When Swype came out, people were typing at 60 wpm off the bat. It's not as fast as I can type either, but it's more than adequate, even for posting on forums.
Fair enough. Though for me it's still a case of why bother when I always have my work-provided laptop on the coffee table and powered on anyway.
I mean even the onscreen non-swype keyboard on the iPad is good enough for forum posting and longer e-mails etc. in a pinch. I use it sometimes in coffee shops etc.
But I'm not going to bother with using something less efficient if the more efficient option is readily at hand.
And I'll always have a laptop that's work provided as I need a full laptop for business trips. So I use the tablet for things where I like its form factor more than the laptop (namely reading and playing some simple games) and use the laptop (or my desktop) for anything better done with a keyboard and mouse. I prefer the best tool for each job!
I will say, I probably wouldn't by my own laptop if I didn't have a work provided one. I could definitely get by with just the tablet around the house, with my desktop for my computing needs if I had to. But with a work laptop around, I'll make use of it rather than trying to type on the tablet.
