The "Night of Champions" Wrestling Thread

WWE just released 3 developmental talents(including Vader's son who was in NXT). So it looks like they are cutting talent to save money.

Also, Mickie James contract with TNA expired and has turned down the resigning offers they've offered her. So it looks like she's done with the company.
Any chance she comes back to WWE or did she burn bridges? Or is she going full time on singing?

Perhaps she will open up a new Arby's franchise and the number 1 seller will be the Mickie James Roast Beef Sammich?

For real?
Yep. That was around the time Cena was sleeping with a couple of the Divas while on the road. That was one of the reason why they sent her to Smackdown while he stayed on Raw. The official reason was that they released her was tha they "wanted to go in another direction with the divas division", which I guess was code for "no crazy stalkers".

But I guess Cena was just hungry for some Arby's on the road. ;)

Who did Cena have relations with outside of Mickie & Nikki?

Sorry this was during the days I only watched TNA as they were on XBox & there was no way to watch WWE except on pay TV.

Seems those who have Cox Cable and ordered Night of Champions can get a refund for the PPV.  Nothing happened when it aired.  It's that the company feels that WWE dicked with the fans who ordered the PPV only to have the main event results reversed first thing the next night.

Wish cable companies would do this with every WWE PPV.  As there have been some really bad ones recently.

Impact thoughts -

Sabin as a jerk is hilarious, and I'm looking forward to seeing the Aces implode - even though it's only a few dudes now. Brooke as an assless-chaps wearing biker babe rules. SHOOT PROMOZ not so much. AJ and TNA used to be great, but now they aren't. And TNA is just a place for guys to go to get a paid vacation. Va-ca-tion!

Don't know what's worse.  That they're actually trying a shoot storyline or the fact that they're actually wasting airtime on turning a useless twit like Dixie Carter heel.

Then trying the implosion of Aces & Eights with only 3-4 guys left makes you realize how much TNA's roster has shrunk.   Also, makes me wonder if Ric Flair is right when he said that TNA won't last another year.

TNA, as it is now, won't last much longer. Fortunately, they're at least being somewhat responsible by trying to find another stable venue to shoot TV at and would likely be saved by Viacom buying them - the show does the network's best ratings, so they'll do whatever they can to keep Impact around.

I'll do a reminder at 5 days, and another the day before. Perhaps you're a WWE fanboy. Perhaps you don't like Japanese wrestling. Perhaps you're going to order and don't want to be reminded about it everyday.

But getting the word about shows is important if we want indie and foreign companies to keep expanding throughout U.S. markets. This isn't something like "Night of Champions" that we'll be reminded about every Raw, Superstars, Main Event, and Smackdown.

NJPW has absolutely zero presence in the States but they've got ten times the production values of TNA. If you haven't checked them out, give them a chance. You might enjoy them. Support the modern territory system. Support new companies trying to branch out. The below video gives you a showcase of all NJPW wrestlers, their styles, and their finishers.

New Japan's revival in popularity over the past two years has been so great to see. It's a shame that it hasn't yet trickled down to other companies, but that's simply something that isn't likely to occur until they get on better footing. All Japan, NOAH, and W1 aren't exactly in great shape. W1 is new, so it's at least unproven, but there's no reason to think it will do better than its debut show on a regular basis - especially with its IGF-style cards assembled via dart-throwing. At least the IGF resulted in things like the Necro Butcher being in the ring with RVD.

Should of posted this sooner but ROH has Death Before Dishonor on tonight for free at GFL.tv. Show is half way over with the ROH Title to be fought for between
Adam Cole vs Michael Elgin
in the main event. Tune in to catch the second half CAG it's going to be a great show.

Edit: Apologies to everyone trying to tune in due to once again ROH being incompetent on streaming.

Are you going to spam this every single day until its over? If so tell us now so we can just go ahead and put you on ignore for the duration.
Why don't you put him on ignore and move on with your life. No need to be a jerk about it. I mean he's posting wrestling related news in a wrestling thread. I don't got any problems with that. Besides it's good that we're getting non-WWE/TNA stuff posted in here. So thanks!

He doesn't need to post the same shit every day.

I don't mind him talking about non-WWE/TNA stuff, he's a decent conversationalist when it boils down to it. I understand he may be excited about it, but when he's spamming the thread with literally the exact same post (and nobody makes a comment about what he's talking about/wants to talk about) that's when it becomes pointless.

Either way, this thread feels like a shell of it's former self. It's either tons of video posts that nobody cares about, or one or two one-liner replies about Mickie James' roast beef curtains or whatever remotely boring news posting is currently happening.

I remember the days of the tinychat convos during PPVs and Raw. Do those still happen or did we all give up on both of the major companies and wanting to do livechats?

A lot of people just stopped posting in this thread altogether. myke, Scorch, etc. don't even bother since the CAG update.

Here's my perspective.

A majority of past threads delved into taking posters on a nostalgia trip, or by shitting all over the WWE. Once the nostalgia dried up, guys like Myke vanished, and everyone else has a difficult time believing in the WWE because of how hate the company got, resulting in posters like Muta.

With the rest of us left, like myself and Jay, who talk about wrestling with passion, we'll keep the thread going. For fans who are willing to move past some of the past drudgery of the WWE, there's really plenty to talk about. The territory system in the United States is alive and well ( though RIP Chikara) with PWG, ROH, DGUSA, and EVOLVE, and thanks to the advent of iPPV, we're getting easier access to foreign content than ever before like NJPW.

The reason I post so many videos is for people to discover something new or keep up with the industry in general. A lot of you may not be up for giving them a shot. But for those who are, there's always the chance they may discover something new and see professional wrestling in a new light.

I remember the days of the tinychat convos during PPVs and Raw. Do those still happen or did we all give up on both of the major companies and wanting to do livechats?
Made one for Night of Champions. A bunch of people came in but no one talked. Will make another one for RAW. I'd honest prefer a Google Hangout so that we can actually talk to one another as we watch the show but that's up to you guys.

WEEKEND WRAP-UP

WWE

Daniel Bryan defeated Randy Orton at Night of Champions for the WWE Championship. However the referee made a suspiciously fast count.

Fears were confirmed when Bryan was stripped of the belt the following night by HHH. Later in the evening, Dusty Rhodes was knocked out by Big Show by order of Stephanie McMahon. The locker room was upset over her actions and when the opportunity presented itself later in the evening, 11 superstars ran out to save Daniel Bryan from the Shield + Randy Orton as a form of protest.

Their actions however lead to a 11 on 3 gauntlet match on Smackdown where each wrestler would face the Shield one at a time...

ROH

After months of no champion, Adam Cole defeated "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin to become the new ROH World Champion after Jay Briscoe had to forfeit the title due to injury. Cole turned heel in the process of being awarded the title by Briscoe when he superkicked Briscoe in the back of the head. I imagine he wanted Jay to suck his dick with toothless gums and Jay turned him down.

PWG

With the Battle of Los Angeles over and Kyle O' Reily standing atop PWG the winner, out came the PWG World Champion Adam Cole to address his former Future Shock tag team partner. In the midst of insulting Kyle O' Reily, O' Reily struck first and brought the PWG champ to his knees. Out came The Young Bucks to prevent O' Reily's beatdown on Adam Cole, when Candice Larae, Joey Ryan, Drake Younger, and referee Rick Knox to joined the fray.

Out of nowhere, fan favorite Kevin Steen entered the ring attacked referee RIck Knox with his Package Piledriver to join forces with PWG Champ Adam Cole and PWG Tag Team Champs The Young Bucks, to create a faction now known as "The Mount Rushmore of Wrestling".

Yeah, for me it's just that this is basically a two person show now. That guy who always posts the long reviews and that other guy who relentlessly posts videos & HOT NEWS. I mean, look at the post above this one. What the fuck is that? That news would be easily attainable by anyone reading this thread who would care to find out about it, and is completely devoid of any actual discussion. This isn't a copy and paste newz site. This guy seems to think it's 1999 and he's writing for an AOL email newsletter.

Shrug. It's unfortunate, but hardly the first time a long running thread ends up crapping the bed. There are plenty of other wrestling message boards, odds are one or two of them can house some funny and interesting discussion, rather than link dumps and long reviews of shows barely worth watching.

I think he is just saying that overall just copying and pasting show results doesnt promote any discussion. Instead of just pasting the results maybe you could pick something about that show that interested you that you could discuss, possibly getting other people to post something that your post made them think of.

I'm totally down with that. And whenever I finish a show I'll post more specific thoughts.

But when someone like KaneRobot says that shows are barely worth watching, there's a logic gap there that I have trouble grasping.

Again, if the shows aren't worth watching, what's there left to discuss? That's a legitimate question.

Any of you guys listening to wrestling podcast?  As WWE and TNA seem to get worse or at least not better I try to fill more of my wrestling time for podcasts, indy shows, and other discussion like that.  As far as podcasts go, I like listening to the Old School Wrestling podcast and Colt Cabana's.  I like listening to the Steve Austin Show too.

I listen to Cabana's as well.

I have to ask:  What is it about TNA that some of you think has gotten so bad?  (This is directed at those who actually watch it, not those who just trash it out of spite and ignorance.)  I'm talking about the actual product we see on TV.  I just don't see a major drop in quality within the last 2 years.  I can agree that there have been some problems here and there (A's/8's shrinking roster) but overall I don't think there has been a major dip in quality.  Speaking of quality, as far as actual matches go, IMO TNA has been absolutely stellar for well over a year now.  With guys like Aries, Styles, Daniels, Kaz, Joe, a much improved Magnus, Manik (TJ Perkins), Roode as well others they have maintained a high standard for a long time now.  Anyway, chime in if you've actually been watching.

I enjoy what I hear from the Steve Austin Show, but I don't have the time to devote to listening to every episode. I have to pick and choose what I hear, and even then it's a chore to find time to listen to it with a 3 year old constantly around.

I don't think the actual wrestling has ever been the problem really. There's plenty of talent there and they are having good matches.

It's how they run the place that's the problem.

- Not giving a shit about talent until their contract is about to run out and then giving them a push until they re-sign so they can go back to not giving a shit about them.

-Directionless tag team division - they seem to have given James Storm a tag belt because they have no idea what to do with him after messing up the Storm/Roode buildup. Hell it seems like AJ's heel music/gimmick was intended for Storm. I feel like they've done irreparable damage to his career without repackaging him at this point.

Bad Influence, BroMans, EY/Park all at least have the capacity to be entertaining instead of yet another Chavo/Hernandez feud.

- Aces & Eights - Between not giving Doc a new contract and having to book around Kurt's rehab they lost all momentum. I think Mike Knox has had one singles match in his entire TNA tenure. There's also no reason why Brisco and Bischoff aren't going for the tag belts. I'm not a fan of either guy but at least it would be a way to get the group besides Bully Ray a reason to exist.

- Continued disrespect for their pretty popular women's division (completely failing to capitalize after the Gail/Taryn match and not paying Mickie James after having probably the 2nd best run of her career, cutting female wrestlers while still paying Christy fucking Hemme.)

- Whatever the hell Chris Sabin's title run was supposed to be. They should have just stuck with Aries after doing that fun Suicide costume/belt stealing bit.

I can't really argue against any of those points.  Well made and they certainly have merit.  I guess, when it comes to TNA, that I'm very much an optimist.  I gave WWE years before I gave up on them so I guess I'm extending the same courtesy to TNA.  For me, what I see on the show week to week is enjoyable enough that I don't really dwell on the problems that are certainly there.  Nice reply, diddy, much appreciated.

I'm not entirely convinced that Dixie can tell the difference between Chavo and Eddie Guerrero.  It's right up there with WWE's "See, Christian is totally the same thing as Edge - he does a spear and everything!"

Yeah, Chavo is one of those guys who is solid in the ring but can't work a mic to save his life.  Every time he stars talking I just cringe waiting for him to misspeak or make an awkward pause.

Random observation - but they are great at making some guys seem super important for exactly 2 hours of programming.

Magnus - BFG finals night

Aries - X Division title theft

Sabin - title cash-in/victory

...and then promptly jumping off a cliff.

I'm not sure where they go towards the end of the year - Hogan and Sting's contracts are up in the air.  Somebody has to side with Dixie in her feud with AJ.  The obvious choices would be Angle or Bully Ray to fit the "band of brothers" narrative.

Samoa Joe and/or Magnus could be interesting.  Plus it's just like TNA to do a "New Face of TNA" angle to ape what WWE is doing.

Sabin and Aries both lost their belts in quick fashion. Option C is inherently like cashing in MITB. You'll hold gold and you'll be legitimatized for a bit. But both are used more to build up the mid-card than to create main eventers.

Tonight's RAW shows how thin the roster really is.  Not only are all 10 men who saved Daniel Bryan going to be in an elimination match against the shield, but the WWE has no other superstars to do other matches tonight so they will be pulling double duty.

For what it's worth, I stopped posting primarily because I'm nearly exclusively posting from my phone and the new mobile interface is unbearable.

Even I can tell that Strong Style Zen Davis is annoying though.
