just because it's pretty much always been at San Diego (at least as long as I can remember), but because, despite Hollywood and the mainstream's reluctance to accept it, comic book fans tend to be significant movers and shakers of pop culture, setting trends and being bellweathers/benchmarks for what's hot and what's not.

So the studios have finally realized that the people at the Comicon are the same people who will go back and write their well followed and cult blogs and opinions on what's hot and what's not, and get buzz generating.

It's akin to the advertising theory of the super seller, how every group of people basically has one or two trendsetters who do the advertising for the company, try out the new products, and either proclaim them as heavensent or as shit, and basically get their friends to follow and purchase said new item, be it the iPod, a DS, or a movie ticket to the hot new movie the guy is hyping.

I'm curious, did Countdown to Adventure come out last week? I checked at my LCS and he didn't have it out this week or last week and I forgot to ask him, so I was curious if anyone else found it? I was really looking forward to it since the Space story was one of my favorites in 52.
For some reason, Geoff Johns loves blackboards. Booster Gold #1 was awesome. I'll actually be picking this one up, not just reading it :)
I can't wait until some pathetic D List hero dies by blackboard. I.e., a blackboard falling on him or her, or the board getting swung around, knocking them in the head, making them fall back and hit their head again and put them in a coma for years or finally death.

It'll be the new "Death by car door" or "Death by being stuffed in a fridge". You heard it here first!

they still got back issue tuesdays, man. it's just they don't have a whole lot there. if you are looking for that "one issue i can't find", it is not going to be at the Zone. but they have a real descent TPB selection and usually the staff picks are right on. everyone who works there is super cool and hey, its only 5 minutes down the street. How about you?

has anyone been reading this current punisher arc? is that worth grabing? i see MY BOY Winter Soldier on an add with a gat to frank castle's melon. when i put it like that... i think i'll just get it any way. bucky's my boy!

i already have goose bumps thinking about the WATCHMEN movie. i hope it is done well. unlike the other alan moore books turned to films.:wall:

The Punisher War Journal arc was probably THE slowest moving comic ever. It felt like six hundred issues of nothing happening due to half it happening in a flashback and half it happening at the current time (all during the same trip Punisher made, so it could have been told straight through) followed by one issue of jam-packed action. I didn't enjoy it much. I'll be REALLY glad when Bucky tells him to stop wearing Cap's mask and that'll be the end of my reading PWJ...

At wizard world chicago Marvel seemed to say that they were moving away from the decompressed story telling style. That makes me a happy panda.
yeah i feel the same way about Wolverine:Origin. ok story but REALLY slow. i wont get PWJ if its like that.
I agree on Origin...it is the classic case of the WAAAAY too many part storyline that has a crappy story to boot. I'm talking 6 issues to go anywhere, and it really doesn't go anywhere interesting or provide anything truly significant (other than one new character that is pretty "meh" ). Nothing kills it more for me than a 6 part "epic" that could have easily have fit into 1 to 2 issues tops. But it's all about squeezing out as much money as you can from your fans.

You want to see a comic that has loooooooooooong arcs chalk full of practically nothing, Ultimate Spiderman. I'll undoubtedly get hate for this, and I have loved a LOT of the storylines and character developments, but there are times where Bendis just has Peter and MJ staring back and forth with that little babbling baby talk nonsense they do for pages on end. Or sounding like Jewish grandmothers. It's like he has so many other projects that sometimes he just lets this one slip or writes some half ass dialog or plot last minute. Ugh it can be so infuriating because it started out so amazing and fresh.

And then, on the opposite end of the 6 or 12 part maxi series story arcs, you have the ones that are packed so full of badassery in each and every issue, but they come out once every decade. Ultimates, anyone? And they're not even the worst offender. Never mind Kevin Smith's Spiderman and Black cat that finally got completed, what about his Daredevil/Bullseye Target limited series of 1 issues total in the last 10 years. Seriously, I think that came out when Clinton was still President. Not to mention Ultimate Wolverine/Hulk.

Speaking of Origin and whether it will ever start going somewhere, where the hell is Wolverine's brother as shown in The End? Is he Romulus? And screw all that...if he remembers everything that he's actually experienced, what about the time after Rose died, and was Dog Sabretooth?
At wizard world chicago Marvel seemed to say that they were moving away from the decompressed story telling style. That makes me a happy panda.
Yeah, I wonder why? Perhaps because the fans finally said enough is enough after the umpteenth 6 part opening story arc. It's like they're preparing every comic series printed to be transfered to film, with 6 x 24 to get the standard 120-150 page script.

It would be one thing if it was uncompressed and had some damn meat in each issue. But that's been the case with maybe 5% of the story arcs.

Well my site is sponsored by DCBS so that is where I get comics as far as trades. Instocktrades.com is the place for me. Punisher War Journal not so good, but Ennis run on the regular Punisher title is still solid, well it' a little like his Preacher run, but solid nonetheless.

Booster Gold was pure goodness for fans of the JLI 80s series and fans of Booster Gold too. I really enjoyed that book. Wolverine Origins is probably the biggest smack to the face for fans of the character and goes to show that anyone can write comics in this industry of today.

i want to check out Booster Gold but I'm soooooooooo far behind any thing current in the DCU, i'm only now reading 52. i dont keep up with any except for the green latern corps\sinestro corps war and the last few JSA issues which i'm reading only for the kingdom come superman's intro into regluar continuity. earth-22 would be my favorite i suppose. i'd like to see red robin, he was one of my fav Kingdom Come characters. i don't even know any of the rest of the multiverse or how it breaks down.

joe Q is awesome. from his art to his direction for marvel since taking over and his delivering of pizza in goofy movies, i have always loved joe Q. one of of my all time fav books was an origin issue of X-O Manowar he did like a million years ago. it was super duper. do send that link, though.

a book store down the road had some TPBs for cheap. i grabbed a bunch of EX Machina stuff. never read it before. its excellent. i read them twice in one afternoon.

WWHULK:X-MEN was a huge let down. BOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The Last Fantastic Four Story was okay. it gets a B+ for effort. that being said, JRJR should DEFINTELY pencil FF's reg title, like starting NOW. his Thing is so like Kirby, its awesome.
