They could have him feud with Foley over who's a bigger Hardcore Legend. That just screams ratings.
With Al Snow as the special referee.

Besides, even if TNA hired Holly, nothing would change. We'd just go from not watching ECW to not watching TNA.

Or just skip both ;)

Thinking I'll just stick with SD! till Edge / Hardy is no longer WWE champ and then just play catch up on my ROH DVDs I bought a year ago.

I just read on Rajah about Bob Holly's departure from WWE, and, of course, came here to rejoice.

*sings, dances, and praises the lord*

Well the cut Victoria's retirement speech out of Smackdown, instead opting for JR to announce it mid-match. However she did have a good match with Michelle to go out. Probably McCool's best match thus far actually, she works well as a heel.

Eh, Victoria was never an 'it' Diva for them, so I never imagined she'd get any consideration upon leaving. Shame, really.

Anyway, it's nice finally hearing about the Holly thing, since we all knew it was coming. It seems that it really *doesn't* pay to be a long-tenured WWE employee right now. Then, in the case of Holly, you really stop and wonder just how he managed to stay employed for that long in the first place. This does, however, remind me that I need to amend his Smackdown 09 entrance so that I get to hear 'How d'ya like me now?' everytime he comes out. Really, he's worthless without it.

How d'ya like me now?!
How d'ya like me now?!
How d'ya like me now?!

He's in Smackdown 09? *rushes out to buy a copy*

EDIT - I had Smackdown on in the background while I was playing Lego Batman. Did Jeff Hardy job to his fireworks?

So, I'm home and I'm stinkin' drunk...but that aside, I'll still feel this way in the morning.

Watching WM5. Strike Force vs. Brain Busters was a match that doesn't pull that much high-flyin' bullshit, but was a *wrestling* match that was exciting to watch, *is* exciting to watch, and really exposes how the formulaic "WWE style" has harmed the very enjoyment of wrestling. I was never a fan of Strike Force at all, but these two teams could shit out a match that would be light years better than any fucking tag match I've seen in a decade.

Ha.

Thanks to PS3's new youtube feature, I discovered that something I thought I merely had a dream about two decades ago was, in fact, true - Demolition wore masks in the WWF in 1990 for a minute, instead of face paint. Just prior to the Survivor Series 1990. Maybe at the PPV, in fact.

I love that match. It's always on my 'favorite WrestleMania matches' list. I was, am, and will always be a big fan of Arn. He and Muta are my top two favorite wrestlers. And Monsoon and Ventura were such great storytellers.

Why did they do that to Hernandez? What the fuck was the purpose in having Feast or Fired when you have everybody end up losing or transitioned the title they won.
Why did they do that? What the fuck was the purpose?
If you can EVER answer either of those questions, you aren't watching TNA.

What is more crazy is the fact that they are letting Team 3D wrestle individually which is stupid on the part of Bubba Ray because he sucks as a single competitor.

Bubba's somewhat capable - it's miles better than Deacon Devon or whatever the fuck they tried doing with him. Remember kids, Dave Batista was Devon Dudley's lackey at first.

The goofy "this is ur partner -- hez got ur back" theme to the Smackdown 2009 ads show how dead the concept of a tag team is. I can't remember a tag match in the past decade that wasn't two singles tagged for storyline purposes or the archaeological ruins of the 90s pulling a paycheck in TNA. Maybe the TLC matches of the early 00's, when "Edge and Christian" meant the team and it alone, but they're only in decade range for a couple more years.

Fire Pro's AI puts on a better match against itself than the WWE delivers with any reliability, Jericho notwithstanding. Fuki Nakajawaka and Euji Kamatama vs. Luju Mikatawa and Orami Patabana-san FTW.

Show-MVP and Victoria-McCool were very good, the rest of SD was just kinda there. R-Truth and Kendrick had zero chemistry together, and I can't wait until the Rumble just because it'll mean the end of their endless opening segments.

Quotes -
HHH - Apparently, Joey Styles bought them from the Great Khali, and if you don’t know who Joey is, he runs dotcom. It cost me A LOT to get them from him, and after a lot of bargaining and a lot of money, here they are. I hope this makes it up to you. You don’t accept my apology? Well, maybe this’ll help you forgive me… (nude pics go up on tron)
J.R. - That young lady Victoria is competing in her last match in the WWE. She’s had an amazing career in the WWE and we wish her well. She wanted to dedicate this match to the troops.
(after the booty shaking moonsault)Tazz - This is VINTAGE Victoria!
I thought Bob Holly was released after he lost the tag team championship against Dibiasie and Rhodes.
Nope, he took time off to heal and also WWE had nothing for him after that.
Starrcade set was $20 at WM. Had to buy it.
I laugh when I saw the cover and when I realized they have the TNA Champion on it.

The Bob Holly thing sparked an interest in playing Smackdown 09 again. I just checked and Xylot is down again, so does anyone know where I can get a good version of Regal's 'dark' theme? I don't know if he's currently using it or not, but I'm hoping someone knows what I'm talking about.

Thanks.

Is it the one he had in SvR '08? If so, then yeah, he's still using it.

As for the Starrcade DVD, does anyone have a list of the actual matches included on the discs?

There was also the story about him stealing painkillers out of another wrestler's bag, which, if true, is definitely grounds for termination. If anything, I'm surprised he wasn't canned earlier - he's had a job there for a decade and a half despite rarely being over.

HOW DO YA LIKE ME NOW?

The Big Shot thing was ok. It's about as interesting as he got. The thing with Big Show pushing a car on top of him or whatever was wonderful in its absurdness.

Dunno. It's super good, and Rourke is amazing. But I don't think it's as awe-inspiring as the reviewers seemed to think.

If you can't see it in theaters, rent it before buying. I *think* I'll buy a copy of the film, but I'm not 100% convinced yet.

While we're on the subject, I saw The Wrestler the other day. Excellent flick. Rourke put on an outstanding performance (as usual). The plot was well-paced and made a lot of sense. It was also pretty depressing at points because we know this sort of thing happens all the time in the business.

I'll gladly pick this up when it's out on DVD.

Yea dude.. the one scene where he was checking out all the other washed up wrestlers was just depressing.

The autograph session was indeed powerful, though I've never been to one outside of a Pillman show nearly a decade ago. So I don't know if that's an accurate portrayal or merely hyperbole.

Hopefully they get The Wrestler out in a wider release. I'm looking forward to seeing it and thought I got screwed somehow with no showings nearby, but looks like it hasn't hit a lot of screens yet.
Should get a nationwide release this coming weekend, IIRC.
Okay. As long as it comes out. I remember seeing commercials for it last weekend, but nothing since then. It was weird. And I wasn't paying attention to what date the commercials said the movie was coming out on, so that's why I have no clue.

At this point I've about given up on seeing The Wrestler in a theater. My fiancee simply cannot be persuaded to care about this movie. Girls are stupid.

Anyhow, I tried to find the funniest Bob Holly moment of all time. I failed. I think it happened after Angle and Holly teamed together for a little while. Kurt suggest that Holly, who was calling himself the 'Big Shot', "replace the 'O' with one of his three I's. I remember laughing my ass off at that when it happened but other than a random tag team loss in 2000, I wasn't able to find much from Angle and Holly on Youtube.
