The Official 2007/2008 NBA thread

This is what infuriates me about the NBA... Hamilton grabs Garnett's arm and holds it for about 5 seconds, then he flops, foul on Garnett.

Detroit gets away with a lot of contact on the hands, but thats just playoff basketball. The C's should take note and do the same.

They're calling other ticky tack crap though.
 
I like this first half, hopefully they can keep things going for the 3rd and close out the 4th (when the basketball players get on the court).
 
Saw Stuckey play a bazillion times while he was at Eastern W, met him like in 05' at the Gonzaga Camp. The comparisons to D-Wade are spot on, difference between the two is D-Wade aka Flash is faster, but Stuckey is way more durable.

The Pistons are ridgodamndiculous, while IMO their the better team than the Celtics, the Pistons really don't give 100%. Unlike the Spurs, Lakers, Celtics who give it 100% everytime, it infuriates me to see the Pistons not give a flying fuck when a team like Cleveland/Atlanta did all they could, and if they had 1/2 the talent of this team they would've beaten the Celtics.
 
They should give Dick Bavetta's eyes to that soldier, its not like he uses them.


Pierce just got taken the fuck out on that play, no call. Unbelievable.
 
So, of the Swingman jerseys, who made them better, Nike (old) or Adidas (new)? I'm about to pick up another jersey and I have a choice.
 
I don't watch much NBA, usually just the playoffs, but I agree, the refereeing is horrible.

Especially for guys on defense, they get plowed into and then the calls are on them when it's clearly offensive charging (never mind a lot of traveling).

I can understand the NBA wants an offensive focused game, but it's pretty bad when even the commentators are going "are you kidding me?"

Had a Nike one that didn't hold up to washing very well. Never had such problems with Adidas jersies

I had an old Nike one, and I preferred that one to my Lakers Adidas.

Mostly because they've won the championship, once you've done that, for some athletes it's hard to push yourself to go through all that strain again when they've already won it.

That's why you see guys like Stuckey, Maxiell busting their ass.

Or like in the movie Speed, "You thought you needed another challenge?"

If the Pistons pick up their game, then Boston is in for another long series. I mean, 30% shooting in the 1st half? C'mon....and half of those misses were wide open jumpers too...

The Pistons are the cockiest team in the league, not by trash talking off the court, but on. Just watch them play, it seems they find joy out of trying to get out of a deficit. Take yesterday's game for example, they were down by what 20? And cut it to 9? That was the hardest they played the whole night.

I wouldn't say they get the EC Finals and "half-ass it" and i'm not questioning their passion for winning, all NBA players want to win (excluding Larry Hughes apparently) it's just how much their willing to put in. That's what seperates the Johnson's, Jordan's, Bryant's, Shaq's, their determination to get back to where they were the top dogs.

I said it once and I will say it again. Coming from a Detoiter....Pistons are the most over rated team in the NBA.

They think just because they got 1...thats right 1 fucking championship they are some type of dynasty. So do their fans. So they beat the Laker Dynasty. So what? Great job then. But stop riding it like you have won it 4 times in a row.It doesnt help that they are in the East which again is the worst division I think in most of sports.

Hey they can easily have their cocky swagger when they come back on the Hawks from 20 down. But guess what? Its the Hawks and the East is full of Hawks like teams. One superstar and a ton of sub par role players. And thats where they get it from.

Take away that one championship (and lets not forget Larry Brown was coaching then)run and what do you have? A team that stays atop of the weakest division and thats it. They are simply lucky that by the time they have to actually play a meaningful game 98% of all the good teams have knocked each other out.

I think the Pistons were lucky that they had Larry Brown that year. He made them look FAR better than what they actually are. And this is a knock on the players as well as Coach Flip Saunders. I think this speaks a ton about how badly he is as a coach.

Its obvious that the players dont respect him, its obvious that Flip doesnt have a proper game plan that allows the players to play better.

I am just so sick of the "we can flip it on at any time" excuse every single time they lose. And I am sick of D-Town fans eating that up like it prevent colon cancer. "When the Pistons are on they are the one of the best teams in the NBA" Well guess what? Your not on that fucking often.
 
I love how nobody wants to give the Celtics credit for anything, it was all Detroit not playing well. Its a two way street. The game the Celtics lost was probably their worst defensive effort of the playoffs. Detroit played tough, tenacious D, but they still put up 97 on them.

Detroit simply does not have an answer for KG, other than Rip Hamilton grabbing his arm and flopping. We'll see how long that lasts, ref's don't like being made to look like fools by that stuff. And Billups is still hurt, Stuckey is playing well but a healthy Billups would be better.

Exactly. Everyone in the media wants to make it like its the Pistons not flipping this magical switch and thats what is causing them to lose.

I think simply....the Pistons are not good enough to beat them. Flat out.

Yea the Lakers were playing awful tonight. Especially the 2nd unit when they went out on the floor. The lead went to almost double digits and the game was getting out of hand. I was a little disappointed and sad of the Lakers tonight and I hope they can shape it up on Tuesday's night game
 
Just scored 2 tickets to Game 5 in Boston Wednesday.

Jeff Van Gundy is a great analyst, by the way. He tells it like it is, and he's surprisingly competent.

This was a tough ticket, the Celtics have been a tough ticket to get all year. Last game I went to was game 5 against Atlanta, couldn't get seats against the Cavs at all.

I was offered seats to Jon Lester's no hitter for $20 a piece, couldn't go. After that, I couldn't pass this up, though I'm paying substantially more.

Farmar was doing alright tonight. I thought Turiaf was just throwing fouls left and right and just acting like a giant blob, instead of being his more athletic, hustling self. I just couldn't stand Odom. Odom was horrible. He was missing shot after shot, and worse to boot, I felt he took out all the rhythm from the Lakers' offense. He would bring up the ball, or get the ball passed to, and instead of complying to the triangle offense, would take it upon his shoulders to drive to the basket and then miss, and miss, and miss. Still yet, he couldn't even hit a short jumpshot. I've been a big fan of his, even when he was in a slump or when he's been mediocre, but his play was just abysmal. Gasol was decent, and Kobe tried to revive the team in the fourth, but they seemed to kind of give up (I think it has more to do with Odom sucking the life out of the team instead of keeping the ball fresh and doing some passing; he played as though he was the only Laker there). It doesn't help that Fisher wasn't playing well and that these are the Spurs who drop to the floor from a little tap, which gets them every call. Oh, and Bruce Bowen wasn't his usual dirty self tonight. He played some actual real defense :shock:
 
They're allowing the Pistons to swipe the hell out of guys hands and arms, but slight contact still gets Billups to the line.

The Celtics wouldn't get mugged this much out on the streets of Detroit.

I honestly don't see how this could NOT go all seven games. It took Boston 7 for the previous series' and now they're up against a much more solid team.
 
i dont know about you guys but I am really disappointed with this years officials.

More so than any other year it seems like the officials are taking over certain parts of the game. Its like they cant figure out what style of play they want this year.

A hard nose classic NBA play off with less fouls and more on the ball defense. Letting the players play so to speak.

Or this nit picky call everything super slow paced style.

It seems to change every other half. I just cant get into it this year.

That was a good game between the Pistons and Celtics. Both played good defense and in the end Rip Hamilton came through. The Celtics kept it closed but couldn't get over the hump.

Good game for both teams but I can see that series going to a game 7 in Boston.
