I'm in luck - we've rescheduled derby practice this week in order to get some time in on "sport court" surface, so I'll be skating during Raw tonight instead of watching some inside joke regarding Charlie Haas that's hilarious to those backstage, but dumbfoundingly droll to viewers at home.

EDIT: Any of y'all live near Philly? I'll be there all weekend, and would love to share a drink with anyone in the area.

Ha.

Well, I got me a 32in Plasma from Vizio Friday, so I am going to watch my first RAW in HD.

BTW, anyone have any good ideas for a cheap way to record HD broadcasts? I'm thinking about a USB tuner for my PC but I have heard some people say that those can't receive HD signals. I ain't down with Tivo at all.
What was the Charlie Haas joke, anyway?
I think it was a rib on McMahon, who at some point said he'd rather watch paint dry than watch Haas wrestle. So the writers put the two in a segment together, I suppose, to get under McMahon's skin.

Ha ha?
At least five or six people had a good laugh, right?
And we got to see an 80 year old woman sexually harrass a man. Fun for the whole family.
He doesn't ride his father's thunder, though; he's bottom-tier in WWE.
Yeah...in the WWE and only because nobody knows who Carlos Colón is outside of Puerto Rico.

Back in World Wrestling Council (his daddy's federation), he a 11 WWC Universal Heavyweight Champion.

New J.R blog

My friend Bruno Lauer’s new book, "Wrestling with the Truth", is available now at www.1wrestlinglegends.com and is a book that I certainly would suggest that you check out. I read some of this one while Bruno aka Harvey Whippleman was writing it and it was not only funny as hell but shockingly honest especially for a book written by a wrestler. The last two wrestling books I have read, authored by two Canadians, ironically enough, by Bret Hart and Chris Jericho were both written honestly and no holds barred which I greatly admire. Time will tell but the WWE may have missed the boat on a nice publishing opportunity with Bruno’s book. Who’s to say some enterprising Hollywood type won’t read Lauer’s book and discover that it might make for a viable comedy on TV or the big screen. My congratulations to Bruno for his diligence and hard work putting his wrestling experiences on paper and if you want to read about the business from one who has traveled the roads and experienced every level of success and challenge, then this is the book for you. Again, I don’t make a habit of recommending every book that comes along but not only do I suggest that you buy this one but I am happy to make this suggestion because everyone doesn’t have to be a main event superstar to tell a compelling and true story of their career and provide a unique perspective of the business. Buy the book.

I never inferred that the WWE should make the ROH a developmental territory for you conspiracy theorists who would rather jerk your knees, I’m being family friendly here, and look at your proverbial glasses as half empty. I was simply suggesting that the WWE should consider subsidizing ROH and leaving ROH alone to run their business as they see fit but because ROH is doing such a great job in developing young talent that it makes sense for them to continue to grow. Young wrestlers who master their in ring skills become viable candidates for WWE roster spots which in turn can evolve into big money.

So many titles and so little time. Which title match at the June 29 WWE Night of Champions pay per view will be sucking ‘hind teat as the old expression goes as it relates to not having ample time to tell a viable story? Perhaps this event will be more to this old schooler’s liking and be heavier on wrestling, physicality, and action than it will be on talking and talking and talking.

Yours truly looks forward to seeing old friend Michael Hayes return to work with the WWE which I understand might be this Monday in Salt Lake City for the live Monday Night Raw. As reported on many websites over the past several weeks, Michael made a mistake and a terrible error in judgment that has cost him severely. Sitting home for 60 days without pay and being demoted and losing current and future income are appropriate and significant punishments. Michael’s problem, in my personal opinion, are manifested and enhanced by one evil and that is abuse of alcohol. My paternal Grandfather was two different people, a loving, supportive "Grandad" when he was sober who attended many of my athletic contests and a mean spirited, embarrassing, foul mouthed person I did not care to be around when he was drinking which, unfortunately, was more often than I choose to remember. This particular matter came to a head when he rolled into our front yard one Saturday afternoon with a buddy who was also drunk and obnoxious while my Dad and I were doing lawn duty. The two of them thought they would "show off" when my Grandfather challenged me to a "wrestling match" knowing I was a big wrestling fan. My Dad gave me the nod that I had better defend myself and I reluctantly did and the physicality ensued. This ended up with my Granddad unfortunately sustaining broken ribs by his 15 year old grandson which is obviously not one of my fondest or proudest childhood memories. I have never shared this story with many people before now. My Granddad’s friend attempted to do the proverbial "run in" and "save" his drinking buddy until my 6′3"-270 lb. father backhanded him with Dad’s massive left hand. It was not a good weekend on the Ross farm but it taught me a great lesson of how destructive the abuse of alcohol can be. It is my understanding that Michael has received counseling for his alcohol issues which I am truly thankful to hear. Whether Michael works for the WWE for one more day or one more decade, I am more concerned that he defeats his demons and lives a long, healthy life. Financially and from a personal perspective, Michael Hayes has been hit deservedly hard but this unfortunate situation can be made into a positive one at the end of the day if Hayes learns from his mistakes and begins his daily battle to restrain from drinking. On a personal level, I am happy that Michael Hayes is being given another chance, Lord knows I have had second chances in life, and now it is up to him to make it work. I sure as hell hope that he does and will be there to help him in any way that I can. This entire, unfortunate experience may have saved the former Freebird’s life.

Cauliflower Alley notes…

Ronnie Garvin, who believe it or not I never got to speak with in Vegas, looked like he could step back in the ring today and be the bad-ass that he always was. The licenced pilot was $2 steak tough and his NWA Title Bouts with Ric Flair separated the men from the boys. Few men in the business today compete with that level of intensity. It’s called heart and passion, for the record.

J.J. Dillon was the MC for the CAC Banquet and did a super job and told some great jokes especially one about our old pal Terry Funk. J.J. is a corrections officer in Delaware but still makes many wrestling reunions and can tell a great story. Dillon just had one of his knees replaced and seems to be moving around well even though I kidded the shorts wearing, former leader of the Horseman that J.J. needed to "work on his tan".

I did not instantly recognize Bob Roop but the former AAU Champion who graduated from college….important point for any "wrestler to be"….from Southern Illinois is now teaching special education in a school near Lansing, Michigan. I really enjoyed catching up with Roop who I met MANY years ago when he worked for Bill Watts.

Terry Funk is still one of the most charismatic and insightful individuals in the wrestling business. I would love for Terry to be a "guest lecturer" in the WWE Developmental Program. We will have an autographed photo of Terry on our restaurant wall when we open our newest J.R.’s Family BBQ in Moore, Oklahoma. If there has been a better all around in ring talent in this business as far as being a good guy, bad guy, talker, wrestler, brawler, etc than Terry Funk I have yet to meet the gentleman. We had a long talk about the state of the business and even reminisced about the famous "I Quit" match Terry had with Ric Flair that featured manager Gary Hart and my broadcasting partner Gordon Solie that aired on TBS in 1989 and has been featured on WWE 24/7. That match was one of my most memorable moments in the business.

It was also nice seeing veterans like former Gulf Coast Wrestling star Cowboy Bob Kelly, the King of the Redneck Riviera, Al Friend and Omar Atlas who both worked a great deal in Kansas City back in the day among other areas. Bruce Swayze looked great and lives in Tennessee on a farm near "Hillbilly" Jim, not yours truly but the former WWE Superstar, and the entertaining Paul "Butcher" Vachon whose speech was unfortunately cut short as the time clock got him but not before he updated us all that his brother Maddog Vachon had just successfully undergone knee replacement surgery that day.

The refereeing, Atlanta based McGowan family was present including patriarch Charlie, son Scrappy and Scrappy’s son who is a ref as well.

Funny note…. some folks from Oklahoma drove to Vegas from eastern Oklahoma, Tahlequah to be exact, and I saw them at the CAC, talked a little about their wrestling aspirations, and then saw them again in our Norman restaurant on Friday on their drive back from Vegas home.

Someone at the CAC Reunion told me that Larry Zybszko was spending his time between the occasion in ring appearance living in Florida playing golf, on line poker, tanning and working out. Now that’s a life that appeals to ‘Ol J.R. I assure you. Paul Heyman by the way does an awesome Larry Z impersonation. Larry has a book out that is a short read as I understand it and I am anxious to give it a go. When I do I will let you know my thoughts as if it matters. Larry is a funny son of a gun with a natural gift of gab. I enjoyed working with Larry who was one of the most entertaining guys I have encountered in the business.

Since I have had a few days to sit and reflect on my extensive visit with two of wrestling’s greatest stars ever, Bret "The Hitman" Hart and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, I feel so blessed that I was able to listen to their take on today’s wrestling biz and their evaluations of certain talents, etc. Both these men will always have wrestling in their blood but their post wrestling careers are just as exciting as their days on the mat and both seem to approach their "after life" with the same work ethic and attention to detail as they did their matches. Bret said Steve was one of his all time favorite opponents and Austin has said the same thing about Hart. What I wouldn’t give for these two to headline just one more Wrestlemania but I guess I will have to wait until the Legend’s Video Game to book that match. I know this, I would love to produce a DVD featuring these two greats speaking about their careers, their wrestling influences, their battles with each other and their favorite bouts including matches that they were NOT a part of in their memorable careers.

I sincerely hope that many of you will consider joining the CAC and attending next year’s 44th Annual Reunion. I promise you that it is a wrestling fan’s dream.

It looks as if Salt Lake City will be a sold out event this Monday night for Raw. I think we will see a faster paced show with more wrestling even though watching Mr. McMahon attempt to dial a phone had its moments much akin to yours truly trying to learn how to use the iPod I got for Christmas from my oldest daughter and her husband which I still haven’t learned to use. :) Please feel free to make all the jokes you want about this subject especially for those who like to respond to this blog on other websites by using phony names and making wise-ass remarks about yours truly. I may deserve to verbally get my ass kicked occasionally but if this blog provides that much consternation to some why in the hell do they read it?

It looks as if the WWE Draft show on June 23 in San Antonio will be a sell out for the 3 hour live broadcast on the USA Network that starts at 8/7 central as I understand it. I know all three announce teams are required to be there which is interesting. Do you actually think any broadcasters will switch brands? I know at least two "talking heads" that hope they don’t change addresses.

My thanks to those of you that have visited our online store recently as business has been really consistent and continues to grow. We are looking into the possibility of distributing our sauces in plastic bottles which would reduce current, ridiculous, shipping charges. We also have received some interest from Circle K stores about stocking our Championship Original Beef Jerky which, if it happens, would be a huge deal for us.

Remember….it’s o.k. to get on "the sauce"….J.R.’s Bar-B-Q Sauce…as it promotes "wellness" and flavor. :)

Who is your provider and what box do you have? If it has Firewire on it then you might be in luck.
These burns on Cena are fucking awesome.
I loved the first crack when Trips said Cena's fans woudn't be be to see the match because it'd be too long past their bed times.

Yeah.

That's what I said.

As did I.

This match made me think of what an earlier post said about Carlito trying to get himself fired (referencing that HHH interview). Why not just purposely fail a drug test?

Shit, i'd let them put my phone number on public tv for 300k.

*edit*

WTF? of all the people to take out Cena & Triple H, they choose Lance Cade?! I really cant see why Vince would need to pay people a million a week to watch this show...

/sarcasm.
guess the 300k winner is going to have to change their phone #, nice one vince
I guess it's a good thing nobody watches RAW anyway, huh?

Juuust kidding.
WTF? of all the people to take out Cena & Triple H, they choose Lance Cade?!
I almost hate you for spoiling that for me, since I'm about 5 minutes behind on TiVo.

Pretty good Raw show tonight - far better than last week's show, which had a couple of good matches and a ton of unintentional comedy. Tonight had a really good Cena-Umaga match that helped keep Umaga over as a monster despite losing, as Cena had to constantly struggle to do anything to him. It was the same basic story as their previous 2 matches, but it still worked in this one (just as it did during Lawler-Kamala two decades ago).

Hardy-Carlito was Carlito's best match in months, but it felt like it was lacking something. It was perfectly fine most of the time, had some great moments (like Hardy falling off the ropes, into a twisting neckbreaker from Carlito), but fell flat in the end.

The mixed tag was perfectly fine - I loved the diving spear through the ropes, even if it was a waste to do it here and not on PPV, as it made the match somewhat memorable. They need to do something meaningful with Kennedy quick, because he's not gaining anything by feuding with Birchill, who the crowd barely cares about unless he's a pirate with cool-looking finisher. Speaking of which, can't they come up with something a little better for him now than a weak-looking neckbreaker? The Twisted Sister is a great name, but it doesn't fit that move at all - a roll of the dice-style move it would fit, but not that.

The main event was very good, and continued the trend of Jericho being in fantastic matches on PPV and on TV. These two haven't had a match in forever, so part of me thinks they should've waited and actually built this up a bit, but it was a great match, and at least attempted to get a new upper mid-card/main event-level heel in Cade (who desperately needs better tights if they're going to go forward with that plan). It also set up an obvious tag match next week with Cena and HHH facing Cade and Jericho, which would be a good test for Cade, as he'd get a main event spot on a show that wouldn't be built around him as a main eventer. The draft and giveaway will be the focus, and they've got nothing to lose by trying out a new guy in a main event slot.

The giveaway stuff tonight was better tonight, with highlights from the one guy who missed the guy, the guy with the DX theme ringtone, the chick who went absolutely nuts over Vince, J.R.'s reaction to her, and J.R. and the King bickering over salt lake being either a lake or a river, being capped off by J.R. just calling it a large body of water.

The tag title match's build was weaker this week than last, but hinted at Holly being the man to team with DiBiase, which does move the story forward. I'm surprised they didn't announce Jericho-HBK for the PPV since it is a night where all the belts will be defended and it is in under 2 weeks. I assume they'll do that next week, where they should hype the hell out of it.

Flair's appearance was an unexpected surprise, and a good one, as he was excellent on the mic. The segment with he and Jericho was a lot of fun to watch, aside from Jericho telling him softly to take the mic out of his hands when they got back on camera, and HHH being visible in a side door when Jericho went outside, killing the big reveal.

The Cena-Hunter stuff tonight was amusing, but didn't do much to make me want to see the match, must like WM 22's build - Hunter got in his wisecracks, knocked Cena's fanbase, knocked Cena's coordination, and then Cena got...nothing in return. Great, so if HHH wins, all he did was beat an uncoordinated guy whose big move is, as he said 2 years ago, just pumping up his Reeboks. Compelling shit.

Quotes -
Cena - For those of you just tuning in, it’s no secret that I love World Wrestling Entertainment. With the help of the fans, it provided the best entertainment that money can buy! The truly great thing in WWE is that once, in every great while, it provides moments, moments that transcend time, moments that every single one of you know when these moments happened. Think back to when Hogan first picked up Andre, when HBK’s boyhood dream FINALLY came true, I can guarantee everyone here knows where they were the first time Austin whooped ass. I don’t see an empty seat in this arena, sure, everyone’s excited about money, but they’re excited about THE MOMENT. In 2 weeks, at Night of Champions, we will create a moment. The champ is…(HHH comes out)
HHH - You’re right, Cena, it’s gonna be a moment that no one will forget. I’ve been trying to tell myself for the past couple of weeks that this isn’t personal, but I’m having a bit of trouble believing my own rap. Last week, you cost me a match with Jeff Hardy! I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt and I’m giving you a warning - I’m giving it to you once, there will not be a twice. You get in my business again, and this is gonna get real personal, real fast!
Cena - Wait a second, what’s good for the flock isn’t good for the champion? You attacked me a the announce table, and you get on me for attacking you?
HHH - First of all, no one told you to stand on it and pose like a prima donna. You’re so uncoordinated that you probably fell off the table before anyway.
Cena - Hhaha, the big dumb animal - I made you TAP out the last time we wrestled.
HHH - That was a long time ago, John. A lot has changed.
Cena - NOTHING HAS CHANGED, PEOPLE WERE TALKING ABOUT IT THEN, AND TWO WEEKS TO THE DAMN DAY, PEOPLE ARE STILL TALKING ABOUT US!
HHH - One thing has changed - I’M THE CHAMP.
Cena - You may have that, but until you beat me, you’re nothing!
HHH - You know, John, it’s gonna be a long tough night for you, because I know how you hate to let your fans down. But at least most of them won’t see it, because it’ll be on past their bedtimes anyway. Just to make things easier for ya, maybe we can get a kid to hand you his foam belt - ease the pain for ya a little bit.
Vince - WOAH WOAH, NO NO NO, UH HUH! NO NO NO, YOU TWO ARE NOT GONNA GO AT IT TONIGHT! You’re gonna compete at NoC for the WWE Championship - I’m in a generous mood - I’M GONNA GIVE AWAY A MILLION DOLLARS, HOW ABOUT SOME RESPECT!? The password is… Watch Raw and Win! Cena, are you gonna win your match tonight? You’re in one RIGHT NOW! Cena 1 on 1, with the Samoan Bulldozer UMAGA! And because I’m in an extra generous mood tonight, it’s gonna be a street fight!
HHH - Good luck John, don’t get hurt…
Vince - We’re getting some interference, must be because we’re next to Salt Lake.
J.R. - Yeah, blame it on the river.
Lawler - It’s a lake.
J.R. - Okay, lake. A large body of water.
Vince - Denzel, bark like a dog. (he barks lightly) Your dog has laryngitis.
(clip airs of Hass being molested last week)J.R. - The Girls of AARP Gone Wild.
Haas - That isn’t entertaining, but this is - it’s time for the beach bikini blowout BOOYAH BOOYAH BOOYAH!
J.R. - Boy needs some decaf.
Lawler - Leena Yada.
J.R. - Lena Yada - am I working with Adamle?
(to caller)Vince - 704...that’s a North Carolina area code isn’t it? Who was the most well-known man born in NC?
Guy - Ric Flair!
Vince - NO, NOT RIC FLAIR!
J.R. - Let’s take you back to last week, when Shawn Michaels’ guest was Chris Jericho!
J.R. - Wow, Duggan combed his hair! And his 2X4 has a tux!
Vince - Wow, you clean up pretty nice. If Ron Simmons was here, he’d say “DAMN!”
(a caller misses the call)Lawler - I hope Hacksaw isn’t a curse.
J.R. - Might be that snappy dialing music.
(DX ringtone plays)Vince - I like the ringtone. That’s a nice ringtone. We may have someone…
(after an Ohio caller wins)Lawler - EVERYONE IN OHIO WATCHES RAW!
(Jeff comes out)Lawler - This is one of the reasons everyone watches Raw!
Jericho - Over the past week, I’ve noticed a difference in how people treat me. They’re wondering “how’d you do what you did to HBK”? If you didn’t see what I did, you’re gonna see it right now. Here we are with deja vu all over again - once again, you boo an honest man. You insist on insulting me, and I’m done with it. That’s why what happened to Michaels wasn’t my fault, it was your fault. And your fault, and your fault When I came back to WWE, it was to save us, but you don’t want to be saved, you don’t deserve to be saved. It’s obvious you connect with a backstabbing hypocrite, so now, I’m here to save me. I’m still the hero and idol to millions, and still look at my face in the mirror every morning - can you? You’ve all changed by becoming morally corrupt, I don’t need you to cheer for me anymore, I don’t want you to cheer for me anymore, because your actions say it all. Michaels said to do what it takes to win, and when I did that, you turned on me! I didn’t do what I did to Shawn for personal reasons, but now, I’m punishing him for your sins! Shawn told the truth when he said the blood was on his hands, and now, his blood is on YOUR hands. Can you live with yourselves!? I bet you wish he’d come out and face me, don’t you? So do I, I want him to come out here right now, I DEMAND THAT HE COMES OUT HERE RIGHT NOW! HBK! HBK! COME ON MICHAELS, THEY’RE CHEERING FOR YA. THE LIARS THE CHEATERS, COME ON! Well, he’s not gonna come out here tonight, because he’s a coward, a pathetic excuse for human being… (Flair’s theme hits)
J.R. - OH MY GOD!
Lawler - NAITCH!
J.R. - THIS IS AN AMAZING MOMENT!
Jericho - Take the mic…(Flair takes the mic)
Flair - SHUT UP! YOU KNOW DAMN WELL SHAWN MICHAELS ISN’T HERE TONIGHT! I CAN’T WRESTLE ANYMORE, BUT THAT DOESN’T KEEP ME FROM FIGHTING YOU IN THE PARKING LOT! SO LET’S GO IN THE PARKING LOT NOW! COME ON! COME ON!
HHH - Don’t you think you’ve caused enough problems? You got glass in Shawn’s eye, and now you’re bothering the Naitch. Ever since you came back, I’ve been looking for a reasont o make you my business.
Jericho - So now you’re gonna be the knight in shiming…shining armor for him and fight his battles for him?
HHH - I’m not fighting anyone’s battles, I just wanna fight you!
Flair - I came back ‘cuz I love you!
Vince - You’re retired, but I can’t have you getting in the ring. I’m gonna have to ask these men to escort you out of my building. Give me a call, will ya, I’ll talk to ya, some time…next week.
HHH - What’s your problem?
Vince - I don’t have one. You’ve got a big problem with a match I’m gonna make - you, one on one, tonight, with Chris Jericho.
(on WWE Magazine)Lawler - I was surprised to learn that they were connected to the police department.
J.R. - Really?
Lawler - Yeah, with a set of handcuffs.
Vince - Sorry I had to throw Ric Flair out… OH COME ON, YOU’RE NOT GONNA BOO A BILLIONAIRE WHO’S GIVING AWAY A MILLION DOLLARS!
Vince - Since Ric Flair is a 16 time world champion, Becky, YOU’VE WON SIXTEEN DOLLARS! NOW YOU CAN BOO ME!
Lawler - I send a lot of e-mails to Mickie James.
J.R. - She ever reply?
J.R. - The self-proclaimed most famous man ever from Green Bay, Mr. Kennedy. Not Brett Favre.
Lawler - Kennedy, Kennedy with a boot, boot.
J.R. - The previous winner seemed somewhat underwhelmed with her winning $16, judging by her reaction.
Lawler - My reaction would have to be censored.
Vince - Who is this?
Alana - Alana.
Vince - This is Vince McMahon.
Alana - REALLY!? YOU’VE INSPIRED ME SO MUCH!
Vince - Really? Of all the WWE superstars, who is the most handsome you’ve seen?
Alana - YOU ARE THE MOST HANDSOME MAN I’VE EVER SEEN, SIR!
Vince - I LIKE YOUR TASTE IN MEN! THANK YOU, SIR!
J.R. - Congratulations, Alana. Go take your medicine.
J.R. - and the password is...
Vince - Since we had 75,000 people at WrestleMania, you’ve won $75,000!
J.R. - Don’t forget to pay your taxes.
Cena - I‘m gonna tell you the same thing you told me - good luck and don’t get hurt.
J.R. - $300,000 coming up - that’s big mug!
Vince - I don’t know how long I’m gonna give away $1 million, but I’m gonna do it next week as well! Raw starts an hour early for a special 3 hour Raw next week!
Lawler - $300,000 going down now…I think I gotta give my notice.
(in a feminine voice)Frank - Vince, I love ya!
Vince - EVERYBODY LOVES VINCE MCMAHON! LET’S HEAR IT FOR VINCE MCMAHON!
J.R. - PIP PIP!
Vince - NO ONE FROM SALT LAKE WON ANY MONEY, TONIGHT! (Crowd boos)
J.R. - That’s a Bada Bing moment for Frank!
(Cade comes out, WITH CADE ON HIS TIGHTS)Lawler - WHO’S THIS!?
J.R. - THE GAME AND THE NUMBER 1 CONTENDER ARE GETTING IT ON!
J.R. - Who’d have thought that the WWE Champion and the number 1 contender would spend more time on canvas than Rembrandt?

:D maybe they'll get a dozen calls or so, heck I barely tuned into Raw and saw that ... was tempted to call the guy... to, um, congratulate him:whee:

For some reason, I get the feeling that they may have Cade as Ted jr's partner and forming the youngsters group with Y2J as the head.
What other reason could Cade have been out there for?

...Lance fucking Cade? Seriously? Mr. "In A Match Taped For Heat"?

God, I hope Lance Cade's new gimmick is showing up whenever no one expects him. He could be like Ron Simmons - completely pointless and unnecessary, but still mildly amusing in the same way a Funaki match is. His new catch phrase should be "I'm still here",not in the "I've taken everything you've got" way, but in the "I've had 37 chances to get over, and I've still got a job" way.

Screw you, Lance Cade. No one's given a crap about you for the past 8 years, and we're not going to start now. Steve Austin called your debut match "boring", you were briefly aligned with both Coachman and fucking Maven, and the highlight of your career has been holding the Tag Team titles when there were four teams on the entire roster. Start wrestling under your real name and live up to what you bring to wrestling, McNaught.

His lineage definitely helped him get hired. Granted, being the Universal champion of an island isn't exactly prestigious but considering how many times he held it plus Carlos' connections, he had an inside track.

I'd assume Cade was because HBK trained him. I don't see much in Cade right now, but who knows. I'd love to see Flair take Batista, Jericho, and Cade and make a new group (not a Horsemen group though) and see how that does. It'd be interesting until Trips destroyed them all in one match with his arms and legs hogtied together.

New J.R Blog

The WWE had an awesome crowd in Salt Lake City, arguably the hottest crowd of the year, for Monday Night Raw. The fans in the arena can make or break a show with their enthusiasm or lack thereof. I’ve always thought when all is said and done that it’s up to the promotion to provide the fans with an exciting product which normally leads to the desired crowd reaction. Plus the WWE not having been to SLC in such a long time did not hurt things either. Great job Salt Lake City and thanks for making being in the E Center Monday night a helluva good time.

I read on the ‘net where someone was wondering why Ric Flair was sweating so profusely Monday night. A..it was 90 degrees in SLC Monday (Naitch wasn’t the only one sweating wearing a suit) and the arena was hotter than hell and B…Flair is a habitual sweater from way back. Remember those old Crockett and TBS days? Nonetheless "Naitch" looked to be in really great physical condition and continues to work out diligently. He indicated to me that he was on the road 19 days last month, which is a busy month of travel, but that he usually gets to be home on the weekends. Ric loves his "Ambassador" role as Ric does exceptionally well at private functions where he can converse with corporate types. There are no plans for Ric to wrestle again but I liked seeing him on Raw even though one can argue that by promoting his appearance that it might have helped increase interest in the broadcast. Hindsight is usually 20/20 and reasonable arguments can be certainly made that the return of the legendary Flair could have been handled with more fanfare and impact.

Chris Jericho has arguably been, at least, the verbal star of Monday Night Raw the past couple of weeks. Nice illustration that one doesn’t have to yell to make one’s point while executing a big time promo. It’s hard to fathom producing Raw in San Antonio without HBK but that might be the case this coming Monday in Shawn’s hometown thanks to this to Michaels issue with Jericho specifically the HBK eye matter. In the old days none of us would see the injured individual for several weeks to allow the personal issue to evolve which most likely means Shawn Michaels will on Raw from his hometown Monday night. Does any one remember the Freebird-JYD "blinding" issue of yesteryear? By the way, JYD’s been gone now for a little over a decade if my memory serves me correctly. That just doesn’t seem possible.

There are seemingly endless questions regarding the format of this Monday’s tri-branded, WWE Draft. What brand drafts first….will this be a random lottery drawing….what happens if a champion IE Matt Hardy who is the reigning United States Championship which appears to be a Smackdown title is drafted to Raw? Does the wrestler leave the title behind or does the title come to a new brand? I know that these types of things have occurred in the past but is there a hard, fast rule on matters such as this here in 2008? Will there be trades as there has been before? Who will represent Raw which has no General Manager?

Nice seeing Cryme Tyme and the World Tag Team Champions Monday night….for all of what, 8 seconds? Thanks for coming fellas.

Regarding the conclusion of Raw Monday night, lots of folks are wondering, why Lance Cade? Why did Cade insert himself in the main event mix near the end of Raw? I suggest, why not? The only way new wrestlers are going to rise to the next level is for them to step in the deep in of the pool and either sink or swim. Any TV presentation can always been over analyzed and sometimes certainly for the better but I like the fact that, philosophically, someone new is getting a chance to perform with the big boys. The key to this matter will be the follow up come Monday night. Hearing from a passionate Cade would be a nice start.

Bottom line here is this…no wrestling promotion has any bigger or more important challenge than developing tomorrow’s main event stars. For example, who will headline the next Wrestlemania is always a viable question. Not just in 2009 but the year after than and so forth. Long term planning is crucial to the success of any business including a wrestling business.

For those of you keeping tabs on things such as this, it took yours truly, thanks to Mother Nature and good ‘Ol American Airlines, 10 hours to get home Tuesday from Utah. Let’s hope I get to New York without any issues this Thursday for the taping of two WWE 24/7 Legend Roundtables. Between JBL, Mick Foley, Flair and yours truly our host Mean Gene Okerlund should have no problem hosting some entertaining and sure to be controversial programming. I have to do some home work on some of the greatest factions/groups in wrestling (I can freely say "wrestling" on this blog) and the most important moments in wrestling’s history. That last topic really covers a lot of ground and is very subjective. This taping has the chance to be one of the best WWE 24/7 offerings yet. I can’t wait to "debate" my fellow panelists.

I thought the money give away on Raw was a much better presentation this week but, as usual, I would love to have seen more wrestling. Call me crazy but I still think fans tune in on Monday night’s to see people compete against each other, whip some ass, have some compelling, wrestling bouts and do things athletically that can’t be seen on any other program on TV. I like to see lovely ladies in bikinis as much as the next guy, I might be on a diet but I can damn sure still look at the menu, but was Monday night the right place for the out-of-the-blue "fashion show"? Perhaps it was but I would have enjoyed more physicality and longer wrestling matches but that’s just me.

Monday it was nice to see the sparkle in Harvey Whippleman aka Bruno Lauer’s eyes when he talked about actually getting his new book published. The big time wrestling stars usually get all the accolades and glory (and certainly the bulk of the money) but it is nice to see someone who has traveled many of the same miles if not more for a whole helluva lot less money be able to tell their story from an entirely different perspective. "Wrestling with the Truth" is damn sure a honest account of one man’s long and interesting wrestling career even though it may not make Bruno (who used to live in Jerry Lawler’s back yard in a shed with no plumbing) overly popular with everyone mentioned in this new publication.

Mark this down on your calendar if you are in the Long Island/NYC/New Jersey/Connecticut area the night before the Great American Bash at the Nassau Coliseum as Jerry Lawler, Mick Foley and I will be appearing at a signing on Saturday July 19 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at Franklin Square Video located at 984 Hemstead Turnpike, Franklin Square, N.Y. 11010. I have not done too many appearances ever and I have never done one that I can recall with The King and Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy. I hope you will find the time to drop by and say hello.

Speaking of Mick Foley, his old pal Al Snow was seen at J.R.’s Family BBQ in Norman, Oklahoma Saturday while in OKC for a wrestling event. I did some TV color with Al in Smoky Mountain Wrestling way back in the day and he was really entertaining. Good guy too. But that Avatar character…..

Is it just me or does any one else think that the UFC pays WAY too much attention to the fledgling MMA groups out there? The UFC is the NFL of MMA but there will always be a place for the small "Arena Football League" groups that will only serve as a feeder system to the UFC from where I sit.

Los Angeles Laker fans will be hard pressed to live their dream this season of winning another NBA Title with Boston needing only to split at home to win it all. Isn’t it ironic that no matter the level of hoops that at the end of the day more often than not it comes down to home court advantage and free throw shooting that decides many games? I knew Celtics’ coach Doc Rivers when he played for the Atlanta Hawks and when I had courtside seats courtesy of TBS’ Ted Turner and Doc was a helluva good, down to earth guy then and still seems to be the same today.

It is coincidental when incidents occur with athletes and entertainers(pro wrestling has its share lately too) that these knucklehead moves usually happen after midnight? I know that this point has been made in this space before but when will the offenders and their keepers get it? If one is going to party after midnight use common sense…please. Why young wrestlers hoping to make it to prime time continue to make these same mistakes over and over are beyond me.

I have been DVR’ing AM RAW and using it for show prep for Monday nights and I have to say the one hour version of Monday Night Raw is a quick, fun show to watch. Some times I watch it live as I am a night person who watches NBC’s Poker After Dark virtually every night it is on so staying up until 1 a.m. central isn’t that challenging. for the record, in another life I would like to be a profession poker player….or domino player. :)

Our new restaurant in Moore, Oklahoma is really looking awesome. This place is going to be super for any wrestling fan to visit. Our memorabilia there rivals our original store in Norman and we have so much new wrestling, football, Mickey Mantle, and John Wayne swag for the Moore store it has to be seen to be believed. Of course, swag is nice but one doesn’t eat swag but never fear the food will remain kick ass I assure you. We hope to open after the 4th of July and I will keep you apprised.

Remember "sauce is good" but only if it is J.R.’s Bar-B-Q Sauce. Try some today in our online store and don’t forget to order some delicious beef jerky which is 97% fat free. Thanks.

I remember Lex Luger collapsing at a convention last fall but never heard anything else about it.. apparently he's paralyzed in both arms and both legs. I'm probably completely late on this, but I never heard about it.

http://www.ajc.com/services/content...pherd_center.html?cxtype=rss&cxsvc=7&cxcat=13

Lex Luger was "The Total Package," a buff 6-foot-4, 270-lb. professional wrestler who made $5 million a year while helping to fill arenas throughout the world.
These days, he can barely walk, tips the scales around 185 lbs. and lives in a one-bedroom apartment across the street from the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, where's he undergoing therapy.

A severe spinal injury from 30 years of football and wrestling struck down Luger while on a cross-country flight last fall. He spent two weeks in intensive care at Stanford University Hospital in California before transferring to Shepherd in November. He's also still hobbled by double hip replacement surgery in February.

"I was one of the strongest guys on the planet," Luger said recently. "I was freaky strong before. I was bench-pressing 450 pounds my senior year of high school. I was a freak. Now I can't lift a one-pound dumbbell.

"But God tells me that mind, body and spirit and what we are as a man is measured not by our physical strength, but our inner strength."

Luger, whose real name is Lawrence Pfohl, now takes great pride in each day's small victories. Things like getting showered and shaved on his own in only 30 minutes or standing a little bit more each day. Things like trying to gradually make full amends with estranged family members he took for granted over the years, including his 17- and 21-year-old children.

The new and humbled Lex Luger is a man of strong religious conviction whose faith has helped him remain mostly upbeat.

Luger has taken it upon himself to minister to young patients at the Shepherd Center, often telling them his story of widespread abuse of drugs, steroids and alcohol at the expense of his family and health.

Luger believes he was meant to lift their spirits and give personal testimony to the importance of doing things the right way.

Life hasn't been easy for MaryAnn Collins and her family from Alabama since Steve, her 23-year-old son, broke his neck during an automobile accident in March and became a quadriplegic. But getting to know the former professional wrestler has helped.

"No matter what," MaryAnn Collins said, "when Lex comes, he makes him laugh. Just his visits brighten his day. We're lucky to have a friend like Lex."

Luger once known as 'The Narcissist'

It's a role never envisioned by those who knew Luger before.

"He used to be on the other end of the scale, as far as helping people," said close friend Steve Borden, the professional wrestler better known as "Sting."
"He was known as 'The Narcissist.' His comfort was first and foremost. If he had still been that way when this happened, he'd probably be dead right now because he probably would have just given up."

Luger, 50, was on a flight to San Francisco in late October when he began having difficulty moving his neck. Thinking it was simply a case of having sat in an awkward position for too much of the cross-country flight, he tried to jar his neck back into place, only to make his predicament worse.

Luger arrived in San Francisco in considerable pain, but was still able to function. He awoke the next morning, however, paralyzed from the neck down and unable to even call for help. A desperate Luger maneuvered onto the hotel room floor, where he remained for more than four hours.

Doctors at Stanford University Hospital noted massive swelling of his spine from the C6 to T5 vertebrae, attributing the damage to the many disc injuries and bone spurs he'd collected during three decades of football and professional wrestling.

Doctors have told Luger that previous substance abuse problems had nothing to do with his spinal trauma.

Luger remained a complete quadriplegic for more than two months, without as much as bladder or bowel control when he was transferred to the Shepherd Center in early November.

Doctors have told him the swelling usually takes about six months to recede, but it's unclear how much function he will regain. Luger has gradually improved. He can now stand on his own for brief periods and uses a walker at times.
Motor and other finger skills are usually the last functions to come back with his particular injuries. A complete recovery is a "long shot," said Dr. Gerald Bilsky, Luger's physician and Sheperd's medical director for outpatient services.

In the meantime, Luger has had to re-learn even the most elementary functions, such as going to the bathroom and how to feed and dress himself.

"You just have to rehab every day and take great blessings with what you do have back," Luger said. "Rehab and try to make what you have stronger. It's up to the Lord to do the rest."

Luger has improved enough to be released from the Shepherd Center in mid-March, but he can be found at the facility every day.

He hopes that recounting his story to patients and their families will help spare others his mistakes.

Luger's self-destructive lifestyle played a role in the death of Elizabeth Hulette, his girlfriend and former wrestling personality known as "Miss Elizabeth." Hulette died of an accidental drug overdose in 2003 in the Cobb County home the two shared.

Luger was charged with 13 counts of felony drug possession after authorities searched the home and found steroids and other body-building drugs, as well as pain medication and anti-anxiety drugs. He later served two months in the Cobb County jail starting in late 2005 after violating probation.

It was while incarcerated that he gave his life to Christ.

Luger now lives in a one-bedroom apartment across the street from the Shepherd Center, complete with a couple of air mattresses for guests.
And he's OK with it.

"I've never been stronger or richer in spirit or as a man as I am right now," Luger said.

Doing hard time?

He has mobility back, just not full functionality. My friend saw him at a Verizon store late last year and Lex could barely hobble in and out of the store. Personally, I think the guy is amazing. He could easily be bitter like Dynamite Kid but he's not. His main concern now is helping others. Better late than never.

Yeah, I agree. Luger could be taking the "why me?" route, but seems to be making the best of his bad situation. Here is a guy who was making mad money during the MNW and now lives in a 1 bed room apartment? I can't say I'd have his upbeat attitude.

What does Commissioner Winwood's rise to power have to do with Life During Wartime, which, on Sunday, July 6, 2008, in Reseda, CA, will celebrate five years of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla? Well, while Dino Winwood's rise to the top has been based on a series of lucky breaks (some in part to large payouts from shady apartment wrestling videographers), Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's rise has not been quite that easy. The past five years have been an uphill battle for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, one that, we're glad to report, the company has been able to survive. By the skin of its figurative teeth, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has dug out a niche and fortified its position as an alternative to what is widely available to fans of professional wrestling. From that niche, the company has seen tremendous growth in each year of its existence, and despite the fact that the company may seem different from where it began almost five years ago, the core group involved in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla would like to think that, inwardly, the very same goals and unconventional sensibilities that Pro Wrestling Guerrilla was founded on remain to this day. While the uphill battle may never end for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, lasting this long can surely be taken as a good sign.

But wait, what does Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Winwood's Rainbow Sherbet Street to the top and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Rocky Road of survival have to do with Life During Wartime, which, on Sunday, July 6, 2008, in Reseda, CA, will celebrate five years of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla? Well, both Dino Winwood and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's success would not be possible without you, the fans. While some of you have been there since the beginning, and others have just recently discovered Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, nothing that this company has accomplished would have happened if it weren't for you. Part of our unconventional sensibilities tell us that our fans are smart enough to know when they're being pandered to, so we try not to do it. That is why, on this occasion, we hope you believe that everyone involved in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla would like to say thanks for supporting us for the past five years, and hopefully we'll be around at least another 6 months, to pay off all this office equipment we got from Rent-A-Center.

We hope that your life during wartime, that is to say, life during Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's existence, has been as successful as ours, but if it hasn't, hey, maybe a wrestling show will turn things around for you.

Well, she's the sister of a friend, but we are friendly, so I say "friend".

You're welcome.

Okay Impact this week, although it felt a little flat compared to last week's show. The world title match build for tonight's Impact was sparse and not particularly well done. They built up Nash-Joe very well, but Booker-Joe is the match that they're supposed to be pimping, and tonight, it came off as an afterthought.

The emphasis on the X division was nice, but it felt like it was just done for the sake of being able to say that they did it instead of an honest effort to try and make the division look like a big deal. The team TNA-team International match was good, but paled in comparison to last week's X cup preview match, which could surpass anything else this tournament delivers.

Speaking of the tourney format, they had Tenay go over WAY too much shit during the match. He covered what the X cup was, the points system, the week-to-week breakdown, the histories of everyone in the match in relation to the X cup and it was just mind-boggling to attempt to keep track of any of it. A pre-match video package would've worked far better, as this stuff really took away from the match. Aside from that long spiel from Tenay, the announcers were fairly sublime for most of the first hour, then they did that 3D attack on Rhino with 3D mocking J.R. and Christian saying "welcome to TNA" at all the insane shit that was going on.

The stuff at the Pink Taco was fairly well-executed, although I'm not sure why Lethal was so calm when Dutt entered, or why Lethal was the first person we saw on Impact given that this Pink Taco brawl was only mentioned in passing once on last week's show. AJ attacking Trigg would've been a better opening given that it was directly involved in the main event of tonight's show. I was also disappointed that the SPEAR THROUGH A STEEL DOOR wasn't shown or mentioned again during the show - it was the payoff to the show-long build to the Dutt-Lethal showdown, and was rendered basically meaningless by not being shown again.

Kaz-Koslov was fine, but nothing special. TNA's fallen back into the trap of having essentially nothing planned for Kaz after he "TAKES 'EM TO THE LIMIT" (wow, he can almost beat a main eventer - WHAT A STAR HE IS!). Unless he actually beats a main event guy, that billing really doesn't mean much, and as Lethal has shown, even if you do beat a main eventer, it's basically meaningless if you're an X division wrestler because you're just going to go right back down the card afterwards.

I liked the Gail Kim video - it did a great job of covering her early days, and by having a few people talk about her, it actually made the segment seem important. It was a pleasant change of pace from the Sting interviews, which accomplished basically nothing. The Morgan video was nice, and did a good job of establishing his athletic background along with some personal history, but it felt a little flat. Perhaps doing two very similar video packages on one show was a bad idea, but I think they could've helped the Morgan one by not cutting it so short - it was rolling along nicely, and then it just came to an abrupt end without him mentioning anything about wrestling.

The stuff with LAX was feud-building but not particularly compelling. I just love that they hype the blowoff to as so convoluted you need to check their site to read all the intricacies to the stipulation. Impact is a TWO HOUR SHOW, just say what the entire stipulation is on the show.

For Christ's sake, TNA, it's Storm and Roode versus LAX - no person on Earth is going to check your site just to find out the stips attached to this, and given that Cornette's existing rant explaining the rules took a minute, I shudder to think about how much more convoluted it could get. It's just a mid-card tag title feud for a "B"-rate PPV - it doesn't need any stips attached to it, but I do commend TNA for trying to logically add one (in this case, using the fan being stripped of his belt as a way to explain fans being able to whip Storm and Roode with belts).

The main event was good-ish, but not memorable aside from AJ avoiding the 3D with the Pele kick. The post-show beating by Kurt was okay - there was nothing particularly wrong with it, it just felt like a retread of Angle doing the extended ankle lock bit last week. They're putting a lot of air time into this program, and I've got mixed feelings about it. I'm glad to see AJ back in a main event spot, but they're pushing this program above their own world title program, which SHOULD be the most important thing going on in the company. Instead, this feud, the X cup, and even Salinas-Jaquline got more airtime than the world champion and his top contender. Just two months ago they made the TNA World title seem meaningful with Angle-Joe at Lockdown, and now it's right back to where it was before - a largely meaningless championship that only seems to exist to further a plotline.

With all that said, I did like that the announcers actually spoke like human beings for half the show - it wasn't wall to wall yelling and screaming like it usually is, and that helped at making things easier to follow. This show actually had a very slow, leisurely pace to it for a little while, and then they tried to cram a ton of stuff into it at once (like having AJ attack Tomko in the back while airing some other match in a split screen) that took the emphasis away from the match, and then having the announcers just talk about the Angle-Styles situation instead of talking about the match at hand, which further made the bout seem meaningless. It reminded me of Nitro, where the cruisers could have an awesome match, and the announce team would just blow their match off to talk about the main eventers.

I've also got mixed feelings about the Kong challenge this week - on one hand, Kong being beaten up so much works because Kong does at some point have to lose to a fan, but on the other, Kong rarely gets beaten down by anyone, and the idea of a fan doing it sort of hurts Kong. The use of the chair was also a bit odd, as the ref did nothing to take it away, nor did he DQ the fan for using the chair. A simple ADR line about the contract stipulating that all bouts are no DQ would've sufficed here, but they didn't even bother to do that. I hope TNA has signed the "fan" tonight to a deal, otherwise, having her get this much offense off on Kong was a bit of a mistake.

Quotes -
Lethal - SONJAY, I’M AT THE PINK TACO, WHERE YOU THREW MY BACHELOR PARTY! IT’S GONNA GET REAL TIKI GONZO IN HERE! TONIGHT, YOU’RE NEVER GONNA FORGET THIS PARTY!
Ad Guy - Last week, the issues between Kurt and Karen reached a critical mass, and the world X cup got started!
DW - As BG James comes down the ramp, there are SO MANY QUESTIONS REGARDING JOE AND NASH!
DW - What about Joe giving Booker T his locker room key?
Tenay - I think it’s just as simple as Joe wanting to show that he doesn’t need the first-class accommodations that Booker T was complaining about - he’s just one of the guys.
DW - So basically, he’s just like us!
(Nash enters)Joe - Hey, it’s the great and powerful Oz - here to impart his wisdom about wrestling!
Nash - Nice locker room trade up - you trade it to Booker for 5 magic beans?
Nash - Unlike you, I’ve beaten Booker T.
Joe - When? 10? 15 years ago? You didn’t beat the Booker of today! Until you go out there and prove to me that you can beat Booker T, everything you say is bullshit!
Nash - Okay, and I’ll show you how a veteran makes this a mental, and not a physical game.
Tenay - The point system for the X cup is very simple - there’s 1 point for a win in week 1, 2 points for team 2, 3 points for week 3, and for the fourth round, the ultimate X - 4 points!
DW - Karen, YOU HAVE TO BE SCARRED FOR LIFE - you’re not a wrestler, you’re a mother of 2 children.
Karen - I did nothing wrong.
Tenay - NOTHING WRONG!? What about AJ and all the FROLICKING AROUND!
Karen - THERE’S NOTHING GOING ON WITH ME AND AJ!
Tenay - Okay, I’m sorry for insinuating anything.
Cornette - Ladies and gentlemen, after watching last week’s program, a very unique challenge has been issues. Let’s bring out the team who issued it - LAX! Hector, everyone knows what happened - Roode, Storm, and Jaqueline whipped ya like dogs. Storm stole a belt off an LAX fan, and after that happened, you were very specific with your challenge. Folks can go to TNAWrestling.com for the entire challenge, but the gist of it is a fans’ revenge lumberjack. We pick 12 of the TNA fans, we put all 12 of ‘em around the ring, give them a BIG, LONG, THICK leather strap, and if anyone leaves the ring, the fans have legal license to whip the bejeezus out of them until they get into the ring!
Hector - I wanna direct myself to you Roode, Storm, and you Jacqueline! You know, LAX and I have not forgotten what you cowards tried do to us, all you did was wake up the Latino fire! OH YAY! (he then rants in Spanish)
Cornette - I JUST HOPE EVERYTHING YOU SAID IS CLEAN!
Hector - VERY CLEAN! (Jaqueline comes out, LAX rushes her)
Cornette - MEN ARE NOT GONNA TOUCH WOMEN ON SPIKE TV! EVEN IF THEY DO DESERVE IT!
Cornette - Where are Roode and Storm!?
Jacqueline - What am I? A BABYSITTER! One of ‘em’s a drunk and the other’s makin’ money! What you looking at? Those are fake, these are real!
Cornette - Tonight, it’s gonna be Jaqueline versus Salinas! IT’S NOT GONNA BE MANO-E-MANO, IT’S GONNA WOMANO-E-WOMANO!
DW - Taylor goes right on the aggressive!
DW - Obviously Taylor has a wrestling background - she’s confident!
DW - NOW WHAT’S GOING ON THROUGH A TABLE!
Ray - MY GOD, 3D THROUGH A TABLE! MY GOD! NO ONE GETS UP FROM THAT! MY GOD! RHINO’S DONE! MY GOD!
Tenay - IT LOOKS LIKE THEY’VE ELIMINATED RHINO FROM OUR IMPACT MAIN EVENT!
Dutt - Why would Black Machismo want to fight me?
JB - ARE YOU KIDDING ME? YOU ATTACKED HIM FROM BEHIND AND HIT HIM WITH ONE OF THOSE GIANT WEDDING COLUMNS!
DW - Koslov puts the hand up… AND KAZ STOPS!
DW - Kaz’s match in the steel asylum was something spectacular!
Tenay - There’s the Russian Cossack dance…AND HE KICKS KAZ IN THE HEAD WITH EVERY STEP!
DW - THAT’S INNOVATIVE!
Cage Leave your buddy alone for 5 minutes and then you find him in a pile of lumber - welcome to TNA, huh?
J.B. - You’re awfully…calm about this.
Cage - Calm? The champ prefers to be cool!
Morgan - There’s not many big white boys in the NBA anymore, but I thought I could be one of them.
Tenay - BOY, THESE ROUGH CUT SEGMENTS REALLY GIVE US INSIGHT INTO MATT MORGAN’S LIFE!
(Lethal slaps Dutt)DW - DAYUM!
DW - HE JUST THREW A SET OF DRUMS AT HIM!
Tenay - THERE GOES THE DRUM KIT!
Lethal - I’M GONNA KILL YOU! (Lethal spears Dutt through a steel door)
Tenay - WE’LL UPDATE YOU ON THIS OUT OF CONTROL SITUATION WHEN WE RETURN TO IMPACT!
Ray - Christian, you skinny, little waste of oxygen! PUNY man! Do you think that we’re stupid? You don’t become 20 TIME WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS BY BEING STUPID! You come out here and say “phenomenal opportunity” THOSE ARE BIG WORDS FOR YA - I WONDER WHO YOUR PARTNER’S GONNA BE!? Could it be… KING KONG BUNDY? Nah, it’s gonna be AJ Styles. You been beating up people all over the place tonight - dunno where you’re finding the time to get out of Karen’s room. AJ, I smeared your blood and I LIKED IT! I’M A SICK BASTARD! AJ, we’re gonna break your neck JUST FOR KURT ANGLE because you’re a piece of crap. We hope to spin your blood and Christian’s blood all over the Impact Zone. For your listening enjoyment, my Brother Devon.
Devon - I could feel sorry for AJ, but I don’t. We’ve been warning you since day 1 to stay out of our business, but you just won’t listen. Is it a Southern thing? You want more blood coming out of your body? THERE’S GONNA BE A MASSACRE! AJ, YOU WILL KNOW WHY THOU SHALT NOT MESS WITH TEAM 3D! OH MY BROTHER, TESTIFY!
Tenay - She might’ve been away at a TNAWrestling.com photoshoot, but Salinas got in the mood tonight after the LAX beating!
Tenay - We have word from the Pink Taco that Sonjay Dutt escaped from the building!
DW - MIKE, IT IS AJ STYLES!! Part of me thinks that 3D knew this would happen - they knew Cage would play the AJ Styles card!
Tenay - I THINK I AGREE WITH YOU! THEY HAD A STRATEGY - TAKE RHINO OUT OF THE IMPACT MAIN EVENT!
DW - AJ’S THE EVERYMAN, AND YOU ALWAYS ROOT FOR AJ STYLES!
(as DW yells)DW - YOU CAN HEAR TRIGG AND AJ JAW JACKING!
(after he locks in the ankle lock)DW - DAMN YOU KURT ANGLE!
Kurt - YOU’RE LOOKING FOR ME YOU SON OF A BITCH!? YOU FOUND ME!!

TNA's presentation is still very bush-league. Part of it is due to their constant Mayhem endings. I attribute a bit of it to Don West's cheesy delivery. Most of it is because of their lack of direction.

The 'Kong beats up random fans' angle is still stale, though the premise was a good idea. It just lacks direction and is a reflection of one of TNA's biggest problems.

Most of the time I watch TNA and think, "Where is this going?"

I don't think they know either.

This said, I dig the X-Cup and, subsequently, their X-Division talent, and always felt it should have remained the focus of the promotion. The X-Cup matches have been the best parts of TNA over the last few weeks, and were just rock solid.

He's actually supposed to be out for a year, but either way, I'm not sure where they're going with this unless he decided to "Victoria" it and stay active. Maybe he did since he is part owner, and the promotion had just lost their previous champ to injury.
