Sidenote: no more 'surprise matches' against already down opponents. Give it a rest for a few years.

Might just be me.
atleast RVD used it well.. I thought it worked out nicely to use it ONS. I wish they had given him a clean win though ( none of that heyman having to count the three bs)
Agreed on the "surprise match" thing. The did it to perfection this year, so it's time for a different approach. I mean the success of the resulting title reign is surely debatable, but the actual "cashing in" moment with Punk was one of the more beautifully executed angles in recent memory. It really had that old-timey, exciting, "watch the internet implode" vibe to it.

I do think it's silly to have the MitB match OPEN the show though. I know they did that at WM24... possibly others too.
yeah, it seems more of a mid card match, at 24 it was the second match, it was 23 when it was the first match on the card, which i thought was just stupid. i think it wouldve gone well for hardy last year but he fucked that up. this year i'd like to see morrison or benjamin win, one of them has a shot... the other has been in 3 and lost all of them
atleast RVD used it well.. I thought it worked out nicely to use it ONS. I wish they had given him a clean win though ( none of that heyman having to count the three bs)
Time-Traveling Edge was cool though!

I wouldn't put Miz and Morrison in the MITB match. Ideally, I'd like to see some sort of big tag-team match featuring the major teams wrestling to unify the tag belts. There simply aren't enough teams to justify having two separate divisions - makes more sense to spread the tag belts across the two flagship shows and open it up instead of having the same two or three combinations of tag team matches.

Miz/Morrison, the Colons, Cryme Tyme, maybe DiBiase/Rhodes. I honestly can't name any other tag teams other than Jesse/Festus and Ryder/Hawkins.
I see your point, and I certainly don't consider it a WM "tradition," per se. As a matter of fact, the Wrestlemanias I least recall consist of WM21, 22, and 23. Hardly remember a fuckin' thing about 'em. I recall Triple H dressed up like Conan The Barbarian and John Cena dressed like...um, well, he was dressed up.
Don't you dare pretend you don't remember the gangster entrance with C.M. Punk as an unnamed underling. He-Man vs. Dick Tracy was clearly the ultimate Wrestlemania main event.

And what is it with DarknessBear and bears?
Wtf is with CAG and wrestling?
and WTF is it with those TV dinners, you don't get leftovers you get.......

Kingston and Punk. They were tag champs, you know. ;)

ahh the saving grace of the rumble for me after rey had won..

I really see Morrison in the MITB this year although it will be cool to have a tag team turmoil or something to care about the tag team division.

Trying to think reasonably for a moment about Cena. It's easy to hate him, and it's easy to write him off. I certainly do.

That said, I'm trying to think of high-caliber main event wrestlers I've watched over the years, and one thing I think Cena lacks is that, if I ask myself "what matches has ____ had that are absolutely, positively fucking *classics* that I could watch again and again?" With most main eventers, even those regarded as not-very-good-ring-technicians, I can think of a solid handful of matches I'd watch time and time again.

Even Hogan; WMIII, WMV and WMVI main events were fucking magical, even if not "mat classics."

But, with Cena, I come up 100% empty. I can not think of a single fucking match of Cenas that I could watch with the same amazement that I could a classic HBK match. Even Triple H, who we all mostly tend to loathe as a power whore, has had tons of matches worth watching (I'd like to go back and watch the growth of his 1998 (?) feud over the IC title with The Rock).

But with Cena? There's nothing in his past that I would feel compelled to watch if given the opportunity.

BUT, is that simply my anti-Cena bias talking? Do I dislike him so much that I'm overlooking great, must-see matches he had? Or is he really that milquetoast in the ring?

The only match that I can remember clearly involving Cena was his first one with Angle, back when he debuted on TV. And even THEN, I remember more of the Undertaker's promo with Angle right after that more than I remember the actual match itself.

That match he had with HBK right after Wrestlemania over in England was pretty good.

Edit: Let's not forget that MitB last year was 8 guys, either. I'm hoping MVP can come out on top and expect to see both him and Kennedy in the mix again.

7 guys, Jeff was out due to his drug abuse.....

as for Cena/Hbk in England, I just found that match to be insanely boring and took up way to freaking long and stale cause it was like the 50th time I'd seen them wrestle.

Cena/HBK was a good match - but was it something you'd salivate at the prospect of watching again?

I'm not saying he is unable to have a good, enjoyable wrestling match.

But I can't think of anything that I'd jump at the prospect of watching.

Offer me up the best of HBK - HBK/Razor Ramon ladder match (even the SSlam rematch with that football player!), HBK/Y2J from WMXIX, HBK/Hart Iron Man.

What I'm getting at is the difference between "oh, that was a good match, yeah" and "HOLYfuckINGSHITTHATMATCHWASACLASSICWENEEDTOWATCHTHATRIGHTNOWBECAUSEITWASSOAWESOME!"

If you appreciate the distinction as fans.

Best Cena match I can think of off the top of my head is last man standing vs Umaga at Royal Rumble '07. But, you're right - I'd still rather break out my HBK dvd.

Smackdown spoiler(?) regarding Victoria from pulsewrestling.com
Victoria announced to the crowd that she had wrestled her last match. In an emotional speech she thanked the crowd and hugged JR and Tazz. It was likely a “dark” segment, but if it were to air it’d be on this Friday’s episode.

I can't stand watching Cena, everytime he's in the ring I expect him to always come out on top so I don't even care anymore. He could be facing the whole the entire roster and I feel like he would win every match. I don't hate him, I just hate the watch the WWE has built him up to be Superman.

He's not the best wrestler ever, and certainly not the worse too, but really is all in WWE's fault, many ppl complain about Cena, being the reason that they don't like the WWE anymore just because of him, but It's all on the Creative team's fault, and I know I'd shit way too much about Triple H (Don't get me wrong he's a great in-ring performer and I respect what he has done for this business) but he's one of the main reasons that Cena has been Superman and been way on top for all this whole fucking time.

On the other side people think that the real solution for all this Cena hate is to actually turn him heel. IMO I don't see that happening anytime soon, he's WWE's top merch. seller and has this huge kids/women fanbase so it wouldn't make much sense.

Back to my point with being WWE's fault, during the WrestleMania 23 build up against Shawn Michaels, he actually went up to the creative team and told them he wanted to play as the heel during their feud but the creative team denied Cena so What the fuck is wrong with them?

I really don't hate the guy that much but It really gets so fucking annoying.

That would be sick if Hernandez won.

Even sicker if the announcers stopped calling him "Super Mex".

Hrm, what, 2 months of Palin garbage for that payoff? Anyone else feel like they were putting Angelina/Velvet in segments that would get low ratings just so they have nothing to bargain with when it came to new contracts?

I'm guesing MitB this year will consist of Punk, Benjamin, Kennedy, Kane, Chavo, Miz, Morison & MVP with MVP getting his first win in nearly a year. Also gotta wonder if they'll go back to 6 ppl this year because of the smaller roster, or TEN men this year just so they can cut the number of matches so that Triple HHH Vs Taker / Edge gets another 10-15 minutes?

But I thought that was last year? I'm so confused!

Why does Kurt Angle always sound like he's congested when he talks?

Because he's a wreck.

The best Cena match that I can recall was his 2005 "I Quit" match against JBL. Not a mat classic but it had some impressive brawling. Or his TLC match in Toronto against Edge from... what, 2006?

That aside, Cena hasn't been in the same calibur of matches of guys like Angle, Undertaker, HBK, Bret Hart, Foley, etc. Hopefully he will be eventually because I don't think he's going away.

I was there at that match (Judgment Day 2005). The match was okay in person. The undercard was far better tho with Eddie vs Rey that was the start of that awful fight over Dominick (spelling?) and Angle vs Booker T in that infamous fued over Sharmel that featured Angle's infamous wanting to have "perverted sex" with Sharmel.

*skips stuff since I haven't watched Impact yet*

Book Marks Update:

I received way more book responses than I anticipated for "The Spy Who Came For Christmas", which is fantastic, but it does have me way behind schedule. With nearly 4 times the responses of our previous book it may take me a week or two to get everything edited and posted.

January is going to have to be a down month for Book Marks so I can get caught up. Please bare with me while I edit and post all of this. As for the give aways, with so many entries not everyone will be receiving a back stage pass. In addition to the back stage passes however I do have 3 signed copies of "Scavengers" by David Morrell to give away as well. David gave me these a while ago I just never got the site updated to add them.

I will get all the winners posted and stuff sent out sometime over the next couple weeks as well. I appreciate your understanding while I cope with the extra work load.

Lance

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Oh well... At least it was a good book. Who else participated?

File this under huh?

Apparently Low Ki had his first match in WWE developmental FCW under the name "Kawal". Hopefully this will be changed before he gets called up.

On an unrelated note, someone on another forum posted this amazing Wrestlemania X promo. It's hard to beat a goofy-ass Johnny Polo, NBA Jam commercials, and Men On A Mission rapping about Sy Sperling: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4l86u_men-on-a-mission-wrestlemania-x-rap_sport

Nash's blog was a million times more entertaining than Impact, which peaked with Kurt Angle bragging about the MEM ending needless careers in the opening segment. The main event of Styles vs. Steiner was easily Scott's best match since returning, but a far cry from the promised AJ-Angle match. Ray's comeback worked for me - I enjoy seeing him get one-off title matches for some reason. I dug it in ECW on PPV, liked it during his Raw push, and it's working for me now. It's certainly a more interesting match than Rhino vs. Sting, and fresher too.

I wasn't fond of having Hernandez's title shot being rendered worthless - it wasn't brought up as a major point in the show, and if Ray can just name himself the top contender, why shouldn't Hernandez do the same and have a three-way at the PPV? Hopefully they do a better job having Homicide cash in his case. The knockouts match also seemed to drag on, and the drop-off in quality for the division just becomes more mind-boggling with each passing week.

Has the wide release of The Wrestler been canceled? It was supposed to come out today, right? No theater around here is showing it.

CAKE AND PUNCH FOR EVERYBODY, WE'LL NEVER SEE BOB HOLLY ON OUR TV AGAIN!!! (unless TNA is desperate enough to pick his useless ass up)
I'd commit suicide if TNA signed Bob Holly.
6-time Hardcore Champion, 3-time WWE Tag Team Champion, and 1-time NWA Tag Team Champion (managed by Cornette in Jarrett's federation). If that doesn't scream Main Event Mafia, well then, I don't know what does.
