The Official 2007/2008 NBA thread

I dont think they gave them that foul because Brent Barry was maybe 6 miles away from the fucking basket. There was like a 2% chance that was going to go in.

Also there were a ton of contact through out the game.

I think that was a great non call. Because you shouldnt have the game end on free throws anyway.

Well I heard it put well on Mike and Mike, I believe. You say that the refs shouldn't decide the game, but does that mean you should let a player who is infringing the rules decide the game? It's definitely a really fine line and something that can only be applied on a case-to-case basis.

In actuality, Fisher prevented Barry from taking the shot, a shot that was makeable if not probable, that he wanted to take, by fouling him.

I'm not gonna sit here and complain about the call, in light of what happened earlier in the game, but that's something to think about.

Along with that, I really like what Barry had to say after the game about the situation.

Well another good point would be that Barry made the wrong choice to try to go around fisher.

If barry would have went into his shot motion and then got wopped by fisher they would have had to call the foul.

Barry on the other hand first tried to dodge fisher and when he couldnt he tried to shoot around him. Thus making it look like it was his fault for the most of the contact.

But what can you.....refs ar stupid.

Yeah, you're exactly right. Barry is definitely at fault for not going straight up. It's really hard for me to definitively say the refs are at fault for not blowing the whistle on this one-it's not a cut and dry case like some of them.

Barry is a good guy if he had flopped around like Manu he would have gotten the call. So hopefully Lakers in 5. Celts in 7 hopefully

No. I dont think he had to manu flop it. That guy is pure bitch with the way he flops all the time.

I just think if he would have just went up with the original shot he would have had it. He even said in a press conference that he thought he had enough time and room to move away and get a shot off. That dribble to get away from fish is what killed him.

Anyway. Boston with the hell turnovers and just given away points. I truly dont know why team in the NBA help side so fully. As in running from across the court to play help side and leaving their man with 5 ft of room. Sheed has knocked down 4 threes already because of that. Let the PF/C help side to block the shot. Dont come from the 3 point line done to the block for a help side.

Its the NBA most people can shoot threes on a semi regularly basis. Stop leaving them open.

Is the laker game tonight by the way? For some reason I feel that it is?

God.

Yet another just piss poor call. This year is the worst for officials I have ever seen. No way in hell that is a flagrant foul. Pj brown puts his hands up with barely any power and maxeil falls to the ground.

WHAT THE HELL. Has I am watching this yet another shitty call against Boston. Thats a clean block on max.

And wouldnt you know it yet another crappy call on the Pistons. Clean double team on Paul and they get called for a foul.

Again its like the NBA cant figure out what it wants to be. A ticky tack every little content is a foul or a let everything go short of taking a axe to someone.

Man the nba is becoming a huge joke.

Van gundy is quickly becoming the best announcer I have ever had the chance to listen to. Very clear and very objective. I love this guy.

I've always loved Van Gundy. I miss him as coach for the Knicks. I wonder what would happen if he and Charles Barkley collided, heh.

Yeah, I honestly never cared for any announcing crew. They were just people that talked over the NBA game.

But Van Gundy I actually listen to. He makes sense 98% of the time. He seems to like the same style of NBA that most people like where players are allowed to play defense without all these pitty fouls.

Such a great guy as an announcer.

Jon Barry is another guy who isnt that bad at his role now that he is retired.

Tbh, I'm probably the only person in the world, but I can't stand Marv Albert. I'd much prefer Van Gundy + Jackson any day of the week.

Also, thank god for Ray getting in some kind of rhythm. About time.

Yeah but whats up with your boys defense? He seems completely lost at how to guard Rip.

Also another bad call. That was a clean block on Paul. Hell he practically blocked it with his face with how high up he was.

As for Ray's guarding, I dunno...I guess it's just squeaky old wheels?

And yeah, that was a clean block, but I don't know the rules regarding landing on players

Ok. This is the TV guy in me coming out.

But did anyone watch the half time show about Rip's mask?

Did you notice that in that interview he had full braids down to his shoulders yet right now Rip has had a clean cut for the last 2 years.

Come on ESPN....stock footage much? Booooooooo!

Heh, come to think of it you're right. At least it's more fun than watching the Bill Russel / Garnett talk for the umpteenth time. At least it had Vader and chuckling stormtroopers, instead of depressing gravitas.

The perfect analysts during a game would be Barkeley, JVG, Collins, Breen.

I can't stand Tirico, Brown, Dorris Burke, Mark Jackson.

That' halftime thing about Rip's mask was pretty funny :D

Btw, I don't think that was a charge on Rip, it should've been a blocking foul on Pierce, but whatever....>.>

WAAAA?

Did you just hear that stat? Highest rebound total in a play off game is 41 by Wilt? How the hell do you get 41 rebounds in a single game? That crazy.

Well shoot, he also had that 100 point game, plus I don't think the NBA had as many players of his stature and talent as they do now (i.e. Less Competition ;)), still, that's some good stuff. Most I've ever seen is I think 22 by Tim Duncan in Game 3

Even though Wallace has a lot of points. He is such a lazy bitch. Your PF. Get your ass into the paint and get some rebounds and blocks.

You can shoot 3s. Great. But you look like an idiot at 6 feet 10 standing at the 3 point line like a guard.

He is being lazy on offense, lazy on defense, lazy about his hustle.

I thought i was the only person that felt that way about Wallace.

Ugh.

If Rajon could get a fucking jumpshot he would be mentioned in the same breath Chris Paul and D.Williams.

So quick its crazy.

Are you kidding me?

Honestly. Can the refs get any more involved at the end of a game? Refs should not decide games but these ones are doing one hell of a job to make sure the end of this game is close.

There has been some horrid calls both ways through out this second half.

On the other hand Boston should be ashamed in the way they let the Pistons come back. They have made some really stupid decisions all game.

And someone tell rondo to stop lobbing the god damn ball up like a 3rd grader at the play ground.

This whole game is driving me crazy.

EDIT: Thank god it's over. Oh man what a nerve-wracking game. I can't believe they dwindled away 17 point lead, but I'll take the win.

Just got back from the game.

Rip Hamilton's arm is in a sling. X-rays negative, but he couldn't untie his own shoes or put his own shirt on. He was the last player to leave the locker room, at about 12:55AM. Big trouble for Detroit. He injured it while trying to choke Ray Allen. Karma is a bitch, and so is Rip Hamilton, I can't see him effectively playing through anything remotely serious. Thats his shooting elbow he hurt.

Referees sucked, but thats life in the NBA. Intense atmosphere, crowd was really into it.

Rasheed Wallace is now 1 technical away from a 1 game suspension in the playoffs. He pulled a nutty in his postgame comments too, blaming the referees and calling the Celtics floppers. He should talk to Rip Hamilton about that, and probably look himself in the mirror for shying away from the paint. Sheed only took 3 shots that weren't 3's, and made none of them. He literally did nothing but shoot 3's.

Big part of this game was the Celtics dominance of the boards. Kendrick Perkins had more rebounds than the Pistons in the 1st half, by himself. Perkins was huge in the 1st half, and was the player of the game. Ray Allen played great. Garnett was great, especially in the 2nd half.

Bill Belichick and Tedy Bruschi were at the game, Belichick was featured on the scoreboard several times and got standing ovations each time. Bruschi got a standing O, but wasn't as loud as Bill's. He held the ball for the Celtics midget while he jumped off a trampoline and dunked it. I believe a number of other Patriots were there as well.

finally punishment for flopping!

I think it is good it played out thaT way. The Celts will be less inclined to feel satisfied with it and come out weak on Friday. I love the fact that Rip got hurt while pulling his usual nonsense.

Big win for the Celts. It was certainly a painful game to watch, as c0rnpwn alluded to, but at least they pulled it out.

Perkins was a fuckin' beast and it cracked me up whenever they showed his face, which was usually in its normal mean-muggin' position.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that didn't happen in just regulation.

I know some of you have noticed the white armband Ray Allen started wearing yesterday, but its not what you think it is. He started wearing it because "Rip" Hamilton has been scratching and cutting Ray Allen's arm with his fingernails.

It didn't completely stop it, as you'll note here in this picture:

Sucks for Spurs fans. NBA says there should've been a call on Derek Fisher and Brent Barry should have shot two free throws.

Also: What the hell are the sizes of jerseys again? 44 - medium, 48 - large and 52 - xl?

I'm trying to buy an old Nike Swingman Rasheed Wallace Blazer jersey and I can't remember what the sizes correspond to anymore. Also, are the Champion sizes, when they use to have the NBA license, the same?

Lakers should have had a fresh shot clock instead of inbounding the ball with 2 sec left. So I don't feel too bad about it.

How are those old Champion jerseys anyway? I think they're equivalent to new replica jerseys, the names and numbers are screened on, etc. I can get an old Champion jersey brand new, or a swingman.

exactly.

Ok, just switched the game on to see a 28-15 Spurs lead and watch Kirk Thomas flop to draw the foul from Gasol.

Announcers words - "He sold that foul VERY well"

Get a swingman. Those screened on letters will get owned after a couple years of routine wear and wash.

DAMMIT! Why am I missing the great part of the game?!?!?

Instead other people take over the TV and are watching some Dance crap on Bravo >.>

Yeah, thats what I thought. Right now I'm trying to decide between a Nike green or an Adidas white Paul Pierce swingman, I can get either one for under $50.
